1. Isaac RUSH1 was born in 1785 in Pennsylvania.


BROWN CONNECTION:  11 Jul 1823 Joshua Brown of Little Britain, Lancaster County, PA, died at the age of 64.  He was the son of Joshua Brown and Hannah Gatchell.  In his will, he named as his beneficiaries, Sarah Brown, and "the children of Isaac Rush."  Joshua married Sarah Balderston Ely 25 Dec 1800 in Deer Creek Monthly Meeting, Maryland.  It was also in 1823 that the guardianship order of the children of Isaac was found in Monroe County, Ohio.  Researchers of the Brown family have cited no children for Joshua Brown, but there is definitely a connection between our Isaac and this Joshua Brown.

 

Elizabeth UNKNOWN was born about 1781 in Pennsylvania. She died between 1850 and 1860 at the age of 69. The marriage date is approximate based on the year of Jemima's birth. 


Elizabeth was Isaac's wife in the 1850 census, but some believe she is not the mother of his children.  If Elizabeth was Isaac's second wife, then he married her before 1830 as a female age 40-50 is in his household in that census.  Elizabeth and Isaac both apparently died before 1860 as they do not appear in the 1860 census.  Isaac and presumably Elizabeth are buried at Mt. Olive Church, Lee Twp, Monroe Co. OH. Isaac's headstone is a field stone with hand carved "Isaac Rush" and a symbol above it which I believe is simply an IR.  An identical stone is next to Isaac’s marker. It is crumbling and illegible.

A biographical sketch of Jemima Rush Clithero's son stated her parents were Isaac and Elizabeth Rush.

12. Jemima RUSH was born on 6 Mar 1806 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She died on 19 Jul 1881 at the age of 75 in Antioch, Perry Township, Monroe County, Ohio. She was buried in Antioch, Perry Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

John CLITHERO was born on 25 Nov 1803. He died on 9 Mar 1880 at the age of 76. Jemima RUSH and John CLITHERO were married on 7 Oct 1824 in Monroe County, Ohio. They appeared in the census in 1850 in Sunsbury Township, Monroe County, Ohio. Jemima RUSH and John CLITHERO had the following children:

 

121. Elizabeth CLITHERO was born on 25 May 1827.

 

122. Anne CLITHERO was born in 1830.

 

123. Rachel CLITHERO died on 20 Jan 183.

Jane POOL was born on 23 Dec 1843 in Monroe County, Ohio. Isaac M. CLITHERO and Jane POOL were married on 28 Jan 1869 in Grundy County, Illinois.

 

126. Sarah CLITHERO was born in 1835.

George G. BROCK was born in 1804. He died on 1 Jul 1876 at the age of 72 in Infirmary, Monroe County, Ohio. Elizabeth RUSH and George G. BROCK appeared in the census in 1850 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio. Elizabeth RUSH and George G. BROCK had the following children:

 

141. Jemima Jane BROCK was born on 12 Aug 1830 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 12 Sep 1870 at the age of 40 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

Joseph TISHER was born on 28 Feb 1827 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio. He died on 18 Sep 1887 at the age of 60 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

Julia NOT KNOWN was born on 29 Mar 1840. She died on 15 Nov 1860 at the age of 20. She was buried in Old Hannibal Cemetery, Monroe County, Ohio.

Sewell B. LITMAN was born in 1836. Rachel E. BROCK and Sewell B. LITMAN appeared in the census in 1870 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

146. Lousinda B. BROCK was born in 1843.

 

147. Prudance Ann BROCK was born on 3 Jun 1846 in Ohio. She died on 28 Mar 1916 at the age of 69 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio.5 She was buried on 30 Mar 1916.

15. Joshua B. RUSH was born in Apr 1812 in probably Lancaster County, PA.

Mary MELLOTT was born about 1815 in Ohio. She died between 1870 and 80 in Bartholomew County, Indiana. Joshua B. Rush served as administrator of Noah Malott's estate in 1862 Bartholomew County, Indiana.

Joshua B. RUSH and Mary MELLOTT were married about 1833. The Rush family moved to Bartholomew County, Indiana, in 1848. Joshua B. RUSH and Mary MELLOTT had the following children:

 

151. Jane RUSH was born in 1834 in Ohio.

Moses TRUAX was born in 1830 in Ohio. Jane RUSH and Moses TRUAX were married on 28 Aug 1856 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

 

152. John RUSH was born in 1836 in Ohio. Bartholomew County, IN Marriages - John M. Rush 1 August 1876 to Mary Taylor. Is John who married Lucinda Winland also the one who married Agnes Starr?  John and Agnes were married for 19 years in the 1900 census. John M. has a widowed daughter living with him, but it says Agnes has no children.  Could the above marriage been a third marriage for John that occurred between Lucinda and Agnes?  A John Rush sued Mary Rush for divorce and custody of a child in 1881.


Lucinda WINLAND, daughter of Moses WINLAND and Frances UNKNOWN, was born in 1838 in Ohio. John RUSH and Lucinda WINLAND were married on 28 Feb 1857 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

 

Agnes STARR was born in Sep 1841 in Ohio. John RUSH and Agnes STARR were married on 22 Jun 1882 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

 

153. Isaac W. RUSH was born in 1838 in Ohio. Richard also had a son named Isaac Rush who was the same age as Joshua's son.  But I believe the Isaac married to Amanda is Joshua's son as he is living next door to John in 1860.

Marriage record gives Isaac M. Rush rather than W.

 

Amanda DIETZ was born in 1840 in Ohio. Isaac W. RUSH and Amanda DIETZ were married on 7 Oct 1858 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

154. Lydia B. RUSH was born in 1840 in Ohio.

 

155. Noah M. RUSH was born in 1843 in Ohio. He died about 1911 at the age of 68.

 

Elizabeth UNKNOWN was born in 1848 in Ohio. Noah M. RUSH and Elizabeth UNKNOWN were married about 1866.

 

156. Theodore Thomas RUSH was born on 19 Nov 1845 in Monroe County, Ohio.6 He died on 27 Jan 1915 at the age of 69 in Bartholomew County, Indiana. He was buried in Daugherty Cemetery, Bartholomew County, Indiana. He was survived by four brothers and a sister when he died in 1915.

 

Jemima WINLAND, daughter of Moses WINLAND and Frances UNKNOWN, was born about 1843 in Ohio. She died on 7 Jan 1902 at the age of 59 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.6 She was buried in Daugherty Cemetery, Bartholomew County, Indiana. Theodore Thomas RUSH and Jemima WINLAND were married on 25 Jul 1869 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

 

Martha HICKS GRIDER was born on 13 Feb 1857 in Kentucky. Theodore Thomas RUSH and Martha HICKS GRIDER were married on 9 Feb 1908 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

 

157. Richard RUSH was born in 1849 in Ohio.

 

158. Lucy A. RUSH was born in 1855 in Indiana.

 

159. Polly RUSH was born in 1858 in Indiana.

 

16. Isaac RUSH II was born on 16 Apr 1816 in Ohio.7 Isaac died on 29 Dec 1893 at the age of 77 in Monroe County, Ohio. He was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

Amy BARKUS was born on 8 Feb 1819. She died on 24 Jan 1887 at the age of 67 in Monroe County, Ohio. She was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio. Isaac RUSH and Amy BARKUS had the following children:

 

161. Isaac O. RUSH was born in 1840.  Family tradition - Isaac fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy and never returned. An Isaac O. Rush served for the Union in the 11th Regiment of the WV Infantry.  He is listed as a deserter on 10 Dec 1861 at Wirt Courthouse, Elizabethtown, West Virginia.  No record after that date.

 

162. Elizabeth Ann RUSH was born on 30 Oct 1841 in Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 25 Jun 1911 at the age of 69 in Sardis, Monroe County, Ohio.5 She was buried on 26 Jun 1911 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

Jacob MELLOTT was born on 30 Mar 1837 in Monroe County, Ohio. He died on 3 Jun 1920 at the age of 83 in Little Hocking, Ohio.5 Wife at time of death - Helen McIntyre; father Jacob Mellot, mother unknown. Jacob was buried on 6 Jun 1920 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio. The informant on the death record was D. L. Rush.

163. Jacob RUSH was born in 1842. No additional information on him.  He doesn't appear in the 1850 census, so is this correct? A Jacob Rush did serve in the 7th WV Infantry.  This unit had several Monroe county people in it.  Could it be the same Jacob Rush or perhaps one from the Rush group that settled in Wetzel?

 

164. Mary Jane RUSH was born on 25 Dec 1844 in Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 8 Aug 1930 at the age of 85 in Ohio Township, Monroe County, Ohio.5 She was buried on 10 Aug 1930 in Hannibal, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

John Wesley HENTHORN was born in 1841.

 

165. Delilah RUSH was born on 26 Oct 1846. She died on 20 Nov 1898 at the age of 52.

 

Deming O. C. HENTHORN was born on 23 Apr 1845. Delilah RUSH and Deming O. C. HENTHORN were married on 16 Jan 1868.

 

166. John C. RUSH was born in 1849.

 

167. George G. RUSH was born on 27 Feb 1855 in Ohio. She died on 8 Apr 1929 at the age of 74 in Pultney Township, Belmont, Ohio.5 She was buried on 9 Apr 1929 in Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio. Monroe County Ohio


168. Albert Maywood RUSH was born on 12 May 1854. He died on 2 Aug 1900 at the age of 46.

 

Lavina Isabel MELLOTT was born (date unknown). Albert Maywood RUSH and Lavina Isabel MELLOTT were married on 2 Mar 1876 in Monroe County, Ohio.

 

169. Lorenzo Dow RUSH was born on 15 Dec 1857 in Jackson Township, Monroe County, Ohio. He appeared in the census in 1870 in Lee Township, Monroe, Ohio. He died on 7 Jul 1927 at the age of 69 in Wood County, West Virginia.8

 

Hannah Jane ANGUS, daughter of David ANGUS and Sarah Ann BAILEY, was born on 2 Sep 1859 in Rockport, Wood, West Virginia. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in 1884 in Jerrys Run, Wood, West Virginia. She died on 7 Feb 1923 at the age of 63 in Wood County, West Virginia.8

 

16A. Daniel Hayden RUSH was born on 5 Mar 1861. He died on 1 Aug 1929 at the age of 68 in Sardis, Monroe County, Ohio.5 He was buried on 4 Aug 1929.

 

Mary Isabel MYERS was born on 11 Aug 1863.7 She died on 20 Mar 1905 at the age of 41 in Center Township, Monroe County, Ohio. She was buried in West Union Cemetery, Perry Township, Monroe, Ohio. Daniel Hayden RUSH and Mary Isabel MYERS were married on 15 Aug 1880.

 

Mary CONLEY, daughter of Jesse CONLEY and Sarah MATTHES, was born on 10 Apr 1869 in Benwood, Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 24 Oct 1944 at the age of 75 in Monroe County, Ohio. She was buried in West Union Cemetery, Perry Township, Monroe, Ohio. Daniel Hayden RUSH and Mary CONLEY were married on 21 May 1911.

 

17. Richard RUSH was born in 1819 in Ohio. He died on 1 Feb 1862 at the age of 43 in Berkley County, West Virginia. Spirit of Democracy Woodsfield, Ohio, dated, April 9 1862
      DIED – At Camp Beck Creek, Berkley County, Va., on Sunday morning 16th last,. Mr. RICHARD RUSH, of Adams Township, this county, aged about 42? years.  The deceased was a member of Company G, Seventh Regt. Va. Volunteers.  He leaves a wife and 6 children to mourn his loss.  His remains were interred near Beallsville, followed by a large number of friends and neighbors.

 Mary A. UNKNOWN was born in 1823 in Virginia. Richard RUSH and Mary A. UNKNOWN were married about 1837. Richard RUSH and Mary A. UNKNOWN had the following children:

 

171. Isaac S. RUSH was born in 1838 in Monroe County, Ohio. He died in 1864 at the age of 26 in Bartholomew County, Indiana. Court of Common Pleas Bartholomew County, Indiana - Isaac S. Rush (dec'd) Box 90, 1864, Mary Ann P. Rush, widow, settlement under $300 law Middle initial S from probate record.  I added it here to distinguish between all of the Isaacs. I'm assigning this marriage to this Isaac because Isaac son of Joshua was in Indiana by this date and I can find no documentation for Isaac O., son of Isaac II.  Also Richard's family lived in Sunsbury Township

There is only one child identified for Isaac and Mary:  Alice born 1861.

Bartholomew County, IN probate - Isaac S. Rush 1864 - Mary Ann Rush widow.

Mary Ann WORKMAN was born in 1832 in Ohio. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Columbus, Bartholomew, Indiana.

Isaac S. RUSH and Mary Ann WORKMAN were married on 30 Aug 1860 in Adams Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

172. Nancy J. RUSH was born in 1842.

 

173. Salathiel RUSH was born in 1846. There's a Salathiel Rush who married in Melisaa Huffman in 28 Apr 1866 in Belmont County.  Is this Salathiel s/o Richard?

Salathiel Rush buried Armstrong Mills.  1837-1887 Co. F 63 OVI, Melissa 1839-1913.  Also buried there John S. Rush 1877-1948, Cora M. 1883-1966.

Prudance MORRIS, daughter of Richard MORRIS and Mary UNKNOWN, was born on 9 Sep 1825 in Beallsville, Monroe County, Ohio.7 Slater Benson RUSH and Prudance MORRIS had the following children:

182. Richard M. RUSH was born on 14 Feb 1847 in Monroe County, Ohio. He died on 2 Jan 1917 at the age of 69 in Marshall County, West Virginia. No other information is given on the death record. 1890 lived Ravensrock, WV

Flouancy ELSON, daughter of James ELSON and Harriet FERREL, was born about Jun 1850 in Ohio. She died on 28 Feb 1911 at the age of 60 in Moundsville, Marshall County, West Virginia. Other records list her name as Ellson. Richard M. RUSH and Flouancy ELSON were married on 26 Sep 1868 in Monroe County, Ohio.

 

183. Caroline Emma RUSH was born on 29 Aug 1849 in Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 8 Dec 1924 at the age of 75 in Belmont County, Ohio.12–13 She was buried on 11 Dec 1924 in Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio. Monroe County Marriages:  Emma C. Rush to William Knight 1868. Christopher Conley applied for the license.

1870 Census - In Household of Slater & Prudance.  Caroline Knight 20, helps mother.  Catherine Knight 1.

Monroe County, Marriages:  Henry F. Mellott to Emma C. Knight 1871. James Mellott applied for the license.


 

William KNIGHT died about 1870. Caroline Emma RUSH and William KNIGHT were married on 6 Sep 1868.

 

Henry MELLOTT was born (date unknown). Caroline Emma RUSH and Henry MELLOTT were married on 31 Dec 1871 in Monroe County, Ohio.

 

184. Elizabeth A. RUSH was born on 12 Sep 1854 in Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 31 Jan 1946 at the age of 91 in Belmont County, Ohio.5 Elizabeth was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Bellaire, Ohio. Tombstone - 1856 - 2/3/1946 -Rush Funeral Home.

 

Joseph EDDY Jr., son of Joseph EDDY and Mrs. EDDY, died before 1880. Elizabeth A. RUSH and Joseph EDDY Jr. were married on 24 Dec 1873 in Monroe County, Ohio.

 

William Harrison BUNFILL was born in 1830. William died on 19 Nov 1905 at the age of 75. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Bellaire, Ohio.

Elizabeth A. RUSH and William Harrison BUNFILL were married on 6 Mar 1880 in Monroe County, Ohio.


185. Jemima J. RUSH was born on 29 Jan 1856 in Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 30 May 1896 at the age of 40. She was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

George FAGERT, son of Michael FAGERT and Teickla WEISERT, was born in 1843. George died on 31 Aug 1926 at the age of 83 in Wetzel County, West Virginia.8 Wife at the time of his death was Alice Hutchison. He was buried in Harter Cemetery, Ohio Township, Monroe, Ohio. Jemima J. RUSH and George FAGERT were married on 6 Feb 1870 in Monroe County, Ohio.

 

186. William RUSH was born on 26 Jun 1857 in Sardis, Monroe, Ohio. He died on 4 Mar 1923 at the age of 65 in Sardis, Monroe County, Ohio.5 William was buried on 6 Mar 1923 in Sardis Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

Catharine J. JONES, daughter of Daniel O'Connor JONES and Sarah Ann WILKINSON, was born on 17 Jul 1855 in Laings, Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 26 Sep 1949 at the age of 94 in Lee Township, Monroe, Ohio.5 William RUSH and Catharine J. JONES were married on 1 Apr 1887 in Monroe County, Ohio.

 

187. Willas RUSH was born on 26 Jun 1857 in Monroe County, Ohio. He died on 2 Sep 1933 at the age of 76 in Marshall County, West Virginia.14 The death record identifies his parents as Slater Rush and Prudance Cletheo.  Probably someone confused Prudy's last name with the name of Willis's sister, Jemima Clithero. Mary Elizabeth Rush, wife of Willis Rush, died 6 Aug 1937 Glendale, Marshall, WV.  She was born in 1857, d/o Parry Baker & Julia Ann Dunn.  Would this be a second wife of Willis?

 

Mary Emily MELLOT was born on 20 Aug 1862. She died on 26 Feb 1898 at the age of 35. She was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio. Willas RUSH and Mary Emily MELLOT were married on 4 Mar 1883 in Monroe County, Ohio.

 

188. Mary Belle RUSH9 was born on 5 May 1862 in Monroe County, Ohio. She died on 7 Jun 1942 at the age of 80 in Monroe County, Ohio. She was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

 

Samuel Grimshaw JONES, son of Daniel O'Connor JONES and Sarah Ann WILKINSON, was born on 1 Feb 1860 in Laings, Monroe County, Ohio. He died on 4 Jun 1940 at the age of 80 in Monroe County, Ohio.5 He was buried on 6 Jun 1940 in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lee Township, Monroe County, Ohio. Mary Belle RUSH and Samuel Grimshaw JONES were married on 20 Mar 1890 in Monroe County, Ohio.

18A. Slater Benson RUSH was born on 4 Aug 1867 in Monroe County, Ohio. He died on 9 Jun 1930 at the age of 62 in Sistersville, Tyler County, West Virginia.15 He was buried on 11 Jun 1930 in Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville, West Virginia.

 

Goldie ANDERSON was born in 1895 in West Virginia. Slater Benson RUSH and Goldie ANDERSON were married about 1921.

 

Mary STINE was born in 1882. She died between 1910 and 1920 at the age of 28. Slater Benson RUSH and Mary STINE were married on 26 Feb 1893 in Monroe County, Ohio.
