Rural   Linton   man   killed   in   dirt   bike   crash

By Nick Schneider, Assistant Editor

A 24-year-old rural Linton man was killed in a dirt bike crash late Thursday night at the intersection of 9th and C Streets on the southwest end of Linton.

Jordan Moore was not identified as the victim until early Friday afternoon.

Greene County Sheriff Terry Pierce said the identification process was prolonged because the victim was not carrying any identification and the dirt bike did not have a license plate.

Pierce said Moore's body was discovered at approximately 11:10 p.m. Thursday by Indiana Rail Road Company employees along its track located just off of 9th Street SW.

The area is just outside the Linton city limits.

Railroad employees notified the sheriff's department and deputies were dispatched along with rescue personnel.

The exact time the accident occurred is unknown but Pierce noted that neighbors in the area reported hearing a loud dirt bike about 10 p.m.

After a positive identification was confirmed and family members were notified, Sheriff's Lt. Bryan Woodall released more information on the accident.

Moore was operating a Suzuki 125 dirt bike southbound on Linton's 9th Street SW which comes to a T-intersection where one must turn onto C Street SW or run into the railroad tracks and property.

Woodall said Moore did not make the turn, but officers found skid marks on the scene indicating he had hit the brakes.

Moore's bike continued through the intersection and down over an embankment.

Moore was pronounced dead on the scene of internal injuries sustained in the accident.

Woodall said several officers were involved in the investigation and it was Officer Debbie McDonald of the Linton Police Department who was able to determine Moore's identity.
