Fox, Dolores (Lori) Fox, nee Dahl

Source:  www.funeralhomesmith.com; 16 Sep 2009

Dolores (Lori) Fox passed away on 09/12/09 after a year long battle with cancer.

Lori was born 05/10/42 in Sunnyside to David and Ellen Dahl. She attended Outlook and Sunnyside schools graduating from Sunnyside High in 1960.

She married her longtime Sunnyside sweetheart, Robert (Bob) L. Fox Sr. on July 9th, 1960. They had 49 years together and continued to be sweethearts throughout their marriage. They resided in the Yakima Valley their entire lives except for a short time they spent in San Francisco while Bob finished his time with the United States Marines.

Lori attended Beauty College and received her beautician license. She went on to co-own a beauty salon and also worked in various other salons.

Not long before she was diagnosed with cancer she was operating a salon at an assisted living facility. She really enjoyed being of service to the women and also to some of the men that resided there. To her it was a mission of love and caring to many who were forgotten.

For many years Lori enjoyed painting ceramics. If someone happened to admire a piece of her work she very often would give the piece to that person. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made many afghans, dish cloths and checkerboard slippers which we all enjoyed. She had a green thumb like nobody else and could revive houseplants that only had a stem with one leaf. She loved to plant flowers in the spring and her flowers would last clear into the fall months.

Jake lived in Canton most of his life, retiring from Republic Steel in 1981 after 42 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and loved to cook especially stuffed peppers. We traveled together to many places when I was growing up. My dad loved sports, baseball and football especially. My dad loved to talk and tell stories from the good ole days, my dad traveled all over the US before marrying my mom. I will remember my dad as a strong willed, self made man, that always made me feel safe and secure. His rough exterior, sometimes harsh ways, were nothing compared to his soft gentle side that could put a smile on my face anything. My parents took care of numerous foster children throughout their lives and were the most loving, generous, caring and hard working people that I knew and our hearts will mourn their absence. I was blessed to be adopted, loved and nurtured by these wonderful souls. Jake lost his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary (Marna) Hackathorn, April 9, 1997 and missed her terribly. Also preceded in death by his brother, Chester and sister, Ruth.

The family wishes to thank, Andrea, Rhonda, Darlene, Dr. Drumm and all the wonderful people who helped make my dad more comfortable. Special thanks to very special cousin, Clarence Guest for all of the trips to the doctor and caring help and the VA, and Dr. Rafiques office and Aultman Hospital.

        * This name was also seen spelled as GLEN on the 1940 census, the United States Public Record Index and the Social Security Death Index.

**  The original marriage application, license and minister’s return or endorsement documents photographed and posted on the wvculture.org web site shows the marriage on June 15.  It did make me smile to note that she  did fudge her age by a few years on that marriage application, stating that she was 21.
