Notes for Jane (Jeannie) HERON:

1871: at Meikle Mark cot house, Leswalt with parents and some siblings;aged 8 years old.Last name spelled HERRON
1881: at West Kirkbride, Kirkcolm, Wigtownshire; general servant; bornInch, Wigtownshire; aged 18 years old; daughter of John HERON there.
During the 1891 census, 'Jeannie' HERON was at High Cladons farm cottage, unmarried; farm worker; aged 26 years old; living with her father. Shecannot be the mother of Lydia ALEXANDER, also there, because Jeannie wasonly eleven years old when Lydia
was born. It is believed that one of Jeannie's elder brothers or sisterswas Lydia's father or mother. Jane and Jeannie are believed to be thesame person because Jeannie does not show up on the 1881 census and Janedoes not show up on the 1891 census!
According to my uncle Tom, Jane HERON is believed to have married aRobert NELSON, a boatowner in Stoneykirk. It is also believed that AnnieNELSON (who was 83 years old in 1975, when I visited Scotland), was thedaughter of Robert NELSON and Jane
HERON. Annie NELSON told uncle Tom that her HERON grandparents wereburied in Leswalt. Uncle Tom also told me that a lot of the old fallendown tombstones in the Leswalt Cemetery were used as fill in the sea-wallat Stranraer!
