Members of MCC of OGS and visitors to this site have submitted a variety of announcements such as marriages, births, special events, reunions, etc. that were important to families and individuals of the period. Matz, Wilfred & Dortha (Kahrig) Matz

Published--April 12, 2001   50th Anniversary
    Wilfred and Dortha (Kahrig) Matz, 150 E. Henry St. Dalton, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 25. They were married in 1951 at St. Peter's Evangelical Church, Lewisville, by Rev. George Varns.
    They are the parents of Donnie (Fran) Matz, Dalton, Linda (Donis) Kirk, Orville, Tim (Jackie)Matz, London, Carol (Blaine) Immel, Wooster; five grandchildren complete the family.
    "Whitey" retired from K & B Transport, Inc., in 1997. He enjoys golfing and his computer.
    "Dot" is employed as manager of The Dalton Dari-Ette. She enjoys working, cleaning and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
     The couple celebrated their anniversary with family on March 31 at the Town-Country Resturant in Wooster.

Marriage

Sams-Bach
Catherine Diane Sams and Jason Erik Bach exchanged marriage vows during an open church ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31, 2002, at Gilman United Methodist Church in Marietta. Max Winland, the bridegroom's uncle, officiated for the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Richard and Diana Sams of Marietta. The bridegroom is the son of Kenneth and Marcia Bach of Lewisville, Ohio. He is the grandson of Laura Bach. Wedding selections were provided by Norma Dennis, organist. The bride was presented in marriage by Rick Sams, her brother. She wore an A-line gown with metallic silver embroidery that featured double spaghetti straps on the shoulders. Her headpiece was a silver tiara with mini pearls and crystals. The bride carried a nosegay cluster of purple and white stock, purple lisianthus, white stephanotis, white freesia and ruscus foliage. Maid of honor was Christine Buchanan. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Schenkel, Mary Ann Ware, Deanna Martindale and Tina Berga. They wore platinum A-line gowns with spaghetti straps and carried nosegay clusters of purple and white stock and ruscus foliage. Flower girl was Jenna Cowgill, the bride's cousin. She carried a Longaberger basket designed with a fresh arrangement to match the bridal attendants'
bouquets. Best man was Jason Hummel. Groomsmen were David Lamatrice, Tony Martin, Brian Martindale and Mike Blagg.
Ringbearer was Tyler Wise, the bride's cousin; and Claye Hummel. Guests were registered by Melissa Pracht. A reception followed at the Comfort Inn of Marietta. The bride is a 1994 graduate of Marietta High School, a 1999 graduate of Marietta College with a B.S. degree in sports medicine, and a 2002 graduate of Marshall University with a master's of science degree in exercise science. She is an exercise physiologist at Charleston Area Medical Center. The bridegroom is a 1993 graduate of Skyvue High School and a 1997 graduate of Marietta College with a B.S. degree in geology. He is a drilling engineer at Columbia Natural Resources. After a wedding trip to Aruba, the couple are residing in Teays Valley, W.Va.

Bradford
Jerry and Stacy Bradford of Marietta announce the birth of their daughter,
Shallyn Mackenzie Bradford. She was born at 2:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches long.  Grandparents are Willis and Betty Anderson of Graysville, Audrey Cross of Waverly, W.Va., and the late Jerry Bradford. Great-grandparents are Floyd and Dorothia Hall of Graysville, Myra Anderson of Woodsfield and Iva Lauderman of Vienna, W.Va.

Hines-Haines
Julie Hines and Daniel Haines II were united in marriage on Dec. 8, 2002, during an outdoor ceremony in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Minister Walter Conradson officiated for the ceremony.  The bride is the daughter of Robert and Joyce Hines of Lewisville. She is the granddaughter of Pauline Hercher of Sycamore Valley and Marjorie Hines of Lewisville. The bridegroom is the son of Donna Van Meter of Hilliard and Daniel Haines of Mount Vernon. He is the grandson of Ruth Ann Haines of Washington Court House. The bride is a 1993 graduate of Skyvue High School and a 1997 graduate of Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in paralegal studies.  The bridegroom is a 1989 graduate of Worthington High School and a 1996
graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in management information systems.  Both are currently employed at MCI WorldCom; the bride as a contract analyst, and the bridegroom as a software developer.  The couple spent their honeymoon on a Caribbean cruise. They are residing in Hilliard.

Matz, Walter and Mary Matz

50th wedding anniversary

        Walter S. and Mary L. Matz, 10730 Palmer Road, Hopewell, 43746, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house 2 to 4 p.m. May 29 at Celebrations by Sallie! in Ashland. Cards are welcome, but it is requested gifts be omitted.

        Matz and Mary L. Jacobs were married May 30, 1954, in Woodsfield.  Floyd A.English officiated the ceremony.

        They are the parents of Cheryl Briggs of Ashland, Susan Jones of Hayesville, Robert and Richard Matz of Hopewell and the late Tom Matz.

        They also have 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

        Mary is retired from Ohio Department of Transportation in Ashland.  Walter is retired from Eagle Rubber Co. in Ashland and Akro Corporaton Shelby/Zanesville Plants.

102nd Birthday

James "Frank" Ricer

James Franklin "Frank" Ricer will celebrate his 102nd birthday today( July 8, 2005)

A potluck picnic and card party is planned 11a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30 at Brookside Park for family and friends.

Mr. Ricer was born in Woodsfield to Mr. and Mrs. Jocab Ricer.

He and his wife, the former Dorothy Carol Briggs Ricer, and their six children moved to Ashland in 1942.

He was employed at Union Mallable until his retirement in 1968.

 

Steven Gregory Byers & Julie Lynn Schmidt – marriage

Schmidt , Julie Lynn and Steven Gregory Byers were united in marriage on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Sardis United Methodist Church with Reverend Richard Wilson officiating. Parents of the couple are Charles and Linda Schmidt and Jim and Vicky Byers of Sardis. Gwenna Dunson and Melissa Vayhinger served as matrons of honor and Melanie Linardi was maid of
honor. Ryan Schmidt served as best man. Other attendants were Alexis Schmidt, Angela Brown, Amanda Vayhinger, Angie VanCamp, Cory Willis, Chris Simon, Ronnie Harmon, Brad Parsons, Drew Linardi and Brian Boan. Zade Adkins served as ring bearer. Zander Schmidt was the bell ringer and announced the coming of the bride. The bride and groom are both graduates of River High School and The Ohio State University. The bride is employed as a teacher and coach at Reynoldsburg Junior High School. Her husband is employed in management with Tractor Supply Company in Marion, Ohio. Following a honeymoon to
Punta Cuna in Dominican Republic, the couple will reside in Westerville, Ohio.

Bart Henry Lehman & Renee Marie Bauer – marriage

Renee Marie Bauer and Bart Henry Lehman were united in marriage August 27, 2005 at 3:30 p.m., at Saint John United Church of Christ, in Powhatan Point, with the Reverend Alex Tychkin officiating. Parents of the bride are Ray and Becky Bauer of Wheeling. The groom's parents are Gary and Laura Lehman of Powhatan Point.

Jill West and Melissa Melgary were maids of  honor and Nathan Lehman and Trivun Vucelich served as best men. Bridesmaids were Missy Barcus, Dana Bauer, Neeta Mehrotra, Shermaine Jones and Ronica Brown. Sadie Janus and Ali Bauer were junior bridesmaids.

Other attendants were Kayla Stephens, Michelle Tolbert and Delayne Sniadoski. Groomsmen were Eric Glasco, Beau Martin, Jimmy Lehman, Corey Weeks and Randy Thomas. Jim Strickland and Chris Sisson were ushers. Tessa, Kenzie and Faith Bauer were flower girls and Zachary Janus, Cody and Bryce Bauer, ring bearers.

The bride is a 2001 graduate of Wheeling Central High School and a 2005 graduate of Scott College of Cosmetology. She is employed by Fiesta Hair Salon, Wheeling. Her husband is a 2000 graduate of River High School and owner/operator of Lehman Landscape and Concrete, Powhatan Point. Following a Hawaiian cruise, the couple will reside in Powhatan Point.

Rickey Lee Oliver II & Cortne Lynn Bunting - marriage

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bunting and Mr. and Mrs. Rickey Oliver I of Barnesville. Brande Carpenter was matron of honor and Ronnie Oliver served as best man. Brynne Carpenter and Blayne Carpenter were flower girls and Owen Oliver and Gavin Carpenter were ring bearers. Kelly Burkhart attended the guest book and Jill Johnson was soloist. Bryson Stephen and Katie Stephen were in charge of programs, balloons and bubbles. A reception was held in the Barnesville Elks. The bride is a 2000 graduate of Barnesville High School and is employed by Riesbecks of Barnesville. Her husband is a 2000 graduate of Barnesville High School and is employed by Detroit Diesel in Cambridge. The couple will reside in Barnesville with their son Owen.

Jessica Lynn Ramsay & Jeremy Lee Crawford – engagement

The bride-to-be is a 1997 graduate of River High School and a 2000 graduate of Belmont Technical College. She is employed by Outback Steakhouse. Her fiance is a 1997 graduate of River High School and a 2000 graduate of Belmont Technical College. He is a member of The United States Air Force, stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Clinton, Maryland. A July 30 wedding is being planned.

Ramsay, Earl & Olive Murphy Ramsey - 67th Wedding Anniversary

Ramsay , Mr. and Mrs. Earl will celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary August 30. They were united in marriage August 30. 1938, at the home of the bride's parents by the Reverend Floyd Childs. Ramsay, son of the late Ellis and Carrie Ramsay, is a retired dairy farmer. His wife, Olive, is the daughter of the late Oliver and Adda Murphy. They have three children: Eleanor Smith and her husband David of Glen Dale, West Virginia, Fred and his wife Cathy of Jacobsburg and Jean Fulton and her husband Tom of Saint Clairsville. They also have five grandchildren, Lisa Phares of Morgantown, Anna Marie Smith of Glen Dale, Brenda Ramsay-Ogdon of San Diego, California, Tim Ramsay of Shadyside and John Fulton of Saint Clairsville.  Great-grandchildren are Amber and Zachary Phares, Breanna and Brandon Cain. The couple resides at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 37930 Airport Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.

 

Fraley, Wayne & Helen Fraley - 60th Wedding Anniversary

POWHATAN POINT -- Wayne and Helen Fraley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary August 25. They were united in marriage in 1945 at Armstrongs Mills. A party was held on August 28 in their honor at the home of their only child, Linda Lucas of Powhatan with family and friends in attendance. They have two granddaughters, Lisa (Scott) Baker of Barnesville and Tricia (Sam Baker) Lucas of Powhatan and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Bailey Baker of Barnesville. They have three nieces, Joan (Albert) Caldwell of Jacobsburg, Bird (Larry) Skidmore of Powhatan and Shirley John Ferry of Leetonia.

Jeanie Hughes attended the guest book. Tabitha Reid was flower girl and Blake Reid was ring bearer. The bride is a 1988 graduate of Barnesville High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Wheeling Jesuit in 1999. She was stationed on the USS Harry S. Truman CVN 75 and is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran. Her husband is a 1997 graduate of Beallsville High School and attended Belmont Technical College studying criminal justice. He is employed with the State of Ohio at Noble Correctional Institution as a correction officer. Following a wedding trip to Virginia Beach and Gatlinburg, Tennessee., the couple will reside in the Monroe County area.

Kowalczk, Mr. and Mrs. John Kowalczk - 63rd   Wedding Anniversary

Woodsfield -- Mr. and Mrs. John Kowalczk Jr. are celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary September 12. They were united in marriage September 12, 1942 by the late Rev. Andrew Wilczek of the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Weirton. Kowalczyk is the son of the late John and Czeslawa Kowalczuk Sr. He served in the Army, Army Air Corps, Antiaircraft Artillery
during World War II and Air Force of the Korean War assigned to bomber base Mildenhall, England. He was awarded an Air Medal with oak leaf cluster and a European Ribbon with four battle stars. He retired as lieutenant colonel from the military and as fire inspector from the former Cosolidated Aluminum Corp., Hannibal. His wife, Angela, is the daughter of the late Anthony and Sophia Haraczy. She was an employee of the C&P Telephone Company, Weirton, and a sales clerk in the children's department of the former Stone & Thomas store of Wheeling. They are parents of a son, Michael A. of Windham, Conn. and two daughters, Joan A. of Wheeling and Denise K. Anderson, Lakeland, Florida. They have two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

Amanda Marie Patterson - Anthony Scott Palmer - Engagement

Her fiance is a 1997 graduate of Beallsville High School and a 2001 graduate of Belmont Technical College, with a degree in civil engineering. He is self-employed. A September 17 wedding is planned.

with a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of

. He is a fourth year medical student at Wright State University.
A Sept. 24 wedding is planned at the First Presbyterian Church in Shadyside.

Barbour of New Port Ritchey, Fla., and Elizabeth Helmsing of El Paso, Texas.
The groom is the son of Robin and David Day of Jacobsburg. Carrie Koonce was
maid of honor. Terry Koonce served as best man. Other attendants were Erin
Day, Beth Stokes, Chris Koonce, Donald Stokes III, Brandon Noles and Morgan
Kuhn. A reception was held at the Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department. The
couple will reside in Powhatan Point .

Evans of Rayland and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Evans of Beallsville. Parents of
the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Gary Kosky of Bellaire. Erica Evans, sister of
the bride, was maid of honor. Thomas Kosky, brother of the groom, served as
best man. Other attendants were Patricia Kosky, sister of the groom; Sarah
Schimmoeller; Jacquelynn Mathis; Andrew Kosky, brother of the groom; Douglas
Kosky, brother of the groom; Luke Kopyar; Taylor Blumling; Morgan Blumling;
Chandler Kilburn, stepbrother of the bride; Natalie Kosky; Kim Leonard;

Ballroom, Wheeling Park. The bride is a 1998 graduate of St. John Central

and a 2002 graduate of The Ohio State University, with a
bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in accounting. She is
a senior certified public accountant at Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP in
Columbus. Her husband is a 1998 graduate of St. John Central High School and
a 2002 graduate of The Ohio State University, with a bachelor's degree in
consumer affairs and economics. He is employed by This Week Community
Newspapers in Columbus as an advertising account executive. After a wedding
trip to Maui and Kauai, Hawaii, the couple will reside in Columbus.

 

Valentine, Dale & Mary Ball Valentine, 50th Wedding Anniversary

Valentine , Dale and Mary Valentine of 50702 State Route 7, New Matamoras,
Ohio will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
The couple was married on September 10, 1955 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Dale
was the son of the late John and Ida Cochran Valentine of New Matamoras.
Mary was the daughter of the late Howard and Odessa Jones Ball of Sardis.
For 22 years, the couple owned and operated Valentine's Greenhouse and
Market in New Matamoras. Dale later retired from the Bayer Corporation in
New Martinsville and Mary was a former employee of the Monroe County Welfare
Department in Woodsfield.
They are the parents of three children: Terry of Columbus, Susan (Keith)
Mason of Marietta, and Larry (Gay) of New Matamoras. Seven grandchildren
complete the family circle: Stephanie Valentine of Bowling Green, Ohio,
Elizabeth, Matthew and Ben Mason of Marietta, and Seth, Lance and Grant
Valentine of New Matamoras. A family gathering will be celebrated at a later
date.

 

Brandi Marie Miller-- Joshua Steven Hobbs – Engagement

      Danny and Brenda Miller of Sardis are proud to announce the engagement
of their daughter, Brandi Marie to Joshua Steven Hobbs.  Brandi is a teacher in the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District and is completing her Master's Degree in Education at Marietta College.
      Josh is the son of Diane and Johnny Greenwell of Elizabethtown,
Kentucky and Lester and Ellen Hobbs of Louisville, Kentucky. He is currently employed at Horizontal Archery.
      The couple is residing in Hannibal, Ohio and plan a wedding for July
