Alsace-Lorraine (German - Elsass-lothringen) was the name given to the 5,067 square miles (13,123 square km) of territory that was ceded by France to Germany in 1871 after the Franco-German War.area comprising the present French departments of Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, and Moselle. This territory was retroceded to France in 1919 after World War I, was ceded again to Germany in 1940 during World War II, and was again retroceded to France later.
So, in the time of this Helm family, it was in France. From this, in 1717, the area was probably in France.

There were French Huguenots in the Caribbean.

Many of the names are often confused and inaccurately reported. Using Monnet as an example, besides Monnet(t), there are: Mane, Manee, Manes, Maura, Monet, Monete, Mone, Money, Moneys, Monsey. Monrah, Mooney, Monty, Murnet, Manety, Maury, and sometines the "n" and "t" are doubled. In a lot of cases, the diacritical marks on letters were often missing. There are many opportunities to misspell those names. Marion is the source of the famed Desert Fox by that name. Tye French had adopted that "De" form as part of Surnames.

Perhaps this small item will generate some others.
