Nathan Sabo, 36, born and raised in Sarasota, passed away
in his sleep early last Saturday morning at home.
After marriage, Nathan moved to Ohio with his new bride,
Sheila. He was an entrepreneur, businessman and pilot. Nathan loved traveling
and meeting new people.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila; children Nathan, Heidi,
Douglas and Clara; parents Douglas and Linda; brothers Jeffrey and Christopher;
and sister Melissa Sabo Miller.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at
Apostolic Christian Church, Sarasota, where he was a member. Visitation will be
held Tuesday at 9 a.m. until the service time at the church. Arrangements by
Palms-Robarts Funeral Home.

Helen Peklo Sabol, age 86, of
Lewisville, Ohio died Monday April 18, 2011 at the Woodsfield Nursing &
Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio July 20, 1924
a daughter of the late Stanley & Mary Myslavetz Peklo.
Helen was preceded in death
by her husband; Steve Sabol May 3, 1983 who was a retired Tool and Die maker in
Cleveland, and also one brother; Stanley Peklo.
She is survived by two
daughters; Linda (Larry) Drake of Woodsfield, and Carol Reed of Lewisville, one
granddaughter; Tiffany (Michael) Roth of Woodsfield, one grandson; Steven
Canter of Summerfield, 3 great-grandsons; Russell, Gage, & Remington Roth,
one great granddaughter; Sara Canter and one sister; Ann Ciepiel of Arkansas.
In keeping with her wishes,
Helen will be cremated.
A memorial Service will be
held at a later date at the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Woodsfield,
Ohio.

ASHLAND -- Roger H. Saffle,
67, of Ashland, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at Cleveland Metro Hospital. He was born March 6, 1944, in Clarington,
the son of Howard E. and Harriett A. Melott Saffle.
He graduated from Ashland
High School in 1963 and was a fiber optic technician for 20 years at Quest
Communications and 16 years at GTE.
Roger was a United States
Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a veteran of the 179th Air Guard of Mansfield
and the 1486th Army Transportation during Operation Desert Storm.
He was a member and past
President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2178, a member of the VFW, a Union
Steward IBEW and a Girl Scout leader and attended the Red Haw United Methodist
Church.
Roger loved being with his
family boating and fishing.
He is survived by his wife,
Sue Savick Saffle, who he married Oct. 4, 1969; three daughters, Stephanie
Saffle and her boyfriend, Matt Mager of Ashland; Kristina Saffle and her companion,
Jeremy Biddinger, of Ashland, and Hope Saffle and her companion, Ken Strait, of
Red Haw; five grandchildren; a sister, Faye Campbell, and a brother, Cecil
Saffle, both of Ashland.
He was preceded in death by
his parents.
Services will be 2 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Fickes Funeral Home in Jeromesville, with pastor
Layton Broome officiating.
Burial will be in Red Haw
Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Ashland Veterans Honor
Guard.
Friends may call tonight from
5-8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the Eagles will have a service at 8 p.m.
Friends may also call a half an hour before the service on Tuesday.

Rosemary
Saffle, age 83, of Woodsfield, Ohio
passed away Thursday January 6, 2011 at Wheeling Hospital Wheeling, West
Virginia. She was born in Woodsfield July 1, 1927 a daughter of the
late David H. & Gail M. Hoover Saffle.
Rosemary lived all of her
life in Woodsfield except for 21 years in Wilmington, Ohio. She
worked for Mabel Gillespie's Grocery Store for 20 years the M&K Store and a
couple of other grocery stores in Woodsfield. Rosemary was a member
of the Woodsfield Church of Christ where she helped as a Sunday School Teacher
and Vacation Bible School Teacher.
Preceded in death by two
brothers; Raymond & Richard Saffle.
She is survived by one
brother; Charles F. (Clara) Saffle Sr. of Woodsfield, one nephew; Charles F.
(Melody) Saffle Jr., one niece; Joyce Tolle, three great nephews; Ryan Geddes,
Sean Saffle, and Eric Saffle and a host of cousins.

p.m. Sunday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio

NEW MATAMORAS - Robert Austin Salsberry, 82, of New
Matamoras, died at 11:18 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 8, 2011) at his home. He was born
on Nov. 19, 1928, in St. Marys, W.Va., the son of Hosea and Hazel Nolan
Salsberry.
He was a retired operator and
truck driver for the Shelly and Sands Company. He was a U.S. Army Korean War
veteran.On May 3, 1952, he married Louise Mae Jacobs, who preceded him in death
on Aug. 18, 2002.
He is survived by five
daughters, Betty Trish (Jesse) of New Bloomfield, Pa., Connie Loy (Ivan), Nancy
Salsberry, and Ruth Leasure (Delbert) all of New Martinsville, W.Va., and Donna
Johnson (Ted) of Clarington. There are 10 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; one son, James Robert Salsberry, on Dec. 12, 1984; one brother
William Salsberry; and three sisters, Agnus Martin, Kathleen West and Leona
Salsberry.
Funeral services will be held
at 11 a.m.
Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2011) at
Hadley Funeral Home in New Matamoras with David Beaver officiating. Burial will
be in Matamoras Cemetery. Military services will be held at the graveside.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2011) at the

Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Edith was born March 6, 1921 in
Somerset Township, daughter of the late Harry Mayberry and Mary Chappell
Mayberry.
Edith was a
life-long homemaker and farmer.
In addition to
her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Howard Schafer; son,
Howard Eugene Schafer; grandson, Travis Schafer; sisters, Mable and Hilda; and
brothers, Earl, Bill, Frank, Harold, and Russell.
She is survived
by daughters, Helen Doudna (Rod McFrederick) of Beallsville, Ohio and Vickie
Clayton of Michigan; son, Gary (Diane) Schafer of Barnesville, Ohio; 11
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, sisters, Freda Duvall and Betty Clift,
both of Barnesville, Ohio.

formerly of Hannibal, Ohio died Friday, July 1, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville,
SC. He was born April 15, 1919 in Warwood, WV the son of the late Frank and
Grace Suter Schafer.
He was a retired electrician with Olin and Conalco, a US
Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW and the Hannibal United
Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his
wife, Martha Berger Schafer; a brother, Otto Schafer; and a sister, Leona
Schafer Harrison. Survivors
include two sons, Fred Schafer of Daytona, FL and Gary (Trudy) Schafer of
Shelbyville, MI; two daughters, Sharon (Brent) Mackey of Westerville, OH and
Karen (Gary) Anderson of Moore, SC; a brother, Chester Schafer of Powhatan
Point, OH; seven grandchildren, Joshua Schafer, Devin and Caitlin Mackey,
Christopher, Matthew, Marita, and Aaron Anderson; one great grandchild, Dario

Sunday July 3, 2011 at her home. She was born January 15, 1935 in Clarington,

She was a retired deli clerk at Giant Eagle, a former
member of the Rebekah Lodge, Hannibal, and a member of Zion United Church of
Christ, Sardis, OH. Margery enjoyed
spending time with the ladies at the New Matinsville Senior Citizen Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, C.E. "Jake" Schindler and one brother, Robert Dennis.
Survivors include
two sons, Tony (Terri) Schindler of Clarington, OH and Kenny (Sue) Schindler of
Pittsburgh, PA; three daughters, Cathy (Chris) Schindler-Franklin of New
Jersey, Penny Ensinger of Clarington, and Kelly (David) Haught of Marietta, OH,

Allen Schumacher, age 57, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Wednesday June 22,
2011, at his home with his wife and children holding his hand. He was born
March 27, 1954 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Roman Schumacher and the late Clara
Biedenbach Schumacher.
Rick was a graduate of
Beallsville High School, and was employed for the Ohio Valley Coal number Six
mine. He was as member of the UMWA, and also of the Switzerland of Ohio Country
Club. Among many things, Rick was an avid golfer, loved caring for his two dogs
as if they were his family, and loving his wife and children above all else.
Rick is preceded in death by
his mother, Clara Schumacher, two sisters, Joyce Schumacher and Susan
Schumacher Thomas, and also one loving aunt, Rose Mary Schumacher.
Rick is survived by his
father, Roman Schumacher of Malaga, Ohio, his wife Shirley Schumacher of
Woodsfield, Ohio, four children, Michele (Franklin) Holley of Dublin, Ohio,
Leann (Jason) McFrederick of Jerusalem, Ohio, Ashley (Ryan) Brown of
Beallsville, Ohio, and Yancy (Mandie) Lancaster of New Philadelphia, Ohio. He
is also survived by two brothers, Tony (Cindy) Schumacher of Malaga, Ohio,
Terry Schumacher of Barnesville, Ohio, two sisters, Rosy (Ron) Shinoskie of
Grove Port, Ohio, Missy (Mike) Knowlton of Woodsfield, Ohio, six grandchildren,
Allie and Brylee McFrederick, Kali and Blake Brown, Paden and Marilyn Lancaster
and two pets he called his children, Bella and Mr. Brinks.

at his home. He was born June 7, 1923 in Powhatan Point, Ohio a son of the late
Bruce Eugene and Mary Jane Straw Schuster.
Dale was a retired employee
of the Ormet Corporation and a former coal miner for the North American Coal
Corporation. He was a Methodist by faith and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War
II.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Marie Sheba Schuster; one son,
Edward Dale Schuster, Jr.; two grandsons, Lee Hinkle, Jr. and David Swegard;
one niece, Susan Swegard; one sister; four brothers; and one son-in-law, Gary
Lashley.
Surviving are three
daughters, Mary Anne (Gerald) Swegard of Powhatan Point, Ohio, Janet M. (Lee)
Hinkle of Carnegie, Pa., and Shirley Jean Lashley of Clarington, Ohio; one
sister, Betty Jean Courtney of Springfield, Ohio; and one brother, Donald
Eugene Schuster of Marion, Ohio. Also 12 grandchildren, 19 great-
grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Eldene Seidenabel, 97, of New
Matamoras, Ohio, died at her home on Monday (Nov. 28, 2011). She was born on
Nov. 16, 1914, in New Matamoras, the daughter of Irvin and Blanche Ellen Worden
Fulmer.
She was a member of the
Matamoras United Methodist Church and Matamoras Chapter No. 261 Order of
Eastern Star. She was a beautician and had owned and operated her own beauty
shop in New Matamoras.
On Jan. 26, 1932 she married
Paul Cunningham and he preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1963. She then married
Carl Seidenable on Aug. 11, 1967 and he preceded her in death on March 17,
1969.
She is survived by two
daughters, Elizabeth Cunningham of New Matamoras and Mary Ellen Martin of
Sardis, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise True, Chloellen Bernius and Clarissa
Wilson.
She was preceded in death by
both her husbands; one son, Raymond I. Cunningham; one grandchild, Amy
Cunningham; and one sister, Phyllis Miller.
Funeral services will be held
on Friday (Dec. 2, 2011) at 11 a.m. at the Hadley Funeral Home New Matamoras
Chapel with Rev. Dennis Williams officiating.
Burial will be in the

He was a WWII Navy Veteran; a retired coalminer from
Ireland/McElroy Mine; a member of Cedar Avenue Church of Christ, Moundsville;
Earl Francis Post #3 American Legion; and VFW Post #437, Moundsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
two sisters, Mildred Jones, and Mary Holliday.
Survivors include his wife of
74 years, Alma Kathleen Jones Shaffer; two sons, Robert L. (Pam) Shaffer of
Moundsville, and Ronald Gene (Sandy) Shaffer of FL; two daughters, Loretta
Snider (Paul Wolfe) of Mt. Claire, WV, and Karen (Larry) Shreve of Moundsville;

Granite Falls, North Carolina (formerly of Noble County, Ohio) died Friday,
April 8, 2011 at the Palliative Care Center and Hospice, Newton, North
Carolina. She was born at Stafford, Ohio on March 10, 1927 a daughter of the
late Harry and Victoria Clift Day.
She was a homemaker; a former
nutritionist at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio; a former cook at the
Sandwich Shoppe, Caldwell, Ohio and a companion to several when she lived in
Florida. She was also a member of the Macksburg United Methodist Church,
Macksburg, Ohio where she served as a trustee for many years.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Shoop; a sister, Delores
Kathleen Howell and a granddaughter, Emily Jean Good.
Surviving are a daughter and
son-in-law Kathy and Greg Good of Granite Falls, North Carolina and one nephew,
Curtis (Pam) Howell.

Adrian “Brian” Shriver, 53, of North Ridgeville, passed
away Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Hospice of the Western Reserve at the
Renaissance in Olmsted Township, after a long illness. He was born in Marietta,
and was a resident of North Ridgeville since 1966.
He was a 1977 graduate of North Ridgeville High School. Brian
worked for Springco Metal Coating and prior to working there, he was a sheet
metal worker and member of Sheet Metal Workers Union local #33.
He is survived by his daughters, Katie Francis of North
Ridgeville and Kasey Shriver of Vermilion; sons, John and Michael Shriver, both
of North Ridgeville; four grandchildren; parents, Abe and Jean (nee Martin)
Shriver of North Ridgeville; brother, Bret Shriver of North Ridgeville; uncle,
Jim Shriver of Grafton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Shriver;
uncle, Walt Shriver and aunt, Nadine Cline.

DAVID RANDEL SIMON 1957 - 2011
David Randel Simon died from an accident July 19th, 2011.
David was born in Boise, ID March 22, 1957 to Henry Joseph Simon and Julia
Marlowe Kinkade-Brokate.
He is survived by his mother, sons Jason Travis and Calvin
Tyrone Simon, grandsons Zane and Kaydyn Simon, siblings Elnora Roderick,
Carlena Miller, Joseph Simon and Lynette Roderick. David was preceded in death
by his father, infant brother Charles and sister, Kathleen Bean. David worked
as a cement finisher and was an avid outdoorsman.
There will be a viewing from 12 to 2 pm with services following
at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel Saturday 2 pm July 23, 2011. David will be
cremated with a private family interment.

Archie Blaine “Pap” Slager Sr., 79, of Colliers, WV passed away December 18,
2011 at Trinity West, Steubenville, OH. He was born February 2, 1931 in
Powhattan Point, OH to the late William and Mary Adella Cronin Slager. He
was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh
Steel Corp. in furnace repair with 38 ˝ years of service. He was a Methodist by faith and an Army
Veteran during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents he was preceded by his wife
Shirley Rudder Slager whom passed in 1993, two brothers Thomas Jefferson Slager
and Orville Henry Slager, one sister Opal Fulmer. He is survived by one son
Archie B. Slager Jr. and one daughter Mary Viola Slager both of Colliers, WV, a
step son Paul Dean Grimm of Bradock, PA, two brothers Joseph Slager of Weirton,
WV, William “Woody” Slager and his wife Grace of East Liverpool, OH, one

music, and Parkersburg South football.

Slusher (Brandon) of Belpre, and Ian Lattea of Parkersburg; five
great-grandchildren, Kaleigh and Blake Casto, and Amaya, Conner, and Addison
Ferguson; six brothers and sisters, Lalia Hoschar of Alaska, Ed Dillon, Ila
Petty (John), and Chris Lane (Harry), all of Sandyville, W.Va., and Gail Dillon
and Audrey Fisher, both of Ravenswood.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her
husband Layne G. Slusher; and seven brothers and sisters, Mary Braniff, Keith
Dillon, Cheryl Pence, Coral Small, David and Linda Dillon, and Edna.
Services will be Saturday 11 a.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home,

Smith, Homer J., age 86, of
Long Ridge Road, Sardis, OH, died Friday, December 23, 2011 at his home. He was
born January 12, 1925 in New Martinsville, WV, the son of the late Lloyd and
Lena Kocher Smith.
Homer was a dairy farmer from
1948 until his retirement and loved his apple orchard of 20 years. He was a
member of Zion United Church of Christ in Sardis, American Legion Post 760,
Hannibal, OH, and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he received a purple heart.
He loved woodworking and made several pieces of furniture and hand-made
fiddles, which he taught himself to play at age 40.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Lawrence Smith; and a great
grandson, Matthew Smith.
Survivors include his wife of
65 years, Vera Richmond Smith; eight children, Bernard (Sharon) Smith of
Sardis, Charles Daniel (Deborah) of Northport, WA, Samuel (Janell) Smith,
Ronald (Delores) Smith, Jerry (Sherri) Smith, Vicki (Kevin) Haught, Kirby
(Jody) Smith and Faye (Bob) Smith, all of Sardis; 25 grandchildren, 22 great
grandchildren, a brother, Highland (Winnie) Smith of Clarington, OH, three
sisters, Gladys Anthony of New Martinsville, WV, Florence (Vernon) Straub and
Emma Jean (Dean) Rufener, both of Sardis; and several nieces and nephews.

Kevin was a diesel mechanic and attended Bethesda
United Methodist Church.

Hospital. She was born December 20, 1925 in Hastings, West Virginia
a daughter of the late Fay Elmer and Bessie Virginia Scyoc Stackpole.
She had attended grade school
at Porters Falls, West Virginia and High School at Reader, West
Virginia. Mary Louise and her husband Brady were Baptized by
Evangelist Elmer Taylor at a Gospel meeting held in Cameron, Ohio Oct. 12,
1950. Louise was a faithful member of the Woodsfield Church of
Christ.
Preceded in death by one son;
James Ronald Smith, October, 1984, great grandson; Christian Starr Wellman,
sisters; Martha Wilma Lee Stackpole Reed, Ruth Marie Stackpole Ady, and Shirley
Grace Stackpole, one brother; Emmett Stackpole.
She is survived by her
husband Brady Eugene Smith of Woodsfield who she married March 4, 1947 by J.VA
Traylor at his home, two daughters; Julie Lynne Smith Schwab of Peachtree City,
Georgia, and Jean Lynette Smith of Milford, Ohio, one brother; Charles Raymond

Lewisville, Ohio on May 21, 1916 a daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude
Crock Zwick.
She was a homemaker and a
member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, Ohio where she was also a
member of the Catholic Women's Club and the St. Francis Society.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Smithberger; a daughter, Donna
Bolon; a brother, Carl Zwick; a sister, Gertrude Sorg; two daughters-in-law,
Mary Smithberger and Eiko Smithberger; and a great granddaughter, Deanna
Smithberger.
Surviving are one daughter;
Nina (Daryl) Highman of Senecaville, Ohio, three sons; James Smithberger and
Jacob Smithberger both of Lewisville, Ohio, and Kiven (Melissa) Smithberger of

John Clemence Smithberger, 93, of the Summit Acres Nursing Home,
Caldwell, Ohio died Monday, October 10, 2011 at the nursing home.
He was born
near Summerfield, Ohio on September 6, 1918 a son of the late George Joseph and
Rosa Elizabeth Zwick Smithberger.
John was a
retired farmer and a former Stock Township Trustee in Noble County, Ohio. He
was a United States Army veteran of World War II; a member of St. Michael
Catholic Church, Carlisle, Ohio where he was a member of the Holy Name Society;
a member of the American Legion Post #415, Summerfield, Ohio, and a member of
the Carlisle Grange.
In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Clara Schumacher
Smithberger in 1994; a daughter, Teresa Kahrig; two sons, Louis Smithberger and
George Edward Smithberger; three sisters, Ida Barbara Smithberger, Freda Clara
Smithberger, and Marie Cecilia Smithberger; three brothers, Raymond P.

are one daughter, Bertha R. Anderson of Summerfield, Ohio; one son, Paul

(Sutton) Kelley.She was previously employed by General Electric Co., and was of
the Baptist faith. She enjoyed reading. She was preceded in death by her
husband, John L. Smithhart; an infant son, Kelley Scott Smithhart; a sister,
Edna Mae Kelley Sims; a brother, Ernest D. "Dink" Kelley; a grandson,
Timothy Paul Cox; and two daughters-in-law, Jonell Cox and Jackie Cox.

Paul Cox, Jr. (Ruth Ann), Ronald Joe Cox (Millie) and Brad Smithhart

Smittle, Bob P. age 79 of Navarre, OH, formerly of Sardis, OH, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Affinity Medical Center, Massillon, OH. He was born October 10, 1931 in Sardis, OH, a son of the late Paul Robert and Kathryn P. Niemann Smittle.
He was a retired truck driver for Logan Coal & Supply, Canton, OH, attended the Sardis United Methodist Church, and a U.S. Marine, during the Korean Conflict.
Bob was a friend and mentor to several youths in his
neighborhood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
brother, James G. Smittle and an infant brother.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce Richmond
Smittle; sister in law, Patricia Smittle, a niece, Sherry (Daniel) VanCamp and

"Pappy" Snyder, 80, of Bethesda, Ohio passed away Tuesday, December
20, 2011 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born December 16, 1931 in Calais, Ohio,
son of the late Clay Dean Snyder and Ada Oliver Snyder.
Don was retired
from the Ormet Corporation. He was a former Union Local School Board member, a
member of the Body of Christ, and attended Ebenezer Baptist Church. He served
his country in the U.S.. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Bethesda
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, E. Melvina Wright;
brothers, John King and Allen Eugene Snyder; and beloved nephew, Michael J.
Wright.

by his wife of 56 years, Shirley McEndree Snyder; daughters, Penny (Tim)

Paris, Ohio, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, in Monroe, Ga. She was born
Nov. 9, 1918, in Paris to the late Samuel and Carrie (Maurer) Mercer.
Eva was a member of Israel Lutheran Church in Paris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2001;
two sisters, Martha Gram and Esther Reed; and a great-grandson, Asa Drury.

evening (Nov. 30, 2011). She was born in Marietta on Aug. 28, 1942, the
daughter of Kingsley Ottabine and Amanda Elizabeth Payne Farnsworth.
She was a member of the
Washington Hall Church and had been employed by the Ormet Corporation prior to
her retirement. She was also a member of the United Steel Workers Union and the
Ladies Axillary VFW Post # 6387.
She was married to Phillip
Speece who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons:
Kenneth Edward Leasure and Greg Leasure Sr. (Deborah) and one daughter,
Elizabeth Leasure (Tim) all of New Matamoras, Ohio. Also surviving are nine
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha Scott; and one
brother, Larry Farnsworth.
She was preceded in death by
her parents; husband; one son, Jackie Leasure; one brother, Gary Farnsworth;
and one nephew, Michael Leasure.
Funeral services will be held

Flushing, Ohio, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in
Martins Ferry, Ohio. He was born December 17, 1939 in Boston, Ohio, a son of
the late Harold Stephen and Freda Wells Stephen Fankhauser.
John was a retired coalminer from Oglebay Norton's Saginaw
Mine and former truck driver for J.W. Stenger Trucking.
He was a member of the UMWA, a loving husband and father, he
loved hunting and fishing, and was very active in coaching his daughters in
softball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
sister, Carolyn Pierce.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie L. Carpenter Stephen; four
daughters, Tonia Klug and her companion, Mitch Toto of Flushing, Rhonda (Brad) Roach
of Bellaire, Melissa (Jason) Dingey of St. Clairsville, and Darla (Robbie)
Fuller of Stewartsville; brothers, Daniel Stephen of Pittsburgh, and Tommy
Stephen of Hawaii; sisters, Ethel Bizarri of Malaga, Vicki Sue Carlson of
Newton Falls, and Jeannie Langley of Virginia; five grandchildren, Paige

was born March 20, 1916 in Monroe County, Ohio to the late Simon and Theresa
(Burkhart) Burkhart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, James O. Stephens January 18, 1994; son, Clarence Stephens;
granddaughter, Tina Cook Starr; great- grandson, Alex David Shuman; and brothers,
Raymond Burkhart and Alfred Burkhart.
Surviving are two daughters, Lilly Bryant of Barnesville
and Ginny (Dave) Cook of Barnesville; nine grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Stevens, 81, passed away Sunday
(Jan. 9, 2011) at Harmar Place. She was born Tuesday, June 11, 1929, in
Lewisville, Ohio, to the late Homer and Zelda Kindelberger Baker.
She was a graduate of
Lewisville High School, Class of 1948. She married William "Bill"
Stevens in 1948. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2007. They made their home
in the Harrietsville area until 1956, when they moved to Marietta. She was a
homemaker and worked at the J.C. Penny's in Marietta for 28 years. She loved to
play cards, watch the Atlanta Braves, and square dance. She was well known for
her pancakes and homemade syrup.
She is survived by a
daughter, Karen Offenberger (Danny) of Marietta; two sons, Bill Stevens of
Marietta and Jeff Stevens (Lisa) of Walker, W.Va. Also surviving are nine
grandchildren, Kristy Easton (Michael), Seth Offenberger, Jill Barnes (Jamey),
Andy Offenberger (Sarah), Taby Wagner (DK), Heath Stevens (Erin), Caitlin
Hockenberry (Chad), Jamie Stevens (Ben), and Matt Stevens (Amy). She had 10
great-grandchildren, Rylee, Cameron, Kelsey, Josie, Jordan, Jared, Jeremy,
Colton, Jacey, and Nicholas. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws,
Genevra Ullman of Westminster, Md., and Onita Nobbs of Myrtle Point, Ore.; and
one brother-in-law, Frank Stevens (Bonnie) of Fly, Ohio.
In addition to her parents
and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Don, Darrell, and Byron
Baker.
Service will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2011) at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St.,
with Monsignor Michael Campbell officiating. Burial to follow in East Lawn

Delmas “Mike” Stewart, 62, of Jerusalem, died Wednesday,
September 28, 2011 at his home. He was born October 28, 1948, in Jerusalem,
Ohio, a son of the late James and Grace Kinzy Stewart.
Mike was a US Army veteran of both the Vietnam Conflict
and Operation Enduring Freedom having served in Iraq.
He was a retired police officer for the Village of
Woodsfield and a retired member of the Army Reserve, 463 Engineer Battalion
located out of Wheeling, WV.
He was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church,
a former member of both the Beallsville VFD and EMS, and for many years, Mike
enjoyed playing guitar as a member of “Dutch Howell and the Country Swingers.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a
brother, James “Casey” Stewart.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Susan Cramer Stewart;
three sons, Michael (Diane) Stewart of West Salem, Ohio , Christopher (Darcy)
Stewart of Cambridge, and Derek Stewart of Jerusalem; two grandchildren, Alaina
Stewart of West Salem and Brendon Stewart of Cambridge; three brothers, Dan,
John , and Steve Stewart, all of Utah; and two sisters, Debbie Lynn and Ethel
Littleton, both of Barnesville.

Jimmie H. Stimpert, age 71, of Lewisville, Ohio died Thursday
May 12, 2011 under the excellent and compassionate care of Barnesville
Hospital. He was born on Sept 8, 1939
in Monroe County, a son of the late George and Zelda Feiber Stimpett.
He was a baptized member of the Woodsfield Church of
Christ. He was a self-employed timber
cutter and owner of Lewisville Hardwood.
Whenevcer he cut a tree, it fell precisely where he wanted it to
fall. He was an avid gardener and
hunter and loved the outdoors. He loved
to joke and laugh with family and friends.
He was a great husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Brown Stimpert, whom he married
on Dec. 31, 1963; two daughters; Mary Jo (Rick) Westfall and Linda (Tony)
Baker, and one son, Doug Stimpert, all of Lewisville; one sister, Patricia
(Dave) Snyder of Canton; three brothers, Ron (Betty M.) Stimpert, Dan (Betty
E.) Stimpert of Lewisville and Phillip Stimpert of Louisville, Ohio; four
grandchildren, Ben and Rachel Westfall, and Kyra and Derek Baker all of
Lewisville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four

He was in the Navy and served in WWII. He then worked at the
Hammond Meat Company in Cleveland, Ohio before returning to Monroe County to
work and later retire from Conalco.
Some of Sam's favorite hobbies included working on his farm,
auctioneering, and doing dozer work.

Andrea was formerly employed as a telephone operator,

also a homemaker.

of New Matamoras, died at his home on Monday (Nov. 28, 2011). He was born at
Fly, Ohio, on March 26, 1934, the son of Richard H. and Florence Lillian
Campbell Talbott.
He had worked for the city of
Tacoma, Washington as a city transit driver. He was a veteran of the Korean War
and was a 1952 graduate of Matamoras High School and attended Ohio University
for two years.
He is survived by his wife,
Helen Irene Amos; and one daughter, Kathy Towson (Toby) of Boonsboro, Maryland;
three grandchildren, Ella, Eva and Anya Towson.
Three sisters also survive,
Barbara Johnson, Donna Sue Lutz and Emily Holdenreid, along with two brothers
Richard and Alan Talbott.
He was preceded in death by

Mrs. Tedrow, beloved wife of Dennis Harold Tedrow of almost
40 years, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011. Born in Elyria, Ohio, she was
the daughter of the late Gustave Michael Zeck and Evelyn Fern Stickle Zeck. She
has been an area resident since 1992, formerly of Salem, Ohio. She was a member
of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her friends and
family.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Dennis H. Tedrow of
West Columbia, S.C.; are mother-in-law, Rhea Tedrow of Salineville, Ohio;
daughters, Kathy Lallie of Alliance, Ohio and Shani Davies (Rich) of Lexington,
S.C.; sons, Kristopher Swenson (Gayle) of Gaithersburg, Md. and Stephen
Swenson, Jr. of Swansea, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren;
sisters- in-law, Martha Williams (Dennis), Marcie Witherow, Penny Ambrose
(Brian), Terri Witherow (Jay) and Tracy Wegendt (Eric); brother-in- law,

LEAVITTSBURG - Roger
L. Tenney, 62, entered into rest Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 1, 1949, in Buckhannon, W.Va., the son
of Marion and Jeannette Rader Tenney.
Roger enlisted into the United States Army on Feb. 10,
1966, and served during the Vietnam War. After serving overseas, he received
his honorable discharge on Jan. 19, 1969.
Returning to civilian life, Roger was employed as a heavy
equipment operator working For Heckett Engineering for 28 and a half years,
later known as Harsco.
On June 5, 1970, Roger L. Tenney and Lois L. Lattea were
united in marriage in First Baptist Church in Newton Falls.
Some of Roger's favorite pastimes included bowling, motorcycle
riding, four wheeling and gambling. He made his home a welcoming place for all
to visit and share happy times together.
Always willing to extend a helping hand, Roger would assist
and offer encouragement to his fellow patients of the Wade Park VA Hospital. He
was a 30-year member of the American Legion Post 699 in Leavittsburg.
Memories of Roger will be carried on by his loving and
caring wife, Lois; his children, Roger Jr., LaVonne and Frank; his
grandchildren, Scott Tenney, Sky Tenney, Alixondra Tulanko and Sebastian
Tulanko; his father, Marion Tenney; his brothers, Nat Light, Melvin Tenney,
Danny Tenney and Dennis Tenney; and a sister, Marian Cain.
Preceding Roger were his mother, Jeannette Rader Light; his
sister, Gloria Finley; his brother, David Tenney; and his stepmother, Shirley
Tenney.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at
the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where a service will follow with
Pastor Kenneth Dodrill officiating.

Veterans Honor Guard will honor Roger with a military service in Pine Knoll
Cemetery, where Roger will be laid to rest.

CHILLICOTHE: Harley E. Thomas, 89, of Chillicothe, passed
from this life on Thursday morning, February 3, 2011 in the Adena Regional
Medical Center. He was born April 17, 1921 in Washington County, OH, the son of
James Elmer and Myrtle Mae (Mendenhall) Thomas. On April 19, 1942 he married
Cora Mae Jourden with whom he shared 68 years together.
Surviving is a daughter, Kay and her husband, John
O'Connor, Ocala, FL; a son, David R. Thomas, Dayton, OH; grandchildren, John D.
O'Conner, Jr. and Matthew O'Connor; a great grandchild, Dexter J. O'Connor; and
several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents; sisters, Opal Colburn and
Helen Parker; and brothers, Lloyd and Paul Thomas preceded him in death.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army, in the Pacific
Theatre as a Master Sergeant in the Quartermaster Corp.
Harley was a store manager for the Kroger Company, with 38
years of service, retiring in 1986. He was a 47 year member of Walnut St.
United Methodist Church and served as an usher for many years.
He was a member and Past Master of Scioto
Lodge #6, F&AM, The Chillicothe York Rite Bodies and was an Honorary
Eminent Commander of Chillicothe Commandery #8, KT, Scottish Rite, Valley of
Columbus, Aladdin Shrine Temple, Ross County Shrine Club, Eastern Star Chapter
419, American Legion Post 62 and was a Charter Member of VFW Post 9893, Albany,
OH.
Harley had served as building manager and a director of the
Masonic Temple Association. He was a devoted member of the Craft and will be
sadly missed.
Together, with his wife, they were long-time volunteers for
the American Red Cross during blood drives. A devoted husband and father, he
enjoyed being outdoors and working in his yard.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Monday, February 7,
2011 in the Walnut St. United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Smith
officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander Cemetery, Albany, OH with military
honors by the Albany VFW, Athens VFW and Athens American Legion. The family
will receive friends at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME from
3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, with an Eastern Star service at 4:30 p.m. and a
Masonic service at 5:00 p.m.

at her residence. She was born August 19, 1934 in Stafford to Hubert and Maude
Leasure Brown. She was a graduate of Woodsfield High School. Joan had attended
Souls Harbor Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, scrapbooking and
researching family trees.
Joan is survived by four daughters, Charlene Dalrymple
(Herby) of Lewisville, Connie Schultheisz (Chuck) of Marietta, Terrie “Sis”
Coombs (Robbie) of Cutler and Sherrie Foster (Terry) of Marietta, a son, Ed
“Bub” Moore (Regina) of Beverly, several grandchildren and great grandchildren
and one great great granddaughter, her special friend, Kay Thomas, of Newport,
two brothers, Buster Brown (Mary) and Don Brown (Susie), all of Marietta and
her dog, Buttons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers,

John was a retired rolling

Legion Post 28, both of New Martinsville; VFW Post 6327 in Sistersville, WV; and
a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by a son, Harold Thomas; a daughter, Crystal Barker;
and three brothers, Jim Smith, Ralph Thomas and Joe Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of
58 years, Wilda Blake Thomas; a son, Rickie (Kay) Thomas of Proctor, WV; five
grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Jessica, Lacy and Kendra; six great
grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ada Cooper of Dover, Ohio.

Tschappat, 90, of Clarington, OH, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend died Friday November 25,
2011 surrounded by her family at Shadyside Care Center, Shadyside, OH. She was
born December 15, 1920 in Clarington, OH, a daughter of the late Charles and
Edna Read Tschappat.
On Dec. 12, 1939 she married
her lifelong sweetheart, Reuben M. Thomas. She enjoyed crocheting,
cross-stitching, knitting, listening to music, steamboats, river history and
being with her family. During Clarington's 1997 Sesquicentennial Festival she
was crowned Queen for a day by residents of the town. In addition to her
activities, she was a member of the Clarington Order of Eastern Star Chapter No
533 and Protestant by faith.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Reuben M. Thomas on July
10, 2007, brother, Lemuel Tschappat, son-in-law, Gene (Skip) Taylor, niece,
Connie Tschappat, nephew, James Imperata and great nephew, Jeff Smith.
Survivors include a daughter,

She was born December 31, 1919 in Marietta, Ohio, daughter
of Walter Blaine Oliver and Ruth Anna Holiday Oliver. She was a homemaker and
had been a waitress for several years. She was a member of the Ullman Street
Church of Christ in Beverly. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting and quilting.
She was married in September of 1937 to Harold Francis Wise. He died January
30, 1963. She later married Dewey Tilton in January of 1968. He died June 10,
1995.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Grubb and husband
Mark of Beverly; 4 grandchildren, Jeanne Ann Thompson of Beverly, Lois Irene
Reitter and husband John of Delaware, Ohio, Daniel Harold Grubb and wife Ashley
of Belpre and Timothy Alan Grubb and wife Brooke of Little Hocking; 5 great
grandchildren, Elizabeth Thompson, Cole Thompson, Ian Reitter, Dylan Grubb and
Ethan Grubb; 1 brother, Elmer Oliver of Kentucky; 2 sisters, Marie McGregor and

28, 1924 in New Martinsville, WV, the daughter of the late Mossell and Laura
Holland Potts. Erma was a former employee of Viking
Glass; a retired custodian from the Switzerland of Ohio School District; and
attended Hannibal United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her husband, Donald A. Tisher; a sister, Pauline Voelp; and four brothers,
Cecil Potts, Hollie Potts, Francis Potts and Roy Potts. Survivors include two
sons, Tom Tisher and Tim (Cathy) Tisher, both of Hannibal; a grandson, Casey

Sunday, September 11, 2011 at his home. He was born October 5, 1942 in
Bethesda, Ohio, son of the late Walter Tracy and Anna Martha Rowland Tracy.
His favorite thing to do was watch his grandson, whether
playing with him at home or watching him race his dirt bike. He also enjoyed
NASCAR racing.
Paul was a member of Barnesville Church of the Nazarene
and was retired from Consol Mining.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Davis
Tracy; daughter Heather Tracy of the home; son, Matt (Kirstin) Tracy of
Flushing; special grandson, Ethan Tracy of Flushing; sister, Sue (Brad) Dowdle
of Bethesda; and brother, Gerald (Garnet) Tracy of Cambridge.

OH died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Calcutta Health Care Center following a
lengthy illness.
She was born in East Liverpool, OH on April 3, 1930 and was
the daughter of the late Paul J. and Bertha (Risden) Lemal. Living her entire
life in the area, Mrs. Travis was a wife, mother and grandmother and was a
graduate of East Liverpool High School. She enjoyed doing ceramics, playing
cards, painting bird houses, loved to play bingo and was a cake baker
extraordinaire.
Her husband, Charles J. Travis survives her at home. They
were married April 23, 1950. She is survived by two sons, Paul C. Travis and
his wife, Candy of Glenmoor, OH and Steve M. Travis of Macomb, MI; two
daughters, Robin D. Myers and her husband, Charles of Waynesburg, OH and Luann
G. Hanlon and her husband, Mark of East Liverpool, OH; a sister, Susanna M.
Figley of Calcutta; 9 grandchildren, Tammy McCoy, Tracy Travis, Matt Travis,
Karen Travis, Regina Padrick, Erin Sarge, Charles Myers, Sara Hanlon and Briana

Clarington, Ohio, died Sunday morning, January 23, 2011, at OVMC in Wheeling,
WV.
He was retired from the Corps
of Engineers, Lock 14, and served in World War II in the United States Army
from 1942-1945, where he was a Staff Sergeant specializing in intelligence and
reconnaissance. He served with Company B 48th Armored Infantry Battalion.
Lemuel was the son of Charles
and Edna Tschappat of Clarington. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Louise; and his childhood friend and
brother-in-law, Reuben Thomas.
He is survived by one sister,
Virginia Thomas; his wife, Mary Louise (Damiani); one son, Lemuel Charles; a
granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Amie Louise and Douglas McMullin; and his
beloved great grandson, Nathan McMullin.
Lemuel was an avid golfer and
remained so until the last few months of his life. He was a kind, honest
and generous man who was well-loved and respected by his family and many
friends. He will be greatly missed.

Muriel Toothman, age 89, of West Chester,
PA, formerly of Clarington, OH, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Life Care
Hospital in West Chester.
She was born November 2, 1921
in Drumright, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Francis and Anna Edna
Mittendorf Toothman.
Muriel was a member of the
Riverfront and Clarington Senior Citizens; Chester County Day Care; and
Clarington United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son,
Tommy (Theresa) Tucker of Clarington; three daughters, Susie (Gilbert) Zink of
West Chester, Debbie (Robert) Reed of Beallsville, Ohio and Betsy Conger of
Mesa, AZ; a brother, Francis "Jack" (Elsie) Toothman, also of Mesa;
eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends
on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at
Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 125 Clarinda Drive, Clarington, with Rev.

TURNER, (Zavodsky) Ethel, 99,
formerly of Bellaire, Ohio, passed away November 5, 2011 at the Shadyside Care
Center. Ethel was born February 8, 1912 in Blue Bell, Southern Guernsey County,
Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Stefan and Anna Vlacek Zavodsky.
In 1928 Ethel married Joseph
Turner in Byesville, Ohio and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1978. Ethel
was a devoted wife, much-loved mother, grandmother and homemaker.
Preceding her in death, in
addition to her husband and parents, was a daughter, Florence Ollom on May 3,
2003, infant twin sons in 1928 and two brothers, John and Michael Zavodsky.
Surviving are five children,
Robert (Mary) Turner and Pearl Turner, both of Shadyside, Ohio, Sylvia McGuire
of Powhatan Point, Ohio, Dick (Jean) Turner of Beallsville, Ohio, and Gloria
Jean Turner of Panama City Beach, Fla. She is also survived by 12
grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren and 15 great great-grandchildren; her
sister, Mary Holliday of Cambridge, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the
convenience of the family.
Interment in Holly Memorial
Gardens Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

Roger F. Turner was born June 10, 1913 in Woodsfield, Ohio,
the son of John Franklin and Lydia (Latta) Turner. He married Elizabeth
"Betty" J. Dugan on April 20, 1939.
Mr. Turner was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church
in Olney, as well as the Masons and Elks. He had been a Boy Scout Leader in
Utah and Colorado.
Roger is survived by his wife, Betty of Olney;
daughter-in-law, Linda Turner of Colorado; granddaughters, Michelle Evans and
Dana Turner of Colorado; Special nephews, Mike Dugan and wife Millie of Ailey,
GA and Richard Robb and wife Linda of New Berlin, OH and several nieces and
nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Roger
Patrick Turner, seven sisters and two brothers.

WAYNE -- Max Richard Tyson, age 79, of Wayne, Ohio, passed
away in his sleep on Wednesday (July 27, 2011) at Wood Haven Health Care in
Bowling Green.
He was born on January 31, 1932 in Wood County to the late
Harley F. & Keitha C. (Ward) Tyson, Sr. He married Patricia Jane
"PJ" Minard on September 29, 1953 in Angola, Indiana.
Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years Patricia; sons,
Rockford "Rock" Tyson of Copley, Ohio, Colonel Dustin Tyson of
Stafford, Virginia; daughters, Teresa Tyson-Drummer of Rutland, Ohio, Angela
Tyson-Williams of Fishers, Indiana; brothers, Blake Tyson of Wayne, Harley
"Buck" Tyson of Wayne; sister, Irene Clayton-Kiser of Portage, Ohio;
7 grandchildren & 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin, Dwight
"Ty", James, Ivan "Deed" and a grandson Carlton Drummer.
Max owned and farmed 20 acres
of land. He was also employed for 30+ years as a millwight at LOF in Rossford.
He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the First Battalion, 15th Infantry
Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division and he saw active duty from October 1952 to
July 1954. He was decorated with the Korean Service Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge & Combat Against Enemy Ground Forces
Medal.
He was a 1951 graduate of Montgomery Twp. High School and a
member of the Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338 in Bradner, Ohio. Max was
an avid outdoorsman and really loved to hunt, fish & spend time in the
garden.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Friday (July 29,
2011) with additional visitation from 10-11 a.m. Saturday (July 30, 2011) at
Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne where a Celebration of Life Service will begin at
11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Mike Soltis officiating. Burial will be in
Riverview Cemetery in West Millgrove, Ohio with military honors performed by
the Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338 in Bradner. A bereavement luncheon
will follow at Mt. Zion United Brethren Church near Wayne.

Jamison, infant daughter of Wade and Sandra Van Horn of Belmont, Ohio, went to be

Devan was preceded in death
by her grandfather, John Van Horn and her great-grandmother, Sarah Schlanz,

She is survived by

Rose was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope
Christian Church in Seville.
She enjoyed sewing, collecting dolls, singing, playing
the guitar, going to church, and flowers.

had lived for the last 30 years. He was born May 29, 1922, near
Beallsville, a son of the late George and Maude Palmer Vaness.
Fred was a retired dozer
operator for Blaney Lumber. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his wife, Betty Persons Vaness; a brother Floyd Vaness; a
sister, Ellie Vaness Jacobs; a half-brother, Forest Atkinson.
He is survived by his daughter with whom he resided, Helen (Ross)
Larew; three grandchildren, Betty (Chunk) Hudson, Amy (Dennis) Carpenter, and
Bubba (Shannon) Larew all of Malaga; four great-grandchildren, Dusty Wilcox,
Breelyn Hudson, Bode and Baylee Carpenter; several nieces and nephews.

WALL Arlene Mildred (Sammet) Wall, 80, of Obetz. Born
February 10, 1931, in Columbus, OH. Arlene passed on October 5, 2011 at Mt. Carmel
East with her family surrounding her. Arlene married Earl E. Wall Sr. in 1950
they just celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary. Arlene was employed by
Columbus Engineering, Big Bear Stores, Federal Glass, General Motors, Shonac
Corp, and Co-owner and President of Wall Cabinet. Arlene was a generous giver
and supporter of orphan children worldwide and numerous organizations that fed
the hungry. She attended Obetz Church of the Nazarene. Arlene adored her
grandchildren and her favorite time was when the family was all together.
Arlene is remembered for how she loved everyone in a special way and how she
kept a meticulous home. Her children always talk about how blessed they are to
have such a wonderful mother who never asked them for anything and always gave.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents Conrad and
Frances Sammet, sisters Anna Staley, Mary Slane, and a brother John Sammet.
Arlene is survived by husband, Earl; her children, Earl (Barbara) Wall II, Steven
(Amy) Wall, Karen Wall, Connie (Tarry) Summers, and Mark (Janet) Wall;
siblings, Louise Wallace, Linda Bryan, and Conrad Sammet Jr.; grandchildren,

Thomas F. Wallace, 45, of Warren passed away peacefully
2:28 AM Saturday Feb. 12, 2011 in the emergency room at Trumbull Memorial
Hospital surrounded by those who loved him.
He was born Oct. 10, 1965 in Warren the son of Ora V.
"Judy" (Brown) and the late George F. Wallace.
A lifetime area resident, Tom was a 1984 graduate of Warren
G, Harding high school where he was a letterman on the football team. Following
graduation, Tom attended Kent State University and Youngstown State University
and then was employed at Delphi Packard Electric in the Manufacturing and
Quality Assurance Departments.
Tom was an athlete and a member of the Warren YMCA. He
enjoyed golf, bicycling, jogging, and played basketball and racquetball. He was
an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland sports teams. He was
very involved with the Howland Athletic club for many years where he coached
multiple sports.
Tom will be deeply missed by his mother Ora of Warren,
daughter Logan Wallace, son Drew Guido both of Howland, 3 sisters Tana (Bob)
Catron, Debbie (Dan) Wojnarski, Kim
(Ted) Kowalczyk all of Howland and a brother Earl Rodney Maines of Warren. He
also leaves 5 nieces and nephews; Keith Thomas, Jennifer and Christopher
Wojnarski, Justina Maines, and Bridger Kowalczyk.
He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a 1995 graduate of
Caldwell High School, and he was employed as a machine operator for
International Converter in Caldwell. Kyle enjoyed NASCAR and go cart racing,
and spending time with his family and friends at Fiddle Creek Speedway. He was
Methodist by faith.
In addition to his father, he
is preceded in death by one sister, Kerry Leigh Walters, who died May 2, 2002.
In addition to his mother, he
is survived by three sisters, Anne (Daniel) Mertz of Strongsville, Jane (James,
Jr.) Oliver of Summerfield, and Sharon (John) Border of Keithtown; his

was born at Altoona, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1944 a son of the late Marvin
Walters and Margaret Wilson.
Marvin was a former
construction worker and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Cleveland,
Ohio.
Surviving are his former
wife, Laura Walters of Salem, Arkansas, one daughter, Rebecca Walters, one son,
Christopher Walters, both of North Royalton, Ohio, one sister, Linda Tripp of
Stafford, Virginia and several grandchildren.

Laings, Ohio June 22, 1942 a daughter of the late Waldo and Helen Barton
McCaslin.
Kathleen was a
Presbyterian. She was very active in
the Senior Citizens Center and had many friends and was loved by all in the
community.
Preceded in death by two
brothers; Donald & Dean McCaslin, three sisters; Shirley Morris, Rosalee
Ward, and Arlene Hopkins, two infant brothers, one infant sister and a nephew; Ron
Blackstone.
She is survived by Sonny Ward
of Woodsfield, four nieces and one nephew; Tammy O’Brien of Woodsfield, Rhonda
Blackstone of Cambridge, Cheryl Morris of Chillicothe, Scott McCaslin of
Woodsfield, and Audrey Ward of Pleasant City, Ohio, Sister-in-law; Rita

Robert Edward Warden, 95 of Marietta, passed away
peacefully, surrounded by family at 8:27 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 18, 2011).
He was the eldest of 12 children born Jan. 6, 1916, to the
late Herbert and Pearl Miller Warden and was the husband of Martha Eleanor. He
was a carpenter and his favorite past times included fishing, bowling and
spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a champion
bowler throughout his life and continued until the age of 90.
He is survived by two sons, Robert "Bob" Warden
and his wife Anita of Homosassa, Florida, William "Bill" Warden of
Belpre, Ohio: two sisters, Winifred Flowers of Williamstown and Elizabeth
Warden of Marietta, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren along
with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son,
Terry Warden; three sisters, Marie Offenberger, Catherine Warden and Mildred
Schario; six brothers, Harold, Wilbur, Paul, Ralph, Corbett and Lowell Warden.
Funeral services will be held at Hadley Funeral Home Reno
Chapel 1021 Pike Street, 11 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 21, 2011) with Pastor Stacy

Barnesville, Ohio, died Thursday at her home. Born July 10, 1928 in Temperanceville,
Ohio to the late Patrick A. and Bertha (McLaughlin) McCort.
Ruth was a graduate from
Somerton High School, member of the Assumption Catholic Church, Catholic
Women's Club, and Ohio Bell Pioneers. She was a retired operator for Ohio Bell
Telephone of 31 years.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl William Wehr November 2, 1999;
three brothers, Frederick, Charles and Justin McCort; and two sisters, Mary
McCort and Lucy Mansfield.
Surviving are a son, Terry
(Debbie) Wehr of Barnesville; three grand children, Jason (Chantel) Polascak of
Lewis Center, Ohio, Courtney (Matt) Fish of Westerville, Ohio, and Kelsey Wehr
of Chapel Hill, N.C.; three great- grandchildren, Kaylee and Bella Polascak,

-- Jack Fredrick White, 64, died Friday, September 2, 2011 at his home.
The son of Cornelieus N. and Agnes (Wood) White he was born
on October 8, 1946 in Trumbull County, Ohio.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam
Conflict and was honorably discharged.
Prior to his retirement due to health reasons he was
employed by RMI.
Jack liked to fish, but he really liked to fish with his
friends so they could swap stories about the big one that got away or the
monster they were going to catch that day. His illness forced him to slow down,
but he did not stop living. He liked to drive his car to the store and get
doughnuts, not just any doughnuts, but Bavarian Creme doughnuts. He would eat
them while watching Animal Planet or the History Channel. Jack enjoyed
television and would watch those two shows even if it meant watching reruns he
was so fascinated by all that he learned. A NASCAR fan; he said racing wasn't
quite the same since Dale Earnhart died and at times would cheer for anyone but
Gordon. His beloved dog, Roxanne was at his side when he was not feeling [submitter’s
note: word missing here] and she
gave him great comfort during those times.
Jack loved his family, his daughter Laura came to live with
him and brought him great comfort during these last difficult months. He will
be missed for his quite strength and the love that he gave to his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Laura White of Ashtabula;
grandchildren, Jessica Nicole White and her fiance` Jake Ashby, Samuel William
Marshall,III, and Brea Brianna Holley White; great grandchildren, Adrianna A.
Marshall, Jayden Matthew Ashby, and John Anthony Ashby; siblings, Carol Stiles,
Sandra Newsome, Edna Phillips, and Lynn "Happy" White.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Cinciarelli
and his brother, Jimmy White and his parents.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife and best

Horage Eugene Wilkerson age 89 of Mt. Sterling, Illinois
passed away at 2:40 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Heritage Manor Nursing

He was born October 21, 1922 in Brown County, Illinois the
son of Perry and Sally Lindsey Wilkerson.
Mr. Wilkerson was a lifelong Brown County farmer. He attended Hill School in Brown County and
graduated from Hersman High School with the class of 1940.
Horace was a veteran of World War II having served his
country in the United States Navy.
He was a member and Past Master of the Hardin Lodge No. 44
A.F. & A.M., the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374, the Brown County
VFW Post #1059, the Brown County Farm Bureau, and a lifelong member of the
Brown County Hunters Association.
Horace always enjoyed hunting, watching baseball and was an avid St.
Louis Cardinals fan.

Henry Taylor Winland, 87, of
40470 Sandbar Road, Lewisville, Ohio (Sycamore Valley community) died Tuesday,
April 12, 2011 at the V.A. Medical Center, in Huntington, West Virginia. He was
born at Zanesville, Ohio on September 22, 1923 a son of the late Hiram H. and
Lillian Hamler Winland.
He was a retired dairy
farmer, a United States Army veteran of World War II, and a faithful member of
the Hines Chapel Church of Christ near Sycamore Valley, Ohio. He was also a
member of the National Farmers Association; the National Rifleman's
Association; a former director of the Black Walnut Festival; and a member of
the Old Iron Power Club.
He enjoyed woodworking, and
built the world's largest lathe-turned rolling pin which is in the Guinness
Book of World Records. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, telling
stories, hunting and flying ultra-light airplanes.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by two daughters-in-law: Karen Winland and Debbie
Winland.
Surviving is his wife of 65
years, Mary R. Gosling Winland whom he married on March 24, 1946, four sons:
Wayne Winland, Donald Winland, Tom (Peg) Winland, and Jeff (Donna) Winland all
of Sycamore Valley, Ohio: ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

the Sistersville Center Nursing Home, Sistersville, W.Va. She was born April 9,
1926 at the Witten Farm, Sardis, Ohio, she was the youngest and last surviving
child of the late Fred and Maude Tuel Witten.
She was a 1944 graduate of
Stover High School, New Matamoras, Ohio.
She was a former employee of
the White Rubber Co., of Ravenna, Ohio, Moonlight Drive-In, Sardis, Ohio, and
the Witten Family Produce Farm. She was a member of the Witten Chapel and the
Sardis United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of
the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by one
daughter, Janet Witten Conn of Witten Farm, Sardis, Ohio; one grandson, Jeff
Conn of Georgetown, Ky.; one granddaughter, Jessica Conn of Blytheville, Ark.;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents
she was preceded in death by her brothers, Theodore, Joe, Elmer, Ralph, Bill
and John Witten; and two sisters, Margaret Hubbard and Mabel Adams.

Saturday, September 10 at 11 a.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, W.Va.,

BEVERLY - Glenn O. Wolfe, 84,
of Beverly, died Sunday (May 15, 2011) at his home. He was born March 27, 1927,
in Mayfield, Ill., son of Oris and Ruby McClure Wolfe. He was a farmer most of
his life and also managed Silver Heels Farm. He served in the U.S. Army during
WWII and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Liberty United
Brethren Church.
He was married Nov. 13, 1948,
to Betty J. Scott Wolfe, who survives. He is also survived by three children,
James Wolfe and wife, Vivian, of Greentown, Ohio, Linda Starr of North Carolina
and Melvin Edison Wolfe and wife, Penny, of Beverly; several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Emily Masters of Warren, Ohio, Laura Frank
of North Carolina and Lyda Gunter of Athens, Ohio; a stepbrother, Edison Wolfe
of Corning, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by
his parents; and a sister, Marcie.
Funeral services will be held
at 11 a.m. Thursday (May 19, 2011) at the Chapel at East Lawn Memorial Park in
Marietta with military services.
Visitation will be from 6 to
8 p.m. Wednesday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly.

Shirley Leon Wolfe, 75, of
Marietta, passed away on Saturday (July 23, 2011) at 10:25 p.m. at Marietta
Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 22, 1935,
in Pennsville, Ohio, a son of Oral and Ruby Wient Wolfe. He retired from
Marietta Concrete and Marietta Structures after 48 years. He was a member of
Moose Lodge 1823 for 50 years, the National Guards for 10 years and Wild Turkey
Federation. He loved hunting, fishing, his garden and giving everyone food from
his garden.
On June 1, 1957, he married
Regina Strahler Wolfe who survives with one daughter, Karen Schwendeman and her
fiance, Tom Dyar; two sons, Bill (Lisa) Wolfe, Terry (Catherine) Wolfe;
grandchildren, Jessica (Steven) Anderson, Gary (Tessa) Wolfe, Kristopher
(Lindsy) Wolfe, Amanda (fiance, Josh Geer) Schwendeman, Kaleb and Kourtney
Wolfe, Keith Schwendeman, Shannon Wolfe; great-grandsons, Brandan and Ryan
Huffman, Duncan Wolfe; and great-granddaughter, Madison Wolfe. Also surviving
are two sisters, Eileen (Dean) Gerber and Barbara (Bill) Smith; and
sister-in-law, Annebelle Wolfe.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his son, Mike Wolfe; and two brothers, Robert and
Gary Wolfe; and son-in-law, Bernie Schwendeman.
Funeral services will be held
on Wednesday (July 27) at 10:30 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home
with Pastor Robert Strahler officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn
Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon after
2 p.m. with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences are

Lucille* Hendershot Woodburn, 96, of Wheeling, WV., died Wednesday,
November 2, 2011 in Liza's Place, Wheeling.
She was
born December 19, 1914 in Malaga, OH the daughter of the late Harvey D. and
Louise Leach Hendershot. She was Valedictorian graduate of Beallsville High
School, Beallsville,OH.
She was
a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was a volunteer and a
member of the women's group and the JOY group.
In
addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F.
Woodburn in 1973; two brothers, Wilfred Hendershot, Donald Hendershot; two
sisters, Virginia Norman and Jeannette Gates.
Surviving are her children, Jane Costanzao (Lou) of Dallas, WV, Jack
Woodburn (Michelle) of Severn, MD and Jim Woodburn (Donna) of Dallas,WV; five
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends
were received at Christ United Methodist Church, on National Road, on Friday,
November 4th and then on Saturday, November 5th until the time of service at 2
p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Timothy J. Allen and the Reverend Margie Carr
officiation [sic–officiating].

ZANESVILLE: Fred Calvin Woodyard, 86, of Zanesville, died
at 1:16 a.m. Friday November 25, 2011 at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital.
He was born on January 15, 1925 in Chesterhill, Ohio. He
was retired from the United States Postal Service where he was a letter carrier
for 32 years. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He
was a longtime member of Woodlawn Ave. Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling
and reading historical books.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ruth Anderson
Woodyard of the home; three children David (Roxann) Woodyard of Bel Air,
Maryland, Gregg (Kathy) Woodyard of Huntsville, Alabama, and Regina (Jack)
Sprankel of Zanesville; six grandchildren Ashley (Josh) McWhorter, Alan (Anna)
Woodyard, Holly Jones, Nathan, Andrea, and Devin Sprankel. Three
greatgrandchildren Stefanie and Alexa Jones, and Lucas McWhorter; one sister
Faye James of Zanesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents A.O. and Ethel

Eunice Verona Henderlong
Workman, age 101, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Thursday May 12, 2011 at the
Woodsfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born near Sardis, Ohio May 9, 1910 a daughter of the late
Fred and Mary Rufener Henderlong.
Eunice graduated from Green
Rural High School at Laings, Ohio as Co-Valedictorian of her class in 1928. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodsfield for 53 years, was a
Sunday School Teacher, member of the choir and served in many other positions
in the Church. Eunice was not only a
dedicated Christian lady, but was a loving, kind, nurturing, patient, giving
mother.
Preceded in death by her
husband; Homer Mitchell Workman who she
married October 27, 1928, one son; Homer Elroy Workman, son-in-law; Tony Lee
“Johnny” Quails, four brothers; Louis, Harry, John, and Freddy Henderlong and
six sisters; Ella Yoss, Louise Roth, Minnie Long, Josephine Fox, Amelia Eddy,
and Elizabeth Rufener.
She is survived by her
daughter; Eunice Darlene Quails of Woodsfield, daughter-in-law; Caroline Lively
Workman of Woodsfield, six grandchildren; Trent Workman of Florida, Keith
(Katie) Workman of Dover, New Hampshire, Lisa (Richard) Stone of Pennsylvania,
Tony (Alma) Quails of Jacksonville, Florida, Angila (John) Hare of Louisville,
Kentucky, and Anita (Mark) Hoke of Laings, Ohio, ten great grandchildren; Leah
(Bill) Sikes, Anthony (Kumi) Quails, Nathan Quails, Brandon (Molly) Hare, Brian
Hare, Britney Hoke, Zachery Stone, Jeremy Stone, Philip Workman, Sophia

Josephine Elnora Dowden Boyd Workman, 92, of 137 Mayor Estates, Cambridge, Ohio,
passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at
the Autumn Healthcare in Cambridge, Ohio.
She was born on March 12, 1919 in Lake
View, Ohio, a daughter of the late Theodore Valentine and Maude Lilly (Slain)
Dowden. The family moved to Mt. Liberty, Ohio where she spent her formative
years.
Known as Jo to friends and family, she
met and married James Boyd in 1936, and was widowed in 1939, with one son,
David. She went to work for the White Cross Hospital and Timken Roller Bearing
Company in Columbus where she met Robert Workman, a soldier stationed in
Columbus (Fort Hayes). They were married in 1941 and had two sons, Stephen and
Gregory.
As a wife of a career soldier, she had
the full responsibility of raising her young family by herself for many years.
She overcame the many difficulties involved in frequently moving her young
family from location to location, even to Japan by ship in 1950.
Given her accomplishments over the years,
the one that brought the most joy to her was learning to drive and obtain a
driver’s license at the age of 65.
After Robert’s retirement from the
military the family moved to Monroe County, Ohio. While there Jo was involved
in church and community life and worked at the K V store in Woodsfield. Robert
died in 1985, and a few years later she moved to Cambridge to be closer to her
son, Stephen and his wife Cathy and their family.
In Cambridge, she enjoyed playing euchre
at the senior center. She also enjoyed being a help to others and often volunteered
at AARP or senior center functions. She loved her family and enjoyed when they
could visit. They always knew she would have fresh baked bread and there would
be homemade snicker doodle cookies in the freezer that delighted young and old
alike.
Jo was a member of the Woodsfield United
Methodist Church, Senior Citizens Center, Local AARP Chapter and Public
Employee Retirees, Inc.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husbands, James Boyd and Robert K. Workman, a brother, Herbert
Dowden and sisters, Ruth C. Hulse and Helen White.
She is survived by three sons: David
(Marna) Boyd of San Jose, CA, Stephen (Cathy) Workman of Byesville, Ohio, and
Greg (Rhonda) Workman of Woodsfield, Ohio, eleven grandchildren, six great
grandchildren, a brother, Harold (Mary) Dowden of Centerburg, and a sister,
Bonnie Parnell of Mount Vernon. Friends
will be received at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2 to 4 and 6 to
8 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church,
Woodsfield, Ohio with Pastor David Hull-Frye and Rev. William Moran
officiating.
Burial
will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield, Ohio.

Shadyside, Ohio, died Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Valley Hospice Care Center
South's Liza's Place in Wheeling, West Virginia.She was born September 18, 1927
on the family farm near Bethesda, Ohio, a daughter of the late Walter and Emza
McEndree Shook.
Luella was a home maker and
former book keeper for the former Farmers & Merchants and First National
Banks in Bellaire, Ohio. She was a member of the Lincoln Avenue Methodist
Church in Shadyside, Ohio and was active in the different women's groups in the
church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Shadyside Chapter
581 and the Hillview Garden Club.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Yates.
Surviving are her husband,
Burl Yates, Jr., who she married on August 1, 1948 in Bridge port, Ohio; her
son, Mark Yates and his finance', Sue Mertz of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters,
Dolores Burny and Nancy Fogle both of Columbus, Ohio. Also three grandsons,
Kelly (Hinda) Yates, Kyle (Emily) Yates and Kory Yates and two
great-granddaughters, Leilana and Benna.
Memorial visitation will be
held on Saturday October 15, 2011 from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11
a.m. at the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, Shadyside, Ohio with Rev.
Randy Weaver officiating.

CLARKSBURG — Wilma Joy Luzader Yoke, 86, known to most
people as Joy Yoke, formerly of East View, Clarksburg, WV, passed away on
Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Berks Heim Nursing Home, Leesport, PA.
Joy lived in Berks County, PA, near her daughter, Janice,
for over seven years, and moved to Berks Heim in May 2011 after an illness.
Joy was born in Clarksburg, WV, on October 20, 1924, a
daughter of the late John Welling Luzader and the late Ninnie Margaret Luzader.
Joy graduated from Roosevelt-Wilson High School in 1942.
She was a bookkeeper early in life; for most of her life she was a homemaker.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be sadly missed
by all who knew her.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 42 years, Willard
Edward Yoke, whom she married on December 23, 1945.
Joy was also preceded in death by her brother, John Perkins
Luzader of Clarksburg; her brother, Welling Jack Luzader of Florida; and her
sisters, Emma June Saeler and Verna Ellen Blackshire, both of Clarksburg.
Surviving are her daughter, Janice Grove and her husband
Tom of Reinholds, PA; her son, Willard Edward (Bill) Yoke and his wife Lynn of
Newport News, VA; two grandchildren, Jessica Marie Yoke Toone of Richmond, VA,
and Daniel Edward Yoke of Lucama, N.C.; and one great-grandchild, Kaya
Elizabeth Yoke of Lucama, N.C.
Joy was a lifelong member of the East View United Methodist
Church, where she had been a member of the adult church choir, director of the
children’s department, director of the children’s junior choir, director of
vacation Bible school and president of the women’s society.
Family and friends will be received at the Davis Funeral
Home, One Olen Thomas Drive, Rt. 98, Clarksburg, from 6-8 p.m. for a viewing on
Thursday, September 22, 2011, and from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011,
where services will be held at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Etheldean Yanero
officiating. Interment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in
Mount Clare, WV.
