I. W. Abel, dies
Mrs. I. W. Abel, the former Bernice Joseph of East Sparta,
died Sunday in Sun City, Ariz., after a long illness.
Her husband had been president of United Steelworkers of
America and they moved to Sun City five years ago when he retired. He was from nearby Magnolia and they were
married June 27, 1930 in Wellsburg, W. Va. Methodist Church. He became active in the labor movement after
starting to work at the Timken Co. and by 1942 was elected director of
seven-county District 27. He was
elected international secretary-treasurer in 1952 and was elected president in
1965.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Abel is survived by
daughters Mrs. Ben (Karen) Jones of Maple Glen, Pa., and Mrs. Michael (Linda)
Goldberg of Fairfax Station, Va., and five grandchildren.
Services are pending at Lumberg funeral home in Sun City.

Former Ashland and Sullivan area resident Don Ballou, 84,
died Dec. 27 in Brooksville, Fla.
He was a retired painter and was a native of Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; one daughter, Phyllis
Sufferon of Fairborn; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and one sister, Elma
Ballou Stahl of North Canton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Kysor
Ballou and one son, Merle.
Memorial Masonic services will be held in Savannah at a
later date.*

George Dewey Bates, 83, of Route 3,
Woodsfield, died Oct. 24 at his home. He was born
He was a retired oil field worker, a member
of the Rich Fork Church of Christ.
Mr. Bates is survived by three sons: George
L. of Route 3, Woodsfield; Robert C. and William L., both of Ashland; two
daughters; Jane Russell of Wheeling; Martha Highman of Ashland; fourteen
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by four brothers;
Frank, Clayton, Richard and Lawrence.
Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner
Funeral Home, Woodsfield Tuesday where services were held Wednesday with
Minister Harry Summers in charge. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

FAIRLAWN -- Ernest K. Bean, 66, died after a one-year
illness Dec. 23.
He was born in Mason County, Ky., and had lived in Akron
since 1983. He was a member of First United
Methodist Church of Akron and graduated from the Kentucky Wesleyan College cum
laude with a B.A. in chemistry in 1937, the University of Kentucky with a
master's degree in chemistry and the University of Akron School of Law in 1943. He was a former trustee of the First United
Methodist Church of Akron, and was a member of the American and Ohio Bar
Associations. He helped establish a
licensing program worldwide in the field of polyvinyl chloride, and was responsible
for developing a patent portfolio for PVC.
He was assistant general counsel working on B.F. Goodrich's
environmental programs. He was past
president of the Cleveland Patent Law Association, and a member of Corporate
Patent Counsel. He started with the
B.F. Goodrich Co. in 1953 as general patent counsel and became assistant
general counsel in 1975. He retired
in1979 with 25 years service.
He is survived by wife, Robbie; sons, Rev. E. Randall Bean
of Mendham, N.J., Gregory R. Bean of Stow, Eric J. Bean of New York City, N.Y.;
daughters, Mrs. Shirley Pickle of Uniontown, Mrs. David W. Richey of Owensboro,
Ky.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, William C. Bean of
Maysville, Ky.; sister, Mrs. Anna B. Thomas of Maysville, Ky.
Services Monday, 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist
Church, 263 E. Mill St., with Rev. Douglas B. Denton officiating. Interment Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Billow Fairlawn
Chapel Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Clinical Research at Akron
General Medical Center Oncology Department.

Donald J. Beck, 52, of Hartsville, a rural mail carrier in
the Hartsville, Westport, and Hope areas since 1963, died unexpectedly at 10:20
p.m. Saturday at Bartholomew County Hospital.
Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dallas
Collier and the Rev. Albert Harke at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Norman Funeral Home
in Hope where persons may call from 4 to 9 o'clock tonight. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Beck was born in Hartsville May 31, 1929 to the late
Theodric Beck and Mary Covert Beck White of Columbus. He married Sandra Bishop June 24, 1962, and she also survives.
Beck was a member of the Hartsville Christian Church,
Hartsville Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the American Legion, and was a
veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving with the wife and mother are two daughters Shari
and Debbie Beck, both at home; one sister, Colleen Gommel of Columbus; and
three brothers, Morris Beck of Franklin, Byron Beck of Marion, and James Beck
of Calhoun, Ga.

There was much sadness among friends and relatives of
Laclede County, when they received news of the death of Lee Blair of Charlotte,
N.C. Sept 14.
Robert Lee Blair was born April 21, 1907 to Luther W. and
Arta Erwin Blair, at the farm home near Phillipsburg, and died at Mercy
Hospital in Charlotte after he had lost the battle with cancer.
Lee attended school in Laclede County. He was married to Roberta Bramhall Aug. 1,
1925 in Lebanon. They lived in Tulsa,
Okla., where Lee was employed for 30 years with the Kerr Glass Corp. as
diversified sales manager, moving after his retirement in 1966 to Charlotte.
He was a member of the Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Services were held in the Harry and Bryant Chapel with his
minister, the Rev. Neil McMilian and the Rev. David Trammel, minister of Sharon
Forest Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial was in Sharon Memorial Park.
Lee is survived by his wife, Roberta; a son, Robert Lee
"Jack" Blair of Charlotte; a daughter, Mrs. Charles V.
"Sue" Shelf of Marshville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; three brothers,
Russell of Springfield, J. Wallace of Phoenix, Ariz., and P. Wayne of
Wilmington, N.C.; and many friends.
Lee was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Louise; a
sister, Mary Lucille, and his parents.

Francis F. Borns, 72, of Iron River,
Mich. and 310 N. Main St., Wdsf, Ohio, died Aug. 4, 1982 at his home in
Wdsf. He was born Sept. 10, 1909 in
Florence, Wisconsin, son of the late Fred A. and Iris Berra Borns. He was a retired employee of the Chicago
North Western Railroad. Mr. Borns was a
member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River and a Veteran of World War
II. A member of Brotherhood of
Maintenance of Railway employees.
Surviving are his wife Sarah Matz Borns, an aunt, Mrs. Irene Borns Hoar
and an uncle, Marvin Borns of Iron River.
Several Cousins and many friends.
Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, with
Deacon Ronald Griffith of St. Sylvesters Catholic Church officiating, assisted
by M. Katherine Lunau of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery,
Woodsfield. Pallbearers were Ralph E.
Matz, James F. Matz, Michael Matz, Lewis Wayne Matz, Glenn Ludwig and Thomas
Hanley.

in Martins Ferry. Evangelist

Born April 8, 1931, in Barnesville, he was the son of Thomas
and Esther Wright Bunting. He was a Protestant.
He is survived by a brother, James Bunting of
Barnesville and a sister, Mrs. Joan Gore of Cleveland.

BARNESVILLE---Charles
J. Carpenter, 42, of S. Chestnut St., Barnesville, died Thursday at University
Hospital, Columbus.
He
was born June 1, 1940, at Beallsville, son of Edna McDougal and the late
Charlie Carpenter. He was a brick mason
with Consolidated Aluminum in Hannibal and a member and deacon of First
Christian Church, Barnesville. He
belonged to Masonic Lodge 68 FA&AM,
Masonic Lodge R&AM and Council 97 R&AM, all of Barnesville,
Cambridge Commandry and Knights Templar.
He was also a member of United Steelworkers of America.
In
addition to his mother of Beallsville;
he leaves his wife, Peggy Dyer Carpenter; two sons, Ty Carpenter and Adam Carpenter of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Dawn) Barker of
Barnesville; two brothers, Glen of
Beallsville and Robert of Rittman; six
sisters, Mrs. Winnie Acher of Wadsworth,
Mrs. Mary Lucas of Rock Springs, Wyo.,
Mrs. Ruth Grossenbacher of Seville,
Mrs. Erma Agin of Bucyrus and Mrs. Betty King and Mrs. Doris Bourne,
both of Orville.

Miss Hallie Carpenter, 85, formerly of
Noble County, died at 10:45 P.M. Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1982) at Coshocton County
Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 4, 1897, in Monroe County, the daughter of
the late James and Mary Carpenter. She was a member of the Church of Christ at
West Lafayette.
Miss Carpenter leaves four nieces,
Mrs. Edith Bates of West Lafayette, Mrs. Nancy Moore of Coshocton, Miss Phyllis
Leach and Mrs. Betty Casey, both of Mt. Ephraim; and one nephew, Clinton Leach
of West Lafayette. Twelve brothers and sisters are deceased.
Graveside services will be Friday at
1:30 P.M. at Calais Cemetery with Evangelist Mike David officiating. Bundy-Law
Funeral home has charge of arrangements.

Carpenter, 85, of Lewisville were at 1 P.M. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home,
Woodsfield. Burial was in Calais Cemetery.
Mr. Carpenter died Friday afternoon
(April 2, 1982) at Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Beverly. He was a retired
farmer and merchant.
Preceding him in death were his first
wife, Viola Stephens Carpenter, in 1956 and his second wife, Stella Carpenter,
in 1980.
He leaves four sisters, Mrs. Sally
Miller, of Quaker City, Mrs. Lillian Newhart of Old Washington, Mrs. Thelma
Kane of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Edrie Margutie of Midway City, Calif.; three
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dale E. Cathers, 76, of 2003 California, died unexpectedly
at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday at Major Hospital at Shelbyville.
Before his retirement he worked many years as a
self-employed trucker and stock trader.
Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dallas
Collier at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Norman
Funeral Home at Hope, where persons may call from 4 until 9 p.m. Friday
and until time of service Saturday.
Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Cathers was born in Bartholomew County Sept. 20, 1905, the
son of William T. and Lillie Emmert Cathers.
He married Gladys Campbell Dec. 22, 1943, and she survives.
A veteran of World War II, Cathers was a member of Memorial
Baptist Church and the Adult Bible class there.
Memorials may be made through Norman Funeral Home to
Memorial Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.

Lloyd W. Christman, 82, of Cucamonga, died April 8 at
Onatrio Nursing Home. A retired owner
and operator of Christman Body in Ontario for 30 years, 1923 to 1953, he was a
native of Greeley, Colo.,and an Ontario resident 63 years. Veteran of the Army in World War I.
Member of Euclid Avenue Camera Club, Cucamonga First United Methodist
Church. He is survived by two sons,
Rolland of Ontario and Gene M. Christman of Berkeley; and three
grandchildren. Services will be held at
10 a.m. Monday at the Richardson-Peterson Chapel. Entombment, Bellevue Mausoleum.

one sister, Mabel Hamlyn, Acton; nine grandchildren, and five
great-grandchildren.

WELLSVILLE - Services for Mark S. Craven, 24, will be held
at 1 p.m. Thursday from the MacLean Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Iddings,

Mr. Craven, formerly of 1629 Clark Ave., a U.S. Army
private at Fort Stewart, Ga., was fatally injured in a jeep accident Saturday
morning near the base. He died at St.
Joseph Hospital about 3 p.m.
He was born June 14,
1958, in East Liverpool to Kenneth and Judith Trembaly Craven of 1629 Clark
Ave.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife,
Tammy Powers Craven of Wellsville; one daughter, Nicole Craven, at the home; a
brother, William D. Craven of Wellsville; a sister, Lisa Craven of Wellsville;
and a grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Trembaly of East Liverpool.

Ernest M. DeLong, 64, of 210 Chestnut
St. was pronounced dead on arrival at Marietta Memorial Hospital at 6:27 p.m.
Tuesday.
He was born May 20, 1917, in Stark
County* to Thomas and Annabelle Brownfield Delong. He was a retired letter carrier for the Marietta Post Office and
a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a member of the Church of Christ at
Sixth and Washington streets where he had taught Bible classes and led singing
for a number of years.
On Oct. 16, 1944, he married the former
Kathryn Wise, who survives along with several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Harold, Wilbert and George.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at
the Hadley Funeral Home in Marietta with Donald Craighead and Jess Nutter
officiating. Burial will be in Valley
Cemetery. Friends may call at the
funeral home today.

Raymond C. Drew, 75, 437 Colescott St., died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at W.S. Major Hospital where he
had been admitted earlier that day. He
had been in failing health since December, 1981.
Mr. Drew retired in 1972 from Great States Corp., where he
had been an inspector. He was a veteran
of the Army Medical Corps, serving in World War II, and was a member of the
American Legion Post here.
Born Dec. 13, 1906 in Richmond, Mr. Drew was a son of John
and Anna (Grant) Drew. On June 4, 1938,
in Shelbyville, he married Wilma Lee who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John Drew, Shelbyville, and
Wendell Drew, Omaha, Neb.; three brothers and one sister, George and Mark Drew,
Indianapolis, and Delbert Drew and Mrs. Alice Zurwell, both of Richmond; three
granddaughters; and one step-grandson.
One son, Emerson Drew, two sisters and two half-sisters
preceded in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Murphy Mortuary with
the Rev. William Ernst officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. The local American Legion post will conduct military graveside
rites. Friends may call at the mortuary
from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday.

Robert Drummond, 61, of 4 Spring St., Bridgeport, died
Tuesday in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. He was born Dec. 12, 1920 in Bridgeport, a son of the late Carl
and Nellie Chippe Drummond.
He was co-owner and operator of the Keyboard Galleries,
Wheeling and Music City, Steubenville.
He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Follansbee,
W. Va., Wheeling Elks Lodge No. 28, Wheeling Kiwanis, Wheeling Musicians Union
No. 1046, and was a veteran of World War II.
He was also director of the membership drive for the YMCA, Wheeling.
Surviving are his wife, Mary K. Hatch Drummond, and a son,
Robert Carl of Bridgeport.
Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home,
Bridgeport, 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, where
services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Paul Van Dyke
officiating. Burial in Linwood

wife, Hilda Ann Nalley Eckhardt; a daughter, Mrs. Edmund (Mary) Amrhein of Mt.
Olivet; two granddaughters, Barbara Sloan of St. Clairsville and Mrs. Donald
(Lynn) Blazina of Steamwood, Ill,; a great-granddaughter, Michelle Blazina of
Steamwood. Friends will be received at

BARBERTON -- Margery Emery, 61, of 247 6th St. N.W., went home to be with the Lord
Sept. 14 after a long illness.
A resident of Barberton 22 years, she was a member of the
Reformed Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints of Barberton, and had
been known by CB'ers as Rhubarb.
Mrs. Emery is survived by husband, Carl; daughters, Sharon
Minard of Canal Fulton, Carla Sharier of Independence, Mo., Dawn Boord of
Barberton; grandchildren, Sheila Sharier, Kimberly, Michael, and Aaron Minard,
Nicole Boord; sister, Genova Derth [sic--Dearth] of Weirton, W. Va.; and
brother, Bill Morris of Akron.

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Bradley Thomas Engle, 29, formerly of
Marietta, Ohio, died Aug. 30 at his home.
Cause of death was not reported.
He was born March 18, 1953,
at Marietta to Charles and Martha Engle of Vero Beach. He was a graduate of Marietta High School
and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Marietta.
He moved to Bradenton several eyars ago and was employed by
the Tropitone Furniture Co.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two children,
Leon and Jennifer Engle of Bradenton, four brothers, Philip and Jeffrey of
Marietta, Mike of Houston, Tex. and Chuck of Orlando, a sister, Sue Ellen of
Columbus, Ohio and his paternal grandmother, Amelia Engle of Lowell, Ohio.
Arrangements were being made by the Strunk Funeral Home at
Vero Beach. The family requests no
flowers be sent.

She leaves her husband, Robert Eschbaugh, whom she married
Sept. 27,1949;* a daughter, Mrs. Jerald (Janice) Denius of Salesville; two
brothers, Robert E. Windom of Melbourne, Fla., and William Windom of Cleveland;
two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Betty) Shedlock of New Port Richey, Fla., and Mrs.
Edward (Eleanor) Burcher of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Miller and the Rev. Charles Clark officiating. Burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Fred B. Fagel,
83, 720 Second St., a retired truck driver, died at 4:30 a.m. today at
the Heritage Manor. Mr. Fagel had been
in poor health for seven years and in the manor for seven months. He retired in 1963 after working many years
as a truck driver for the old Root Transit Co.
He was born September 24, 1898 in Shelby County, the son
of John and Nancy Fagel. He married Ellen Pope
who died in 1948. They had a son
who died in infancy.
On August 30, 1958, Mr. Fagel married Olive Stroup who survives at home. Also
surviving are two sisters, Mary
Griffith and Goldie Cotton of
Shelbyville, and three nieces. A sister
preceded in death.
He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, the Shelbyville
Eagles Lodge, Teamsters Local 135 and the Shelby County Senior Citizens
organization.
The Rev. Ron Riggs will conduct a funeral service for Mr.
Fagel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Carmony Funeral home here. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at
the funeral home. Burial will be in the
Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Born March 7, 1935, in Greene County, he was the son of

Hospital in Cleveland following a long illness.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Gill was born in New
Matamoras, a son of Isaac E. Gill and Leota Morris Gill.
He was a mechanic for the M. & J. Trucking Co. of
Chester, and attended the Assembly of God Church.
His wife, Lucy Gill, died June 11, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence E. Gill at home and

died Friday morning in the Washington County Home.
She was born Jan. 3, 1892, in

She was married to Benjamin Goddard, who preceded her in death,

of 31 Cedarwood Drive, died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday in Alliance City Hospital after
a long illness.
Mrs. Goodballet was born June 10,
1917, in Sebring, a daughter of Samuel Sr. and Garnet Laughlin Hutmacher. She was a retired head cook in the Sebring
School System, a past secretary-treasurer of the Sebring Volunteer Fire
Department Ladies Auxiliary and a past matron of the Alma Chapter 498 Order of
the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Goodballet was also a member of
Sebring Church of Christ and the Sebring VFW Ladies Auxiliary and.* Her husband, George S. died in 1981.
Besides her father of Sebring, she
leaves a son, George S. Jr. of Boardman; three daughters, Mrs. Garnet Yaggi of
Sebring, Mrs. Joyce Cameron of Homeworth and Mrs. Janet Herrmann of Stoneboro,
Pa.; three brothers, Lloyd Hutmacher and Dean Hutmacher, both of Sebring, and

Tuesday at the Seederly-Mong Funeral Home for Mrs. Helen H. Goodballet, 80, of
320 E. Chestnut St., a former schoolteacher, who died of a stroke at 11:22 a.m.
Friday in Northern Columbiana County Hospital, Salem. She had been ill one year.
Mrs. Goodballet was born Oct. 20,
1901, in Lisbon, a daughter of Clarence and Georgianna Hammond Trunick. She had taught her first year at Negley and
the last 38 years in Lisbon schools.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lisbon, where she had
taught Sunday school classes, and the church's Naomi-Ruth Circle.
Mrs. Goodballet also belonged to Ivy
Chapter 113, Order of the Eastern Star, the Columbiana County, state and
national teachers associations, and the American Association of Retired
Persons.
Her husband, Edwin, whom she married
Oct. 10, 1941, died Feb. 3, 1969.

Mrs. Clara Goodwin, 89, died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday,
January 13, 1982 at the Stark County Health Center.
She was born November 24, 1892 in Toulon the daughter of
Christy and LaVina Kinkade Sorenson She
married W. O. Goodwin, July 5, 1913 in Rock Island.
She lived all her life in Toulon with the exception of five
years in Queenswood Nursing Home, Morton.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Katherine) Patterson
of Toulon and Mrs. Helen Montgomery of Chicago, one son, Robert of Morton, six grandchildren,
nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one
brother, several half brothers and half sisters.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Toulon
Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Brackett officiating.
Visitation was held from noon until 1:45 p.m. at the Kidd
Funeral Home.

He was born July 7, 1916 in Plymouth
Township. A lifetime resident of the
area, he was a farmer and boilermaker employed for nine years at Jefferson
Elementary School.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, Roy and Lena; a brother and his first wife, Florence Shepard.
He was an honorary volunteer fireman
in Austinburg after serving the department for 20 yars. [sic] He was a member of VFW posts in both
Austinburg and Rock Creek. During World
War II, he was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in Africa. He was a former member of the Rock Creek
Conservation Club.
He is survived by his wife, Velda;
sons Kenneth Lee, of Utah; Roy of North Carolina, Glen, living in Germany, and
daughters* Mrs. Richard (Vivian) Park, Rochester, N.Y.; one brother, Wade of
Colorado; a sister, Mrs. Henry (Betty) Evergreen of Ashtabula and 11

p.m. at the Lehnert Funeral Home. The
Rev. William F. Hamel, of Austinburg First Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery. Graveside services were performed by the

Clyde T. Henninger, 70, Indianapolis, a retired
Indianapolis policeman, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
He retired in 1965 as a police lieutenant and head of the
property room after 20 years of service.
He was a purchasing agent and chief inspector for the
director of printing, State of Indiana, from 1965 to1974.
He was a member of the Indianapolis Police Department
Retired Officers Club, the Indianapolis Police Protective Association and
Retired (Navy) Officers Association of Indiana. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He also belonged to Ancient Landmarks Lodge No. 319,
Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, American Legion Post No. 56 and the Pike Township
Republican Club.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Flanner and
Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until the
service Saturday.

Mrs. Goldie Jacobs, 85, a life resident of 717 N. Franklin,
died at 3:50 a.m. today (April 19, 1982) at the Inter-National Nursing
Home. She had been in failing health 15
months.
Mrs. Jacobs had operated the Coffee Cup located on South
Vermilion for many years.
Born Jan. 9, 1997, in Catlin, Ill., she was a daughter of
Daniel and Lucretia Neal. She married
Albert Jacobs April 11, 1924, in Covington, Ind. He preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1973.
She is survived by two sons, James Jacobs of Danville and
George Roth of Milwaukee; a brother, James Neal of Florida; and a sister, Edith
Sanders of Kingman, Ind.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Wilson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Lakeside
Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Smith officiating. Burial will be in Stearns Cemetery at
Fithian, Ill.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral

Flora E. Kallenbach, 91, Versailles,
died at 2:27 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 1982 at Culbertson Hospital in
Rushville. She was a housewife.
Born in Pike County December 9, 1890,
she was the daughter of William and Lucitta Keylor Griewe.* She attended Pike County schools and the
Zion Lutheran Church.
On February 23, 1921 she married John
Kallenbach in Pike County. He preceded
her in death in 1969.
Survivors include a daughter Mrs.
Herschel (Dorothy) Frost, Versailles; three sons, Wilbur of Perry, Virgil of Mt
Sterling, and Donald of Versailles; two sisters, Mrs. Iva Liehr and Mrs.
Francis (Nina) Morath, both of Versailles; nine grandchildren and eight
gret-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded
in death by two brothers, a sister, and a grandson Terry.
Services were held Tuesday, June 22, 1982
at 1 p.m. at the Hufnagel Funeral Home with the Rev Donald Duncan
officiating. Mrs. Wilma Behymer was
organist and Lozelle Burnett sang "The Old Rugged Cross: and "Sweet
Bye and Bye."
Casketbearers were her grandsons and
great-grandsons John Kallenbach, David Kwiecinski, Paul Kallenbach, John Frost,
Wayne Phillips and Ed Phillips.
Burial was in the Hebron
Cemetery. Hufnagel Funeral Home was in
charge of services.

Lawrence R. Lantz Sr., 67, of Evans
died Friday, July 2, at North Colorado Medical Center.
He was born May 23, 1915, at Sylvan
Grove, Kan., to Miles H. and Albina (Volok) Lantz.
On. Jan. 6, 1946, he was married to
Virginia B. Briggs at Greeley.
Lantz was an auto upholsterer for Weld
County Garage. He came to Greeley in
1938. He entered the U.S. Army Nov. 1,
1941, and was discharged Oct. 30,1945, serving during World War II in Normandy,
northern France, the Rhineland and Ardennes.
After being discharged, he returned to Colorado and worked for the Widmar
Garage in Ault until going to work for the Weld County garage where he was
employed until his retirement in 1981.
He is survived by his
wife, Virginia of Greeley; a son, Larry R. Lantz Jr. of Greeley; four sisters,
Vera Reed of LaJunta, Ruth Schuler of Gaylord, Mich., Dorothy Patrick of Utah
and Della Deatherage of Salina, Kan.; five brothers, Harrison of Evans, Calvin
of Hutchinson, Kan., Cecil of Hays, Kan., Earl and Frank, both of Salina, Kan.,
and four grandchildren. A sister is
deceased.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Adamson Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Don
R. Lane will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Born Nov. 8, 1913, in Jennings County, Mr. McGrew was a son
of Lee and Nancy (Price) McGrew. In
1934 he married Margaret Burnes, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Charles McGrew,
Versailles, Mrs. R. D. (Carol Sue) Cepeda, San Antonio, Texas, T. Sgt. David
McGrew, Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Joan Arthur, Shelbyville; 17 grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.

(Nov. 5, 1982) in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.,
following a lengthy illness.
Mr. McPeek was born Feb. 28, 1921,* at Batesville, son of
Shirley McPeek of Batesville and the late Franklin McPeek.
Mr. McPeek lived in the Batesville and Quaker City areas
while in Ohio. He was retired.
In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife, Dean. In addition to his father, he was preceded
in death by two brothers, Heber McPeek and Guy Betts.

daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joyce A.) Wallace of Weirton; three sisters, Mrs.

East Liverpool City Hospital School of Nursing, and was a nurse at City
Hospital and the former Osteopathic Hospital.
Mrs. Moore was a member of the Grace
United Presbyterian Church, its Women's Association, the Four Square Sunday
School Class and the Martha Circle.
She served as chairman of the City
Hospital Floral Committee.
Her husband, Charles H. Moore, died
Dec. 11, 1971.
Survivors include a son, Charles D.
Moore of North Royalton, and four grandsons.

He was a retired civil engineer and surveyor for the state of Ohio
having worked 36 years for the state.
A veteran of WW II, he was a member
of the Caldwell VFW, the Caldwell United Methodist Church and the Ohio Society
of Professional Engineers.

18, in the Barnesville Hospital.
He was born Oct.31, 1889 on Lewisville Route 1, son of the
late Jacob and Lucetta Bintz Neuhardt.
He was a retired state Civil Service Employee, veteran of World War I,
and member of Masonic Lodge of Woodsfield and American Legion Woodsfield.
Mr. Neuhardt was preceded in death by his wife, Ameria Harper
Neuhardt in July 1979.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Olive Carpenter,
Smithfield, Mrs. Adrienne Winland, Lewisville, Route 1, one son James Neuhardt,
Dayton; six grandchildren.

week at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home here for Mrs. Florence Neuhart, 83, Quaker
City Rt. 1, who died May 8, 1982 at Woodsfield Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 13,* 1899, in Monroe
County, daughter of the late Phillip and Cora Goutbelout [sic--Gutberlet]
Christman. She was a retired school teacher
and a member of Seneca Valley Church of Christ.
She leaves her husband, Charles
Neuhart, whom she married Oct. 6, 1923; a son, Neil A. Neuhart of Quaker City
Route 1; two daughters, Mrs. John (Coralee) Garrett of Quaker City Route 1;
Mrs. James (Mary Lou) Waldie of Sparta, N.C.; two brothers, Ben Christman of
Quaker City Route 1 and Phillip Christman, Lewisville Route 1; eight
grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Three sisters are deceased.
Officiating at the service were Pastor
Martin Brown and Pastor Amos Orrison, with burial following in Batesville
Cemetery.

Elmer G. Nichols, 74, of Nine Mile, died Sunday morning at
St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
He was born in Nine Mile, a son of the late Meredith and
Rebecca Wiley Nichols. He was a
self-employed painter and a member of the Nine Mile United Methodist Church,
where he taught the men's class and was past assistant superintendent.
Surviving are his wife, Marnella Cronin Nichols; a son,
Staff. Sgt. Barry Nichols of South Korea; two daughters, Marlyn Linn of
Washington and Mrs. M. Ginger Postlewait of Marietta, O.; two brothers, Pearl
Nichols and Clarence Nichols, both of St. Marys; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, two brothers
and three sisters.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Nine Mile
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Maurice Miller officiating. Burial will
be in he Nine Mile Cemetery.

Harry E. Owens, Jr., 49, of Reno Star Route, principal of
Harmar School and Fairview Heights School, died in the emergency room at
Marietta Memorial Hospital at 7 p.m. Sunday.
An autopsy was planned to determine the exact cause of death.
He was born July 7, 1932 in Parkersburg to Mrs. Wanda Cale
Owens Owens* and Harry E. Owens. He was
a graduate of Parkersburg High School with the class of 1950 and received his
degree from Glenville State Teachers College in 1953. He received a master's degree from West Virginia University in
1966 and took additional courses at Ohio University. He served as principal of Stanleyville School for three years and
had been a teacher at Norwood School until 1966. He had been principal in Ridgewood Local School District near
Coshocton until 1966 and until 1969 when he returned to Marietta where he had
served as principal at Phillips School, Reno School, Marion School and North
Hills School before being appointed Harmar School principal five years
ago. He was a member of the
Williamstown United Methodist Church, Williamstown Lodge, A.F. & A.M,
Scottish Rite Society, Valley of Wheeling, and the Marietta Evening Lions Club.
On March 2, 1959,** he married Betty Lou Rollison*** who
survives with two daughters, Janet Sue Owens Buckley, Morgantown, W.Va. and
Mary Ellen of the home; one son, James Cameron of Belpre and one brother, William
Edwin of Vienna, W. Va. He was preceded
in death by an infant brother.
Services will be held at
3 p.m. Wednesday in the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with the Rev. Leo
Farley officiating. Burial will be in

Fern Stucker, 78, Waldron, died Thursday at 5:40 p.m. in
the Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville.
Mrs. Stucker was born Aug. 15, 1904, in Waldron, the
daughter of Marion and Carrie Pope. She
was first married to Raymond A. Thompson, and he preceded her in death in March
of 1924. She married Cortez A. Stucker
and he preceded her in death in 1958.
She was a lifetime resident of Waldron and a member of the Waldron
Baptist Church, the Waldon Rebekah Lodge, the Waldron Senior Citizens and the
Waldron Community Club.
She is survived by three sons: Russell B. Stucker, R.R. 1, Waldron, Larry W. Stucker, Terrance,
Calif., and Robert A. Stucker, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters: Mrs. John (Ella Mae) Kastor [sic Kaster]
and Mrs. Randall (Bonita) Klingensmith, Saint Clarisville [sic--Clairsville],
Ohio; one brother, Scott Pope, Waldron; 12 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by three brothers and three sisters.
The services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Glenn E.
George Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. Samuel Wright officiating and
with burial in the Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. till
time of the service on Sunday.

C. TUBAUGH, 84
Wilbur C. Tubaugh, 84, of Washington,
N. C., formerly of Woodsfield, Monroe Co. died at his home Friday, December 31,
1982.
He was born Jan. 5, 1899. He is the son of the late Henry and Lavivia*
Tubaugh of Woodsfield.
He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Mrs. Susanne Mowry. He is
survived by his wife, Bertie Tubaugh, a son Harry S. Tubaugh, three sisters,
Blanche Tubaugh, Estelle Boston, Esther Tubaugh of Woodsfield, and three
grandchildren. Funeral services and
burial were Monday at Memorial Park, Falls Church, Va.

J.W. Van Dyne, 59, died at 1 a.m.
Friday, September 10, 1982 in Marietta Hospital, Marietta following an illness
and cancer.
He was born March 16,1923, in
Barnesville, to Etta Friday Van Dyne of Barnesville and the late Harry Van
Dyne. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He had been a Unit Supervisor at the Ohio Power Company Muskingum
River Plant, Beverly, Ohio.
He was baptised in the Barnesville
Presbyterian Church, he was a member of Russell Chadwick Post 389, American
Legion at Beverly, and had been a unit committeeman for Waterford Boy Scout
Troup 222 for several years.
He was married March 22,
1944, to Betty Lee Anderson of Martins Ferry.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Daryl J.
Van Dyne of Waterford, and three sisters, Imogene Phillips and Geraldine Reed
of Barnesville, and Marcella Heskett of Los Altos, California.
Services were held Sunday, September
12, at the McCurdy Funeral Home at Beverly and the Rev. Thomas Knauff
officiated. Burial was in the Waterford
Cemetery with military honors. Friends

Vaughn, 64, Dies
Mrs. Audrey Vaughn, 64, a long-time
Fairfield resident, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Hospital.
Mrs.Vaughn had been admitted to the
hospital five days prior to her death, suffering from emphysema. She had been a resident of Way-Fair since
July and had been in ill health for six years.
Services Friday
Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. Friday from Nales' Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. Garold T. Hart
officiating. Burial will be in Koontz
Cemetery in Fairfield.
Visitation will be conducted from 5-8
p.m. Thursday (tonight) at the funeral home.
She was born in Mississippi County,
Ark., Feb. 8, 1918, the daughter of Edgar and Rosa (Clevenger) Buchanan. The Buchanans moved to Wayne County and
settled near the Skillet Fork River.
She was married to Elmer Vaughn in
Perryville, Mo., Nov. 6, 1942. He
preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1966.
Mrs. Vaughn was employed in domestic
service and worked for several years at Nales' Funeral Home before she became
ill.
She was a member of the Pentecostal
faith.
The Survivors
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs.
Joyce Vaughan, of Fairfield; one brother, Berkley Buchanan, of Nevada; one
sister, Mrs. Bernice Kimbro, of Ridgeway; and one granddaughter, Barbara
McCormick, of Evansville, Ind.

Donald G. West, 39, of 648 Gougler Rd., went to be with the
Lord Nov. 7.
He was born in Morristown, Ohio, and had lived in the Akron
area most of his life He was a military
veteran, serving in the United States Navy for four years. He attended the Cathedral of Tomorrow.
Mr. West is survived by sons, Jason and Marshall, both of
Akron; parents, Willis E. and Dorothy J. West of Akron; brother, Larry A. of
Naples, Fla.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar C. Glover of Bethesda, Ohio;
many aunts, uncles, loved ones and friends.

Wayne Hayes Towers, Martins Ferry, died Monday evening at Martins Ferry
Hospital. She was born March 13, 1894
in Bridgeport, a daughter of the late Robert B. and Ida Jane Lisk Stead.
She was a member of the First Baptist
Church, Martins Ferry, the Berean Sunday School Class, and the Wayne Hayes
Towers Club.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, J. Albert Wilson, in 1969 and a daughter, Eleanor, four brothers,
Larry, Claude, Robert, and Lon and a sister Bernice.
She is survived by five daughters,
Mrs. Lester (Alberta) Thornton of Floral City, Fla., Mrs. Charles (Betty)
Dowdell of Glendo, Wyo., Mrs. Bernice Speidel, Mrs. Audra McCardle and Mrs.
Paul (Deborah) Curnes, all of Martins Ferry; two sons, Charles A. Wilson of
Massillon and the Rev. James A. Wilson of Sussex, Va.; one brother, Kenneth
Stead of Louisville, Ky.; 32 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
Members of the family
will receive friends at the Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, at a time to be
announced. Final arrangements are
incomplete.

Winland. Surviving are a sister, Zelda
Betts of Lewisville; five brothers, Floyd and Willard Weber, both of Lewisville,

Lyman (Bud) Wood, 90, of 46 E. Athens Road, Roseville, died
at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in Bethesda Hospital where he had been a patient
for one week.
He was born Feb. 11, 1892, in Cottonwood Falls, Kan., a son
of Lyman and Maggie Frisbee Wood and was employed by Nelson-McCoy Pottery Co.
in Roseville until he retired in 1960.
Mr. Wood was a member of Franklin Avenue Church of Christ
in Roseville.
His first wife, Letha, died in 1950, and a son, Gerald,
died in 1977.
Surviving are his second wife, the former Cornelia Friday;
a son, Jay of Rainer Road in Roseville; a daughter, Mrs. James (Nelrose)
Pinnick of Reynoldsburg; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Roseville chapel of Cannon and Cannon Funeral
Home, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with William A. Barrell
officiating. Burial will be in
Roseville Cemetery.
