3.  LEVI3 WILLIAMS (THOMAS W.2, THOMAS S.1) was born 07 March 1811 in Green County, Pennsylvania, and died 12 February 1879 in Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio.  He married LUCINDA COOPER 01 September 1841 in Tyler County, Virginia, daughter of ZACHARIAH COOPER and CHLOE TOWNE.  She was born 08 January 1826 in Green County, Pennsylvania, and died 17 March 1893 in Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

Notes for LUCINDA COOPER:

The birth year on Lucinda's tombstone is 1823, the same year as Sarah Jane Cooper, wife of Levi's brother Jacob. I believe them to be sisters, so a roadblock exists in determing which is correct. Since the date in the probate office (1826) disputes the tombstone date (1823), is it possible Sarah Jane and Lucinda were twins?

Children of LEVI WILLIAMS and LUCINDA COOPER are:

           i.  CHARLOTTE4 WILLIAMS, b. 1843, Tyler County, Virginia.

6.       ii.  MALISSA WILLIAMS, b. 24 July 1844, Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio; d. 15 January 1921, Bethel Township,  Monroe County, Ohio.

iii.  WILLIAM THOMAS WILLIAMS, b. Abt. 1846, Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio; d. 20 January 1847, Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio.

Notes for WILLIAM THOMAS WILLIAMS:

According to his tombstone, William died 20 January 1847 at the age of 1 year, 11 months and 26 days. This calculates to a birthdate of 25 January 1845. Since his sister, Malissa, was born in July of 1844, it is highly unlikely they were born only six months apart. It appears much more likely he was born in 1846 - possibly 25 January 1846.

5.  SUSANNA3 WILLIAMS (THOMAS W.2, THOMAS S.1) was born 1815 in Green County, Pennsylvania, and died 24 August 1891 in Monroe County, Ohio.  She married (1) JAMES N. HAYES Abt. 1835 in Monroe County, Ohio, son of ISAAC HAYES and MARY MITCHELL.  He was born 1800 in Virginia, and died Abt. 1867 in Monroe County, Ohio.  She married (2) JOSEPH ELLIS 07 April 1868 in Jackson Township, Monroe County, Ohio.  He was born 19 April 1784 in Delaware, and died 15 July 1868 in Wayne Township, Monroe County, Ohio.  She married (3) REASON KENDALL 25 October 1870 in Monroe County, Ohio, son of WILLIAM KENDALL and JULIANA BARNHOUSE.  He was born 1818 in Ohio, and died 1898 in Woodsfield, Ohio.

Notes for SUSANNA WILLIAMS:

From the notes of Karen Romick:

Joseph Ellis' will of July 1868 gave wife Susannah Ellis 1/4 part of his real estate and the personal property she brought with her: 1 cow, 1 side saddle, household goods. His children were Nathan A. Ellis, Jane Rankin, Citty A. Oden, grandson John Oden and Thomas Moore, who lived with him and wife Elizabeth (according to Elizabeth's will in 1867).

In 1860 Susanna Hayes, 46 OH, was living with Cyrus Salsberry and Sarah J. 19 PA, and son James W.  in Grandview Township., Washington Co. OH.

Francis M. Hayes 12 was living with George Salsbury.

Phebe Hayes, 16, was living in the home of Nathan Daly.

Notes for JAMES N. HAYES:

Courtesy of Karen Romick:

James N. Hayes appeared on the 1840 in Tyler County (West) Virginia census.

And from Terry Howard (TCH6535@@aol.com)

Relationship from James to Samuel is not definitely proven.  But there appears to be enough evidence to make this assumption.  For one, Samuel is the same age as the Samuel, s/o James in the 1850 census.  Samuel lived in Perry Township, which is where James had settled and lived in 1850.  Family tradition claims a family relationship between Samuel and William, s/o James.  William T. Hays of Pleasants & Tyler Co. "waded across the Ohio River with his family to visit his family in Antioch."  Samuel lived near Antioch.

1850 census of Monroe County, Ohio:

James Hays 50 VA, Susanna 35 PA, Samuel 14 PA, Isaac 12, Sarah 9, Phebee 5, William 3, Francis 3/12.

James Hays 60 VA, living in the home of Isaac and Nancy Phillips of Perry Township in the 1860 census appears to be the same James.   Nancy Hays Phillips was the sister of James Hays.  Her ancestry was recorded in notes left by her daughter.

Susanna Williams Hays and some of the children were living in Washington County, Ohio in 1860. Susanna daughter Sarah Salsberry, Phebe and Francis were living in separate homes.  Samuel and William are unaccounted for in the 1860 census.  Isaac Hays was living next to Levi Williams in Wayne Township. Monroe Co. OH.  Susanna later moved to Wayne Township.

According to a biography of William T. Hayes in West Virginia Soldiers and Statesmen, William’s father James Hays was a Black Hawk War Veteran.  I have been unable to find any records to verify this.

Notes for JACOB PARRY HIGHMAN:

Source: The Spirit of Democracy, dated, Thursday, August 21, 1902

Last Friday, August 15, 1902, Jacob Parry Highman, John Gatten and Harry Highman of Edwina were squirrel hunting. In some accidental manner Gatten discharged his gun, the ball entering Jacob Highman's stomach, passed through his body and out at the small of his back. The ball struck Harry Highman's hat, but did not injure him. Highman was taken home and Dr. A.F. Latta of

Graysville and Dr. F.C. Huth of Woodsfield were summoned but the wound was of such nature as to defy all medical skill and the unfortunate young man died Friday night.

Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Highman and was fifteen years of age. He leaves father, mother and other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. The funeral took place Saturday. Interment at the Conner church cemetery.
