(July 26, 1941 - September
15, 2008)
On September 15, 2008 at 5:37 in the morning, the Lord called
home His good and faithful servant, Wayne W. Haines, unexpected to his family,
but according to the Lord’s perfect will.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday in the Haller
Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Huntington Township Cemetery. Friends may
call 1-3 and 6-9 Thursday at Haller’s.
Wayne was born July 26, 1941 in Beallsville, OH to Lucille
Brown Harper and Forest E. Haines Sr. He is survived by his loving and devoted
wife of 49 years, Carole E. Cutright Haines, whom he married on October 24,
1959. In addition to his wife and his mother, survivors include his three
children, Robin (Jeff Vickers) Snyder, Terri (Samuel) Eldridge, and Randall
(Marilyn) Haines, all of Chillicothe; bringing him joy in the later years of
his life were his ten grandchildren; Lindsay, Jeffrey, Leah, Jonah, Chelsey,
John, Seth, Zachary, Nicholas and Natalie. Also surviving are his brothers
and sisters, Forest Haines, Mary Jo Proehl, Brenda Wood, Karen Detillian, Mike,
Tom, and Joseph Haines, Jan Binkowski, Maranda Irwin and Inis Ruth; his
step-mother, Margaret Cokonougher. He was preceded in death by his father and his
step-father, Emerson Harper.
Wayne’s life exemplified his commitment to God, family, civic
leadership, community, and education. Through a lifetime of discipleship and
devotion to the Lord, Wayne served in eldership and trustee positions at
Huntington Chapel Christian Union and Bethel Chapel Christian Union as well as
serving as God’s laborer in the construction of both churches. He also served
the larger Christian Union community as the Treasurer for the National General
Council, as well as Ohio Second District Moderator.
Beginning with his
first appointment to the Huntington Local School Board of Education in 1971,
Wayne discovered a passion for civic leadership that led to many years of
service to the Huntington Township people as a local school board member for
six years, the Ross Co. Board of Education for five years, and twenty-four
years as the Fiscal Officer (Clerk) for Huntington Township.
During Wayne’s life, he served on the 1971 inaugural
high school football committee, co-founded the Huntington Youth League in 1972,
and started Huntington T-Ball program in 1973. He had served as score keeper
and clock keeper for both girls and boys athletic teams, and made, installed,
and maintained the high school track record boards hanging in the high school
gymnasium. In addition, Wayne, also built the original baseball diamond at the
Huntington Athletic Complex, and served as the Huntington Athletic Boosters
President from 1968-1972. More recently, he was the originator of the
Huntington Hall of Fame and served as a committee member since its inception.
He was honored to have received the Distinguished Athletic Service Award,
presented by the committee in 2004. A lasting legacy to Wayne was begun in
1988, with the establishment of the Haines Scholarship. It has been awarded to
Huntington High School graduates attending Ohio University-Chillicothe for 20
years.
After 43 years of employment at the Chilpaco Paper Mill,
Wayne retired in 2002 as an electrician. During employment he had the privilege
of serving on the committee that developed all aspects of the Mead, now
Glatfelter, Family Medical Center and he continued to serve as the Chairman of
the advisory panel for the center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Haines Scholarship
Fund, in care of Homeland Credit Union, or sent to Huntington Middle School, in
care of Terri Eldridge, Chair.

the family farm south of Nodaway, IA. Iola was the daughter of William (Bill) Orme
and Rosena (Moser) Orme. She grew up attending the Nodaway Public School. While
in high school, Iola sang in the choir, played the piano, and filled in for
teachers who were absent. She also taught school in rural Adams County after
graduation. On December 25, 1946, Iola was united in marriage to Russell Paul
Hedinger at the Nodaway United Methodist Church. Two children were born to
bless this union, Susan Elaine and Lonnie Gene.
Russell and Iola farmed in Adams
County all of their married lives. Iola was a 'true farmer's wife' and worked
with Russell on the farm, enjoying the lifestyle farming provided their family.
They loved attending church together and working in the garden. Iola taught
piano lessons to several neighborhood children. She also taught Sunday school
and Bible school. Iola spent many hours canning and freezing the produce from
the family garden. She also loved being active in politics. Iola had been a
member of the IAn's for Moral education; Christian Coalition; and the Republican
Party. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Left to
cherish Iola's memory are her two children, daughter, Susan Lantz and husband
Richard of Shenandoah; son, Lonnie Hedinger and wife Lorna of Nodaway; granddaughter
Angela Lantz Fox and husband Dan of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Christopher Lantz
and wife Jana of Kansas City, MO; great-granddaughters, Olivia Fox and Kate
Lantz; and a great-grandson, Ty Lantz.
Preceding Iola in death are her parents, Bill and Rosena
Orme; her loving husband Russell Hedinger in 1999; and infant
great-granddaughter, Riley Fox; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and
Vonnie Hedinger.
Although Iola will be greatly missed, her love and
inspiration will live on through her family.

Vonnie
Virgene (Johnston) Hedinger was born October 5, 1922, on a farm near Mount
Etna, the daughter of David Johnston and Geneva (Westfall) Johnston. She grew
up attending rural schools, graduating from the Corning High School with the
Class of 1940. She then attended the University of Northern IA in Cedar Falls,
graduating with a Normal Teacher Training Certificate in 1947. Vonnie taught in
the primary grades in both Corning and Bedford rural schools, staying with
various families in the area. During this time, Vonnie spent a great deal of
time with her sister Daily. Most people thought they were more like twins than
just sisters! Vonnie accepted a position in Corning to teach at the new Craft
building, a move that made it possible for her to be near her mother. On
December 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Albert John Hedinger in Mount
Etna, Iowa.
Vonnie
was active in her church teaching Sunday school and Bible School for many
years. She attended the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church until its closing, she
and Albert then returned to the church she attended as a child, Church of the
Brethren, where she was still a member. Vonnie was also a member of the
Knitting Club. She was a dedicated, perfectionist seamstress, sewing her own
wedding dress and creating over 100 Care Bears! She also loved to raise a large
garden, canning the produce and sharing them with her family and friends.
Vonnie took great pride in her family and grandchildren. She was known for her
many crafts, along with her collection of cookbooks and sewing supplies.
Left
to cherish Vonnie's memory is a daughter, Kristy Richards and husband Allen of
Corning; a son, Jeff Hedinger and wife Becky of Corning; grandsons, Adam and
Andrew Hedinger; step-grandchildren, Doug and Missy Richards; Susan and Joe
Brown and Curtis Richards; a step-great-grandson, Bryce; two sisters, Daily
Allison and husband Darrel; and Eunice Beck; two sister-in-laws, Naomi Johnston
and Iola Hedinger; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Vonnie in death were her parents and in-laws; her husband
Albert in 2005; three sisters, Alma Livingston, Aletha Johnston and Gladys
Bickford; two brothers, Marvin Johnston and Millard Johnston; four brother-in-laws,
Russell Livingston, David Beck, Kenneth Bickford and Russell Hedinger; a
sister-in-law, Wilma Johnston; four nephews, Richard Johnston, Duane Johnston,
Jimmy Bickford and Gilbert Woodburn; and a niece, Carol Williams.
Vonnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and
teacher. Her enthusiasm, humor, insight
and gentle kindness will be missed by everyone.
