TELL CITY - Agnes
(Simpson) Elder died, November 18, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Linda Kemker,
in Kokomo, Indiana. Agnes was born in Tell City on April 19, 1920, to the late
William F. and Bertha S. (Jarboe) Simpson.
She married Herman J. "Joe" Elder on April 27,
1940, who passed away on August 23, 1985. Also preceding her in death were
brothers, Owen "Bunny", Ralph and Paul Simpson, sister, Catherine
Mansfield, and a great-grandson, Matthew Jones.
Agnes graduated from Tell City High School in 1938 and
worked in Tell City during the time her husband served in the U.S. Army during
World War II. When he returned from service they moved to Evansville and later
moved to Kokomo, where both were employed at the Kokomo Post Office. She
retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1982.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Kemker* and her husband,
Bill, of Kokomo; a son, Don and his wife, Sue, of Austin, Texas; two brothers,
Leo K. and Franklin T. Simpson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in
Kokomo and attended Mass daily as long as she was physically able to do so.
Funeral services were held in Kokomo on November 20, 2007,
with burial in Crown Point Cemetery in Kokomo.

TOMPKINSVILLE — David Morris “Possum” Emmert, 71, of
Tompkinsville died Oct. 30, 2007, at his residence.
The Monroe County native was born Oct. 22, 1936. He was a
Korean War Army veteran and formerly worked at General Electric Appliance Park
in Louisville. He was a son of the late Rasmus H. Emmert and Lottie Ella Tooley
Emmert. He was preceded in death by a brother, John V. Emmert.
Funeral is at 2 p.m. Friday at Strode Funeral Home, with
burial in Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. today at the funeral
home.
Survivors include two sisters, Anna
Jean Thompson of Tompkinsville and Evelyn Pitcock of Indianapolis; three
brothers, Reed Emmert of Pekin, Ind., and R.H. Emmert and Wayne Emmert, both of
Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

with Equitable Insurance for

Army Core of Engineers to pay a significant amount of the initial costs for
installation followed with regular partial payment for line maintenance. These
payments were monthly cost savings for the residence in Clarington on their
sewage bill.

in the service of the nation, where he was rewarded the Purple Heart as a hero
for saving lives in the Philippines, he lived an honest and conservative life
with beliefs resulting in the preservation of the town of Clarington and the

Sylvester F. Gauding 88 of Ravenna
died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Altercare Nursing Home in Ravenna.
He was born September 20, 1918 in
Ravenna to the late Frederick W. and Frances E. (Schindler) Gauding. He was aSupervisor and Tool Room Foreman for
RBW and Lamson & Sessions in Kent.
A lifelong Ravenna resident, a member of the Ravenna First United
Methodist Church, Young at Heart at Immaculate Conception Church, he had
coached Little League Baseball and was on the Ravenna Township and Ravenna City
School Boards. He enjoyed carpentry and going fishing with his family. He loved
his family farm he purchased in 1949 in Sardis, Ohio that has been in the
family for 130 years.
Survivors include his daughters Joyce
Harris of Kent and Suzanne (Paul) Moskun of Ravenna, sons Jerry (Betty) of Atwater,
Dwaine (Marcia) of KY and James (Krystal) of Atwater, 12 grandchildren, 16
great grandchildren, brother Wilbert C. of Ravenna and longtime close friend
Lillian Bereck of Ravenna and her children and grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his wife Kathleen in 1987.

GOODRICH, Robert E. "Bob," 75, of Mingo Junction,
Ohio, passed away Wednesday morning, September 26, 2007, at his home after a
courageous battle with cancer.
He was born February 25, 1932, in Brilliant, Ohio, a son of
the late John O. and Zona M. (Hartman) Goodrich.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
brother, John "Wes" Goodrich.
Bob retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel as a blast
furnace millwright. He was also a
police office and director of auxiliary for the Village of Mingo.
He served the U.S.N.R. and the U.S.A.F. during the Korean
War. He was a member of the Disabled
American Veterans; the American Legion Post 573 in Brilliant; a life member of
the G.K.L. Wildlife Association; and a member of the Mingo First United
Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Powers) Goodrich
whom he married March 1, 1972; six children, Aaron J. (Nancy) Goodrich of North
Augusta, S.C., Robert K. (Lisa) Goodrich of Mingo Junction, Susan L. Goodrich
of Mesa, Ariz., William G. (Angie) Goodrich, Joseph E. (Mary) Goodrich and
Angela S. Looman, all of Mingo Junction; and nine grandchildren, Christopher,
Matthew, Stephen, Brooke, Tyler, Cory, Austin, Shayla and Taylor.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101
Longview Ave., Mingo Junction, on Friday from 2-4 and 6 until the time of his
funeral services at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Thomas officiating.

GALESBURG - Marcus R. Greek, 49, the son of a Galesburg
man, died of natural causes on Wednesday, March 7, 2007. He was alone in his
residence in Palatine, Ill., at the time of his death.
Marc had many acquaintances, some friends and regarded
adversaries as colleagues. He believed in Peace. All of his life Marc was a
voracious, eclectic reader. At the time of his death he was reading a book on
game design, a book on the stock market and the "Complete Works of Robert
Service." The computer was his window to the world.
Marc was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on Aug. 19, 1957, the eldest
son of Ronald B. and Elaine Nichols Greek. He attended Illinois public schools
in Eureka and Roanoke-Benson, graduating from RBHS in 1975. After working as a
laborer for two years he enrolled at Knox College, where he developed an
interest in geology. At the University of Montana, he completed his
undergraduate degree in geology in 1986. He then enrolled in graduate studies
in geology at the University of Illinois-Chicago for three years. After working
as a laboratory technician for several years he became a computer
programmer/analyst, last working in November 2006.
He is survived by his father, Ron (Judy) of Galesburg,
Ill.; two brothers, Matt (Carol) of Houston, Texas, and Milt (Connie) of
Athens, Ohio; two stepsisters, Julie (Tony) Tonn of Davenport, Iowa, and Jenny
Marshall of Peoria, Ill.; two nephews, Ben (Lauren) Greek of Pensacola, Fla.,
and Andy Greek of Lubbock, Texas; a niece, Emily Tonn; an uncle, Adrian Greek
of Portland, Ore.; his grandmother, Eleanor Nichols of Kahoka, Mo.; and many
cousins.
His mother passed away in February 2005.
Services will be private, with interment in a
Galesburg/Knoxville cemetery.

Born March 21, 1922 in Barnesville to the late George
Wilbur and Martha Burr Bunting, she was a graduate of Summerfield High School
and was retired from NCR in Cambridge and Essex Wire in Zanesville. She married
Ernest Haga Sr. on April 11, 1936, was a member of the Caldwell United
Methodist Church and served as former secretary of the VFW Auxiliary of
Caldwell.
She is survived by a son, Ernest B. (Vicki) Haga Jr. of
Caldwell; sister Gertrude Passwaters of Zanesville; two grandsons, Shawn
(Jessie) Haga of Columbus and Michael Haga of Caldwell; granddaughter Heather

"Wil" Wilfred D. "Wil" Hanley, age 71,
of Carpentersville died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
Wil was born in Palatine, Illinois on February 2, 1936. He was the son of the
late Roy and Bessie (nee Schlichter) Hanley. On May 19, 1956 Wil married his
childhood sweetheart Elizabeth "Ann" DeVore. Wil worked in custom
livery his entire career having worked for H&M Limousine for 12 years and
then owning and operating Midwest Limousine Service. He was a member of the
Dundee Lodge A.F. and A.M. for 47 years. In earlier years, Wil was very active
in Cub, Boy and Explorer Scouting.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Ann; his
sons, Mitchell (Lisa) Hanley of East Dundee and Timothy Hanley of
Carpentersville; his seven grandchildren, Shannon and Patrick Hanley of East
Dundee, Jennifer Hanley of Algonquin, Jeremy Hanley of Carpentersville, Joshua
Hanley of Minnesota, Jessica (Matthew) Bachiochi and Daniel Hanley both of
Arizona. Wil is also survived by his great-grandson, Cade Hanley of Minnesota;

Cline Harmon. He retired in 1982 from
the River Gas Company in Belpre. He was a veteran of WWII in which he served
under General Patton’s Third Army as a Sergeant with the U.S. Army and fought
at The Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge for over
50 years, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Shrine.

Brown
County man dies in car accident Sunday

A Brown County man died as a result of
injuries he sustained in one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning, October 28.
Sean Harris, 38, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving by ambulance
to Columbus Regional Hospital.
According to the Brown County Sheriff's
Department, speed appeared to be a factor in the 4:30 a.m. crash about four
miles north of Nashville on State Road 135 North.
Mr. Harris, who lived on Old Haggard
Road, was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled, a sheriff's department report
indicated, and was conscious when police and rescuers arrived.
The accident remains under investigation,
the sheriff's concluded. Deputy Scott Bowling was the investigating officer.

Marshall Newton Hasson died September
11, 2007 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born May 29, 1942 in
Mr. Hasson’s knowledge of early rock
n roll music was phenomenal, and he was proud of his son’s musical ability as a
guitar player, as well as his naval service and position with the US Postal
Service. He took great interest in his daughter’s softball training before and
during her high school years, and encouraged her determination to become an RN.

Gerald R. "Gary" Heckman, 60 years, of
Waterville, Ohio and formerly of Toledo, Perrysburg, and Slidell, Louisiana, died
Thursday, December 6, 2007, in his son's Waterville residence. He was born on
June 13, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Virgil Heckman, Sr. and Anabel
Ghaster Heckman. Gary graduated from Rogers High School in 1966 and was also
the Ohio State high school champion wrestler in 1966. He served in the US Army
in the Viet Nam War, and spent most of his working life as a welder and truck
mechanic for various firms. He was a member of the Slidell, Louisiana Post of
the American Legion and a long-time former member of the Whitehouse Post,
American Legion. In addition to his wrestling career, Gary was known for his
sense of humor, his love of Ohio State sports, attending the Milan drag races,
and barbequing. Most of all he loved the time spent with his grand-children,
his family and his friends.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and
Jennifer Heckman and grandson, Zachary of Waterville, OH; his daughter, Amanda
Houk and grand-daughters, Samantha, Abigail, and Sydney of Slidell, LA; his daughter,
Kerry Heckman and granddaughter, Jamie of Beverly, MA; his brother, Virgil, Jr.
and wife, Darlene Heckman, and his brother, Francis Heckman, both of Toledo,

LOWELL -- Maria N. Hinton, 84, lifelong resident of Lowell,
died Saturday (June 2, 2007) at the Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Marietta, to John Clifford
and Pearl Marie Irwin Norris. She had
worked as a teller at Peoples Banking & Trust Company for more than 22
years, retiring in 1988. Maria was a
1940 graduate of Lowell High School.
She was a member of the Lowell United Methodist Church and the Lydia
Circle. She also was a member of
Eastern Star 272 in Lowell, where she was a past worthy matron. In 2003 Maria was chosen as resident of the
year for Marietta Center and then represented the center at the health fair at
the Grand Central Mall.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Lent and Bruce of
Lowell, and Mary Jane Hinton and Jeff Barnes of Midway, Ga.; a son, John F.
Hinton and Becky of St. Marys, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren,
and two sisters, Helen Norris and Elizabeth Zimmerman, both of Circleville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Michael P.
Hinton Sr., on May 9, 2007; a brother, Francis I. Norris, and an infant

Wednesday evening in the Affinity Medical Center Doctors Campus following a
brief illness. Born in Canton, Ohio on July 4, 1923 he was the son of the late
Ray S. and Marie (Muehlheim) Hough. He was a 1942 graduate of Canton Township
High School and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

11:00 am Thursday March 1, 2007 at her home.
Delores was born March 13, 1935 in Ranger, Indiana daughter
of the late Clyde Sandage and Mary E. (Betty) Cassidy Bolin Schroeder.
After attending Tell City
High School, she married Curt Jarboe April 18, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in
Magnet. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post #
213 Auxiliary and the Red Hot Sassy Lassies Club. Delores retired from
Parker-Hannafin in Tell City in 1998 after 35 years. She enjoyed attending her
grandchildrens' sporting events, quilting, tole painting, crafting, water
gardening and embroidery.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Curt Jarboe;
one daughter, Cathy Hammack and her husband Dan, Tell City, Indiana; three

bears and roosters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James

maternal grandparents, Clarence and Nellie Swonger, and her paternal grandparents, Roy and
Anna DeVault.
In addition to her mother, Marsha is survived by her
brother, Michael (Danielle) DeVault of Uhrichsville, and her sister, Marty
DeVault and her companion, Jim Shoup of Dennison; four nieces, Mia and Marissa

Susan Genelle Kaster of Plymouth, Indiana, formerly of Lake
County, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2007. She was the
daughter of Harold and Leah Grier of Marion, Indiana Susan attended Indiana
University where she met and married her husband of 43 years, the Rev. William
R. Kaster, on September 6, 1964. Susan received her Bachelor's and Master's in
social work from Valparaiso University. She served the children of Portage
Township Schools in Portage, Indiana, and the East Noble Schools in
Kendallville, Indiana. She was a counselor for RISE services in Angola,
Indiana, and the Northeastern Center in Kendallville, Indiana. Her devoted
service to children was also expressed through Special Olympics, Royal Family
Kids Camp, and the School of Christian Missions. Her legacy of service will be
remembered by her community and her family: William (husband and father) and
their four children, Mary Kaster of Sebastopol, California, Michael and his
wife Daniell Kaster of Indianapolis, Indiana, Peter Kaster of Plymouth, Indiana

Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2007) at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus,

He was born on Dec.
15, 1946, in Marietta to Gerald and Ruth Morris Kehl. Deane graduated from St.
Mary's High School in Marietta, Class of 1964. He is a Vietnam veteran, having
served in the United States Navy. Deane had worked for Fenton Art Glass and
with his father in the aluminum siding business. Later he had worked at
Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was a member of VFW Post 5108 and was an avid
hunter.

She was preceded in death by her husband,
Ted A. Kehl, on March 25, 2001; they were married on March 23, 1944. She was

Loyd Vernon Kelley, 60, of Mineral Wells passed away May
20, 2007, at his residence.
He was born in Parkersburg on June 21, 1946, a son of the
late William B. Kelley and Ruth A. Starcher Kelley. He was retired from Cytec
and was a Vietnam veteran with the U.S. Air Force 554 Red Horse Division.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jane Kelley of
Mineral Wells; daughter, Wendy Delano of Salem, Va.; son, Jeremy Kelley;
sister, Vera Hopkins; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker and attended Scotland United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Linda

Christy Paul Kinkade, 88, died Monday, July 16, 2007.
He is the last surviving member of his family and was
preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and daughter-in-law, Lily
Kinkade.
He was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church where
he served as trustee, board chairman, treasurer, and teacher. He was a charter member
of Rye Valley Ruritan Club, served one term on the Smyth County Board of
Supervisors and was past chairman of Mt. Rogers District Planning Commission
and the State Planning Commission. He was raised in Missouri and graduated from
Truman University. He retired from Brunswick Corporation in 1981; and he
enjoyed farming as a secondary career.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lucille Griffitts
Kinkade of Sugar Grove; son, Richard Paul Kinkade of Taos, N.M.; daughter and
son-in-law, Jane and Charles Smith of Green Valley, Ariz.; granddaughters,
Virginia Smith of Charlotte, N.C., and Katherine Smith of Oakland, Calif.; and
one sister-in-law, Mildred Kinkade; and several, cousins, nieces, and nephews
also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 11
a.m. at Elizabeth United Methodist Church in Teas with the Rev. Mike Ward

Lily R.
Kinkade, 57, of Des Montes, passed away on March 21. She is survived by her
husband Richard P. Kinkade; parents-in-law, C.P. and Lucy Kinkade of Sugar
Grove, Virginia; sister and brother-inlaw, Chuck and Jane Smith of Green
Valley, Arizona; and her many devoted friends and colleagues at Taos Ski
Valley.
A
native of the Bronx, she moved to Taos in 1980 after a one-week ski vacation in
Taos Ski Valley inspired her to leave her career as a legal secretary in New
York City. Lily never regretted the move, for as much as she missed her
Sicilian “sopresot” (sopressata) and “mutzarelle” (Mozzarella) from Arthur
Avenue's Italian delis, she found something in Taos she loved even more: her
husband Dick. She began her career at Taos Ski Valley, Inc. as Ernie Blake's
personal secretary and worked for him until his death in 1989. She then worked
as the office manager another ten years before moving into the accounting
department where she advanced to corporate controller. The passing of such a
central member of the Ski Valley family will be felt deeply as both a personal
and a professional loss. She had many interests in addition to skiing. She was
an avid reader, talented quilter, knitter, beader and an aspiring pianist. One
of her finest talents was her ability to teach herself new things. She was
always generous with her both knowledge gladly teaching others the new
technologies and skills she had mastered and the product of her efforts, as
those who own and cherish a Lily Kinkade quilt can attest. She was a devout
catlover, and her Maine Coons, Filigree and Sheva, will be among those who miss
her most. Lily and Dick received a great deal of emotional and daily living
support over the final few months of Lily's life from friends and family far
and near, and Dick conveys his heartfelt thanks to one and all.
A
memorial service celebrating Lily will be held at Taos Ski Valley on Saturday,
April 7 at 5 pm in the Resort Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be

Saturday, December 1, 2007, at his home.
He was born April 8, 1923, in Ramsey, Ohio, a son of the
late John Kovach, Sr. and Anna Kubick Kovach.
John was a retired coal miner with North American Coal
Company’s Number 3 mine at Pipe Creek.
He was a member of the Amity United Methodist Church,
Steinersville; a member of the Weyer Lodge No. 541 F & AM and Order of
Eastern Star Weyer Chapter No. 515, both of Centerville; life member of the VFW
Post 5565 and American Legion Post 228, both of Powhatan Point; and the United
Mine Workers of America.
John was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was
awarded five Bronze Stars.

addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret A.
Harper Kovach on November 8, 2002; three sisters, Bruni Muticik, Mary Brown and
Frances Kryston.
Surviving
are six children, Lorna Pyles and her husband, Junior, of Sardis, Ohio, Donna
Goudy and her husband, Harold, of Oberlin, Ohio, Roger Kovach and his wife,
Mary Lou, of Powhatan Point, Lula McCann and her husband, Larry, of Powhatan
Point, Kay Armann and her husband, Sam, of Powhatan Point, and Sherry Krieg and
her husband, Mark, of Jacobs burg, Ohio; one sister, Amelia Reynolds of
Powhatan Point; one brother-in-law, George Kryston of Blaine, Ohio; one
sister-in-law, Olive Taylor of Dresden, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grand
children; and several nieces and nephews.

DONALD L. KRONING lost his valiant battle
to live longer than Methuselah on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the age of 93.
Born in the Houston heights on
February 8, 1914 to John A. and Nellie Florence Kroning, Donald was the
youngest of seven children. Donald was a native Houstonian and graduated from
Reagan High School in 1931. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII
in the Quarter Master Corp. He was involved in protecting Allied gasoline
supplies during the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, he worked
for Thompson-White Lumber Company and went on to become a successful
self-employed contractor repairing FHA homes all over the Houston area. Donald
was a loving husband and father who always put his family first. His hobbies
included woodworking and gardening. He had a great sense of humor that was
maintained to his final days.
Preceded in death by his first wife of
fifty years and the mother of his children, Margaret McIntire Kroning, and his
second wife, Ruth Droegemueller Kroning, Donald is survived by daughters, Donna
Kroning of Pearland and Nancy A. Kroning of Manvel. He is also survived by
nephews, Robert C. McIntire of Austin and Roger C. Kroning, Jr. of Houston;
nieces, Betty Jean Brogdon of Midway and Jessie Lindley* of Eugene, Oregon; and
his special canine companion, Molly Mutt.
His family would like to thank Pastor
Donald Black from Trinity Lutheran Church; The Methodist Hospital, Kindred
Hospital Medical Center, especially physical therapists Ernie and Maria; TIRR
Hospital and the Hospice Care Team of Lake Jackson for their professionalism
and excellent care. Friends
are invited to visit with the family from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday,
October 28, 2007 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer. A
service to celebrate Donald's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday,
October 29, 2007 in the chapel of Forest Park Westheimer. Interment will follow
in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
