| 1. Janet HUGHAN, b. abt. 1785 |
The surname HUGHAN seems to be spelled correctly. There are a lot ofHUGHANs mentioned in the parish records of Kirkmabreck which leads me tobelieve that Janet's husband was from Kirkmabreck. First name believed tobe Alexander because he had a daughter Jane HUGHAN (qv). The mother'sname not given
Not mentioned in the Stoneykirk OPRs. But believed to be in Scotland in1809 as per Robert HERON's will.
1839: there was a widow HUGHAN who died at Milburn, Old Mill,Kirkcudbrightshire, 14 October 1839; aged 80 years old. Not sure what therelationship was
1841: There was a Jannet HUGHAN; aged 80; Independent; born Wigtownshire;living at Academy Place, Penninghame, Wigtownshire. She is believed tobe nee Janet HERON because she had an independent income which sheprobably inherited from her brother in Jamaica. Also there was HelenSTEWART; dressmaker; aged 20 years old; born Wigtonshire.
1851: There was a Jannet HUGHAN living at Cotton Mill, Newton Stewart,Penninghame; head; widow; Annuitant; aged 94 years old; born Wigtown,Wigtonshire. The fact that she was born in Wigton and the fact that herputative brother's Jamaican estate was called Wigton leads one to believethat this is definitely the same Janet HERON.
