In Memory of Bob Fischer (A part of Hand County, South Dakota site)
In Memory of
Robert G. 'Bob' Fischer
March 11, 1936 - July 28, 2002
Robert "Bob" Fischer, 66, Pierre, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at the Maryhouse Sub-Acute Care Center in Pierre, South Dakota.

Robert G.Fischer was born March 11, 1936, to Carl J. and Elizabeth Mae (Galligher) Fischer in Herreid. In 1944 the family moved to Orient where Bob was already singing for church events. The family moved to Miller in 1950 where Bob became the town singer for weddings, funerals and celebrations. He won many local and state contests. His high school science teacher, Don Hendrickson, taught him to play the guitar. Bob's life was singing, playing his guitar and making people happy. He traveled all over the United States and Canada, playing music with his band.

In 1978 Bob moved to Pierre to manage the Terrace Motel, and he later owned and operated the Chicken Shack.

During his retirement he enjoyed his horses, his dog Pal, fishing and traveling in his motor home to visit relatives and friends. His mother always said Bob sang before he talked, and when strokes took much of his speech, he could still sing lines from songs to fit every situation. He even sang to cheer his caregivers.

Bob is survived by his son, Robert John Fischer and wife Cindy of Seattle, Wash.; two grandsons, John and Matthew Fischer of Seattle; a brother, Carl Fischer of Pocatello, Idaho; three sisters, Peggy Wangsness and her husband Orley of Watertown, Judy Jenner and her husband Merle of Miller, and Mary Nedved and her husband Allen of Pierre; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mae.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at First United Methodist Church in Miller with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Others participating were Virginia Burgher, organist; Jean Jennings, soloist; Ron Jennings, usher. Pallbearers were Gus Rosemore, Roger Engelcke, Casey Schultz and Thomas Winsell.  Reck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller.

~ Sweet Dreams of You ~
The first song I ever heard Bob sing was Sweet Dreams of You. That was 40 years ago. I even recorded him with  Dad's reel-to-reel tape recorder. Since that day, I think of Bob whenever I hear that song, and will continue to do so. His good friend, Gus will miss him, and so will I. Thanks for the memories.

Sweet Dreams, Bob.
