There is no mention on his tombstone of him having been married toanyone. The tombstone which is fairly large simply says. "Erected by hisfriend Patrick Heron" However according to the MGS microfiche, AlexanderGOLDIE married an Elizabeth HERON on May 24, 1747 at Midlothian,Edinburgh. Alexander GOLDIE was a 'writer to the Signet' which means hewas a law clerk.

It is stated that Elizabeth the wife of Alexander GOLDIE, w.s. was theeldest daughter of Patrick HERON the younger, whereas as will be found inthe family account, she was his fourth daughter and married to RobertMACLELLAN of Barscombe. It would appear that she was twice married. Itwas her brother who erected the headstone to Alexander GOLDIE. (McKerlie)

Marriage with GOLDIE was probably annulled after their child bornEdinburgh. But on August 07, 1786, an 'Elizabeth HERON (alias GOLDIE)'was ordered to appear before the courts to be sued.
