MATTHEW HALL FOUND
DEAD ALONGSIDE RAILROAD

The mangled remains of Matthew "Pat" Hall was found
early Wednesday morning along the Chicago & Alton
right-of-way by Mr. VanPelt as he was on his way to work.
It was about 5 o'clock when Mr. VanPelt, walking along the
C. & A. tracks found the body of a man who had been
killed by a train on the C. & A. He notified Coroner W. W.
Jacoby and the remains were taken to the Heinz
undertaking parlors and later were identified as "Pat" Hall.
It is not known how he met his death but he either had
fallen from a train and caught under the wheels or had been
walking on the tracks and struck by a passing train. The
body was found east of the residence of W. L. Mounts.
The body was badly mangled, indicating that he had been
rolled or carried along the track by the train for some
distance after being struck.
Hall had been employed for many years on the section of
the C. & A. and had also worked in the same position with
the Illinois Traction System at various times. He was about
38 years of age and unmarried.
The deceased is survived by four sisters-Mrs. C. O.
Taylor, Mrs. Sue Pierson and Mrs. J. A. Ryan of this city,
and Mrs. Theo Danz of Perryville, Mo.
