George Herbert COOPER was the first husband of Susannah LANGDON who wasat the time an officer in the Salvation Army. From the looks of his coatin his picture, it would appear that he was in the Salvation Army also,although Alexina HERON states that her information indicates that he wasonly an 'adherent'. (But she also states that his family from his firstmarriage were very much Salvationist in the U.S. and at present at leasttwo of his descendents are Officers in the Church.) George was alsosupposed to have been a 'horse-breaker' in addition to other trades(perhaps latherer or house-painter as was his father). He also owned thetown of Collingwood quarry at one time, until it was lost because ofback-taxes.
George's nickname was supposed to have been 'Gypsy Dick' because of hisgypsy-like features (and perhaps temperment).
Susannah LANGDON was George's second wife, his first wife CatherineSEVILLE having died in 1903.
