GRAYSVILLE--Cars Alexander Anderson, 84, of Route 1 died
Wednesday afternoon in his home.
He was born June 20, 1898, in Monroe County to Charles and
Hannah Sloan Anderson. He was a retired
farmer and oil field worker and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of
Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Morris Anderson, of the
home; a son, Willis of Graysville; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Rosalie) Coss and
Mrs. Fred (Ruth) Woodyard, both of Zanesville; a brother, Luther of Graysville;
four sisters, Mrs. Lila Rinard and Mrs. Nellie Rinard, both of Graysville, Mrs.
Arlie (Nettie) Martin of Sycamore Valley and Georgia Anderson of Zanesville;
eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home
at Woodsfield from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the Pleasant Ridge
Church of Christ at Graysville Rt. 1at noon Saturday where funeral services
will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Baker was born Feb. 6, 1894, in Ashland County. She was the daughter of Melvin D. and W.
Lorena Mason Jacobs.
Mrs. Baker, 88, of 1011 County Road 1175, RD 3, Ashland,
died Saturday at Woodlawn Nursing Home, Mansfield.
She had resided in Ashland County most of her life and was
a member of Grace Brethren Church.
Survivors include two sons, Lyle of Ashland and the Rev. W.
Wayne Baker of Winona Lake, Ind.; 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
She was married July 16, 1912 to George Wilbur* Baker, who
preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1976.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters and one
son.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Nellie Bauman
who died at the Wetzel County Hospital Saturday. All who knew her also mourn the loss of a good friend and
neighbor. Mrs. Bauman had been an
active member of the St. John's UMC for many years. When services were no longer held there, she transfered [sic] her
membership and loyalty to the Zion UCC and she was active in the services,
Sunday School and Women's Guild.

Bowersock, Mary E.
(Formerly of Bay City)
Mrs. Bowersock passed away following a lingering illness,
Monday evening, July 4, 1983 at Bay Medical Care Facility, age 80 years. She was born July 25, 1902 in Pine Ridge,
Ohio and has resided in Bay City since 1939.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from the former
Mercy Hospital. Her husband Elmer,
predeceased her on December 27, 1970.
Surviving her are two sons: John
R. Bowersock of Sterling, Mich. and Stanley Bowersock of Bay City; seven
grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Marie Krikbride of Elyria, Ohio, and
Mrs. Edna Mendenhall of Detroit; and her nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place at 1:00
p.m. Thursday, July 7, 1983 at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Robert M. Biddison
and interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home when the family will be
present Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and
from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Charles A. Boyd, 59, of Reno died at 4 p.m. Friday at St.
Joseph Hospital at Parkersburg following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Marietta to the late Harrison
L. Boyd and Edna Dye Boyd Buell. He had
been employed at Hendershot's Marathon Service Station for 10 years. He was a member of the Buckeye Sheriff's
Association, the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and a former member of the Reno
Volunteer Fire Department and the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He had served with the Military Police
during World War II.
He is survived by one brother, George Boyd of Marietta;
three nieces, three great nephews and four great nieces.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the
McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with Arnold Kramer officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park
with military rites at the grave.
Friends may call at the funeral home from this afternoon until the hour
of the services.

Services for Opal Bramhall, 77, of Kansas City, formerly of
Lebanon, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pitts Chapel at Bolivar, with the

Mrs. Bramhall died Saturday night in Research Hospital,
Kansas City. She was retired from
National Bell and Hess Corp.
Surviving are an aunt and several cousins.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 tonight.

Services for Robert Alvin Briggs,
Denver, were Monday at Westminster United Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Crown Hill.
Briggs, 73, died Thursday at
Presbyterian Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 23, 1909, in Greeley,
and was reared and educated there. His
first wife, the form Leta Eidson, died in 1954. In 1966 he was married to Lettie Gregory Cooke in Denver. Briggs was employed by Morey Mercantile Co.
and National Jewish Hospital. After his
retirement in 1977 he was a volunteer at the Arthritis Craft Shop where he
taught chair caning. He enjoyed
gardening and fishing. He was a member
of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 1.
He is survived by his wife; six
daughters, Arlene Weaver, Texas, Dorothy Jackson, Hotchkiss, Ruth Schubert,
Georgia, Mary Ann Straw, San Jose, Calif., and Elsie Elliott and Evelyn Harvey,
both of Westminster; two sons, Robert A. Jr., Westminster, and Albert,
Littleton; five stepdaughters, Betty Cudsworth, Estes Park, Leona VanCleef,
Castle Rock, Myra Pearson, Kansas, Marlene Cialone, New Jersey, and Diane
Burkland, Denver; four brothers, Ray, Arizona, Clarence, Greeley, Lloyd,
Monterey, Calif., and George, Casper, Wyo.; three sisters, Virginia Lantz,
Greeley, Opal Briggs, Los Angeles, and Faye Henneck, Greeley; 44 grandchildren
and 39 great-grandchildren.

George Alfred Brown, 74, of
Barrister St., Belmont, died Thursday at his home. He was born Oct. 10, 1908 at Klee, a son of the late Ben and
Myrtle Cook Brown. He was a retired
employee of Nickles Bakery, Martins Ferry, and a member of the Church of Christ
at Belmont.
He was preceded in death by
his first wife, Martha Funkhouser Brown in 1953, his second wife, Ruth Pratt
Brown in 1981 and a brother Harley.
Surviving are three sons,
Wayne of Port Huron, Mich., Joseph of Red Bluff Calif., and Franklin of
Bridgeport; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy (Darby) Landers and Mrs. Betty (George)
Redpath, both of Bellaire; a stepson, Jerold West of Rittman; a stepdaughter,
Mrs. Donna Parker of Cambridge; a brother, Walter of Prosser, Wash.; two
sisters, Mrs. Ann Funkhouser of Belmont, and Mrs. Nettie Klee of Bellaire; 14
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at
the Walter C. Bauknecht and Son Funeral Home, Bellaire after 7 p.m. Saturday

He was preceded in death by
his wife Stella; one son, Charles, five brothers and three sisters.

McCabe, both of Barnesville; one sister, Mrs. Versa Leach, Barnesville; four
grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.

Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home Saturday at 3 p.m. Burial was made in the

Mrs. Laura Dean Brown, 80, of 1612 Bennett Ave., died
Saturday, March 5, at Bethesda Hospital following a long illness.
She was born Oct. 24, 1902, in Lewisville, a daughter of
Sinclair and Jane Laffaree* Denbow.
An area resident for most of her life, she was a member of
the South Zanesville Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her husband James V. Brown, whom she
married June 1, 1941; two nieces, Mrs. Clinton (Hazel) Snyder of 1810 Lawhead
Lane and Mrs. Robert (Jane) Wessling of Mansfield and a nephew, Harold Metzger
of Birmingham, Ala.

at the Bolin Funeral Home, where final arrangements are incomplete.

William E. (Bill) Brown, 42, of 6382 Hill St., Ravenna,
died early today at Robinson Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born March 1, 1941 in Noble County, Mr. Brown lived in the
Ravenna area most of his life. He had
been employed in Mantua as a machinist for the Eaton Corp. He was a member of Black Horse Baptist
Church and the Ravenna Moose Club 1234.
Surviving are his wife, Ramona; daughters, Sherry and Lori,
and son, William, all at home; parents, Lester and Freda Brown of Ravenna;
sister, Debra of Ravenna; brothers, James and Larry of Kent, and Carl, John,
Roger and Michael, all of Ravenna.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday
at the Shorts Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel.

R. Burch Sr., 63, of May Road, Follansbee, died Saturday at St. John Medical
Center.
He was an employee of Titanium Metals Corp. of Toronto
until his retirement, a member of the Hooverson Heights Fire Department and a
veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a member of St. Johns Road Baptist
Church.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Gregory Burch; his mother,
Bessie Ann Dillon Burch of Follansbee; one son, Robert Burch Jr., at home; five
daughters, Mrs. James (Terry) Mantos of Bloomingdale, Mrs. Patsy (Dianne) Pepe
Jr. of Louise, W. Va., Donna Burch of Columbiana, S.C., Beverly Martin of
Follansbee and Mrs. Robert (Roberta) Fowler of West Liberty; one brother,
Charles F. of Follansbee; and six grandchildren.
He was born Nov. 17, 1919, in Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his father,
Joseph R. Burch.

Mrs. Harriet Leach Carpenter, 79, of 518 Logan St.,
Dennison, died at Twin City Hospital emergency room at 4:18 A.M. today (May 18,
1983). She had been ill six months.
She was born in Calais, Monroe County, on Aug. 22, 1903, a
daughter of the late Samuel and Angie Carpenter Leach. She was married Nov. 12,
1924 to Otto Carpenter who died April 2, 1948.
She leaves six sons, Clayton J. of Port Washington, William
R. and Thomas, both of Uhrichsville and Leonard, Junior and Dennis, all of the
home; four daughters, Mrs. Beulah Henry of Uhrichsville, Mrs. Robert (Wilma)
Briggs of New Philadelphia; Mrs. Wanda Miller of Coshocton and Miss Linda
Carpenter of the home; one brother Arch Leach of Calais; two sisters, Mrs. Kate
Euclid* and Mrs. Jennie Mansel,* both of Zanesville; 23 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren. Six brothers and one sister are deceased.
Services will be Friday at 11 A.M. at R. K. Lindsey Funeral
Home, Dennison, with the Rev. A. J. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in

at 11:15 a.m. following an extended illness.
He was born in Monroe
County, a son of Daniel and Mary Pierce
Carpenter. He was a farmer all his life
in Monroe County and was a member of Summerfield Church of Christ.
He leaves his
wife, Louisa Hannahs Carpenter who he
married Nov. 22, 1913; one son Elvin Carpenter of West
Lafayette; one daughter Gene (Ada)
Freetag of West Lafayette; one sister
Goldie Carpenter of Batesville; four
grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren, and one
great-great-grandson. Two brothers and
two sisters are deceased.
Services will be
Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Given-Dawson Funeral Home, West Lafayette, with the
Rev. Edward McGuiggan officiating.

WEST LAYFAYETTE – A
massive rescue operation involving workers from Tuscarawas, Coshocton and
Holmes counties recovered the body of a 20 year-old Sarahsville man from the
Tuscarawas River here Sunday morning.
Coshocton County Sheriff's officials said the body of
Bradley Casey was recovered by divers at 9:30 A.M. in 10 to 12 feet of water.
Rescue operations began at 1:34 A.M. when Casey's cousin,
Richard Bates of West Lafayette, called the sheriff's department to report a
possible drowning.
Bates and Casey were reportedly working a trout line in the
river when their boat capsized. Bates
told authorities he was able to swim to shore and call for help.
Dr. Donald G. Warren, Coshocton County coroner, was at the
scene and ruled the drowning accidental.
Mr. Casey was born Nov. 1, 1962 in Cambridge, son of
Charlotte Casey Brumage and the late Rex Casey.
A Shenandoah High School and Nashville Auto Diesel College
graduate, he was a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church and Caldwell Eagles
Aerie 2952.
In addition to his mother, he leaves his step-father, Harry
Brumage; a brother, John of
Caldwell; two sisters, Mrs. James
(Wendy) Hughley of Caldwell and Trudy of the home; a half-brother, Jay Brumage with the U.S. Marines Corps in the
Philippine Islands; a half-sister, Mrs.
Gae Tretenick of Clarksville, PA.;
maternal grandmother, Irene Clark of Sarahsville; paternal grandparents,
Charles and Betty Casey of Sarahsville;
and a nephew Charley Hughley.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. today at McVay
Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be 1 P.M. Thursday with Rev. Paul
McGraw officiating. Burial will be in

Cates, 77, Long Time Airtex Worker Dies
Kenneth Lyle Cates, 77, of Herrin, a retired Airtex
Products employee, formerly of Fairfield, died at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18,
1983, in Herrin Hospital at Herrin.
Mr. Cates had resided for 40 years in Fairfield prior to
moving to Herrin.
Graveside Services
Graveside funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday
(today) at the Cisne Cemetery in Cisne with Bro. Mendon Darnell officiating.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Meridith Funeral Home at Carbondale.
Mr. Cates was born in Wayne County Sept. 1, 1905, the son
of Louis and Chloe (Cariens) Cates.
He was married to the former Lucille Spicer, of
Johnsonville, in 1935. She preceded him in death in March of 1972.
Mr. Cates was employed as a laborer at Airtex Products and
retired in 1971.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Masonic
Lodge, both of Fairfield.
The Survivors

QUAKER CITY -- Clyde Christman, 54, of Quaker City, died at
9 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 12, 1983) in Barnesville Hospital.
He was born Jan. 8, 1929 in Noble County, son of the late
Walter S. and Lula Wehr Christman. A
farmer and an operating engineer, he was a member of the Quaker City United
Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Clara Belle Kennon, who he married
Oct. 27, 1951, he leaves five sons, Clyde Reed, Jay and Darin, all of the
home. Dennis and Clinton, both of
Quaker City; two brothers, Ralph of Jerusalum [sic--Jerusalem] and Don of
Summerfield; six sisters, Katherine Miller of Cuyahoga Falls, Florence Wells,
Peggy McLaughlin and Eva Pearl Kennon, all of Barnesville, Jane Powell of
Quaker City and Doris Green of Cambridge; three grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.
One sister and one grandchild preceded him in death.

BLOOMFIELD -- Damon F. City, 64, R. 5, Bloomfield, died
Thursday afternoon at Greene County General Hospital.
Born June 18, 1918, in Jasonville, he was the son of Elmer
and Nellie (Byers) City. He was an Air
Force veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Post 106 in
Worthington. He was retired from Crane
in 1978 where he worked as a machinist.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma (Haldeman) City; three
daughters, Diana Sue Baugh and Mary Dee Turpin, both of Worthington and Zenobia
Ruth Lewis of Kingsville, Texas; two sons, Elmer City of Brownsburg and Jeffrey
City of Spartanburg, S.C.; one brother, Benson City of Clinton; two sisters,
Beatrice Tow of Long Beach Calif., and Emogene Disney of Martinsville; 16
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Welch and Cornett
Worthington Chapel with Joe Conarroe officiating. Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday
and noon until services Sunday.

Former Toulon Resident Dies
Edgar F. Claybaugh, 76, of Culver City, CA formerly of Toulon died Sept. 21. Funeral services and burial were at Forest
Lawn at Glendale on Sept. 23.
He was born Feb. 26, 1907, the son of Claude C. and Mary
Westerfield Claybaugh. He was educated
in the Toulon schools and graduated from Toulon Township High School in 1926.*
He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Golstein** of
Peoria, three sisters, Eleanor and Margaret of Toulon, sister Marie Kevin of
Burbank, Il. and one brother Robert of Toulon and two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two
brothers.

after an illness of one year.
She was married to James Cody in 1976, and he survives.
Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. David Harker
at 10 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home at Hope. Calling hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Cody was born July 21, 1926, in Bartholomew County,
the daughter of Floyd and Goldie Drake Pope.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Columbus
Order of the Eastern Star and Eagles Lodge Auxiliary.
Surviving with her husband are eight sons, Harold Thompson
of Shady Lane, Gerald Thompson of 1036 Union, Tommy Thompson of Columbus, Lloyd
Thompson Jr. of 1217 Lafyette [?sic--Lafayette], Ronnie Thompson of
Franklin Street, David Thompson of Jackson Street, and Johnny Thompson and

illness. Born in Barnesville, he

Inc. He served in the U.S. Air Force

12:30 p.m. Friday in the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center
after an extended illness.
He was born Oct. 8, 1899, in West Virginia to Hugh A. and
Cora Perry Cutright.
He was married on Aug.12, 1920 to Ruth M. Botkin who
survives.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Mildred A. Houck, a

He was a retired Mead
employee and served in Company H 42nd Rainbow Division during World War I. He was also a member of the Tabernacle
Baptist Church. Funeral services will
be held 10:30 Tuesday in the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Lusher

Mr. Godfrey died Thursday, August 28,
1983 at the Wells Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1903, in East
Chain to William and Emily Godfrey. He
was a 1924 graduate of Granada High School and was self-employed as a general
contractor in road construction.
He married Zoe Kinkade on Dec. 4, 1932
in Kiester and resided in Kiester since 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Zoe; three
daughters, Mrs. Donald (Margo) Skinner of Arvada, Colo., Mrs. Dale (Kathleen)
Thorpe of Harrisburg, S. D. and Mrs. Linda Hlavinka of Kiester; one son Roger

Sunday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb.14, 1933, in Washington County to George

the Korean War.
In 1968 he married Marjorie Kuhn who survives with two

Indianapolis; Knights of Pythias; DOKK of the Knights of Pythias. He retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1969,
after 36 years of service. He was a
member of UAW Local 371.

SELAH -- Harvey H. Harrison, 65, of 210 E. First Ave.,
Selah, died Sunday in Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Selah to Harry and Fay
(Taylor) Harrison and was the grandson of
E.V. and Jenny Taylor, Selah pioneer residents. He was raised and educated in Selah,
graduating from Selah High School. He
married Veda L. Kinkade in Mabton on June 1, 1941.
Mr. Harrison was employed by Darigold Creamery for 31 years
until his retirement in1973. He was a
member of the Teamsters Union Local 524 in Yakima and was an avid fisherman,
camper and outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Veda Harrison, of Selah; one
son, Dale Harrison of Lompoc, Calif.; two granddaughters, Darlene Harrison and Bobbie
Jo Harrison, both of Othello; two brothers, Virgil Harrison and Roy Harrison,

Henry Hickline,* 81, of Route 1, Rose Hill, died at the home of Edith DeVos, a
good friend.
Hickline was born Jan. 26, 1902 at Rose Hill, son of William
and Elizabeth Denney Hickline. He
married Lyda Luella Mattox at Cedar May 25, 1925. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Ervin (Joyce) Gay, New Sharon and Mrs. Keith (Anita) Morgan,
Rose Hill; a son, Donald Hickline of Hutchinson, Kan.; six grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ivan (Lois) Vannest, Rose Hill; and good
friend, Edith DeVos, Route 2, New Sharon.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight and Forrest.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Garland-Van Arkel Funeral

Man shot, killed in
fight
One man was shot to death and another critically wounded in
separate fights Sunday.
Ronald Lewis Hiell, 43, of 116 Mithoff St. was killed
behind the home of Ronald Dean Spears, 20, of 1225 S. Oakwood Ave. at 4:18 a.m.
Sunday, Columbus police said.
Detectives said Hiell was shot during an argument with
Spears about Hiell's ex-wife Debbie. No
charges had been filed this morning.*

James Belcher, 30, of 293 Hawkes Ave. was in critical
condition at Mt. Carmel West Hospital today with a shotgun wound in the
abdomen. He was injured during an
argument Sunday with Jerry Arnett, 46, and Darrell Arnett, 34, of 980 W.
Bellows Ave., and Chuck Johnson of 982 W. Bellows Ave.

Kleeman, 71, died at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at his home, Boerste Road.
A native of Perry County, Mr. Kleeman was born May 12,
1912, the son of the late Ferd and Matilda (Schneider) Kleeman.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Olive F.; two
daughters, Mrs. Regina Young, Troy, and Mrs. Patricia A. Ernst, St. Meinrad; a son,
Marland P. of Valpariso; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Thaxton and Mrs. Mary Jarboe,
both of Tell City; five brothers, Norbert, Ambrose and Ferd, all of Tell City;
Paul of New Boston, Ill., and Edmund of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (today) at
St.Paul's Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Finch Funeral Home, Tell City, was in charge of
arrangements here, prayers were recited Tuesday evening.
Cornelius George Kuhn was
born on 06 Aug 1907 in Monroe Co., OH. He died on 22 Mar 1983 in Louisville,
Stark, Ohio.
Cornelius G. Kuhn, age 75, of
622 Edwards St., Louisville, passed away Tuesday, Mary 22 [1983] at the Molly
Stark Hospital following a short illness. Born in Monroe County, Ohio, August
6, 1907, he lived in the Louisville area for 55 years. He had worked for the
Berger Division of Republic Steel Co., retiring in 1969, and for many years for
the Superior Sheet Steel Co. of Louisville. He was a member of St. Louis
Catholic Church, Louisville K of C. Council 2530, Louisville FOE Aerie 2374 and
the Arion Singing Society.
He is survived by his wife,
Lucille (Schott) of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Judith) Mahoney of
Toledo; one son, Ronald Kuhn of Louisville; one sister, Mrs. Edwin Crum of
Caldwell; two brothers, Lester Kuhn of Louisville and Arthur Kuhn of Caldwell;
four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James, in 1976.
A Mass of Christian Burial was
held Friday, March 25 at 10:30 AM in St. Louis Catholic Church with burial in
the church cemetery. Calling hours were Thursday at the Paquelet Funeral Home.

She and her husband, Hubert A., were owners of Leibfarth's
Jewelry Store in Ashland until they sold the store to Fred and Thelma Gerson in
1951.
Mrs. Leibfarth was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Ashland and Ashland Altrusa Club.
She was a 50-year member of Ashland Chapter, 92, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by one sister, Grace Richert of
Zephyrhills, Fla.

Leonard Lendon, 37, of 228 South Maple Street, Adrian, MI.
died Feb. 17 (1983), in Huron View Lodge nursing facility, after an extensive
illness.
He was born Feb. 08, 1946 in Monroe
County, to Leonard and Estelle (Morris) Lendon. On Feb. 06, 1965 he
married Beverly Miller in Tecumseh and she survives.
Mr. Lendon had lived in Onstead for the
past three years, moving there from Memphis, TN. He was a 15 year veteran
of the U.S. navy, receiving a medical discharge.
He was a member of the Tecumseh Masonic
lodge no. 69, f. & a. m. and a member of Tecumseh chapter no. 51 o.

his mother, Estelle Lendon Schaub of Lewisville; two sons Jerry and Jay Lendon

Home for Mrs. Mary G. Loughmiller, 67, 631 Crest Drive. She died Thursday at a Topeka hospital after
a long illness. She had cancer.
She was born Feb.25, 1916, at Topeka, the daughter of George
and Gertrude Brandenburg Sardou. She
attended Topeka schools and was graduated from Topeka High School in 1934 in
the first class to attend all three years in the new Topeka High School
building. She later was graduated from
Kansas State College of Agriculture, Manhatten, in 1938 with a degree in home
economics.
Mrs. Loughmiller taught home economics for two years at
Onaga High School, and after she married was a substitute teacher in Topeka
schools. She also worked in Topeka schools
food service division as supervisor of the hot lunch program at Landon Junior
High School. While at Landon she
started the first hot lunch carry-out program from the Landon facilities to
other schools.
She was a member of Omicron Nu, national home economics
honor society, and was a Girl Scout troop leader many years.
She married Rodney E. Loughmiller June 15, 1940, at
Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Linda E.
Curtis, Rochester, Minn., Mrs. Jean Ann Buchanan, Topeka, and Mrs. Gayle G.
Keith, Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche M. Hurley and Gloria L.
Sardou, both of Topeka; a brother, George F.
Sardou, Topeka; and eight grandchildren.

Rose Church for Frank "Pan" Masternick, 77, of 511 North Ave., who
died of a heart ailment at 6:15 p.m. Saturday in South Side Hospital after a
two-week illness.
Mr. Masternick was born Jan. 22, 1906, in Youngstown, a son
of Joseph and Theresa Fortunate Masternick, coming to Girard 10 years ago. He had owned and operated Pan's Cigar Store
in downtown Youngstown for many years and operated Masternick's Cigar Sales in
Girard for the past 10 years. He was a
member of the church and Elks Lodge 55.
His wife, the former Alma Runion, to whom he was married
for 40 years, died in1969.

Chillicothe; several nieces and nephews.

at Barnesville Hospital, Thursday, June 2, 1983. Born October 3, 1889, in Temperanceville, he was a son of Bill
and Mary McCort.
He was a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ
and was a veteran of World War I. He
was preceded in death by a daughter, six brothers, and three sisters.
Surviving are his wife Maggie Bunting McCort; a daughter,
Mrs. Thelma Lucas, Barnesville; six sons, Raymond, Quaker City, Bernard, at

great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Home, where services were held Saturday, 1 p.m., with Evangelist James
Gallagher officiating. Burial was made

Willis E. McCoy Sr., age 60, of 7448 Seymour N.W.,
Massillon, passed away Tuesday morning in the Country Lawn Nursing Home from
complications following an extended illness.
Born in Kentucky, he had been a resident of the Canton-Massillon area
for the past 40 years and was a retired superintendent at Central Alloy
Enterprises Inc., retiring in February, 1982, after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Pigeon Run United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty McCoy of the home; three
sons, Willis E. McCoy Jr. of Malvern, Richard A. McCoy of Jacksonville, FL, and
David C. McCoy of East Sparta; three brothers, James McCoy of Guilford Lake,
Donald McCoy of New York and Dorris "Dode" McCoy of Dover; four
sisters, Mrs. Helen Pfeister of Dover, Mrs. Betty Rucker and Mrs. Beverly
Gibbons, both of Clearwater, FL, and Mrs. Frances Notch of Florida; 11
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a
son Merritt in 1955 and one grandson John Ramsey in 1951.

Hospital in Columbus following an illness. He was born Jan. 25, 1929, in
Matamoras to Harry E. and Opal M. (Howell) Moore. He was a member of
Washington Hall Christian Union Church and was a retired maintenance mechanic
at Consolidated Aluminum at Hannibal. He was a member of the IOOF of
Matamoras.
On Aug. 21, 1948, he married
Juanita Meyers, who survives with two sons, Roy E. Jr. and Mike of Matamoras; one
daughter, Mrs. Donalene Whitmer of Canal Winchester; nine grandchildren; his
mother, Opal Moore of Matamoras; one brother, Cecil of Columbus; and three
sisters, Della Hutchison of Toledo, Betty Dye of Eagle Lake, Fla., and Marilyn
Rhoades of Baltimore, Md.

Thomas Henry Morris, 70, of 3550 Cambridge Road, died at 10:55
p.m. Friday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Marietta to Harry and Catherine Ancell Morris. He had retired as a pipefitter, having
worked through Local 168, Plumber and Pipefitters Union. He also was well known as an artist. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
Church, a Navy veteran of World War II, member of American Legion Post No. 64
and Frontier CB Club, where he was known as "Painter." He was married June 7, 1932, to Helen
McKenna.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. William
(Raleen) Heiss of Marietta; one son, Terry of Newport Rt. 1; three brothers,
Harry of Waco, Texas, Robert of Columbus and James J. of Marietta; two sisters,
Mrs. Catherine Marshall of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Mrs. Mary Fisher of
Hamilton; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter,
Regina Tornes, and one sister, Dorothy Smith.

Tuesday in Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 12, 1889, in Monroe County to Arius and
Sarah Elizabeth Morris Carpenter. She
had spent most of her life in Salem Township.
On Dec. 27, 1910, she was married to Mancil Wilson. He preceded her in death. One son and one
daughter survive this marriage, Harold L. Wilson of Maynardville, Tenn., and
Edith Reeves of Whipple.
On Oct. 1, 1919, she was married to John Mull. He died Aug. 17, 1949, and one daughter
survives this marriage, Doris Pitzer of Whipple. Also surviving are four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren
and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the
Universalist Church near Lower Salem with Jess Nutter officiating. Burial will be in Salem Township

She was born March 6, 1896, in Lawrence Township to John

On June 23, 1923 she married Lawrence J. Prunty who died
Feb. 8, 1974.
Survivors include two brothers and one sister. Ray Gutberlet of Marietta, Guy Gutberlet of
Marietta Rt. 5 and Mrs. Dean (Lora) Oliver of Whipple Rt. 1 and several nephews
and nieces. A brother, Loss Gutberlet,
preceded her in death.

Charles Glendon Riley, 69, 1010 Crestmoor Dr., took his own
life at home Thursday afternoon.
A farmer, he had worked for GE for 17 years, retiring in
1978. He was a former member of the
Gowdy United Methodist Church, a member of the Vine Street United Methodist
Church, Waldron Masonic Lodge No. 217 and Waldron O.E.S. He had moved to Shelbyville seven years ago
from Rush County where he had lived all his life.
A son of Gus E. and Alice (Fox) Riley, he was born Feb. 11,
1913, in Rush County. He was married
April 7, 1932, to Katherine Tuley, who survives.
Also surviving are a
daughter, Mrs. Jules (Patsy) Harcourt, Murray, Ky.; two sons, Gus N. Riley,
Christiansburg, Va., and Charles S. Riley, Westfield; seven grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren. A brother
preceded him in death.
Private graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Blue
Ridge Cemetery, with the Rev. Francis Applegate officiating. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by the Carmony Funeral

Man killed in shooting
A shooting incident south of Bloomington left one man dead early
Friday evening.
Floyd Rogers was pronounced dead on arrival at Bloomington
Hospital from gunshot wounds after he was shot near Bomber's Inn on Ind. 446
near Gross Road shortly after 7 p.m., a Monroe County police spokesman said.
Hospital officials and Dr. Mark Braun of the coroner's
office were not releasing further details of the shooting this morning.

Shooting ruled suicide
A shooting incident Saturday night near Bomber's Inn on
Ind. 446 that left one man dead has been ruled a suicide, Dr. John Pless,
Monroe County Coroner, said this morning.
Floyd Rogers, 39, of 3940 N. Baugh Road, was ruled a victim
of suicide in the 7:26 p.m. shooting.
Rogers shot himself one time in the chest after leaving
Bomber's Inn, Pless said.

John Shinabery, 73, 717 Pierce St., died at 5:55 a.m. this
morning in St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, where he had been a patient for two
days.
He was born in Latty, June 30, 1910, the son of Henry and
Flossie (Jenkins) Shinabery. In 1932 he
married Marjorie Konst, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gary Shinabery of 1805 Ayersville Ave.; two granddaughters; a
step-father, J.C. Ewing of Toledo; a twin brother, Ralph Shinabery, 424 Osceola
St.; and a sister, Mrs. Dale (Arlene) Palmer of Toledo. He was preceded in death by his parents and
a half-brother, Richard Shinabery. He

Earl B. Smith, 52, of Caldwell died at 4 p.m. Friday in
Marietta Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born Nov. 19, 1930* in Noble County to Herman and Erma
VanFossen Smith. He had spent most of his life in Johnstown where he had been a
grocer. After coming to this area, he was driver for Becker Flowers until his
retirement due to ill health. He was a member of the Stafford Church of Christ.
On July 15, 1950, he married Wilma Longfellow who preceded him in death in
1976.
He is survived by his mother of Caldwell; two sons, Brad of
Newark and Bruce of Columbus; one daughter, Connie Taylor of Westerville; two
brothers, Franklin of Caldwell and Donald of New Matamoras; three sisters, Mrs.
Robert (June) Leeper of Lewisville, Mrs. Geneva Crum of Woodsfield and Mrs.
Lester Mallett of New Concord, and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Brian.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Stafford Church
of Christ with Lloyd Westerbrook officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill
Cemetery at Johnstown. Friends may call at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home
until Monday morning and at the church for one hour before the service.

following a three-week illness.
An employee of Morgan Engineering Co. for 30 years, Mr.
Smith was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Alliance, to Herbert and Mary Kocher Smith.
He was a member of Christopher Columbus Lodge, Roma Club
and Dante Alighieri Society.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Williams);
three daughters, Marianne Smith of Alliance, and Cynthia and Honda, both of the
home; two sons, William H. Jr. and Herbert, both of Alliance; and three
grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Israel
Funeral Home, with the Rev. L. Edwin Mosher officiating. Burial will be in Alliance City Cemetery.

Troy Rex Swiger, 66, of East Alley died this morning at 6
at home following an illness of seven years.
A lifelong area resident and Army World War II veteran, Mr.
Swiger was born here March 8, 1917, a son of Mrs. Leona Highland Swiger at home
and the late Bayard Swiger.
He retired as craneman of the former Crucible Steel
Division of Colt Industries.
Besides his mother, survivors include three daughters, Miss
Sandy Swiger of East Liverpool, Mrs. Karla Amburst* of Doylestown and Mrs. Judy
Norman of Kent; a sister, Mrs. Otto (Osee) Brand of East Liverpool, and six
grandchildren.
Services are to be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Martin
Funeral Home by the Rev. Doris Prichard of the Calvary United Methodist Church.
Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

daughter of Henry V. and Tillie Wolf Volland.*
She was the widow of Martin F. Tiemeyer who died in April 1968. She was a member of Cornbrook Extension
Homemakers Club and was the manager of Miller Yearling Ice Cream Store in her
early life. She was a seamstress and
during World War II she was the head cook at Camp Atterbury. She also was co-owner of Tiemeyer Mobile
Home Court at Columbus.
Survivors include one son, Marshall F. Tiemeyer of 1504
McClure; two daughters, Betty Unger of 3020 Revere, and Martina Coy of 6065 W.
Lowell, and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Blanche Tubaugh, 82, of 223 Oaklawn, Woodsfield died
Saturday, February 26, 1983 at the Barnesville Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Henry R.
and Lavinia Marty Tubaugh. She was a
graduate of Ohio University and a retired teacher, having taught 51 years in
Monroe County and Bellaire City Schools.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Kerr,
Mrs. Gertrude Walters, and Misses Besse and Gussie Tubaugh, also three
brothers, Harry, Wilbur and Russell.
Surviving are two sisters Esther Tubaugh and Estelle Boston
of Woodsfield, one niece Mrs. Patricia Leech of Toledo, Ohio, four nephews,
John Kerr of Newport, Ohio; Charles Boston, Knoxville, Tenn.; Harry Tubaugh of
Washington, N.C. and Norman Walters, Denver, Colo.
Funeral services in charge of the Reverend Noah Oxley were
held Tuesday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vawter had been in failing health for several
years. Born in Blue Ridge June 10,
1913, she was a daughter of George and Faye (Marshall) Fessler. She was married to Walter L. Vawter Sept.
18, 1932, and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, Jerry L. Vawter,
Fredericksburg, Va.; a sister, Delores Hunt, Southport; and two
grandchildren. Two sisters preceded in
death.
She had lived in Shelby County most of her life and was the
industrial nurse at the former Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Shelbyville for over
20 years. She retired in the early
1970s.
She was a member of Naamah Chapter No. 73, Order of Eastern
Star, and of the Blue Ridge Christian Union Church. She was also active in harness racing in Shelby County.

10:54 a.m. in City Hospital, where he had been admitted earlier.
He was born May 30, 1930, in Chester, W. Va., a son of

He retired from the former Edwin M. Knowles China Co.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Peggy Wright Williams, whom he
married Aug. 15, 1953, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary) Flowers
of Rogers; four sons, Lewis Alford Williams of East Liverpool, Vernon Williams of
Billings, Mont., Clint Randall Williams and Timothy Williams, both at home; two

8:50 a.m., January 9, 1983, after a short illness.
He was born near Sardis, Ohio on October 31, 1900, the son
of the late Henry and Mary Siegenthaler Winkler. He was a resident of Mansfield area for over 40 years.
He was a member of St. Johns Methodist Church and a veteran
of World War II.
He is survived by a sister Mrs. Fred (Freda) Straub, of
Sardis Rt. 2 and two half-sisters, Mrs. Marie Weiss of Sardis Rt. 2, and Mrs.
Ella Schmidt, with whom he resided. A
half-sister preceded him in death, Mrs. Alma Luikart on March 23, 1974.
Services were held Tues. at 1:30 p.m. at the Wappner
Funeral Home with Minister Gary Shockley officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

BARTLETT--Homer Oliver Wise, 84, died at 2:15 a.m. today in
his home here.
He was born May 20, 1899, in Monroe County, to George and
Isabelle Miller Wise. He spent most of
his life in the Barlow and Layman communities and had been a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Jackson, whom he married
July 29, 1922; two sons, Daymon Wise of Vincent Rt. 1 and Herman Wise of Cutler
Rt. 1; one daughter, Mrs. James (Betty) Maddox of Barlow; five grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, five
brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in McClure-Schafer
Funeral Home with burial in Valley Cemetery.

a member of First Baptist Church. She
was married Aug. 2, 1909 to George W. Wise who died March 22, 1966.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dwight (Evelyn)
Reynolds, Sanford, Fla.; Mrs. Deloris Benfield, Cornelia, GA and Mrs. Virginia
Johnson, Coquille, Ore; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moster and Sons
Mortuary with Rev. Gary Kirchoff presiding.
Entombment will be in East Hill Shrine Mausoleum. Visitation will be after noon Friday.

Francis J. Zwick, age 75, of
906 Constitution Ave., Louisville passed away Wednesday, May 11 [1983] at
Timken Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Born in Monroe County Dec.
29, 1907 to the late John and Bertha Burkhart Zwick, he had lived in the area
since 1911. He was the owner and operator of the Zwick Builders Co., and worked
as a contractor for 31 years. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and
the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by his wife,
Clara (Sharpnack) of the home; four sons, Francis E., Ernest J., and James L.,
all of Louisville and Richard Kreps of Hacienda, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs.
Clara Kramer of Canton and Mrs. Ida Mae Rothermel of North Canton; five
brothers, John and Homer of Santa Monica, Calif., Ralph of Magnolia, Marion of
Tucson, Ariz., and Harry of Louisville; 13 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a
son, Donald, and three brothers, Roman, Edward, and Clarence.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held Saturday at 10 AM in St. Louis Church with burial in the church
cemetery. Calling hours were Friday at the Paquelet Funeral Home.
