The largest class ever to be graduated from Miller high school will receive diplomas at the Commencement exercises at the City Auditorium on the evening of May 20, 1936.
In addition to being a record-breaking class in size, the group will be the second to have a formal commencement, wearing caps and gowns. Exercises will start at 8 o'clock sharp. Dr. Frank Eversull, president of Huron College, will deliver the address.

three juniors; five national athletic awards to outstanding athletes; scholarship pins to the highest ranking boy and girl and other scholarships seniors may have won. The names of the valedictorian and salutatorian will be announced. Mrs. Meda McCullen, president of the school board, will award the diplomas.
A musical number by the orchestra will be, "Light Cavalry." The boys' glee club will sing, "Drums," and "Song of the Volga Boatmen." The girls' glee clubs will sing, "Dark Eyes," and "Johnny Was a Shoemaker."

Update:

Received by email from Betty Gibbs: My mother is Bessie Johnson (Gibbs). She is seated 4th from the left on the second row. Her sister Mary Johnson (Christiansen) is on her left. Mary was not mentioned in the graduates list. They graduated together.  *I have added Mary to list, however, I'm not certain if she is on Bessie's left, or is "left" as photo is viewed. csr*

The only person I can positively identify is also seated in 2nd row, 2nd from the right side of photo - Echo Zimmerman (Bertsch).  She looks the same in 2003 as she did in 1936!!

How frustrating.  I "should" be able to pick out many more of these grads.
