Migrated to Meon the year following his grandfather Charles HERON'sdeath, probably to take over his practice as surgeon. Probably educatedat Bishop's Waltham, where several of his sons went to school. Obtainedsurgeon's certificate January 20, 1801. Began practice when little over20 years of age, as an Army surgeon, attached to Porchester Castle, thenfilled with French prisoner. By 1809, had seven children under ten yearsof age. By 1818 had twelve children under eighteen years of age. Had atotal of twenty children. Sixteen of his children lived to maturity.Seven of the sons were brought up in the medical profession.
