Unsolved
Homicide of Graig W. (Andy) Anderson, Jr. and
Anita
Anderson, Husband & Wife
TRULY
A SHOCKING MYSTERY
The Anderson's story is derived mainly
from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the News Tribune.
Until the evening of May 17th, 1995, the
Anderson's - parents of four and grandparents of seven - spent their last 15
years of winters in Texas managing a 55 acre RV Park and summers managing their
real estate business. Until recently, they hadn't considered the aspects of
retirement or at least slowing the pace down a little.
The two had attended their grandchildren's
Spring Concert at school the evening of May 16th. After the Concert, they were
seen leaving the school, presumed to be driving directly to their home to
retire for the night. The next day there were neither return calls or any
answers to telephone calls to their home. After being missed that day, their
daughter drove to their home concerned for their whereabouts. The bodies of
retired fighter pilot Graig W. "Andy" Anderson, 62, and his wife,
Anita, 60, were found by their daughter and son-in-law that night in the
Andersons' upscale South Hill home in Pallyup, Washington.
Andy and Anita were found together, both
shot in the head multiple times, on the couch in their living room. The police
detective stated that "the victims could have been deceased for 24
hours" suggesting they may have been shot after they arrived home on May
16th from the Spring Concert.
The Anderson's lived in a quiet
neighborhood that had been showcased in the County's first "Street of
Dreams" home show. Like most homes in the Manorwood West subdivision,
their brick two-story home had a stately façade with a professionally
landscaped trimmed lawn. Nothing in the home appeared missing, there was no indication
of any forced entry and no indication of any struggle.
Police have indicated to relatives that
the victims may have known the perpetrator(s). Additionally, the County's
Medical Examiner stated that this type of shooting is a sign of a
"professional hit".
There is a significant reward available on
this case. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call
Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959 or the Puyallup Police
Department tip line at 253-841-5427. Calls will be kept confidential.

At the web site (when I found it in 2014) there was a televised video of
their daughter Deborah Johnson and detectives asking for help in finding the
killers. A $100,000 reward had been
posted.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
*Submitter's Note:
I think that the name "Cumbridge" was a mistake in the listing
here for Joe and Donnie. This obit
lists 5 brothers that predeceased her and four more living. The living do not include brothers Doney
Mercer or Joe Mercer so they must have been the Joe and Donnie listed as
preceding her in death. If they had
been "Cumbridge," the total number of brothers would have had to be
eleven.

Leo, Dorothy Ann Leo, nee Goodheart
Source: newspaper clipping; 3 Jan 1996
On Dec. 29, 1995, Dorothy Ann (Goodheart) Leo passed to the
arms of her precious Lord, the same way that she had lived, surrounded and held
by the people she loved and those who loved and cherished her above all else,
her family.
She died in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Colleen
and Martin Harris of Laurel.
Dorothy (Dot) was born April 4, 1927, to Ervin J. and
Mildred (Miller) Goodheart in Harlem.
She along with her brothers and sisters spent her early years on the
family farm on the Big Flat north of Harlem.
The family moved to town during her teens, where she
graduated from Harlem High School.
During high school she worked as an operator for the local phone company
and after graduation transferred to the Chinook office.
She then married and from this marriage she received what
she called her five greatest gifts from God, her children.
Divorced with five children ages two weeks to six years
old, she returned to Harlem to raise her gifts from God. On Aug. 17, 1959, she married Jim Leo in
Harlem, who with courage and love, joined her in the task of raising their
family. During these lean years they
both worked several jobs at a time to provide for the needs of their
famly. Their courage, unselfishness,
hard work, and self sacrifice have served as an example and an inspiration to
their children.
Over the years countless friends, old and new, and family,
enjoyed her love, company and coffee at her kitchen table. To many, being at Dot's was just like being
at home, and at times, for some even better.
Dot never met a stranger that didn't become an endeared
friend. She had a truly warm and loving
heart that touched old and young alike.
Throughout her life hundreds of children knew her as "Grandma
Dot."
Her loving husband, Jim, preceded her in death in December
of 1981. After her retirement, Dot was
able to do what gave her the greatest pleasure. She traveled constantly to be with her children and her beautiful
and precious grandchildren.
In her spare time she even managed to squeeze in a few
games of bingo. She was a familiar face
to one and all, whether it was at a grandson's basketball game in Shelby, a
granddaughter's swim meet in Roundup, a granddaughter's graduation in Seattle,
or a grandson's graduation in Tennessee.
Throughout her years, to the last day of her life, she
would always make the comment "What did I ever do to deserve such
wonderful children and family?" We
know the answer if she didn't.
It should be the other way around as we told her more than
once, "What did we do to deserve a beautiful mother, grandmother, and
friend like you?" She was her true
humble self to the end. She was a lady
truly blessed who will be missed by more people than we'll be able to count.
Dorothy was active in her community with her church, the
VFW Auxiliary and VFW bowling. She
worked at Buttrey's Food, Kennedy's Bar, the VFW and Tubbs Oil Co. She was always there with a helping hand to
others, and at times, before they were aware that they needed it.
Memorials may be sent to the St. Thomas Catholic Church in
Harlem or the Big Sky Hospice in Billings.
Dorothy is survived by sons, Ervin and daughter-in-law
Marcia Booth of Roundup, Harvey Booth of Gainesville, GA. and Murl and
daughter-in-law Judy Booth of Shelby; daughters Colleen and son-in-law Martin
Harris of Laurel, Bonnie and son-in-law Gary Johnston of Warner Robbins, GA.;
Her very precious grandchildren, Kelsy and Whitney Booth of
Roundup, Shay, Ricci and Nicky Booth of Kent, Wash.; Fred Harris and wife Julie
of Ronan; Rob and Jennifer Booth of Shelby; Brent and Gregory Johnston of
Warner Robbins, GA.; brothers, Swede and his wife Lois Goodheart of Malta; Pete
and his wife Sandi Goodheart of Cape Giardeau, MO;
Sisters Beverly Richman and Shirley Richman, both of
Harlem; Marie and her husband, Earl McCracken of Great Falls and Carol Cornett
of Lodi, TX and many nieces and nephews.
Rosary was recited Tuesday in St. Thomas Catholic Church of
Harlem.
Mass will be today at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Catholic Church
with burial following in the Harlem Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE GAS EXPLOSION KILLS
WOMAN, DESTROYS HOME
A woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured
when a natural gas explosion demolished their ranch home early yesterday,
authorities said.
The body of Florence Morris, described as in her 60s, was
found after a seven-hour search of the debris of her $175,000 home.
Her husband, Charles Morris, 68, suffered multiple injuries
and was listed in guarded condition.
Assistant Fire Chief Andy Wagner said Morris apparently
went outside to check for a gas leak and sent his wife to the kitchen to check.
A spark from the furnace, an electric switch or a water heater may have ignited
gas collecting in the home shortly before 1 a.m., he said.

House explodes
Woman, 67,
killed, husband hurt;
gas leak suspected
By Sharon Turco, Morning
Journal Writer
NORTH RIDGEVILLE --
A 67-year old woman was killed moments after arrviing home from a family
Christmas party when her Otten Road home exploded early yesterday and collapsed
around her.
Florence Morris' husband, Charles Morris, was outside
checking the gas meter at the time of the blast and was critically injured when
the explosion threw him 15 feet, North
Ridgeville Fire Department officials said.
Yesterday investigators spent the day sifting through the
rubble that was once the Morris home.
There wasn't much left except the charred remains of pictures that
neighbors were collecting to save for the family and a lone Christmas wreath in
front of the rubble.
"I knew them for years -- our kids grew up together,
said neighbor Ford Smith. "I just
talked to Chuck. He was so optimistic
telling me about how his wife was in chemotherapy and had whipped the cancer
she had. I can't believe this
happened."
Smith, who was sleeping at the time of the 12:47 a.m.
explosion yesterday, said at first he thought the explosion was in his own
home, but when he opened his door all he could see was a huge fire.
"Chuck's house was gone; it was just a big ball of
fire," Smith said.
Neighbors, many of whom had grown up with the Morris family
and their children and were home visiting for the holidays, ran out to see if
they could help.
"I was just about to turn off the lights when i heard
a huge boom and they went out by themselves," said Calvin Dick, who lives
next door to the Morris'. "I
grabbed my fire extinguisher, but when I ran outside, I saw that my little fire
extinguisher wouldn't do any good.
Charlie's house was almost completely gone."
Florence and Charles had just arrived home from celebrating
Christmas with other family members when they smelled gas, said Assistant Chief
Andy wagner.
Charles, who had just taken out the trash, went to check
the gas meter, while Florence stayed inside to see if the smell was coming from
the kitchen.
Moments later the house exploded, crumbled into the
basement, and erupted into flames.
"We arrived on the scene and the house was totally
collapsed in the basement," Wagner said.
"The walls blew out and then the floor and roof just collapsed into
the foundation."
Charles was blown 15 feet backwards away from the home, and
neighbors heard him calling for help and screaming that his wife was still
inside.
Charles was taken to EMHR Regional Medical Center in Elyria,
and then taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where a hospital
spokeswoman said he was in critical condition last night.
"He had an eye injury, an arm injury and some chest
injuries," Wagner said. His
neighbors thought quickly, and seeing that a greenish yellow gas continued to
pour out of the burning house, neighbors helped Charles escape further harm by
dragging him to the street.
"I lived two houses down," said 17-year-old Rob
Smith. "When I opened the door I
could hear Mr. Morris yelling for help and I ran over to help some of the
neighbors pull him far away from the house."
It took more than seven hours to uncover Florence's body,
said Wagner.
"We had to go slowly, piece by piece, because we knew
there was a victim in the house," Wagner said. "We were there from 12:47 a.m. until 11 a.m."
Lorain County Coroner Paul Matus said the cause of death
was incineration.
"She died almost instantaneously," Matus said.
Neighbors who were caroling Christmas night passed by 3855
Otten Road because the Morris' were not home, but they did notice the unusual
smell of gas in the air.
At the time they didn't think anything of it, but when they
were awakened by an explosion early yesterday, the pieces came together.
"All the way down the street we could smell an awful
smell, like sewer and gas," said Rachel Whitsel, 14, who was caroling with
neighbors.
The cause of the explosion is believed to be a gas leak,
said Wagner, But Columbia Gas officials said it hasn't been determined.
"We're still investigating," said Tom Hauck, a
spokesman for Columbia Gas. "We're
working with the local fire depertment [sic], but it appears to be from
a gas leak in the service line, which is the line from the street into the
house."
Columbia Gas workers checked out the area for other leaks,
but didn't find anything, according to Hauck.
But that was little comfort to some neighbors.
"The fire department may say it's OK now," said
Pete Gadus, who lives at 38548 Otten, which is directly across the street from
the Morris'. "But I had a similar
fire this past summer."
A fire erupted July 31 in Gadus home. Although the fire department hasn't
confirmed a cause, Gadus said he suspects a gas leak.

Toledo, and the Press Club of Toledo.
Mr. Mueller was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and

Fayette. In 1941, after attending the Sevendi Corps Area West Point Preparatory'
School at Ft. Snelling, MI, he earned a National Guard appointment to the U.S.
Military Academy.
Buck, as his classmates called him, adjusted easily to
West Point. A classmate wrote in the Howitzer, Buck was one of those men who
didnt worry too much about being military. Not indifferent, he just took
things in stride. One of the few who could whistle at Reveille during Gloom
Period, he always got a laugh out of life. Buck will always be a valuable asset
to whatever outfit hes with. As a cadet, Dixon participated in the camera and
squash clubs.
Upon graduation on 6 Jun 1944, Dixon was commissioned into
the Infantry. After completion of the basic course at Ft. Benning, he joined
the 222d Infantry of the 42d Division and served with that organization through
the end of WWII in Germany and Austria.
After the war, he remained with the division in Austria,
where he met a WAC lieutenant named Thelma M. Tommie Thompson who became my
wife in 1948. They married on Tommies birthday, 29 Jul 1948, at Ft. Benning,
GA, where Dixon was attending the Infantry Officers Advanced Course.
In subsequent assignments he was witii the 14th Infantry at
Ft. Carson, CO, had a stay in Alaska, and served in the Korean War during which
he was wounded.
After recovering, Dixon had assignments at Ft. Ord, CA;
Phoenix, AZ; the 4th Division in Germany; the French First Army; Saudi Arabia;
Omaha, NE; Ft. Leavenworth, KS; and finally, in 1963, back to Ft. Benning on
the staff and faculty of the Infantry School.
He wrote in the Class 30-Year Book, In that tour a love
for teaching was discovered and the decision was made for a final move to
become a junior high and high school teacher.
So, in 1965, LTC Rogers retired from a military career
during which he had served in two wars and earned die [sic--the] Legion
of Merit, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army
Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
In 1967, Dixon received a grant from the National Science
Foundation, which enabled him to earn a master of natural science degree from
the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.
He went on to serve on the faculties of Central Methodist
College and Boonville, Knob Noster, Brunswick, and Harrisburg High Schools, all
in the Fayette vicinity.
He maintained his military affiliation, serving in the 42nd
Rainbow Division Association as Legislator, Committee Chairman, and National
President. He enjoyed working the family farm. Photography was another of his
interests.
Tommie died on 15 Jun 1994. Dixon died on 19 Jun 1995. He
was preceded in death by his father and his youngest brother Clyde.
He is survived by his mother; his sisters Sarah Borg and Martha
Hollman, of Fayette; and his brodier [sic--brother] Dan of Deerwood, MD.
He also is survived by his children Sarah, Dixon II, Dan and his wife Karen
Westhoff, and grandchildren Amanda Marie Morrow, Emily Fern Morrow, Steven Lee
Morrow, Carle Michael Rogers, Carle David Rogers, Laura Elizabeth Rogers, Brett
Daniel Rogers, and Bethany Jean Rogers.
Dixon took great pride in serving our country, community,
and family. To say I am proud of the contributions made by the men and women
with whom my father served would only be a starting point. It is because of him
that I am serving in the military. Like my father, I also was enlisted, a
member of the Active Duty Army, Missouri and Soudi [sic--South] Dakota
National Guard, received my commission from Ft. Benning, and now serve in the
Air Force as a judge advocate. I fully expect to follow his footsteps into
retirement and teaching.
Always challenging and questioning, a simple yes or no
never satisfied him unless it was the answer he was giving.
