Ankrom, George W. Ankrom

Ankrom, George W., of Quaker City, Route 1, farmer and stock dealer, died Monday evening, September 27, 1965, at seven o'clock in University Hospital, Columbus, following a lengthy illness. He was born November 7, 1889, in Noble County, the son of W.H. and Emeretta Wareheim Ankrom. Mr. Ankrom was a member of the Batesville Methodist Church.

He was married on November 23, 1909 to Pearl Lineweaver, who survives with one son, William G. Ankrom, of Louisville; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Della Danford, of Quaker City, Route 1, and Mrs. Cora Eagon, of Barnesville; two brothers Purley Ankrom, of Barnesville and Charles Ankrom of  Quaker City, Route 1.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, in the Eberle Funeral Home, at Quaker City, with Reverend and Mrs. Milford R. Carey officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.

 

Arman, Mrs. Mabel Scales Arman nee Unterzuber

Arman, Mrs. Mabel Scales, 73, of Jacobsburg, Route 2, died at her home on Thursday afternoon, August 12, 1965. She was born in Neffs, October 29, 1891, the daughter of the late Charles and Alice Long Unterzuber. Mrs. Arman was a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Everett Arman; three sons, Harold Scales, of Minnesota; Edwin Scales of Bellaire, and Stewart Scales of Bristol, Tennessee; one daughter, Mrs. Romaine Spansall, of Van Nuys, California; two step-sons, John Arman  of Powhatan Point, and Roy Arman of Pittsburgh; six step-daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Brooks, of Alledonia; Mrs. Mary Sandlin and Mrs. Ruth Hale, of Dayton; Mrs. Louis Loomis; of New Carlisle; Mrs. Margaret Brooks and Mrs. Jeane Galavich of Powhatan; one brother, Charles Unterzuber, of Bellaire; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Norris, of Warnock; and thirty-four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock in the Toothman Funeral Home at Jacobsburg, with Reverend Carl Williams officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery at Key.

       Earl T. Baker, 73, who made his home with his son, Leo E. Baker of 138 Woodlawn ave NW, died this morning in Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.  He was a retired employe [sic] of the ABC Window Cleaning Co.  Survivors include his widow, Alice Baker, and a daughter. Callers Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reed funeral home. Additional calling hours Thursday after 1 p.m. at the Campbell funeral home in Barnesville. Services Friday afternoon at 1:30 in the Campbell funeral home. Burial in Southern Cemetery in Barnesville.

BAKER

        EARL T., who made his home with his son Leo E. Baker of 138 Woodlawn NW and who celebrated his 73rd birthday on the 18th of May, died early Tuesday morning in Mercy Hospital. His death was due to complications following a brief illness. Born near Barnesville he has been a resident of Canton for the past 10 years. He was a retired employee of the ABC Window Cleaning Co. He held membership in the Quacker* City of Christ. Surviving besides his son is his wife Alice Baker of the home, a daughter Mrs. Delbert (Margaret) Whitsell of Fairview, Ohio, three sisters Mrs. Edna Fowler, Mrs. Bessie Johnson and Mrs. Bertha McElroy, two brothers, Herman and Ollie all of Barnesville. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9. Additional calling hours Thursday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Barnesville, Ohio where services are being planned for Friday afternoon. Burial will be in Southern Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio. Beeson, Maxine Beeson, nee Wilson

MRS.  DAVID  BEESON  DIES  AT  AGE  40

Geff  Woman  Had  Cancer;  Rites  Held  Wednesday  Afternoon.

        Mrs. David Beeson, 40, of near Geff, died Sunday night at Memorial Hospital from cancer.

        Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Pleasant Grove church south of Cisne, with Rev. Burrel Carren officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  The Crippin Funeral Home was in charge.

        Maxine, daughter of J. E. and Nettie States Wilson, was born in Wayne county January 10th, 1925.

        On September 15th, 1946, she was married to David Beeson, with two sons born to this union.  One son, Darrell, died in infancy.  She was also preceded in death by her mother and father and four sisters.

        Early in life she professed faith in Christ and joined the Pleasant Grove Christian church, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher.

        In her younger years, she was an active 4-H member and later served as a local 4-H club leader.

        At the time of her first illness she was employed at Fairfield Garment Company.

        Surviving are her husband; a son, Dale, at home; one brother, Perry Wilson, near Geff; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Leathers, of near Geff; and her step-mother, Mrs. J. E. Wilson, of Fairfield.

 

Biedenbach, Henry Rudolph Biedenbach

(Henry Rudolph Biedenbach was born on 17 Apr 1903 in Burkhart Station, Monroe Co., OH. He died on 19 Jun 1985 in Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH.)

Henry R. Biedenbach, 82, of 420 N. Seventh St. died 8:04 p.m. Wednesday (June 19, 1965) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital. He was born April 17, 1903, in Burkhart Station in Monroe County, son of the late Joseph and Barbara R. Muth Biedenbach.

Mr. Biedenbach, a retired farmer, was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church. He leaves his wife, Connie Hughes Biedenbach, whom he married Oct. 26, 1926, three sons, Robert Biedenbach of Morris Plains, NJ, Frank Biedenbach and John Biedenbach both of Canton; four daughters, Mrs. Russell (Ruth) Fox of Dillon Hills, Nashport, Sister Eloise Biedenbach of St. Benedict's Convent, Cambridge, Mrs. Edward (Eloise) Zayac of Senecaville, and Mrs. Donald (Regina) Whittingham of Dover; a brother, Clarence Biedenbach of Grant's Pass, Ore; three sisters, Mrs. Earl (Christine) Stiner of Glendale Calif., Mrs. George (Ann) Weisend of Canton and Mrs. T. M. (Helen) Ehlerman of Caldwell; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

One daughter, Rita Barbara Biedenbach, died June 10, 1939. Four brothers and sisters also preceded him in death. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Scott-Atkinson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Maher as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Rosary devotions will be 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Bigley, Earl Eugene Bigley

        Earl Eugene Bigley, 27, of Lower Salem Rt. 1 died at Marietta Memorial Hospital at 7:50 this morning.

        He was born near Sycamore Valley on March 14, 1938, a son of William and Hattie Johnson Bigley.  His parents survive with four brothers and one sister, Leonard W. and Larry Dean Bigley both of the home, Lester W. Bigley of Marietta, Kelsy Lorn Bigley of Whipple Rt. 1, and Mrs. Carolyn Baker of Elyria.

        One brother, Frederick M. Bigley, is deceased.  One nephew survives, Daniel Eric Bigley of Marietta.

        He attended public schools at Chatham.  His home had been in Salem Twp. for the last 14 years and had been employed at Uncle Bill's Discount Center.

        Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Doudna & McClure Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Marr.

 

Blythe, Oscar Blythe

        Oscar Blythe, 75, of Rt.1, Grover Hill, died at 9 p.m. Friday, March 12, in Van Wert County Hospital, where he was admitted Thursday following a stroke.

        Mr. Blythe, a well-known farmer and swine producer, was a schoolteacher for 22 years, teaching in the one room schools and Hoaglin-Jackson Schools when a young man.

        A son of the late Samuel and Rilla (Kincade)* Blythe, he was born Dec. 24, 1889, in Jackson Township, Van Wert County, however he resided most of his life in Paulding County.  He was a World War I veteran, having served in the Army in France and Germany.  He was a member of the World War I Barracks of Van Wert County.

        Surviving are his widow, the former Esther Yoh, whom he married in 1929; a son, Arden Blythe of Delphos; three grandchildren and a brother, Arona Blythe of Grover Hill.

        Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the Middle Church EUB Church, southeast of Grover Hill.  The Rev. Mark Burden, Rev. Leonard Smith, and Rev. Paul Miller officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

Brown, Mary Ann Brown, nee Cronin

        Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Ruttencutter Funeral Home for Mrs. Mary Ann Cronin Brown, 89, who died Friday at the home of a son, Archie Brown in St. Marys.

        She was born May 25, 1875, a daughter of Michael and Rebecca Pratt Cronin and wa the widow of the late William G. Brown.  She was a member of the St. Marys Baptist Church.

        Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jesse Radcliff of St. Marys; five sons, Alonzo Brown of Chester; Frank Brown of Parkersburg; Brady Brown and John Brown of Newell and Archie Brown of St. Marys.

Auto     Injuries     Claim     Life     Of     Local      Woman

Mrs.      Estella     Burns     Of     Mapletree     St.     Taken     At       Hospital

        An elderly city woman died at 7:15 a.m. today at City Hospital where she had been confined with injuries suffered in an auto accident June 30 in Jefferson County.

        Mrs. Estella May Burns, 78 of 1089 Mapletree St. was injured in an accident on Route 7 near the north corporation limits of Brilliant.  She was a passenger in a car driven by her son, Clifford Goodballet of East Liverpool, which crashed into a guard rail after hitting a concrete divider strip while leaving a four-lane section and going onto a two-lane road.

        Mrs. Burns suffered a possible fractured left leg, possible head injuries and abrasions.

        She was born in Washington County, Ohio, Oct. 17, 1886, a daughter of the late Andy Goodballet and Barbara Scott Goodballet.  She had resided in this area 60 years.  She was employed at Homer Laughlin China Co. Plant 8 as a finisher for 40 years, working last in 1954.  She was a member of the Pennsylvania Ave. Methodist Church and the IBOP.  Her husband, Lafe Burns, died in 1948.

        Survivors include her son, a daughter, Mrs. Sylvester (Ruth) Havens; a brother, Harold Goodballet; and a sister, Mrs. Walter (Sena) Schneider, all of East Liverpool; another sister, Ms. James (Lucinda) Rinard of Marietta, and one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

        Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Arthur Williams.  Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

        Friends may all at the funeral home Wednesday night.

        Bert A. Campbell, 81, died at 7 a.m. today at Bartholomew county hospital where he was admitted Thursday.  A resident of Hope, he had been in ill health two years.

        He was born Sept. 18, 1883, in Shelby county to Andrew J. and Minerva Hendricks Campbell.  He was a retired farmer and had lived most of his life in Bartholomew and Shelby counties.  Mr. Campbell had been living in Hope since 1938.

        Survivors are the following children, Mrs. Hazel Hendrickson and Mrs. Robert Gruhl of Hope, Paul Campbell of Tampa, Fla., Charles Campbell of Cincinnati, Mrs. Ora Hayes, Fred Campbell and Mrs. Dale Cathers of Columbus, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

        Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Norman funeral home at Hope by the Rev. Everett Hayes.  Burial will be at Lewis Creek Baptist cemetery in Shelby county.  Persons may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Saturday.

Carpenter, Raymond E. Carpenter

 Calais - Raymond E. Carpenter, 56, was found hanged in a machinery shed at the rear of his home about five miles west of here Sunday morning (Oct. 10) Sheriff Francis (Tinker) Sulsberger said a coroner's ruling is expected. Carpenter had been in ill health much of the time since he lost a leg in a logging accident five years ago, Sulsberger said.

        Salsberger said a son, Wallace Carpenter who lives on an adjoining farm found the body shortly before noon. He and other members of the family searched for Carpenter after they went to his home following church services.

         Sulsberger said Carpenter was hanging from a chain which was fastened to a rafter. He apparently stood on a gate at the entrance to the shed which is about 100 yards from his home.

         Carpenter, a farmer, was born in Monroe County, Oct. 18, 1908, son of Ross H. and Rachael Hayes Carpenter.

         Surviving are his widow, Martha; two sons, Byron of Mount Vernon and Wallace; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Earley of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Anna Lee Piatt of Whipple; six grandchildren; three brothers, Roger Carpenter of Caldwell, Maywood of Woodsfield and Burdette of Summerfield Route 2, four sisters, Mrs, Ildrith Coultas and Miss Eleanor Carpenter, both of Summerfield. Mrs. Margaret Delong of near Summerfield, and Miss Malissa Carpenter of Paris, Ky.

         Services will be held at 1 p.m. (EST) Tuesday in Lewisville Methodist church with Rev. Starling M. Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Calais Cemetery.

         Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today

 

Christen, Arch T. Christen

        IRONDALE--Services for Arch T. Christen, 89, of RD 1, Irondale, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., in the Robbins Funeral Home, Bergholz.  Mr. Christen died Sunday in East Liverpool City Hospital.

        Burial will be in United Presbyterian Cemetery, RD 1, Bergholz.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 - 9 tonight.

        Mr. Christen was a member of Church of Christ.  He was a retired farmer.

        He leaves his widow, Mrs. Winnie Christen; a daughter, Mrs. Geraldine Baker of Wellsville, two sons, Warren Christen of Willoughby, Ohio, and Homer Lewis Christen of RD 1, Irondale.

MRS.  LULU  CHRISTMAN,  57,  OF WOODSFIELD  RT.  3  DIES;  SERVICES   HELD  SUNDAY

        Mrs. Lulu Christman, 57, Woodsfield Route 3, wife of Walter F. Christman, died at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, at Guernsey Memorial Hospital in Cambridge after a long illness.

        She was born Dec. 13, 1907, at Calais, a daughter of Mrs. Agnes Carpenter Wehr of Batesville, and the late Ira Wehr.

        Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are six daughters: Mrs. Karl (Kathryn) Miller of Cuyahoga Falls, Mrs. Rollie (Florence) Wells, Mrs. Melvin (Eva Pearl) Kennon, and Mrs. Charles (Peggy Jo) McLaughlin, all of Barnesville, Mrs. Marion (Janice) Powell of Quaker City and Mrs. Edward (Doris) Green of Cambridge; three sons, Clyde Christman of near Quaker City; Ralph Christman, of Jerusalem and Don Christman of Cardington; four sisters, Mrs. Jerome Montgomery and Mrs. Marie Miller of Batesville, Mrs. Leo Hall of Quaker City and Mrs. Earl Bates of near Caldwell; two brothers, Richard and John Wehr, both of near Quaker City, and 14 grandchildren.  A daughter, Neva Marie, preceded her in death.

        Funeral services were held at the Calais Methodist Church on Sunday conducted by the Rev. Milford Carey, with the Brubach Funeral Home in charge.  Burial was in the Calais Cemetery.

 

Christman, Rachael Christman, nee Matz

MRS.  RACHAEL  CHRISTMAN  OF  LEWISVILLE  DIES;  SERVICES  HELD  YESTERDAY

        Mrs. Rachael Christman, 91, of near Lewisville, died at 10 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anita Ludwig in Woodsfield.

        A member of Trinity Church near Lewisville, Mrs. Christman was born on April 2, 1873, in Monroe County, daughter of Louis and Christina Meckling Matz, and spent most of her life on a farm near Lewisville.

        Surviving are five other daughters, Mrs. Ruby Mann of Jerusalem, Mrs. Bertha Newhart, Mrs. Edna Young, Mrs. Zelda Ruble and Mrs. Gladys Reich, all of near Lewisville; one son, Elmer Christman of Apple Creek; one brother, William Matz of Woodsfield; 30 grandchildren and 60 great grandchildren.

        Brubach Funeral Home of Summerfield was in charge of arrangements.  The body was then taken to Gardner Funeral Home here where friends called.

        Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Hall of Trinity Church.  Burial was in Middlechurch Cemetery.

 

Christman, William G. Christman

WILLIAM   G.   CHRISTMAN   DIES   TUESDAY;   FUNERAL   THIS   AFTERNOON.

        William G. Christman, 65, of Woodsfield, a retired carpenter, died Tuesday, May 11 at his home here.

        He was born at Woodsfield, May 5, 1900, a son of Samuel and Maud Montgomery Christman and was a member of the Church of Christ.

        He leaves his wife, Bernice Stevens Christman; one son, William, of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Paul, of Woodsfield; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

        Friends were received at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at 2 with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery.

 

Cramblett, John G. Cramblett

Monroe County Beacon, Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, 1965

       John Gilbert Cramblett, 53, of East Court St., died Sunday afternoon May 23, 1965, at 3:45 at his home after a several months’ illness.

       He was born September 2, 1911, at Flint Mills, Ohio, the son of John and Florence Dearth Cramblett.

       Mr. Cramblett was a building contractor, and a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.

       A veteran of World War II, he was a member of Monroe Post No. 87, American Legion, being a Past Comander[sic-Commander]; was Chief of the Woodsfield Volunteer Fire Department for several years, and a member of the Auxilliary Highway Patrol.

       Surviving are his wife, Ruth Gatten Cramblett; his mother, Mrs. John Cramblett, of Marshall Texas, and two brothers, Donald Cramblett, of Marshall, and Orville Cramblett, of Minden, Louisana.

       He was preceded in death by his father; one sister, Mrs. Rachel Loar, and one brother, Charles.

       Funeral services were held at the Gardner Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Minister John Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.

 

Cronin, Ben K. Cronin

        NEWELL -- Ben K. Cronin, 79, of 82 Grant street, Newell, died in the East Liverpool City Hospital at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

        He was born in St. Mary's, West Virginia, May 26, 1886, a son of the late David and Sarah A. Pratt Cronin.  A retired kiln placer of the Homer Laughlin China Company of Newell, he has been a Newell area resident for 50 years.

        He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Newell and was preceded in death by his wife Leota Seckman Cronin.

        Surviving are two sons, Woodrow Cronin, Newell, and Edward Cronin, Midland, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne  (Evelyn) Barnes, Rochester, Pa.; and Mrs. Carl (Lorrain) Staggers, East Liverpool; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

        Services will be held in Arner Home for Funerals, East Liverpool, at  2 p.m. Thursday with Evangelist John Cox of the Newell Church of Christ officiating.  Friends will be received Tuesday and Wednesday.  Burial will be at the Locust Hill Cemetery, Chester.

 

Davison, John B. Davison

       John B. Davison, 87, of Barnesville, a former resident of Zanesville, died Saturday morning, January 29, 1965, at 3:15 o’clock, in Barnesville General Hospital, following a brief illness.  Mr. Davison was a pottery worker by trade, and had spent most of his life in Zanesville.  He had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Parkinson, 124 Walnut Street, Barnesville.

       He was born July 7, 1878, near East Union, a son of the late Austin and Emily Rayner Davison, and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church.

       Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Parkinson, of Barnesville, and Mrs. Geraldine Baker, of Zanesville; two sons, Zon C. Davison, of Cuba, New York, and Loren G. Davison, of Akron; one sister, Mrs. Ollie Bates, of Orlando, Florida; one brother, Harley Davison, of Wingett Run; five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Charles Decker, 80, Of Rittman

RITTMAN--

     Charles C Decker, 80, Rittman RD 1, died Wednesday morning [January 27, 1965] at his home after a two year illness. He was born Nov. 14, 1884, in Monroe Co. to Robert and Sadie Scott Decker and has lived in the Rittman-Sterling area for the past 22 years.

     For many years he was engaged in farming in Monroe Co.

     He was a member of the Rittman First Church of God.  His wife, Elizabeth, died in 1957.

     Surviving are six sons, Emerson of Rittman, Cleveland of Wadsworth, Matthew of Seville, Thurman of Creston, Herman Jacob of Lubbock, Tex., and John of Rittman; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah (Harvey) Hartzler of Wadsworth and Mrs. Esther (Ronald) Williams of Clinton; and 18 grandchildren.

     Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Gillman Funeral Home with the Revs. Albert I. Henry and G. Franklin Ramey officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery, Seville.

     Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

        Mrs. Bessie May DeVault, wife of Albert Mason DeVault of RD Bridgeport, died Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Martins Ferry Hospital.  She was born May 2, 1912 at New Matamoras, a daughter of Jacob Henry and Hannah Nalley Morris.  She was a member of Lancaster Chapel and the WSCS of that church.

        Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Earl of RD 1, Bridgeport; three brothers, Albert Morris of Morristown, John of East Liverpool and Floyd of New Matamoras; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Hoffman* of Mozart, Wheeling, Mrs. Sarah Hutchinson of Newell, W. Va., Mrs. Anna DeVault of Dover and Mrs. Robert Reynolds of Martins Ferry.

        Friends will be received after 7 tonight at the Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, where services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. by Rev. Charles L. Yates.  Burial will be in the cemetery at Farmington.

     Cecil E. Gatten, 53, of 1530 Walnut Street, Zanesville, Ohio, died Sunday evening, December 27, 1964, at 9:45 o'clock, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, where he had been admitted on Friday.  He had been ill about six months.

     Mr. Gatten was born May 13, 1911, in Woodsfield, Ohio, a son of Oliver and Ethel Poulton Gatten, and had lived most of his life in Zanesville.

     He was employed as a car loader for the Dura Corporation.

     Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Ethel Jones, of the home, one sister, Mrs. Jennie Louise Hook, of Zanesville; two brothers, Joseph Gatten and George Gatten, of Zanesville, and several nieces and nephews.  His father and a brother, Harry, preceded him in death.

     Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:3p o'clock in the Putman Chapel of the Bolin Funeral Home, in Zanesville, with Rev. Curtis Arnold officiating.  Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.

John Gatten, retired farmer, son of Joseph and Hannah Jane Highman Gatten, was born near Woodsfield on January 21, 1880, and departed this life Monday evening, March 1, 1965, at 8:30 o'clock at the home of his son, Floyd Gatten, on Woodsfield, Route 2, where he made his home. At the time of his death he was 85 years, one month and seven days of age.  Mr. Gatten was a member of The Richfork Church of Christ.

Surviving are one son, Floyd D. Gatten, of Woodsfield, Route 2; four daughters, Mrs. Flavil L. Bates, of Woodsfield, Route 3;  Mrs. Evalee Harold and Mrs. Winona Abicht, both of Marietta, Ohio; and Mrs. Irene Stultz, of Ashland, Ohio. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

His wife, Martha Nalley Gatten, preceded him in death on March 30, 1960. Also, one son, John Jr;  two grandsons and one great granddaughter are deceased.

        Funeral services for Donald F. Goodballet, 59, of 1282 Jefferson St., Salem, a retired employe [sic] of the Eljer Co. in Salem, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home in Salem, with Rev. Joseph Roher officiating.

        Mr. Goodballet died at 5:30 a.m. today at Salem Central Clinic, after an illness of 10 years.  The son of the late Charles and Sarah Goodballet, he was born in Wellsville. Oct. 12, 1905.

        Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donna Baker, with whom he made his home, Mrs. Charlene Brown of Salem, two sons, Wayne of Salem and George, who is with the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Fla., two sisters, Mrs. Harold Manypenny of North Benton and Mrs. William Talbot of Whittier, Calif., two brothers, George of Sebring and Rev. James Goodballet of Forts Ville, Okla., and four grandchildren.  His wife, Gladys Pettit Goodballet died in 1958.

        Friends may call at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Damascus cemetery.

        GIRARD--Floyd Goodballet, 74, of 112 Smithsonian St., died of a heart ailment at 9:20 p.m. Monday in Youngstown North Side Hospital following an illness of eight months.

        Mr. Goodballet was born Jan.* 25, 1891, in East Liverpool, a son of Conrad and Nettie Cline Goodballet, and had resided in Girard since 1917.

        An electrician for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, he retired nine years ago.  He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Youngstown.

        Besides his wife, the former Margaret Reese, whom he married 42 years ago, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. George Bailey of Warren; a stepson, Henry Reese of Girard, and three sisters, Mrs. Olive Baxter of Salem, Mrs. Mary O'Donnell of Girard, and Mrs. Onah Hopkins of Warren.

        Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Rose Church here.  Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the McClurkin Funeral Home.

        Services for William O. (Bill) Goodwin, 71, Toulon, were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Kidd Funeral Home.  Mr. Goodwin, who had been in ill health for some time, died at 7:45 Sunday morning, June 20, t his home.

        Rev. David Stensvad, of the Elmira United Presbyterian church, officiated.  Mrs. Kenneth Blakey was organist and accompanied the soloist, Gary Clinebell, Wyoming.

        Pallbearers were James Williamson, Robert Claybaugh, Harold, McMillen, Lester Martin, Harold Settles and Dale Webster.

        Burial was in the Toulon cemetery.

        William Oliver, son of George and Mary Ogle Goodwin, was born May 19, 1894, at Bunker Hill, Md.

        He was married July 5, 1913, at Rock Island to Marie Clara Sorenson, Toulon, and they had resided the past 48 years in their home at 525 North Culbertson St., Toulon.

        Mr. Goodwin was a member of Toulon Baptist church.  He was a former member of the Toulon City Council and the Toulon High school board of education and prior to his illness was employed at Settles Motor Sales in this city.

        He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, George Goodwin, Mrs. Tom (Kathryn) Patterson and Mrs. Helen Montogomery, all of Toulon, and Robert Goodwin, Morton.  Also surviving are a sister and two brothers, Mrs. William Dickensheets and Harry Goodwin, Uniontown, Md., and Earl Goodwin, Muskegon, Mich., six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Quaker City - Mrs Estella Groves, 83, Salesville, R.D. 1, was found dead in bed about 6 p.m. Wednesday at her home.  She apparently died in her sleep Wednesday morning from natural causes.  She was born in Noble County, Aug 14, 1882, the daughter of Roland J and Nancy Wilson Danford, and was a member of the Bates Hill Church of Christ.  She married John Groves in June 1903 and he died Dec 25, 1953.

She leaves two sons, Donald Groves, Kansas City, Mo, and Walter of Portsmouth; five daughters, Mrs Beulah Smith, Mrs Louie Tidyman, Mrs Beatrice Klein, Mrs Annie Knight, all of Akron and Mrs Bernice Weaver, near Salesville; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Mary Britton near Senecaville and Mrs Dulcie Stallings, near Salesville.

Friends may call at the Eberle Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.  Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Evangelist McKinley Bates officiating.  Burial will be in Friends Cemetery.

Lafe Hanson , 90 , of Lewisville, a retired carpenter, died Wednesday night, May 26, 1965, at 11:15 o'clock, in Castle Nursing Home, at Millersburg after an extended illness.

He was born May 10, 1875, in Monroe County, son of Isaac and Susan Wilson Hanson, and was a member of Lewisville Methodist Church.     

Mr. Hanson lived in Akron twenty years, being a builder and contractor in the Kenmore District.

Surviving are three daughters; Mrs. Edith Boyer, of Erie, Pa.; Mrs. Icel Haws, of Bath and Mrs. Gladys Stewart of North Olmstead; two brothers, Thomas Hanson of Phoenix, Arizona, and M.I. Hanson of Lewisville; a sister, Mrs. Mary Lumbatis, of Lewisville;  nine grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o; clock in The Lewisville Methodist Church, with Rev. Ralph Yoss and Rev. Paul Neville officiating.  Burial was in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville, with The Gardner Funeral Home, of Woodsfield in charge.

        Sylvester Havens, 1089 Mapletree St.,an employe of the Midland Works of the Crucible Steel Co., died Sunday at 1:10 p.m. at City Hospital after an illness of four months.  He was 42.

        Mr. Havens was born in Hager, W. Va., Feb. 27, 1923, to the late Charles Havens and Annie Walls Havens.  He lived in the area for 20 years.  He was employed in the open hearth department at the Midland plant for 22 years and worked last in July.  He was a member of the Pennsylvania Ave. Methodist Church and Steelworkers Union 1212.

        He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Burns Havens, at home; five brothers, Herman Havens of East Liverpool, Delbert Havens of Delaware, Ohio, Danyer Havens of Chesapeake, Ohio, Willie Havens of Hager, and Roy Havens of Logan, W. Va., and two sisters, Mrs. Rachael Adkins of East Liverpool  and Miss Mary Havens of Hager.

        Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., at the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Arthur Williams.  Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday night.

 

Hendershot, Charles W. Hendershot

       Charles William Hendershot, 83, of Dalzell, Whipple, Route 1, died Monday morning, October 25, 1965, at 2:15 o’clock, in Marietta Memorial Hospital.  He was born at Germantown December 19, 1881, a son of the late Elias and Barbara Stegner Hendershot.  He was married to Della Dearth, who died November 28, 1961.

       Two brothers survive: Irvin Hendershot, of Dalzell, and John Hendershot, of Lower Salem Route, and a number of nieces and nephews.

       Five brothers, Joseph, Jacob, Peter, Manuel and Frank Hendershot, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, preceded him in death.

       Mr. Hendershot had been employed  by Pure Oil Co. for a number of years and for thirty-five years had operated a general store at Dalzell until his retirement in 1960.

       Short services were held Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 o’clock in the Doudna & McClure Funeral Home, at Marietta, with further services at the Dalzell Church of Christ at 1:30 o’clock.  Burial was in the Dalzell Cemetery.

 

Herlan, Nellie Herlan, nee Fowler

        Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Fowler Herlan, 67, of Canton, a former resident of Zanesville, were held Tuesday afternoon at Canton with burial in the Forest Lawn cemetery there.  She died Saturday at her home following a lingering illness.

        Born near Summerfield, she was the daughter of William and Ruth Fowler.  Her husband, Otto Herlan, who died in Oct. 1946, was a salesman for the Zanesville Fruit company.

        Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. R.N. Doyle of Alliance, Mrs. Ronald Creamer of North Canton, and Mrs. William Stevens and Mrs. Robert Harriman, both of Canton; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Foster of Bethesda hospital; and a brother-in-law, V.T. Herlan of Columbia street.

 

Hinman, Barbara Hinman nee Brownfield

QUAKER CITY – Mrs. Barbara Brownfield Hinman, 71, widow of Paul Hinman, died early Thursday morning at Barnesville Hospital where she had been a patient for several days.  She was born in Calais, Monroe County, April 25, 1894, the daughter of R. K. and Julietta Wells Brownfield, and was a member of the Valley Church.

She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Schatz, Columbus, and Miss Nora Brownfield, Quaker City; two brothers, Roy Brownfield, Columbus and Guy Brownfield, Quaker City; and several nieces and nephews.  Her husband, whom she married in 1922, died in 1934.

Friends will be received at the Eberle Funeral Home here after 1 p. m. Friday.  Services will be held there Saturday at 2 p. m. (EST) with Evangelist James Gallagher officiating.  Burial will be in Friends Cemetery.

        Survivors include her husband Walter of Brazil, Ind.; a son, Earl of Greencastle, Ind.; two brothers Earl and Hersal Smith of Muncie.

        Burial will be Tuesday in Brazil, with the Miller Funeral Home in charge.

        Miss Latta died Tuesday afternoon in a Cambridge hospital.

        The infant died Monday, November 29th at Barnesville Hospital.  Surviving are his parents, the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Leach of Barnesville; maternal grandfather, Forrest Jenewein of Barnesville and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Norman Jenewein of Woodsfield.

        William F. Matz, 88, 310 N. Main Street, Woodsfield, died Tuesday, May 4, at 3:20 p.m. at his residence.

        He was born September 25, 1876, near Lewisville, a son of the late Louis and Christina Mecklin Matz.

       Surviving are his widow, Mary Ann Schaub Matz; two daughters, Thelma Matz of the home, and Mrs. Sarah Borns of Iron River, Michigan; four sons, Herzel H. Matz of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Louis A. Matz of the home, Leland M. Matz of Cincinnati and Ralph E. Matz of Chillicothe; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.  He was the last of a family of 12 children.

        Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. George Corbitt officiating.  Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

        Mrs. Nancy E. McGrew, 76, 505 S. Miller St., died at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Major Hospital following surgery.

        Mrs. McGrew was born April 17, 1888, in Green [sic--Greene] County, Ind., and had resided here for the last 50 years.  She was the daughter of Zachariah and Cynthia (Britton) Price.  On Jan. 10, 1908, she was married to Leander McGrew who died March 29, 1936.

        Survivors include nine children.  Mrs. Opal Bohannon, Edward McGrew and Mrs. Evelyn Baxter, all of this city.  John McGrew of Ashland, N. H., Francis McGrew of St. Paul R. R. 1, Mrs. Thurston Shirley of Indianapolis, Mrs. Floyd McMichael of Columbus, Mrs. Tom Winterrowd of Boonville, and Mrs. Norman Mullen of Fairland; a sister, Mrs. Della Rumple of Carthage; two brothers, William Price of R. R. 2 and Asbury Price of Connersville; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Three children preceded in death.

        Mrs. McGrew was a member of the West Street Methodist Church and American War Mothers.

        Rev. Jerome Hyde will conduct services at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Ewing Mortuary.  Burial will be in the Milford Cemetery, south of St. Paul.  Friends may call at the mortuary after 4:00.

 

McKee , Mattie Louella Fordyce nee Yoho

McKEE, Mattie Louella, of Triadelphia RD 2, died Friday at her home. She formerly resided in Lawrenceville, Pa. She was born at Woodsfield, O., Dec. 27, 1889, a daughter of William and Sarah Smith Yoho and attended the Church of God.

Her husband George, died last July 16.

Surviving are three daughters, Sarah K. Miller of Triadelphia, Marie McCready of Wheeling and Betty Dombo of Yorkville; two sons, Richard and Clifford Fordyce of West Alexander; one sister, Mrs. Stella Hess of Wheeling; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends received at Kepner's 107 Key Ave. Funeral arrangements incomplete.

        He is survived by his wife, Gladys, Athens; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Casey, California; and one sister, Mrs. Hazel Dunn, Parkersburg.

        He was preceded in death by one brother, Carl.

        Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery, Hockingport.

       BARNESVILLE - Elmer W. Mellott, 89, of Akron, formerly of Barnesville, died at 6:47 a.m. after an illness in Green Cross Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls.
       Born in Monroe County, Sept. 3, 1876, he was the son of Resson and Hanna Myers Mellott. His wife, Effie, died in May 1953.
       He was a member of the First Christian Church of Barnesville, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose.
       Surviving are his son Orville with whom he lived in Akron; two brothers, Mancel of Pittsburg and Clyde of Steubenville; one sister, Mrs. Anna Landefeld of Canton and a half brother, Lumly Mellott of New Athens.
       The body was taken to Campbell Funeral Home in Cambridge where friends may call today after 3 p.m. DST.

ALBERT  MERCER  OF  SARDIS  RT.  1  DIES  MAY   5  AT  WORK;  FUNERAL  HELD  SATURDAY

        Albert Mercer, 55, of Sardis Rt. 1, died unexpectedly at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, while working on an Ohio River Sand and Gravel Co. boat near Marietta.  He suffered an apparent heart attack.

        Born in Paden City, W. Va., July 9, 1909, he was the son of Spout and Eva Long Mercer.

        He was a member of the Locust Grove Evangelical United Brethren Church, near Sardis and was a veteran of World War II.

        Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Rosella Fox, with whom he made his home, Mrs. Mary L. Felton of Paden City and Mrs. Lydia Hartman of Toronto, Ohio.

        Friends called at the Rush Funeral Home in Sardis.

        Services were held Saturday afternoon at Locust Grove EUB Church with the Rev. Frank Conley officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

MRS.  FLORENCE  MOOSE,  81,  DIES  SUNDAY;  SERVICES  HELD YESTERDAY

        Mrs. Florence Viola Moose, 81, of Woodsfield, died Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Bethesda Hospital in Zanesville after a few weeks illness.

        She was born Feb. 11, 1884, in Graysville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Baker.  She was the widow of Jacob Moose who died July 7, 1943.  She was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Woodsfield.

        Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Ricer of Cleveland, Mrs. Esther Antill of Woodsfield, Mrs. Mary Moore of New Matamoras and Mrs. Velma Tarleton of Caldwell; one sister, Mrs. Daisy Paine of E. Springfield O.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

        Friends called at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Paul Neville officiating.  Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

       Clyde Morris, 52 of 1278 Kansas av., died Thursday in Akron General Hospital after a two month illness.

       A life resident of Akron, Mr. Morris was a 27-year employee of Babcock & Wilcox in Barberton.

       He was a member of Ninth St. Church of Christ, Victory Lodge 649 F&AM, Yusef Khan Grotto, Scottish Rite, Valley of Akron, and Tadmor Shrine.

       Mr. Morris leaves his wife, Florence; a daughter, Suzanne, at home; a son, William D. of Cleveland; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Morris of Akron, and a sister, Mrs. Marjory Emery of Barberton.

       Services will be at 1 p. m. Monday in Schlup-Cox Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7:30 p. m. Saturday and in the afternoon and evening Sunday. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

        Mr. Morris was an employe of Custom Cleaners for five years until ill health forced him to quit work last month.
        He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.

        Surviving are his wife, Esther; sons, Seaman, 3/C. Robert, stationed at Virginia Beach, Va., and Richard, Ronald and Randy, all at home; daughters, Mrs. Sharon Decker of Chandler, Mrs. Marlene Adams of Boonville, and Miss Sonye [SIC–Sonya] Morris, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Morris of Tell City; brothers, Joseph, Robert and Arthur, all of Tell City, and Paul of Nebraska, Ind.; a sister, Miss Rosalie Morris of Tell City; and two grandchildren.

        Funeral will be at Fountain Terrace Chapel Monday at 8:30 a.m., and St. Benedict Church at 9.  Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

        St. Benedict Church members will recite the Rosary at the mortuary tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

        Marion Morris, 50, of Evansville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Morris of Tell City, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 19 at St Mary's Hospital following a lengthy illness.

        He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and had been employed by Custom Cleaners as a wool presser for five years before becoming ill October 9.  He left Tell City about 25 years ago.

        Also surviving are his wife, Esther; four sons, Robert, naval seaman third class at Virginia Beach, Va., Richard, Ronald and Randy, all at home; three daughters, Mrs. Sharon Decker of Chandler, Mrs. Marlene Adams of Boonville, and Sonya, at home; four brothers, Joseph, Robert and Arthur, all of Tell City, and Paul of Nebraska; a sister, Rosalie Morris of Tell City; and two grandchildren.

        Services were held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Fountain Terrace Chapel in Evansville and continued at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict church.  Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery.

        Members of St. Benedict parish recited the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

MRS. AUDRA NEIBCH, 72, DIES AT LEWISVILLE LAST FRIDAY

        Mrs. Audra Neibch, 72, of Lewisville, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, after an illness of a few days.

        Born March 3,* 1892, near Lewisville, she was the daughter of Andrew and Sarah Groves Schaub.  She was the widow of Elmer Neibch.

        Surviving are one daughter, Mrs.** Lavinda of the home; and three sisters, Mrs. W. F. Matz of Woodsfield, Mrs. Angie Steen of Wooster and Mrs. Pearl Stewart of Cambridge.

        Friends called at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home here, where services were held Monday afternoon with interment in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville.  Rev. Lester Flauhaus officiated.

        Mrs. Doriene E. Perkins, 54, of 378 N. Madison Ave. was dead on arrival at 11:30 p.m. Thursday at the Salem Central Clinic following a sudden heart attack.

        Born in Alliance May 27, 1911, she was the daughter of Alvie and Lydia Boston Stickle.

        She was a member of the First Friends Church.

        Her husband, Jack, died in 1945.

        She is survived by one son, Richard of Westville Lake; three grandchildren; her mother of Alliance; three sisters, Mrs. Eddy Zimmerman of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. James Brenneman of Wooster, and Mrs. Joseph Hartman of Canton; one brother, David of Canton.

        Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Stark memorial with the Rev. Harold B. Winn in charge.

        Friends may call at the memorial Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Services Yesterday For Wilbur J. Rogers, Novelty Farmer-Stockman

        Wilbur J. Rogers, a prominent farmer and stockman of six miles east of Novelty, died at 9:47 o'clock Monday morning, July 5, 1965, at the Laughlin Hospital in Kirksville where he had been a patient the last month.  He was 68 years old and had been ill only a short time.

        Funeral services were at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Mt. Salem Baptist Church, northeast of Plevna, with the pastor, the Rev. James Minor, and the Rev. Custer Vaughn of Edina officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  The body was taken from the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina at 11 o'clock yesterday morning to the Rogers residence and from there to the church for the services.

        He is survived by his wife, who before their marriage March 7, 1927, at Quincy, was Naomi C. Padgett, three brothers, Ralph J. Rogers of Shelbina, Sanford* E. Rogers of Novelty and Leon L. Rogers of Leonard, and a sister, Noma B., Mrs. Charles Johnson,** of Colorado Springs, Colo., and several nieces and nephews.

        Mr. Rogers was born Aug. 12, 1896, one of the five children of Joseph Clifton and Louise Mary Stalder Rogers, who were almost lifetime residents of the south part of Knox County in the Novelty vicinity.  They preceded their son in death, the father, July 20, 1946, and the mother March 5, 1956.  Wilbur Rogers was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Quincy and was a veteran of the Naval Reserve, having served from June 3, 1918, until Sept. 30, 1921.  After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Rogers moved to their present home where they have resided 38 years.

        One sister survives, Mrs. Paul D. Archer of Martins Ferry. There are 13 grandchildren.

        Mrs. Schaffner, a native of Van Wert County, Ohio, had been a winter resident of Marion County for the past five years, coming here from Grover Hill, Ohio.

        She is survived by her husband, Walter O. Schaffner; two sons, Doyt Schaffner, Van Wert, Ohio, Cahrol Schaffner, Grover Hill, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Olive Cole, Van Wert, Ohio, Mrs. Betty Collins, Convoy, Ohio; and two brothers, Oscar and Arona Blythe of Grover Hill, Ohio.

        Mrs. Schaffner's body will be flown today to Grover Hill, Ohio where funeral services and interment will be held Tuesday.

His first wife, Mrs. Kate Fry St. John, died June 1, 1948. His second wife, Mae, died one month ago. A son, Harold also preceded him in death. Surviving are a son, Lawrence of California; a granddaughter; and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Adams of New Philadelphia, O. Stalder, Frederick John Stalder

       "Fred"erick John Stalder was born on May 25, 1877 in Cortland, Nebraska. His parents, John and Mary Schell Stalder, homesteaded near Brooks, Iowa.

       Entered into rest on September 10, 1965 age 88 years, 3 months and 15 days. Services Monday, Sept. 13, 1965 at 2:30 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Church. Interment Methodist Grove Cemetery.

 

Stalder, William O. Stalder

Last Rites Held for W.O. Stalder

        Funeral services for W.O. Stalder, 83, were held on Saturday March 13, 1965 at 2:00 p.m. from the Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wilton Sinning of Corning officiating. The organist, Mr. Mabel Dunn, accompanied, Mrs. Carolyn Harris in the following vocal selections, "Death is Only a Dream" and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be." Flower bearers were Mrs. Veryl Ellis, Mrs. Elsie Gulick and Mrs. Doris Lane.

        Casketbearers included Ed Greenfield, Jerry Greenfield, Donald Pullen, Floyd Hamman, Alvin Stalder, and Russell Hedinger. Interment was in the Methodist Grove Cemetery.

        William Oscar Stalder was one of eight children born to John and Mary Schell Stalder. He was born June 13, 1881, at Courtland,* Nebraska, and died March 11, 1965, at Rosary Hospital, Corning, Iowa, having reached the age of 83 years, 8 months and 26 days.

        When still a child, he came with this parents to the Mt. Zion community and the remainder of his life was spent in the Brooks, Nodaway, and Mr. Zion area. His entire life was spent in farming.

        On July 26, 1904, he was married to Lulu M. Bowers and they became the parents of five children. Mrs. Stalder died on February 2, 1913. The young family struggled on and on May 23, 1916, he was married to Rose Harris at Villisca, Iowa. Three more children blessed the home and she preceded him in death on December 13, 1963.

        He leaves to mourn his passing one brother Fred of Brooks; one sister, Mrs. Ellen Hedinger of Brooks, eight** children; Charles W. of Brooks; J. Dale of Nodaway; Ester M. Pullen of Clarinda, Ruby E. Greenfield of Villisca, Ruth A. Lampe of Winterset, Harold I. of Downington, Pennsylvania, E. Marie Pullen of Denver, Colorado and James D. of Massena.

        He also leaves to mourn fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

        ** William Oscar Stalder and first wife Lulu Bowers had five children and he and second wife  Rose Harris  had two more children. James D. Stalder was the child of daughter Ruth Stalder, but he was raised by W.O. and Rose Stalder.

 

Stephen, Jennie Johnson nee Stephen or Stephan

MRS. JENNIE JOHNSON, 91, of Quaker City, died Sunday morning, June 13, 1965, at one o'clock, in Guernsey Memorial Hospital, Cambridge.

        She was born in Monroe County, September 10, 1873, the daughter of John R. and Louisa Herlan Stephen.

        Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Quaker City Methodist Church.

        Surviving are one daughter, Miss Helen Johnson. of Colonial Nursing Home, in Old Washington; two grandsons, James Johnson, of Washington, D.C. and Dr. John R. Johnson, of Madison, Wisconsin; one sister, Mrs. Louella Roe, of Columbus, and one brother, Fred Stephen, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

 

Stimpert, Ethel Stimpert nee Lieuellen

      Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Clem (Ethel) Stimpert of Blackwell, Oklahoma, which occurred on Wednesday October 20, 1965 in Poca City Hospital, Poca City, Oklahoma, following an illness of several months.

      Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at Blackwell on Saturday morning.  Burial was at Blackwell.

      Surviving are a son, Ronald*  Stimpert, of Blackwell;  two brothers, William Robinson of Blackwell and Luther Robinson of Millersburg, Ohio;  one sister Mrs. H. G. Herlan, of Columbus, and several nieces and nephews.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, and three sisters,  Mrs. H. G. Buckingham, of Cambridge;  Mrs. William Draper of Lewisville;  and Mrs. H.P. Gibson of Summerfield.

Sullivan, Kandy (Candy)* Sullivan

        Attempts to revive a 23 month old girl who had fallen into a lily pond in the north end of Barnesville, failed last Thursday afternoon and she was dead on arrival at the Barnesville hospital.

        The youngster was Candy* Sullivan, daughter of Richard and Mary Carpenter Sullivan of Canton who had been visiting with her mother who is expecting the birth of another child soon, at the the home of Mrs. Sullivan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Carpenter, North Chestnut street.

        The child apparently wandered away from the home about 4 P.M. and fell into the lilly pond on Kennard avenue, a short distance from the home of her grandparents.

        The girl was found by her grandmother and was given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation by a neighbor and also by ambulance attendants on the way to the hospital, attempts to revive her being futile.

        Services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Campbell funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock by the Rev. Larry Miracle, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial was made in Crestview cemetery.

        Besides the parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Carpenter, Barnesville, and Mr. and Mrs. James E. Sullivan, of Canton.

Tighe, Bertha A. Tighe, nee Emig

        Mrs. Bertha A. Tighe, 83, formerly of 14 Ravine Park Village, died yesterday in the Montrie Nursing Home.

        Born in Sidney, O., Mrs. Tighe lived in Toledo 60 years.  She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church.

        Surviving are her sons, Eugene and Richard Stickle, and George Tighe, all of Toledo, and Robert Tighe, Sabina, O.; stepdaughter, Mrs. Lillian Eckleberry, Maumee, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

        Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Glenwood Lutheran Church with burial in Toledo Memorial Park.  The body will be in the Clegg Mortuary until 11 a.m. Wednesday.

 

Ulrich, Mary Elizabeth Dick Ulrich

Summerfield -- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ulrich, 45, of near Lewisville, died of an apparent heart attack at her home at 9 p.m. Saturday (May 8). She was born in Monroe County, June 30, 1919, daughter of Fred and Martha Schoeppner Dick.

Mrs. Ulrich is survived by her husband Alex, her mother, Mrs. Martha Dick of Woodsfield, two sons, Freddie and Joseph of the home, three daughters Margaret and Theresa of the home, and Mrs. Jack Brown of Lewisville, two brothers, Joseph and Clarence of Lewisville; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Madison of Woodsfield and Mrs. Frank Ross of Carroll; and one grandchild.

Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burkhart with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home here 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

 

Voland, Blanche Voland, nee Mitten

Mrs. Blanche Voland

        Mrs. Blanche D. Voland, 51, a resident of Gas City for 35 years, but a native of Huntington, died about 12:20 p.m. Saturday at the Marion General Hospital.  She had been ill for a year and in serious condition since Nov. 4.

        She lived at 222 E. S. "E" St.

        She is survived by two sons, James and Jerry Vollen [sic], both of Gas City; four step-sons, George and Francis Voland, both of Marion, and Quindal and Ira Voland Jr. both of Gas City; her mother, Mrs. Lula Mitten, Huntington; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Allen, Toledo, and Pauline Mitten, Huntington, and 14 step-grandchildren.

        The body was taken to the Bailey Funeral Home in Huntington, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today.

        Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery, Huntington.

 

Voland, Orville Voland

       Orville E. Voland, 63, a resident of 1035 Gomo Ct., the past five months, died at 3:50 p.m. yesterday in Methodist Hospital where he had been a pateint [sic--patient] since Jan. 16.

        A resident of Peoria for 40 years, he was employed as a driver for Hill Freight Lines, Inc., the past 10 years, retiring in 1961.  He was a member of the Teamsters and Chauffers Union, Local 627; Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Arcadia Avenue Presbyterian Church.

        He was born April 11, 1901, the son of George and Emma Tull Voland.  He married Edna G. Buracker in 1927 in Peoria.

        Surviving are his wife; two sons, George Voland, Farmington; Herman Bailey, Altona, Ill.; four brothers, Forrest Voland, Peoria, Allen Voland, Chenoa, Ill.; Fred Voland, Strawberry Point, Iowa; Chester Voland, Independence, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ora (Nellie) Lary, Manchester, Iowa; and seven grandchildren.  One son, Harry, preceded him in death in 1955.  He also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

        Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wilton Mortuary with the Rev. E. L. Fernandes officiating.  Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Garden.

        Friends may call at the mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

 

Waggle, Wayne V. Waggle

       Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Campbell Funeral Home on North Chestnut Street for Wayne V. Waggle, resident of 812 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville. Evangelist James W. Gallagher and Fred Bennett officiated and interment was in Crestview Cemetery.

       Mr. Waggle passed away suddenly at Barnesville Hospital Sunday night April 18th at 7. He was born in Belmont County, near Malaga on June 21, 1895 a son of Robert J. and Mary Thornberry Waggle, and at an early age became a member of the Bush Church of Christ in Malaga.

       He was a retired employe of the United Dairy Company, where he was employed as a field man for 17 years.

       On March 26, 1919 he was united in marriage to Mary B. Moore.

       Bereaved by his death are his widow of the home; one son, John R. Waggle, two grandchildren, Bruce and Susan Waggle, all of Barnesville, and one brother, Walter R. Waggle of Bannock.

 

Watson, Cyrus H. Watson

        WATSON, Cyrus H., age 68, of 901 Cottonwood Rd., died Sat.  He was the organizer of the Dayton Insurance Service, serving as president and general manager from 1936 until his retirement in 1962.  Served as a captain in the Marine Corps, World War I.  He was a Mason and a Shriner, also a member of the Fairmont Presbyterian church.  Survived by his wife, Lucile; 2 sons, Lewis S. and John C., all of Dayton; 2 sisters, Mrs. John Holden, Martinsville, Ind., Mrs. Robert Van Hoy, Waverly, Ind., 4 grandchildren.  Funeral Tues., 1:30 p.m., Meyer & Boehmer Funeral Home, 1733 Brown St., Rev. Weber, Benjamin Otto Weber

       Benjamin O. Weber, 74, of Lewisville, a retired blacksmith, died Saturday night, December 4, 1965, at 11:45 o’clock, at his home after several months’ illness.

       Mr. Weber was born November 18, 1891, in Monroe County, a son of George L. and Rose Ann Christman Weber.

       Surviving are his widow, Nellie; three daughters, Mrs. William (Catherine) Weber, of Pasadena, Texas; Mrs. Donald (Marjorie) CadWallader, of New Philadelphia, and Mrs. Willis R. (Dorothy) Petit, of Akron; two sons, Lewis E. Weber, of Akron, and Paul L. Weber, of Lebanon, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Freda Landefeld, of Columbus; and four brothers, Gilbert Weber, of Woodsfield; Solomon Weber, and Walter Weber, of near Lewisville, and Homer Weber of Oblong, Illinois.

       Mr. Weber was a member of the Buchanan Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at ten o’clock in Buchanan Presbyterian Church with Rev. Boyd S. Burd officiating.

       Burial was in Friendship Cemetery, at Lewisville, with the Gardner Funeral Home in charge. 

 

Wise, Delbert S. Wise

Hurt     In     Ont.     Still     Serious

        Two Akron area women remain in serious condition today in Bracebridge Hospital in Orilla, Ont., after an auto accident Saturday which killed the husband of one.

        Dead is Delbert S. Wise, 68, 371 Wayne st., Barberton.  His wife, Lilly, 69, and his stepdaughter, Mrs. Myrtle Darrah, 49, of 2101 Pressler rd., Akron, underwent surgery for their injuries.

        Two other passengers in the car driven by Mrs. Darrah, Randall Combs, 14, of 2066 Moler dr., Akron, and a 7-year-old cousin, Daniel of 2080 Moler dr., were not hurt.

        Police said the car rammed a rock pile along Highway 11 near Gravehurst, Ont.  The five were on their way to a fishing vacation.

        BARBERTON -- Services for Delbert S. Wise, 68, of 371 Wayne st. will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Campfield-Hickman Funeral Home.

        Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Akron.

        Wise was killed in an auto accident Saturday in Ontario, Canada.  His wife, Lilly, 69, and step-daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Darrah, 49, of 2101 Pressler rd., Akron, were also  injured.  The two are reported recovering today after surgery.

        Also surviving are stepsons, Hubert and Matthew Combs of Akron, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

        Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday.

Yoho, Sarah Yoho, nee Buchanan

        Mrs. Sarah Yoho, 82, of the Woodsfield-Lewisville Road, died Friday morning, January 1, 1965, at 4:15 o'clock at her home after a two weeks illness.

        She was born near Woodsfield, November 3, 1882, a daughter of the late Clelland and Lucinda Schell Buchanan, and was the widow of E.F. Yoho, who died June 8, 1948.

        Mrs. Yoho was a member of the Buchanan Presbyterian Church Monroe Rebeka Lodge No. 645 Woodsfield and Center Grange.

        Surviving are a son; Lynn Yoho, of the home and a granddaughter, Miss Barbara Yoho of Columbus.

        Rebekah ritualistic services were held at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home on Saturday evening at 7:30 o'clock.

        Funeral services were held in their chapel on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, with Rev. Boyd Burd officiating. Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery.
