Robert McCubbin HYSLOP, son of James McColm HYSLOP and Mary HUTTON , was born October 20,1898. He married Elizabeth (Bessie) Kennan RAE in <Kirkcowan>. He died 1958 in Garlieston. Elizabeth (Bessie) Kennan RAE was born 1900 in Dalry, Kirkcudbrightshire. She died 1973.

Ran away from home and joined the army in WWI. When he joined, there wasanother Robert HYSLOP enrolled, and in order to avoid confusion he chose'McCUBBIN as his middle name (preumably after his step-grandfather (JamesMcCUBBIN). At the frontlines, in Belgium, at aged 17 years old, RobertHYSLOP was taken prisoner of war but escaped and was seriously woundedwhich resulted in him having to have his right leg amputated below theknee. He was eventually returned to a military hospital in London wherehe discovered that the soldier in the bed next to him was his brotherThomas HYSLOP.
