Martha Ann REID, Samuel's wife is believed to have been born in Lambeg,Antrim, Northern Ireland. The River Lagan flowed alongside the villageand it was because of the river and the damp climate of the Lagan Valley,that flax was first grown there. This resulted in Lambeg becoming acentre for the linen industry in the area. Samuel HERRON was said to havebeen a linen weaver and so it is very likely that he was born in the samearea. Lambeg parish is partly in the baronies of Upper Belfast and UpperMassareene, county Antrim but chiefly in the barony of Upper Castlereagh,county of Down and about 2.50 miles from Lisburn and on the old road fromBelfast city to Dublin.
But no REIDs or HERRONs are mentioned in Griffiths Valuation of Ireland -Lamberg, County Antrim.
1831: May have been at Hill Hall, Drumbeg, Down, Ireland.
Believed to be the brother of Robert and William HERON of Ireland.
PRONI records allude to a Samuel HERRON a weaver in Belfast (Pre-1858Wills and Admons - Connor Diocesan Wills) Diocese of Connor included mostof Co. Antrim and parts of Counties Down and Londonderry.
Husband of Martha Ann REID. Samuel HERRON was stated to have been a'linen weaver' on his son John's death certificate, and therefore, it isbelieved that Samuel HERRON was born in Ireland. (His son John was alsoborn in Ireland according to the 1881 census records.) Samuel HERRON wasstated to have been a labourer on his wife's (Martha REID) deathcertificate. This may imply that Samuel had moved to Wigotwnshire fromIreland with his family and then died. But in any event Samuel diedbetween 1835, when his son Alexander was born in Ireland and 1841 whenhis wife was a widow, living in Wigtownshire.
Samuel Heron is also stated to have been a dairyman (deceased) on his sonThomas's death certificate. Is it possible that Samuel HERON did move toWigtownshire with his family afterall?
According to John HERON's (abt 1824) death certificate, his mother's namewas Martha Ann REID.
May have been born in Lambrey, Antrim as was her brother Robert!
Alive in 1833
1841: There was a widow HERON at #56 Ring Croft of Clayhole (which isnow Sheucan Street on the edge of the Loch), Stranraer, Leswalt; widow;aged 40; born Ireland. Also there were Alexander HERON; aged 6; bornIreland and Maragret HERON, aged 15; born Ireland.
1851: a Martha HERON at Glebe, Kirkcolm/ Leswalt; visitor; widow; aged60; a washerwoman; born Ireland It is believed that she was the motherof John HERON (because he was in the same area at the same time) and shewas the widow of a Samuel HERON who was probably deceased by then.)
1851: There was also a Martha living at Foulford, Leswalt; head; widow;aged 60 years old; an outworker. May have been the same person as aboveand listed in both places
1861: A Martha was at Sun Street, Stranraer; head; widow; aged 71 yearsold. it is believed that the above Martha's maiden name was Martha AnnREID. Also there was Margaret; daughter; aged 36 years old; unmarried.Also there was Alexina GILLESPIE;
grandaughter; aged 11 years old.
1869: According to her death certificate, Martha HERRON, widow of SamuelHERRON (labourer) died 14 November 1869 at 9:30 a.m. at 49 Sun Street,Stranraer, Leswalt; aged 79 years; she died of constriction of thebowels; the informant of her death was
Alexander HERRON, her son (present); her father was James REID (joiner);deceased; her mother's name was unknown
Stated on World Connect to have had seven children and known as Ann(Source: [email protected])
