Abel, Bernice Abel, nee Joseph

Retired   USW   president's

wife,   Mrs.  I. W.   Abel, dies

        Mrs. I. W. Abel, the former Bernice Joseph of East Sparta, died Sunday in Sun City, Ariz., after a long illness.


        Her husband had been president of United Steelworkers of America and they moved to Sun City five years ago when he retired.  He was from nearby Magnolia and they were married June 27, 1930 in Wellsburg, W. Va. Methodist Church.  He became active in the labor movement after starting to work at the Timken Co. and by 1942 was elected director of seven-county District 27.  He was elected international secretary-treasurer in 1952 and was elected president in 1965.

        In addition to her husband, Mrs. Abel is survived by daughters Mrs. Ben (Karen) Jones of Maple Glen, Pa., and Mrs. Michael (Linda) Goldberg of Fairfax Station, Va., and five grandchildren.

        Services are pending at Lumberg funeral home in Sun City.

 

Ballou, Don Ballou

        Former Ashland and Sullivan area resident Don Ballou, 84, died Dec. 27 in Brooksville, Fla.

        He was a retired painter and was a native of Sullivan.

        Survivors include his wife, Ruby; one daughter, Phyllis Sufferon of Fairborn; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and one sister, Elma Ballou Stahl of North Canton.

        He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Kysor Ballou and one son, Merle.

        Memorial Masonic services will be held in Savannah at a later date.*

        Burial be in Savannah Cemetery.

        Mr. Ballou, 84, formerly of Ashland and Sullivan, died Dec. 27 in Brooksville, Fla.

 

Bates, George Dewey Bates

   George Dewey Bates, 83, of Route 3, Woodsfield, died Oct. 24 at his home. He was born Jan. 6, 1899 in Monroe County, a son of the late Abraham Lincoln and Sarah Jane Baker Bates.

   He was a retired oil field worker, a member of the Rich Fork Church of Christ.

   Mr. Bates is survived by three sons: George L. of Route 3, Woodsfield; Robert C. and William L., both of Ashland; two daughters; Jane Russell of Wheeling; Martha Highman of Ashland; fourteen grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

   He was preceded in death by four brothers; Frank, Clayton, Richard and Lawrence.

   Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield Tuesday where services were held Wednesday with Minister Harry Summers in charge. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

 

Bean, Ernest K. Bean

       FAIRLAWN -- Ernest K. Bean, 66, died after a one-year illness Dec. 23.

       He was born in Mason County, Ky., and had lived in Akron since 1983.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Akron and graduated from the Kentucky Wesleyan College cum laude with a B.A. in chemistry in 1937, the University of Kentucky with a master's degree in chemistry and the University of Akron School of Law in 1943.  He was a former trustee of the First United Methodist Church of Akron, and was a member of the American and Ohio Bar Associations.  He helped establish a licensing program worldwide in the field of polyvinyl chloride, and was responsible for developing a patent portfolio for PVC.  He was assistant general counsel working on B.F. Goodrich's environmental programs.  He was past president of the Cleveland Patent Law Association, and a member of Corporate Patent Counsel.   He started with the B.F. Goodrich Co. in 1953 as general patent counsel and became assistant general counsel in 1975.  He retired in1979 with 25 years service. 

        He is survived by wife, Robbie; sons, Rev. E. Randall Bean of Mendham, N.J., Gregory R. Bean of Stow, Eric J. Bean of New York City, N.Y.; daughters, Mrs. Shirley Pickle of Uniontown, Mrs. David W. Richey of Owensboro, Ky.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, William C. Bean of Maysville, Ky.; sister, Mrs. Anna B. Thomas of Maysville, Ky.

        Services Monday, 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 263 E. Mill St., with Rev. Douglas B. Denton officiating.  Interment Rose Hill Burial Park.  Friends may call at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Clinical Research at Akron General Medical Center Oncology Department.

 

Beck, Donald J. Beck

        Donald J. Beck, 52, of Hartsville, a rural mail carrier in the Hartsville, Westport, and Hope areas since 1963, died unexpectedly at 10:20 p.m. Saturday at Bartholomew County Hospital.

        Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dallas Collier and the Rev. Albert Harke at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Norman Funeral Home in Hope where persons may call from 4 to 9 o'clock tonight.  Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

        Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

        Beck was born in Hartsville May 31, 1929 to the late Theodric Beck and Mary Covert Beck White of Columbus.  He married Sandra Bishop June 24, 1962, and she also survives.

        Beck was a member of the Hartsville Christian Church, Hartsville Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the American Legion, and was a veteran of the Korean War.

        Surviving with the wife and mother are two daughters Shari and Debbie Beck, both at home; one sister, Colleen Gommel of Columbus; and three brothers, Morris Beck of Franklin, Byron Beck of Marion, and James Beck of Calhoun, Ga.

 

Blair, Robert Lee Blair

        There was much sadness among friends and relatives of Laclede County, when they received news of the death of Lee Blair of Charlotte, N.C. Sept 14.

        Robert Lee Blair was born April 21, 1907 to Luther W. and Arta Erwin Blair, at the farm home near Phillipsburg, and died at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte after he had lost the battle with cancer.

        Lee attended school in Laclede County.  He was married to Roberta Bramhall Aug. 1, 1925 in Lebanon.  They lived in Tulsa, Okla., where Lee was employed for 30 years with the Kerr Glass Corp. as diversified sales manager, moving after his retirement in 1966 to Charlotte.

        He was a member of the Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church.

        Services were held in the Harry and Bryant Chapel with his minister, the Rev. Neil McMilian and the Rev. David Trammel, minister of Sharon Forest Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial was in Sharon Memorial Park.

        Lee is survived by his wife, Roberta; a son, Robert Lee "Jack" Blair of Charlotte; a daughter, Mrs. Charles V. "Sue" Shelf of Marshville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Russell of Springfield, J. Wallace of Phoenix, Ariz., and P. Wayne of Wilmington, N.C.; and many friends.

        Lee was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Louise; a sister, Mary Lucille, and his parents.

        Francis F. Borns, 72, of Iron River, Mich. and 310 N. Main St., Wdsf, Ohio, died Aug. 4, 1982 at his home in Wdsf.  He was born Sept. 10, 1909 in Florence, Wisconsin, son of the late Fred A. and Iris Berra Borns.  He was a retired employee of the Chicago North Western Railroad.  Mr. Borns was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River and a Veteran of World War II.  A member of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Railway employees.  Surviving are his wife Sarah Matz Borns, an aunt, Mrs. Irene Borns Hoar and an uncle, Marvin Borns of Iron River.  Several Cousins and many friends.  Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, with Deacon Ronald Griffith of St. Sylvesters Catholic Church officiating, assisted by M. Katherine Lunau of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.  Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.  Pallbearers were Ralph E. Matz, James F. Matz, Michael Matz, Lewis Wayne Matz, Glenn Ludwig and Thomas Hanley.

 

      Bunting, Francis E. Bunting

       Services were held Wednesday at one o’clock from Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home for Frances E. Bunting, 51, who died June 7, 1982 in Martins Ferry. Evangelist

    James Gallagher conducted the services, and burial was made in Crestview Cemetery.

       Born April 8, 1931, in Barnesville, he was the son of Thomas and Esther Wright Bunting. He was a Protestant.

   He is survived by a brother, James Bunting of Barnesville and a sister, Mrs. Joan Gore of Cleveland.

 

Carpenter, Charles J. Carpenter

BARNESVILLE---Charles J. Carpenter, 42, of S. Chestnut St., Barnesville, died Thursday at University Hospital, Columbus.

     He was born June 1, 1940, at Beallsville, son of Edna McDougal and the late Charlie Carpenter.  He was a brick mason with Consolidated Aluminum in Hannibal and a member and deacon of First Christian Church, Barnesville.  He belonged to Masonic Lodge 68 FA&AM,  Masonic Lodge R&AM and Council 97 R&AM, all of Barnesville, Cambridge Commandry and Knights Templar.  He was also a member of United Steelworkers of America.

     In addition to his mother of Beallsville;  he leaves his wife, Peggy Dyer Carpenter;  two sons, Ty Carpenter and Adam Carpenter of the home;  a daughter, Mrs. Russell (Dawn) Barker of Barnesville;  two brothers, Glen of Beallsville and Robert of Rittman;  six sisters, Mrs. Winnie Acher of Wadsworth,  Mrs. Mary Lucas of Rock Springs, Wyo.,  Mrs. Ruth Grossenbacher of Seville,  Mrs. Erma Agin of Bucyrus and Mrs. Betty King and Mrs. Doris Bourne, both of Orville.

     Friends may call at Campbell-Plumby Funeral Home, Barnesville on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. where services will be Sunday at 1:30 P.M. with Rev. William Worcester officiating.  Burial will be Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville. 

 

Carpenter, Hallie Carpenter

        Miss Hallie Carpenter, 85, formerly of Noble County, died at 10:45 P.M. Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1982) at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 4, 1897, in Monroe County, the daughter of the late James and Mary Carpenter. She was a member of the Church of Christ at West Lafayette.

         Miss Carpenter leaves four nieces, Mrs. Edith Bates of West Lafayette, Mrs. Nancy Moore of Coshocton, Miss Phyllis Leach and Mrs. Betty Casey, both of Mt. Ephraim; and one nephew, Clinton Leach of West Lafayette. Twelve brothers and sisters are deceased.

         Graveside services will be Friday at 1:30 P.M. at Calais Cemetery with Evangelist Mike David officiating. Bundy-Law Funeral home has charge of arrangements.

 

Carpenter, Harold Carpenter

        WOODSFIELD---Services for Harold Carpenter, 85, of Lewisville were at 1 P.M. today at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Burial was in Calais Cemetery.

         Mr. Carpenter died Friday afternoon (April 2, 1982) at Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Beverly. He was a retired farmer and merchant.

         Preceding him in death were his first wife, Viola Stephens Carpenter, in 1956 and his second wife, Stella Carpenter, in 1980.

         He leaves four sisters, Mrs. Sally Miller, of Quaker City, Mrs. Lillian Newhart of Old Washington, Mrs. Thelma Kane of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Edrie Margutie of Midway City, Calif.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

        Dale E. Cathers, 76, of 2003 California, died unexpectedly at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday at Major Hospital at Shelbyville.

        Before his retirement he worked many years as a self-employed trucker and stock trader.

        Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dallas Collier at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Norman  Funeral Home at Hope, where persons may call from 4 until 9 p.m. Friday and until time of service Saturday.  Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.

        Cathers was born in Bartholomew County Sept. 20, 1905, the son of William T. and Lillie Emmert Cathers.  He married Gladys Campbell Dec. 22, 1943, and she survives.

        A veteran of World War II, Cathers was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and the Adult Bible class there.

        Memorials may be made through Norman Funeral Home to Memorial Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.

 

Christman, Lloyd W. Christman

        Lloyd W. Christman, 82, of Cucamonga, died April 8 at Onatrio Nursing Home.  A retired owner and operator of Christman Body in Ontario for 30 years, 1923 to 1953, he was a native of Greeley, Colo.,and an Ontario resident 63 years.  Veteran of the Army in World War  I.  Member of Euclid Avenue Camera Club, Cucamonga First United Methodist Church.  He is survived by two sons, Rolland of Ontario and Gene M. Christman of Berkeley; and three grandchildren.  Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Richardson-Peterson Chapel.  Entombment, Bellevue Mausoleum.  Friends may call today noon - 6 p.m. at the Richardson-Peterson Mortuary.

(Nancy) Fraser, Delmar, Mrs. William (Diane) Bartlett, Denver, Col., Christian Mathiesen, Saratoga, and the late Jack Mathiesen; he is also survived by two aunts and many nieces and nephews.

        Funeral Service Wednesday morning, 11 o'clock, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Albany.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Albany Boys Club.

        Woodrow W. "Woody" Craig, 69, a native of Shelbyville, died Thursday evening at his home in Riviera Beach, Florida.

        Survivors include his wife, Ruby; three daughters, Bonnie Coleman, Greenfield, and Shirley Tucker and Sandy Smith, both of Shelbyville; one sister, Mabel Hamlyn, Acton; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

  Services will be held in Florida.

 

Craven, Mark S. Craven

        WELLSVILLE - Services for Mark S. Craven, 24, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from the MacLean Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Iddings, pastor of the Central United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

        Mr. Craven, formerly of 1629 Clark Ave., a U.S. Army private at Fort Stewart, Ga., was fatally injured in a jeep accident Saturday morning near the base.  He died at St. Joseph Hospital about 3 p.m.

        He was born June 14, 1958, in East Liverpool to Kenneth and Judith Trembaly Craven of 1629 Clark Ave.

        In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Tammy Powers Craven of Wellsville; one daughter, Nicole Craven, at the home; a brother, William D. Craven of Wellsville; a sister, Lisa Craven of Wellsville; and a grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Trembaly of East Liverpool.

        Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Carl E. Deibel, age 84, Monday at St. Luke Convalescent Center.  Retired tool and die maker.  He was employed at General Motors Ternstedt Division.  Member of U.A.W. DeLong, Ernest M. DeLong

        Ernest M. DeLong, 64, of 210 Chestnut St. was pronounced dead on arrival at Marietta Memorial Hospital at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday.

        He was born May 20, 1917, in Stark County* to Thomas and Annabelle Brownfield Delong.  He was a retired letter carrier for the Marietta Post Office and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.  He was a member of the Church of Christ at Sixth and Washington streets where he had taught Bible classes and led singing for a number of years.

        On Oct. 16, 1944, he married the former Kathryn Wise, who survives along with several nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Wilbert and George.

        Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hadley Funeral Home in Marietta with Donald Craighead and Jess Nutter officiating.  Burial will be in Valley Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home today.

Drew, Raymond C. Drew

        Raymond C. Drew, 75, 437 Colescott St., died at 6 p.m.  Wednesday at W.S. Major Hospital where he had been admitted earlier that day.  He had been in failing health since December, 1981.

        Mr. Drew retired in 1972 from Great States Corp., where he had been an inspector.  He was a veteran of the Army Medical Corps, serving in World War II, and was a member of the American Legion Post here.

        Born Dec. 13, 1906 in Richmond, Mr. Drew was a son of John and Anna (Grant) Drew.  On June 4, 1938, in Shelbyville, he married Wilma Lee who survives.

        Also surviving are two sons, John Drew, Shelbyville, and Wendell Drew, Omaha, Neb.; three brothers and one sister, George and Mark Drew, Indianapolis, and Delbert Drew and Mrs. Alice Zurwell, both of Richmond; three granddaughters; and one step-grandson.

        One son, Emerson Drew, two sisters and two half-sisters preceded in death.

        Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Murphy Mortuary with the Rev. William Ernst officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery.  The local American Legion post will conduct military graveside rites.  Friends may call at the mortuary from  4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday.

 

Drummond, Robert Drummond

        Robert Drummond, 61, of 4 Spring St., Bridgeport, died Tuesday in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.  He was born Dec. 12, 1920 in Bridgeport, a son of the late Carl and Nellie Chippe Drummond.

        He was co-owner and operator of the Keyboard Galleries, Wheeling and Music City, Steubenville.

        He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Follansbee, W. Va., Wheeling Elks Lodge No. 28, Wheeling Kiwanis, Wheeling Musicians Union No. 1046, and was a veteran of World War II.  He was also director of the membership drive for the YMCA, Wheeling.

        Surviving are his wife, Mary K. Hatch Drummond, and a son, Robert Carl of Bridgeport.

        Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home, Bridgeport, 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Paul Van Dyke officiating.  Burial in Linwood Cemetery, Blaine.

 

Eckhardt, Elwood George Eckhardt

        ECKHARDT, Elwood George, 87, of Lynwood Avenue, Wheeling, died Thursday in the Mount View Health Care Center, Moundsville.  He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Wheeling, and a retired employee of Wheeling Machine Products.  Surviving are his wife, Hilda Ann Nalley Eckhardt; a daughter, Mrs. Edmund (Mary) Amrhein of Mt. Olivet; two granddaughters, Barbara Sloan of St. Clairsville and Mrs. Donald (Lynn) Blazina of Steamwood, Ill,; a great-granddaughter, Michelle Blazina of Steamwood.  Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 1400 Eoff St., Wheeling, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 and 7-9 Sunday.  Final arrangements are incomplete.*

       Emery, Margery Emery, nee Dennis

         BARBERTON -- Margery Emery, 61, of 247  6th St. N.W., went home to be with the Lord Sept. 14 after a long illness.

        A resident of Barberton 22 years, she was a member of the Reformed Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints of Barberton, and had been known by CB'ers as    Rhubarb.

        Mrs. Emery is survived by husband, Carl; daughters, Sharon Minard of Canal Fulton, Carla Sharier of Independence, Mo., Dawn Boord of Barberton; grandchildren, Sheila Sharier, Kimberly, Michael, and Aaron Minard, Nicole Boord; sister, Genova Derth [sic--Dearth] of Weirton, W. Va.; and brother, Bill Morris of Akron.

 Funeral services Friday, 1 p.m., at the Campfield-Hickman Funeral Home, Rev. Douglas Smith and High Priest James Cook officiating.  Burial Greenlawn Cemetery.

Engle, Bradley T. Engle

        BRADENTON, Fla. -- Bradley Thomas Engle, 29, formerly of Marietta, Ohio, died Aug. 30 at his home.  Cause of death was not reported.

        He was born March 18, 1953, at Marietta to Charles and Martha Engle of Vero Beach.  He was a graduate of Marietta High School and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Marietta.

        He moved to Bradenton several eyars ago and was employed by the Tropitone Furniture Co.

        In addition to his parents, he is survived by two children, Leon and Jennifer Engle of Bradenton, four brothers, Philip and Jeffrey of Marietta, Mike of Houston, Tex. and Chuck of Orlando, a sister, Sue Ellen of Columbus, Ohio and his paternal grandmother, Amelia Engle of Lowell, Ohio.

        Arrangements were being made by the Strunk Funeral Home at Vero Beach.  The family requests no flowers be sent.

        She was born May 23, 1923, at Barnesville, daughter of the late Jesse and Eleanor Denny Windom.  She was a member of Quaker City United Methodist Church.

        She leaves her husband, Robert Eschbaugh, whom she married Sept. 27,1949;* a daughter, Mrs. Jerald (Janice) Denius of Salesville; two brothers, Robert E. Windom of Melbourne, Fla., and William Windom of Cleveland; two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Betty) Shedlock of New Port Richey, Fla., and Mrs. Edward (Eleanor) Burcher of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

        Friends may call at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Miller and the Rev. Charles Clark officiating.  Burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Fagel, Fred B. Fagel

          Fred B. Fagel,  83, 720 Second St., a retired truck driver, died at 4:30 a.m. today at the Heritage Manor.  Mr. Fagel had been in poor health for seven years and in the manor for seven months.  He retired in 1963 after working many years as a truck driver for the old Root Transit Co.

          He was born September 24, 1898 in Shelby County, the son of  John and  Nancy Fagel.  He married  Ellen Pope  who died in 1948.  They had a son who died in infancy.

          On August 30, 1958, Mr. Fagel married  Olive Stroup  who survives at home.  Also surviving are two sisters,  Mary Griffith  and  Goldie Cotton  of Shelbyville, and three nieces.  A sister preceded in death.

          He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, the Shelbyville Eagles Lodge, Teamsters Local 135 and the Shelby County Senior Citizens organization.

          The Rev. Ron Riggs will conduct a funeral service for Mr. Fagel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Carmony Funeral home here.  Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

        Born March 7, 1935, in Greene County, he was the son of Charlie and Georgia (Mullis) Frye.  He was a veteran of the Korean War.

        Survivors include a daughter, Jana Moore of Linton; a son, Tony Frye of Linton; a sister, Barbara McGlothlin of Bloomfield; a brother, David Frye of South Bend; and a grandson.

        He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

        Services are to be held Friday for Howard "Louie" Gill, 56, of Church St., who died Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland following a long illness.

        A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Gill was born in New Matamoras, a son of Isaac E. Gill and Leota Morris Gill.

        He was a mechanic for the M. & J. Trucking Co. of Chester, and attended the Assembly of God Church.

        His wife, Lucy Gill, died June 11, 1980.

        Survivors include two sons, Lawrence E. Gill at home and Russell H. Gill of East Liverpool; a daughter, Donna Gill at home; four brothers, Willard Gill and Edward Gill, both of Sebring; Norvil Gill of North Benton and Gale Gill of East Liverpool; two sisters, Mrs. James (Hattie) Debolt of Sebring and Mrs. Ronald (Rebecca) Blake of Homeworth, and a grandchild.

        The rites are to be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by Pastor Terry Brown.

        Burial is to be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in Newell, W. Va.

        Cora Mae Goddard, 90, of Newport Rt. 1 died Friday morning in the Washington County Home.

        She was born Jan. 3, 1892, in Independence Township to John and Fannie Rogers Herlan and was a lifelong resident of Washington County.  She was a member of Pine Ridge United Methodist Church.

        She was married to Benjamin Goddard, who preceded her in death, along with one brother, John Herlan; and one sister, Bertha Bowersock.

        Survivors are one son, Merle Goddard of the Washington County Home; two half-brothers, Joseph Herlan of Newport Rt. 1 and Clyde Herlan of Allen, Mich.; a half-sister, Carrie Binegar of Newport Rt. 1; and several nieces and nephews.

        Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Washington County Home with burial in Newport Cemetery.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home until 3 p.m. Sunday.

        BELOIT--Mrs. H. Eileen Goodballet, 65, of 31 Cedarwood Drive, died at 9:40 a.m. Sunday in Alliance City Hospital after a long illness.

        Mrs. Goodballet was born June 10, 1917, in Sebring, a daughter of Samuel Sr. and Garnet Laughlin Hutmacher.  She was a retired head cook in the Sebring School System, a past secretary-treasurer of the Sebring Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a past matron of the Alma Chapter 498 Order of the Eastern Star.

        Mrs. Goodballet was also a member of Sebring Church of Christ and the Sebring VFW Ladies Auxiliary and.*  Her husband, George S. died in 1981.

        Besides her father of Sebring, she leaves a son, George S. Jr. of Boardman; three daughters, Mrs. Garnet Yaggi of Sebring, Mrs. Joyce Cameron of Homeworth and Mrs. Janet Herrmann of Stoneboro, Pa.; three brothers, Lloyd Hutmacher and Dean Hutmacher, both of Sebring, and Samuel Hutmacher of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Kathleen Ashley and Mrs. Vera Fording, both of Alliance; and seven grandchildren.

        Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Gednetz Funeral Home, Sebring, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

        LISBON--Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Seederly-Mong Funeral Home for Mrs. Helen H. Goodballet, 80, of 320 E. Chestnut St., a former schoolteacher, who died of a stroke at 11:22 a.m. Friday in Northern Columbiana County Hospital, Salem.  She had been ill one year.

        Mrs. Goodballet was born Oct. 20, 1901, in Lisbon, a daughter of Clarence and Georgianna Hammond Trunick.  She had taught her first year at Negley and the last 38 years in Lisbon schools.

        She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lisbon, where she had taught Sunday school classes, and the church's Naomi-Ruth Circle.

        Mrs. Goodballet also belonged to Ivy Chapter 113, Order of the Eastern Star, the Columbiana County, state and national teachers associations, and the American Association of Retired Persons.

        Her husband, Edwin, whom she married Oct. 10, 1941, died Feb. 3, 1969.

       Private services for Virginia M. Goodballet, 67, Camarillo, were held Monday at Griffin Brothers Funeral Chapel, Camarillo.  Cremation and burial at sea followed.

        Mrs. Goodballet died Friday in a Camarillo hospital after a long illness.  She was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Chester W.Va., and was an eight-year county resident, coming from Trenton, N.J.  She was a homemaker.

        She is survived by her husband John; son John Jr. of Riverside; daughters Karen Libman and Margaret Mack, both of Thousand Oaks, and Janet L. Oliver of Trenton, N.J.; brothers John Longstreth of Phoenix, Ariz, and George Longstreth of Akron, Ohio; sisters Olive Hughes of Matrona, Pa., and Jeanette Stammers of Detroit, Mich.; and seven grandchildren.

        The family requests memorial donations be made to the Pleasant Valley Hospital, Camarillo.

Clara     Goodwin     Dies     At     Center

        Mrs. Clara Goodwin, 89, died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 1982 at the Stark County Health Center.

        She was born November 24, 1892 in Toulon the daughter of Christy and LaVina Kinkade Sorenson  She married W. O. Goodwin, July 5, 1913 in Rock Island.

        She lived all her life in Toulon with the exception of five years in Queenswood Nursing Home, Morton.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

        Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Katherine) Patterson of Toulon and Mrs. Helen Montgomery of Chicago, one son, Robert of Morton, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one brother, several half brothers and half sisters.

        Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Toulon Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Brackett officiating.

        Visitation was held from noon until 1:45 p.m. at the Kidd Funeral Home.

        Memorials are to be made to the Stark County Health Center.

 

Grandbouche, Clayton R. Grandbouche

        Clayton R. Grandbouche, age 65, Route 46 South, died at 3 a.m. Thursday, March 25 at his home from a hart [sic] attack.

        He was born July 7, 1916 in Plymouth Township.  A lifetime resident of the area, he was a farmer and boilermaker employed for nine years at Jefferson Elementary School.

        He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lena; a brother and his first wife, Florence Shepard.

        He was an honorary volunteer fireman in Austinburg after serving the department for 20 yars. [sic]  He was a member of VFW posts in both Austinburg and Rock Creek.  During World War II, he was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in Africa.  He was a former member of the Rock Creek Conservation Club.

        He is survived by his wife, Velda; sons Kenneth Lee, of Utah; Roy of North Carolina, Glen, living in Germany, and daughters* Mrs. Richard (Vivian) Park, Rochester, N.Y.; one brother, Wade of Colorado; a sister, Mrs. Henry (Betty) Evergreen of Ashtabula and 11 grandchildren.

        Funeral services were held today at 1 p.m. at the Lehnert Funeral Home.  The Rev. William F. Hamel, of Austinburg First Church of Christ, officiated.  Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.  Graveside services were performed by the VFW.

        He was born June 25, 1905 in Monroe County, son of the late Lewis & Lydia Ann Brown Gray.  He was retired and a member of the Methodist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Mildred Moose Gray of Woodsfield, 3 daughters, Martha Lee Hines of Graysville, Betty Sanders and Virginia Roehms both of Erie, Pa., a son, Eldridge Gray of Woodsfield, a sister, Neva Donaldson of Carrollton, Ohio, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.

        Born in Nashville on November 7, 1934 to Thirsten and Sarah Spicer Harden, he married Kaye Martin on July 18, 1960 and she survives.

        Harden was an Army veteran and former employee of Brown County Stone Company.

        He is survived by three children, Randy Harden of Abilene, Texas, Thomas Harden of Nashville and Brenda Harden, at home; his mother, Sarah Harden of Nashville; six brothers, Thirsten Harden, Jr., of Jackson, Mississippi, Charles and Marshall Harden, both of Bloomington, Richard and Bruce Harden, both of Nashville and Dale Harden of Ellettsville; five sisters, Christina Reynolds of Jackson, Mississippi, Mary Alice Elliott, Lorretta Reynolds and Moran Altop, all of Bloomington and Almeda Harris of Nashville.

        Bernice E. Headley, 71, of E. Jackson St., Paden City, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1982 in Sistersville General Hospital.  She was born July 14, 1910, in Tyler County, daughter of the late Steve and Ollie Mercer Snider.

        She was a retired school crossing guard, a member of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 86.  She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Paden City.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Headley, in 1962.

        Surviving are two sons, Carl Headley and Harvey Headley, both of Paden City; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Bevlin of Paden City; four grandchildren; a great-grandson.

        Friends were received at Mowery Trowbridge Funeral Home, Paden City.  Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Paden City, with the Rev.         Clyde T. Henninger, 70, Indianapolis, a retired Indianapolis policeman, died Thursday in a local nursing home.

        He retired in 1965 as a police lieutenant and head of the property room after 20 years of service.

        He was a purchasing agent and chief inspector for the director of printing, State of Indiana, from 1965 to1974.

        He was a member of the Indianapolis Police Department Retired Officers Club, the Indianapolis Police Protective Association and Retired (Navy) Officers Association of Indiana.  He was a World War II Navy veteran.

        He also belonged to Ancient Landmarks Lodge No. 319, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, American Legion Post No. 56 and the Pike Township Republican Club.

        Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday.

        Survivors include his wife, Elsie J. Henninger, daughter, Sandra J. Staggs, son, David A. Henninger, and his mother, Alice Henninger.

Delbert C. Hensel Vienna West Virginia- Delbert C. Hensel, 74 of 306 30th St. died Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 8, 1982) in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital at Parkersburg. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and was retired from the Johns-Manville Corp.

Survivors include his wife Mildred Hensel, two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Cline of New Matamoras Ohio, and Mrs. Goldie Graham of Wooster Ohio; two brothers, Harold and Henry, both of New Matamoras, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

        She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Bob (Mildred) Grubb of Flora; three sons, Harold of Flora, Louis of Plano and Dennis of Hinkley; three sisters, Miss Ruby Courtright of Fairfield, Mrs. Norma Straub of Geff and Mrs. Eldon (Marjorie) Sanders of Fairfield; one brother, Vern Courtright of Geff; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a niece, Mrs. Betty Cook of Costa Mesa, Calif.

        She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy, and her parents.

        A member of St. John's Catholic church, Miltonsburg, he was a retired school bus driver.

        Preceding him in death were 14 brothers and sisters.

Huntsman, James Loman Huntsman 

James Loman Huntsman, 67, of Mason Road, Barnesville, died Oct. 12 at the Barnesville hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1915, at Jerusalem. a son of the late Allen and Jane Davis Huntsman. He was a retired butcher and a Protestant by faith.

Surviving are his wife, Hilda Mae Mellott Huntsman; 12 sons, Michael, Ricky, Rodney, William and Clifton, all of the home; David of Bethesda; Donald of Quaker City; James of Wellsville; Carl of Alliance; Robert of Barnesville; Ronnie and Johnny; five daughters, Sue Edwards of Barnesville, Beverly Lilly of East Liverpool, Jenny Blakley of Alledonia, Delores Applegarth of Carrollton, and Diana Huntsman; 21 grandchildren and six great - grandchildren; two brothers, Lester of Barnesville and Earl of Toronto; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Johnson and Mrs. Goldie Swallie, both of Barnesville Route, Pearl Burkhart of Belmont, and Mrs. Clarence Morris of Ashland.

        Bertha Ann Jackson, 86, of Meadow Road, died at 11:15 A.M. Friday (Dec. 24, 1982) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital.

        She was born March 17, 1896, in Batesville, daughter of Richard E. and Mary Ann Brownfield Carpenter.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Jackson, in June 1962.  She was a member of 10th Street Church of Christ.

        She leaves five sons, Charles and Richard, both of Ashland,  Clarence of Greenwich,  Lawrence of Cambridge and Walter of Port Washington;  five daughters, Genevieve Watson of Ashland, Geneva Miller of Canton,  Rosetta McFerran of Circleville, Olive Straquadine of Columbus and Dorcas Campbell of Byesville;  a brother Elvy Carpenter Duncan Falls,  Ellen Carpenter and Elizabeth Dollison of Quaker City;  30 grandchildren;  several great-grandchildren.  Three brothers and one sister are deceased.

        Mrs. Goldie Jacobs, 85, a life resident of 717 N. Franklin, died at 3:50 a.m. today (April 19, 1982) at the Inter-National Nursing Home.  She had been in failing health 15 months.

        Mrs. Jacobs had operated the Coffee Cup located on South Vermilion for many years.

        Born Jan. 9, 1997, in Catlin, Ill., she was a daughter of Daniel and Lucretia Neal.  She married Albert Jacobs April 11, 1924, in Covington, Ind.  He preceded her in death Jan. 11, 1973.

        She is survived by two sons, James Jacobs of Danville and George Roth of Milwaukee; a brother, James Neal of Florida; and a sister, Edith Sanders of Kingman, Ind.

        She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Wilson.

        Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Lakeside Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Stearns Cemetery at Fithian, Ill.

        Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

 

Kallenbach, Flora E. Kallenbach, nee Greiwe

        Flora E. Kallenbach, 91, Versailles, died at 2:27 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 1982 at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville.  She was a housewife.

        Born in Pike County December 9, 1890, she was the daughter of William and Lucitta Keylor Griewe.*  She attended Pike County schools and the Zion Lutheran Church.

        On February 23, 1921 she married John Kallenbach in Pike County.  He preceded her in death in 1969.

        Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Herschel (Dorothy) Frost, Versailles; three sons, Wilbur of Perry, Virgil of Mt Sterling, and Donald of Versailles; two sisters, Mrs. Iva Liehr and Mrs. Francis (Nina) Morath, both of Versailles; nine grandchildren and eight gret-grandchildren.

        Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and a grandson Terry.

        Services were held Tuesday, June 22, 1982 at 1 p.m. at the Hufnagel Funeral Home with the Rev Donald Duncan officiating.  Mrs. Wilma Behymer was organist and Lozelle Burnett sang "The Old Rugged Cross: and "Sweet Bye and Bye."

        Casketbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons John Kallenbach, David Kwiecinski, Paul Kallenbach, John Frost, Wayne Phillips and Ed Phillips.

        Burial was in the Hebron Cemetery.  Hufnagel Funeral Home was in charge of services.

        Mr. Kruger was a counselor for alcoholics and a member of Fordland Free Will Baptist Church.

Lantz, Lawrence R. Lantz

        Lawrence R. Lantz Sr., 67, of Evans died Friday, July 2, at North Colorado Medical Center.

        He was born May 23, 1915, at Sylvan Grove, Kan., to Miles H. and Albina (Volok) Lantz.

        On. Jan. 6, 1946, he was married to Virginia B. Briggs at Greeley.

        Lantz was an auto upholsterer for Weld County Garage.  He came to Greeley in 1938.  He entered the U.S. Army Nov. 1, 1941, and was discharged Oct. 30,1945, serving during World War II in Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland and Ardennes.  After being discharged, he returned to Colorado and worked for the Widmar Garage in Ault until going to work for the Weld County garage where he was employed until his retirement in 1981.

        He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Greeley; a son, Larry R. Lantz Jr. of Greeley; four sisters, Vera Reed of LaJunta, Ruth Schuler of Gaylord, Mich., Dorothy Patrick of Utah and Della Deatherage of Salina, Kan.; five brothers, Harrison of Evans, Calvin of Hutchinson, Kan., Cecil of Hays, Kan., Earl and Frank, both of Salina, Kan., and four grandchildren.  A sister is deceased.

        Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Adamson Memorial Chapel.  The Rev. Don R. Lane will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

D. 1,  Mrs. Danny (Robin) Stephens of Caldwell R. D. 1;  three sons, Gary of Summerfield;  Greg of Barnesville and Calvin of Fort Carson, Colo.;  10 grandchildren;  two sisters, Gerturde Brown of Woodsfield R. D. 3, and Almeta Morris of Woodsfield R. D. 3;  and two brothers, Gervis Hayes of Quaker City R. D. 4 and Kenneth Hayes of Quaker City.  One son is deceased.

        Ruth McClure, 84, Eaton Rapids, Mich., died at 9:30 p.m. May 13 in Community Hospital, Battle Creek, Mich.

        Mrs. McClure was born Feb. 11, 1898, in Celina.  Parents were Daniel and Emma (Horning) Conley.  She attended Molasses Gap School near Charloe and taught school in Paulding County.  In 1919, she married Tom McClure who died in 1973.

        Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Squirer* of Eaton Rapids and Beatrice McDaid, Rochester, N.Y.; a son, Lester McClure, Olivet, Mich.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marguerite Bashore of Bolt, Mich., and Marie Jackson, Lansing, Mich.

        Services were Monday in Skinner Funeral Chapel, Eaton Rapids.  Graveside services were conducted Monday in Middle Creek Cemetery near Grover Hill by the Rev. Terry Bovinet.  Didrick-Taylor Funeral Home, Grover Hill, was in charge of local arrangements.

        Francis "Skeet" McGrew, 68, Geneva, died at 1 p.m. Friday at W.S. Major Hospital.  He had been in failing health several years.

        Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home, Hope, with the Revs. Douglas Finney and Dallas Collier officiating.  Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday.

        McGrew was a retired farmer and a former employee of the Shelby County Highway Department.  He was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church.

        Born Nov. 8, 1913, in Jennings County, Mr. McGrew was a son of Lee and Nancy (Price) McGrew.  In 1934 he married Margaret Burnes, who survives.

        Also surviving are four children, Charles McGrew, Versailles, Mrs. R. D. (Carol Sue) Cepeda, San Antonio, Texas, T. Sgt. David McGrew, Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Joan Arthur, Shelbyville; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

        Seven brothers and sisters also survive.  They are:  Edward McGrew, Mary McMichael and Evelyn Baxter, all of Shelbyville; John McGrew, New Hampshire; Sue Shirley and Doris Winterrowd, both of Indianapolis; and Louise Mullen, Fairland.

 

McPeek, Hugh McPeek

        JASPER, Ala. -- Hugh McPeek, 61, of Jasper, Ala., died Friday (Nov. 5, 1982) in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., following a lengthy illness.

        Mr. McPeek was born Feb. 28, 1921,* at Batesville, son of Shirley McPeek of Batesville and the late Franklin McPeek.

        Mr. McPeek lived in the Batesville and Quaker City areas while in Ohio.  He was retired.

        In addition to his mother, he leaves his wife, Dean.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Heber McPeek and Guy Betts.

        The funeral will be Sunday afternoon at Collins Funeral Home, Jasper.

        He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, retired employee in the electric department of the blooming mill at Weirton Steel Division, an Army veteran of World War II serving in the European and Pacific theaters of war, and a member of the Hookstown American Legion, Weirton Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cove Valley IOOF, Richard Vaux Lodge AF and AM of Burgettstown, and the Osiris Temple of Wheeling.

        Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Lendon Beatty Miller; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joyce A.) Wallace of Weirton; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Brewer of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Harry (Thelma) Brown of Canton, Ohio, and Mrs. Linnie Fulton of Weirton; and two grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Georjeane Carpenter; one brother, Wilfred Miller; and one halfbrother, Harold G. Ullom.

        Friends will be received at the Steel and Wolfe Funeral Home, Penco Road, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Thomas W. Clark officiating.  Interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Moore, Dolores Moore, nee Goodballet

        Services are to be held Tuesday for Mrs. Dolores Moore, 79, of St. George St., who died Friday evening at home from an apparent heart attack.

        A lifelong area resident, she was born here Dec. 23, 1902, a daughter of Conrad Goodballet and Alice Reed Goodballet.

        She was graduated in 1925 from the East Liverpool City Hospital School of Nursing, and was a nurse at City Hospital and the former Osteopathic Hospital.

        Mrs. Moore was a member of the Grace United Presbyterian Church, its Women's Association, the Four Square Sunday School Class and the Martha Circle.

        She served as chairman of the City Hospital Floral Committee.

        Her husband, Charles H. Moore, died Dec. 11, 1971.

        Survivors include a son, Charles D. Moore of North Royalton, and four grandsons.

        The rites are to be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. Russell Duncan at the Dawson Funeral Home.

        Burial is to be in Riverview Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and tonight and Tuesday until time of service.

        The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Grace United Presbyterian Church in her memory.

        William D. (Dinty) Moore, 61, of Wolf Run Road, Caldwell, died Tuesday, July 27, at Good Samaritan Medical Center.

        He was born June 19, 1921, in Noble County a son of Olive Stottsbery Moore and the late Harry M. Moore.

        He was a retired civil engineer and surveyor for the state of Ohio having worked 36 years for the state.

         A veteran of WW II, he was a member of the Caldwell VFW, the Caldwell United Methodist Church and the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers.

        In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Gloria Rocco Moore of the home; a son, Donald W. Moore of Cambridge; a brother, Jim Moore of Dayton; a sister, Mrs. Vera Thornberry of Miami, Fla. and four grandchildren.

        Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McVay Funeral Home in Caldwell where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Roy Walther and Monsignor Lawrence Luciana officiating.

        Mrs. Gladys F. Morris, 81, of Macrum St. died Monday at 5:55 p.m. at Hooper's Boarding Home for the Elderly in Wellsville, following a long illness.

        A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Morris was born here Feb. 2, 1901, a daughter of Charles Friend Woolley* and Florence Welch Wooley.*

        Her husband, John F. Morris Sr., died June 18, 1972.

        Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Betty) Reight and Mrs. Donna M. Todd, both of East Liverpool,and Miss Ruth E. Morris at home; three sons, John F. Morris, Robert Morris and Glenn N. Morris, all of East Liverpool; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

        Services are to be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home by the Rev. Dr. H. Gene Toot of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church.

        Burial is to be in Riverview Cemetery.

        Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon and night.

        Phillip T. Morris, 96, of 1006 Gaston Ave., died at 7:45 a.m. today (April 10, 1982) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

        He was born in Monroe County on May 22,* 1885, son of the late Charles T. and Barbara Christman Morris.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Beryl Williams, in 1970.

         He attended Muskingum College and was a graduate of Ohio Northern University.  He was a retired teacher and educator and a member of Stop 9 Church of Christ, Byesville.

        He leaves a brother, Rodney Morris of Cambridge; and two sisters, Mrs. Sherman Dearth of Warren and Mrs. Freda Swank of Quaker City.  A sister and three brothers are deceased.

        Friends may call Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Scott-Atkinson Funeral Home, where services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Abe Miller officiating.  Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.

        Franklin Neuhardt age 92 of Lewisville, Route 1 died Jan. 18, in the Barnesville Hospital.

        He was born Oct.31, 1889 on Lewisville Route 1, son of the late Jacob and Lucetta Bintz Neuhardt.  He was a retired state Civil Service Employee, veteran of World War I, and member of Masonic Lodge of Woodsfield and American Legion Woodsfield.

        Mr. Neuhardt was preceded in death by his wife, Ameria Harper Neuhardt in July 1979.

        He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Olive Carpenter, Smithfield, Mrs. Adrienne Winland, Lewisville, Route 1, one son James Neuhardt, Dayton; six grandchildren.

        Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Tuesday from 2:30 - 9 p.m. where services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m.  Burial in Friendship Cemetery Lewisville.

        Masonic services were at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

        Funeral services were held Monday last week at Thorn-Eberle Funeral Home here for Mrs. Florence Neuhart, 83, Quaker City Rt. 1, who died May 8, 1982 at Woodsfield Health Care Center.

        She was born Oct. 13,* 1899, in Monroe County, daughter of the late Phillip and Cora Goutbelout [sic--Gutberlet] Christman.  She was a retired school teacher and a member of Seneca Valley Church of Christ.

        She leaves her husband, Charles Neuhart, whom she married Oct. 6, 1923; a son, Neil A. Neuhart of Quaker City Route 1; two daughters, Mrs. John (Coralee) Garrett of Quaker City Route 1; Mrs. James (Mary Lou) Waldie of Sparta, N.C.; two brothers, Ben Christman of Quaker City Route 1 and Phillip Christman, Lewisville Route 1; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Three sisters are deceased.

        Officiating at the service were Pastor Martin Brown and Pastor Amos Orrison, with burial following in Batesville Cemetery.

        Services for Jerry Orval Neuhart, 35, Pasco, Washington, were held September 18, 1982 in Muellers Chapel of the Falls in Kennewick, Wa.  He died Sept 15, 1982 in Virginia Mason Clinic, Seattle.  Burial was made in City View Cemetery, Pasco, Wa.

        Born in Canton, Feb 22, 1947, he was the son of Jacqueline [sic--Jacquelyn] McGlumphy Neuhart and the late Jack Neuhart who died in 1979.  He graduated from Kennewick High School, served in the Air Force for seven years and was a Vietnam veteran.  Until his illness, he was employed by Widding Transportation Co. of Pasco.

        Survivors include his wife Vivian, sons Nick and Scott, and a daughter, Minet, all of Pasco, Wa.; his mother; brothers, Mike, Robin and Todd, all of Kennewick, Tony serving with the U.S. Army in Germany and Dave of Portland, Oregon; sisters, Penny Neuhart, Evonne Rodebaugh and Audrey Ahn, all of Kennewick; grandfathers, James Neuhart, Batesville and George McClumphy [sic--McGlumphy] of Salesville.

        Surviving are his wife, Mildred; two sons, George, Jr., and Arthur of Battle Creek; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Esther) Eastman of Battle Creek; one grandchild; and four sisters, Mrs. Esther Snyder and Mrs. Donald (Jennie) Abell of Findlay, Ohio, Mrs. Sara Nie [sic--Nye] of Tiffin, Ohio, and Mrs. Blanche Burlingame of Caldwell, Ohio.

        Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Thompson Centennial Funeral Home, Paw Paw.  Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mattawan.

Nichols, Elmer Guy Nichols

        Elmer G. Nichols, 74, of Nine Mile, died Sunday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

        He was born in Nine Mile, a son of the late Meredith and Rebecca Wiley Nichols.  He was a self-employed painter and a member of the Nine Mile United Methodist Church, where he taught the men's class and was past assistant superintendent.

        Surviving are his wife, Marnella Cronin Nichols; a son, Staff. Sgt. Barry Nichols of South Korea; two daughters, Marlyn Linn of Washington and Mrs. M. Ginger Postlewait of Marietta, O.; two brothers, Pearl Nichols and Clarence Nichols, both of St. Marys; and five grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, two brothers and three sisters.

        Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Nine Mile United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Maurice Miller officiating. Burial will be in he Nine Mile Cemetery.

        Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Ruttencutter Funeral Home in St. Marys, where the body will lie in repose one hour prior to services.

 

Owens, Harry E. Owens

        Harry E. Owens, Jr., 49, of Reno Star Route, principal of Harmar School and Fairview Heights School, died in the emergency room at Marietta Memorial Hospital at 7 p.m. Sunday.  An autopsy was planned to determine the exact cause of death.

        He was born July 7, 1932 in Parkersburg to Mrs. Wanda Cale Owens Owens* and Harry E. Owens.  He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School with the class of 1950 and received his degree from Glenville State Teachers College in 1953.  He received a master's degree from West Virginia University in 1966 and took additional courses at Ohio University.  He served as principal of Stanleyville School for three years and had been a teacher at Norwood School until 1966.  He had been principal in Ridgewood Local School District near Coshocton until 1966 and until 1969 when he returned to Marietta where he had served as principal at Phillips School, Reno School, Marion School and North Hills School before being appointed Harmar School principal five years ago.  He was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church, Williamstown Lodge, A.F. & A.M, Scottish Rite Society, Valley of Wheeling, and the Marietta Evening Lions Club.

        On March 2, 1959,** he married Betty Lou Rollison*** who survives with two daughters, Janet Sue Owens Buckley, Morgantown, W.Va. and Mary Ellen of the home; one son, James Cameron of Belpre and one brother, William Edwin of Vienna, W. Va.  He was preceded in death by an infant brother.

        Services will be held at  3 p.m. Wednesday in the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with the Rev. Leo Farley officiating.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.

Cecil R. Piatt, 28 , of Route 1, Lewisville, died late Oct 8 (1982) as the result of an auto accidenton Monroe County Road 77. He was born March 27,1954, in Monroe County, OH, the son of Herschel Piatt, Route 1, Lewisville, and the son of the late Mildred Springer Piatt. He was an employee of the Monroe County highway department. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Charlene Gatten Piatt of the home, two sons Keith and Kurt (twins) all of the home; one daughter, Shawndra; one sister, Mrs Bonnie Weddle, of Curtice; four brothers, Harley of Lewisville; Carl, Guy and Kenneth of Route 1, Lewisville. Friends were received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield Sunday where services were held Monday with the Rev. Stephen D. Hopkins of Woodsfield Baptist Church in charge. Raymond Eugene Piatt 55, of 11 East Ninth Street, Ashland, died Dec. 9 in Samaritan Hospital following a long illness. Born Oct. 30, 1927, in Woodsfield, he was the son of Charles and Emma Thomas Piatt. Mr. Piatt had lived in Ashland County Most of his life. He had been employed as an electrician for Faultless Rubber Co. for the past 32 years. He was married Aug. 12, 1964, to Anna McKensie, who survives. Also surviving are two sons.Charles and Roger, both of Ashland three step-sons, Dwight Norris and Donny Norris, both of Ashland and Wally Boreman; three step-daughters, Cindy Ables and Shirley Norris, both of Ashland, Nancy Young of Mansfield 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer of West Salem, Ralph and Frank, both of Ashland; one sister, Beatrice Comstock of Akron. Also three half sisters, Mary Bright and Elizabeth Alleman, both of Woodsfield and Edna Straight of Ashland. Services were held Dec. 13 at Heyl Funeral Home with the Rev. Dempsey George officiating.         Survivors include his wife, Betty, of New Orleans; a daughter, Bonnie Houshour* of Galliano, La.; three brothers, Floyd Ray Rogers, Richard Keith Rogers, and James Rogers all of Bloomington; six sisters, Nancy Capps, Connie Van Pelt, Wilma Branam, all of Bloomington, Barbara Van Buskirk of Cutoff, La., Betty Bender and Patty Chambers of San Antonio, Texas; one granddaughter; and his mother, Pauline Rogers.

        He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

        Mrs. Scobey was a member of West Hill Baptist Church and the Wayne County Camp of the Gideon Auxiliary.

        She was a private-duty practical nurse.

        Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Alice) Holmes of Homerville; one son, Virgil E. of Centerville; three grandchildren and one sister, Lela Kutz of Wooster.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde O., Jan. 14, 1968.

        Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in McIntire Funeral Home, Wooster, with the Rev. Daniel Wingate officiating.  Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

        Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

        A resident here since 1941, Mrs. Staib was born Sept. 27, 1912, in Clarington, a daughter of Burt M. Trembly and Edna Kocher Trembly.

        She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Midland, where she played the organ 18 years.

        Besides her husband, Paul W. Staib Sr., whom she married Oct. 12, 1932, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Ross of Calcutta; two sons, Eugene L. Staib of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Paul W. Staib Jr. Of Calcutta; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Miller of Shadyside, Ohio, and Miss Esther M. Trembly of East Liverpool; four brothers, Lt. Col. Wilbert Trembly of Pierre, S.D.; Raymond and George Trembly, both of Clarington; and Robert Trembly  of Shadyside; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

        Services are to be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home by Pastor Ronald Lithgow.

        Burial is to be in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.

        An employee of  Valley  Machine (C. E. Cast), he was a member of the First Christian Church, Martins Ferry, Eagles Aerie 456, the Italian and Polish Clubs of Martins Ferry, and the Belmont Better Hunting and Fishing Club.

        His wife, Dorothy Yost Stalder, preceded him in death in September of 1981.

        Surviving are a son, Jack Edward Stalder of Martins Ferry; three daughters, Mrs. Oden (Donna Jean) Thompson of Brandywine, W. Va., Mrs. Larry (Marlene) Stullenburg and Mrs Don (Judy) Headley, both of Martins Ferry; one brother, Robert Stalder and one sister, Mrs. James (Marie) Miller Sr., both of Sardis, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Edna T. Stephen, 81, of RD 2, Barnesville, died at the Barnesville Hospital, Tuesday evening. She was born Dec. 23, 1900 at Somerset Township, a daughter of the late Allen and Jane Davis Huntsman.

She was a member of the Boston Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by four sons and one daughter. Surviving are her husband, Welda Stephen; four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Jackson and Mrs. Martha Eddy, both of Barnesville, Mrs. Glenda Betts of Bethesda and Mrs. Eileen Wehr of Canton; three sons, Kelly of Hendrysburg, Bobby of Ozark, Ruben of Barnesville; two brothers, Lester Huntsman and James Huntsman, both of Barnesville; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Johnson and Mrs. Golda Swallie, both of Barnesville, Mrs. Pearl Burkhart of Belmont, Mrs. Bertha Morris of Ashland; 36 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.

Stephen, Elmer Stephen  

Elmer Stephen, 61, of RD 2, Barnesville, died at the Barnesville Hospital, Sunday. He was born in Belmont County, April 21, 1920, a son of Welda and Edna Huntsman Stephen.  He was a Methodist, veteran of World War II, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2792 and Eagles Lodge No. 937.

He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers, and one sister.

Surviving in addition to his parents, residents of Barnesville, are three sons, Vallis, Gary (Hungie), both of Barnesville and Willis of Columbus; one daughter, Marlene Littleton Ault of Barnesville; three brothers, Kelly of Hendrysburg, Bobby of Ozark and Ruben of Barnesville; four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Jackson and Mrs. Martha Eddy both of RD 2, Barnesville, Mrs. Glenda Betts of Bethesda, Mrs. Eileen Wehr of Canton; 13 grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home, Barnesville, after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, where services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. James Porter officiating. Burial in Somerton Cemetery, Somerton. VFW Services Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Stephen, W. Welda Stephen 

W. Welda Stephen, 82, of RD 2, Barnesville, died Monday at the Barnesville Hospital. He was born Aug. 10, 1900 in Belmont County, a son of the late Taylor and Magealena Neuhart Stephen.

He was a member of the Boston Church of Christ and Moose Lodge No. 1304.

He way preceded in death by his wife, Edna, May 25, 1982, also four sons and a daughter.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Jackson, Mrs. Martha Eddy, both of Bailey's Mills, Mrs. Glenda Betts of Bethesda, Mrs. Eileen Wehr of Canton; three sons, Kelley of

Hendrysburg, Bobby of Ozark,  and Ruben of Barnesville; one sister, Iona Taylor of Barnesville; one brother, Fred of Somerton; 37 grandchildren and  58 great-grandchildren.  

Friends will be received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home, Barnesville, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with Evangelist James Gallagher officiating. Burial will be in Somerton Cemetery.

 

Stickle, Edna Mae Stickle, nee Reichart

        Services for Edna Mae Reichart Stickle, 64, of Canton, will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, at Schneeberger and Son Funeral Home in Canton.

        Mrs. Stickle died Tuesday at Timken Mercy Medical Center, Canton.

        She was born in Beloit, March 7,* 1917, and was employed for 14 years by Embro Manufacturing Co.  Mrs. Stickle was a member of Ladies of the Moose and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 693.

        She is survived by a daughter,  Mrs. Kenneth (Patricia) McHenry of Marlboro; two sons, Jack and Harold, both of Canton; two brothers, Robert Reichart  of Sebring and Dale Reichart of Alliance; and six grandchildren.  Two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Wilt and Shirley Reichart, died previously.

        Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, 7-9 p.m.  Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Canton.

Stucker, Fern Stucker, nee Pope   (Eunice "Fern" Stucker, nee Pope)

        Fern Stucker, 78, Waldron, died Thursday at 5:40 p.m. in the Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville.

        Mrs. Stucker was born Aug. 15, 1904, in Waldron, the daughter of Marion and Carrie Pope.  She was first married to Raymond A. Thompson, and he preceded her in death in March of 1924.  She married Cortez A. Stucker and he preceded her in death in 1958.  She was a lifetime resident of Waldron and a member of the Waldron Baptist Church, the Waldon Rebekah Lodge, the Waldron Senior Citizens and the Waldron Community Club.

        She is survived by three sons:  Russell B. Stucker, R.R. 1, Waldron, Larry W. Stucker, Terrance, Calif., and Robert A. Stucker, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters:  Mrs. John (Ella Mae) Kastor [sic Kaster] and Mrs. Randall (Bonita) Klingensmith, Saint Clarisville [sic--Clairsville], Ohio; one brother, Scott Pope, Waldron; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

        The services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Glenn E. George Funeral Home in St. Paul with the Rev. Samuel Wright officiating and with burial in the Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. till time of the service on Sunday.

 

Tubaugh, Wilbur C. Tubaugh

WILBUR   C.  TUBAUGH,  84

        Wilbur C. Tubaugh, 84, of Washington, N. C., formerly of Woodsfield, Monroe Co. died at his home Friday, December 31, 1982.

        He was born Jan. 5, 1899.  He is the son of the late Henry and Lavivia* Tubaugh of Woodsfield.

        He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Susanne Mowry.  He is survived by his wife, Bertie Tubaugh, a son Harry S. Tubaugh, three sisters, Blanche Tubaugh, Estelle Boston, Esther Tubaugh of Woodsfield, and three grandchildren.  Funeral services and burial were Monday at Memorial Park, Falls Church, Va.

*Submitter’s Note: On her obituary, the name was spelled LAVINA.  However, on her tombstone the spelling is LAVINIA.

 

Van Dyne, J. W. Van Dyne

        J.W. Van Dyne, 59, died at 1 a.m. Friday, September 10, 1982 in Marietta Hospital, Marietta following an illness and cancer.

        He was born March 16,1923, in Barnesville, to Etta Friday Van Dyne of Barnesville and the late Harry Van Dyne.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.  He had been a Unit Supervisor at the Ohio Power Company Muskingum River Plant, Beverly, Ohio.

        He was baptised in the Barnesville Presbyterian Church, he was a member of Russell Chadwick Post 389, American Legion at Beverly, and had been a unit committeeman for Waterford Boy Scout Troup 222 for several years.

        He was married March 22, 1944, to Betty Lee Anderson of Martins Ferry.  In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Daryl J. Van Dyne of Waterford, and three sisters, Imogene Phillips and Geraldine Reed of Barnesville, and Marcella Heskett of Los Altos, California.

        Services were held Sunday, September 12, at the McCurdy Funeral Home at Beverly and the Rev. Thomas Knauff officiated.  Burial was in the Waterford Cemetery with military honors.  Friends may contact Betty Van Dyne at P.O. Box 101, Waterford, Ohio 45786.

 

Vaughn, Audrey Vaughn, nee Buchanan

Audrey  Vaughn,  64,  Dies

        Mrs. Audrey Vaughn, 64, a long-time Fairfield resident, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Hospital.

        Mrs.Vaughn had been admitted to the hospital five days prior to her death, suffering from emphysema.  She had been a resident of Way-Fair since July and had been in ill health for six years.

        Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Nales' Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. Garold T. Hart officiating.  Burial will be in Koontz Cemetery in Fairfield.

        Visitation will be conducted from 5-8 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at the funeral home.

        She was born in Mississippi County, Ark., Feb. 8, 1918, the daughter of Edgar and Rosa (Clevenger) Buchanan.  The Buchanans moved to Wayne County and settled near the Skillet Fork River.

        She was married to Elmer Vaughn in Perryville, Mo., Nov. 6, 1942.  He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1966.

        Mrs. Vaughn was employed in domestic service and worked for several years at Nales' Funeral Home before she became ill.

        She was a member of the Pentecostal faith.

        Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Joyce Vaughan, of Fairfield; one brother, Berkley Buchanan, of Nevada; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Kimbro, of Ridgeway; and one granddaughter, Barbara McCormick, of Evansville, Ind.

 

West, Donald G. West

        Donald G. West, 39, of 648 Gougler Rd., went to be with the Lord Nov. 7.

        He was born in Morristown, Ohio, and had lived in the Akron area most of his life  He was a military veteran, serving in the United States Navy for four years.  He attended the Cathedral of Tomorrow.

        Mr. West is survived by sons, Jason and Marshall, both of Akron; parents, Willis E. and Dorothy J. West of Akron; brother, Larry A. of Naples, Fla.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar C. Glover of Bethesda, Ohio; many aunts, uncles, loved ones and friends.

        Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1 p.m. at the Schermesser Funeral Home, SUBURBAN  SOUTH  CHAPEL, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (Route 619), Rev. Wilson, Hazel Wilson, nee Stead

        Hazel Wilson, 88, a resident of 402 Wayne Hayes Towers, Martins Ferry, died Monday evening at Martins Ferry Hospital.  She was born March 13, 1894 in Bridgeport, a daughter of the late Robert B. and Ida Jane Lisk Stead.

        She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Martins Ferry, the Berean Sunday School Class, and the Wayne Hayes Towers Club.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Albert Wilson, in 1969 and a daughter, Eleanor, four brothers, Larry, Claude, Robert, and Lon and a sister Bernice.

        She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Lester (Alberta) Thornton of Floral City, Fla., Mrs. Charles (Betty) Dowdell of Glendo, Wyo., Mrs. Bernice Speidel, Mrs. Audra McCardle and Mrs. Paul (Deborah) Curnes, all of Martins Ferry; two sons, Charles A. Wilson of Massillon and the Rev. James A. Wilson of Sussex, Va.; one brother, Kenneth Stead of Louisville, Ky.; 32 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

        Members of the family will receive friends at the Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, at a time to be announced.  Final arrangements are incomplete.

        Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Martins Ferry or the Martins Ferry Public Library.

 

Winland, Viola Winland, nee Weber

        Viola Weber Winland, 75, of Lewisville, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1982 in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville.  She was a member of the Buchannan* Presbyterian Church, Lewisville.  She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Geraldine Marie Winland.  Surviving are a sister, Zelda Betts of Lewisville; five brothers, Floyd and Willard Weber, both of Lewisville, Raymond of Zanesville, Lawrence of Newark and Earl of West Alexandria, Ohio.  Friends received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield.  Interment in the Buchannan* Church Cemetery, Lewisville.

Wood, Lyman Wood

        Lyman (Bud) Wood, 90, of 46 E. Athens Road, Roseville, died at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in Bethesda Hospital where he had been a patient for one week.

        He was born Feb. 11, 1892, in Cottonwood Falls, Kan., a son of Lyman and Maggie Frisbee Wood and was employed by Nelson-McCoy Pottery Co. in Roseville until he retired in 1960.

        Mr. Wood was a member of Franklin Avenue Church of Christ in Roseville.

        His first wife, Letha, died in 1950, and a son, Gerald, died in 1977.

        Surviving are his second wife, the former Cornelia Friday; a son, Jay of Rainer Road in Roseville; a daughter, Mrs. James (Nelrose) Pinnick of Reynoldsburg; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

        Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Roseville chapel of Cannon and Cannon Funeral Home, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with William A. Barrell officiating.  Burial will be in Roseville Cemetery.
