1901: at Balyett Farm House, Inch, Wigtownshire; aged 2 years old; son.
Ran away from home and joined the army in WWI. When he joined, there wasanother Robert HYSLOP enrolled, and in order to avoid confusion he chose'McCUBBIN as his middle name (preumably after his step-grandfather (JamesMcCUBBIN). At the frontlines, in Belgium, at aged 17 years old, RobertHYSLOP was taken prisoner of war but escaped and was seriously woundedwhich resulted in him having to have his right leg amputated below theknee. He was eventually returned to a military hospital in London wherehe discovered that the soldier in the bed next to him was his brotherThomas HYSLOP.
