In 1874, he was of Kirkconnell, Kells, Kirkcudbrightshire when marriedGrace GIBSON
In 1881 at Level Crossing, Kells, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland; married;aged 38 years old; born Kirkcowan, Wigtownshire; head; RailwaySurfaceman. Also there was an Isabella GECHIN; widow; aged 72 years old;born Penninghame, Wigtownshire, Scotland; boarder; no occupation.
1861: a Grace GIBSON, aged 6 years old was living with her grandparentsat Clanarie, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. There, were David HOPE(grandfather, widower), aged 65; Agnes HOPE, aged 33; Margaret HOPE, aged25; James HOPE, aged 20; Grace GIBSON, aged 6 years, granddaughter; andChristina JACKSON, aged 6 months, granddaughter. It is interesting tonote that although Grace GIBSON is recorded in the online LDS records asbeing born the daughter of David GIBSON and Mary HOPE, in 1861 Grace isliving with her grandfather and 'aunt' Margaret at Clanarie,Kirkcudbrightshire and not with her 'mother' Mary HOPE and Mary's husbandRobert DALGLEISH at Fordhouse, Kirkcudbrightshire. This leads one tobelieve that Grace GIBSON may have been the 'natural' daughter ofMargaret HOPE and not Mary HOPE. This theory is supported by the argumentthat Grace GIBSON was born 8 Aug 1854, almost a year after Mary HOPEmarried David DALGLEISH (16 Dec 1853)! The belief that Grace GIBSON wasthe daughter of Margaret HOPE and not Mary HOPE is further supported byJulianne ALCOCK of New Zealand who says that "this has been verified byan elderly Scottish relative of Margaret's with whom I keep in contact."
