Hi, just stopped by to say that you are doing a wonderful job, I found so many interesting things on the site that I didn't know where to start. Love the history of Monroe County. I am a member of MCCOGS and get the Navigator, I enjoy both and may soon be trying to make one of the meetings. Again keep up the good work. Gladys (Bolen)

Joined last year at the fair but have not heard anything since. Have the book (Monroe County Ohio) but it doesn't list much about the western side of Monroe County or have any thing about the underground railroad or the colored folks around Stafford.

I enjoyed your site. Being a few hundred miles away the Web lets me see a little of what is going on there. My mother is Beryl Knowlton (actually Lena Beryl Knowlton) the last, along with a few others of the Knowltons to own the Knowlton Covered Bridge. I am sending off an order for a few of your books and look forward to reading them.

I have made your site as one of my favorites. I have two families - Howel (Howell) & Huffman - which have roots in Monroe County. So far, I haven't been able to visit & look around. But that is in my plans for the near future. Thanks for the opportunity to visit Monroe County electronically. Janice Howell Edwards

It appears that by looking in the 1850 census of Monroe county Ohio I have more family than at first realized. I intend to join the Monroe/Ohio Genealogy Society and attempt research of the Melott family of Monroe.

I appreciate very much being able to visit your web site and will be doing so often. I am researching the family name Ullom/ Wollam/ Ullum/ Ulm. My husband's ggggrandfather lived in Wetzel Co. WV and I think they may have been in Monroe Co. OH. Thank you again. I will be very interested in hearing from anyone researching this family and will be glad to exchange information. Thank you

I do appreciate all the time you folks have put in. The task seems so awesome and mind-boggling. I do know a lot of records were destroyed in a fire. I am trying to find marriage records probably of the early 1830's or late 1820's for Henry G. Morris and Mary Kinkade. Would these be gone? Where else would I look?
There is one thing that would make this site easier for me and others. I have typed my name, e-mail, postal address, so far about 5 times. When I submit a query, then want to do another and push re-? (I forgot what) or clear form to clear the message section, is there anyway that our original information can be kept so we don't have to do that for a query on another person? Also if there is a marriage like MORRIS - KINKADE is there anyway to do both surnames or do we have to do the whole thing twice under the other name? Thanks again. Betty (Latta) Kitchen

I was thrilled to find your web site. I have been doing family research for ten years now and just began to do look at the internet sites. Monroe County has been a difficult research area for me. I have always had willing help from the Monroe County Society. I look forward to what it has to offer-great job!

Mallett, William McVay

I wanted to know about McVay's who lived in the Stafford area and Noble
County Harrietsville and Middleburg area. My grandfather was Guy Earl
McVay with brother Frank McVay in Stafford; Fred McVay in Akron; Jim
McVay in Dover; and sister Bertha McVay Hayes in Middleburg. Their
mother's name was Malissa King McVay, and husband William, I think.
Anyone out there connected to any of these? My father was William
McElfresh Mallett, born and bred in Monroe County.

Your site is great! It appears I have relatives that lived in your county. I've found that my ggggg grandfather was John Cary Headley who applied for his Rev. War pension while living in Monroe. I am descended through his daughter Experience. I am hoping to be able to find his grave. Thanks for being here to provide information!

This website is done very nice, I enjoyed looking through all of your information. Just passing by in hopes of locating some relatives. Genealogy is so exciting so I do enjoy searching on the www.

Morris, Russell S.

[email protected]

My ancesters settled along the Duck Creek in what is Noble Co now and around Stafford. Archibald Morris was the patriarch of my line and counting toward me: came, Wm. James, John, James F. Russell, Andy. These Morrises were intermarried with the Enochs, Archers, Dillons, Wells, etc. Much of the time these families migrated together as a group through Va., Pa., Ohio Co., Va. to Noble and Monroe Counties. What I really need is documentation that connects William to Archibald

I think your web site is excellent but frustrating. I have just found my great-great-grandparents living in Woodsfield, Center Twp. in 1880 with their 22 year old son. Josiah and Huldah Davis have been a "pain" to find. I checked the l870 census for the entire county at the National Archives today, and they aren't there then. Do you have anyone who does lookups (i.e. property records/ deeds/ tax records)? I would like to have someone contact me if they can do a lookup re this couple and their son. They sold property in Guernsey County in l869 and made a "fortune" for that time. I'm believing he bought more property somewhere! Could it be Belmont/ Monroe County? Thank you for your great website and looking forward to reading more as it comes online. Karen Davis Newstead ([email protected])

You have a very good website. I just found out that my great-great grandparents, Josiah and Huldah Davis, lived with their son Yager in Monroe County, Ohio, in the 1880 census. Could you please tell me if someone can do lookups for property records/taxes for Josiah and Huldah so that I can document their arrival time into the county and when they left. I know in the l860 census they were living in Guernsey Co. and left there probably in l869 (possibly l867). Are there a list of publications for sale regarding the county? Thank you so much. St.Clair, Mary

What a wonderful and helpful site. I am from IL and am searching my husband's family. (St.Clair/ Sinclair/ Sinklair etc.) and however else they decided to spell it that year. Being so far away it is impossible with my work schedule to travel to OH and sending off for records that may or may not be the right link is frustrating. Your site has tried to put as much as possible on the web. Keep up the good work. I have found John Sinclair that may be my John St.Clair. Thanks for the help.
