Tuscarawas County, Ohio

I am researching the following surnames in Tuscarawas County, Ohio:  Kaiser (sometimes spelled Keiser and Kiser), Edmonds, Simmers, Rupard/Rupert, from the early 1800s to now.  (also Warner and Waltons of early Tuscarawas County)

It looks as though the Simmers were among the first settlers of Tuscarawas County, with Isaac and Rebecca Simmers arriving late fall 1805 to the first English-speaking settlement that was known as Beersheba, near what is now Lock Seventeen, about a half mile south of Gnadenhutten, Tuscarawas County.  My Edmonds descended from Peter Edmonds who arrived in 1799.   The Simmers and the Edmonds, as well most of the earliest settlers of Tuscarawas County, were Moravians from Gnadenhutten, on the Mahoning, Pennsylvania.

In 1796, the Moravian Society in Bethlehem, PA was granted land in what is now Tuscarawas County, Ohio in order to bring the gospel to the Indians.  During the winter of 1798, there were only nine white and forty Indians in all of Tuscarawas County.  The year 1799 brought more more pioneers, including the Warner, Walton, Greer, and Peter families.  (The Warner and Walton families can be found intermixed with my Simmers.)  The early years of the 19th century brought even more men, women, and children.

My Kaisers in Tuscarawas County are more of a mystery right now.  I am looking for information on a John Kiser who was born in Switzerland and his wife Catherine Swalley.  I believe John's parents  may have been Martin Kiser and Ursula Tschudy who were from Switzerland (possibly arriving in 1816; they may have been from the canton of Basel, Switzerland).   There are many spellings of the name Kaiser in Tuscarawas County, and seemingly many different families with the name.  To compound the problem, Grandpa Kaiser always said that his family had a fight and some dropped the "a" in the name and became Kiser.  (However, I'm beginning to think it may have been the other way around, since John's records are ususally spelled Kiser, and I have one son who used the Kiser spelling and one -- ours -- who spelled it Kaiser)

I haven't done as much yet with the Rupert, Warner, and Walton lines yet.  So many branches, so little time!
