Summary:

Granville Finley McMains was the son of William Perry McMains and Mary Jane Conley. He was born 1846, Putnam County, IN. He served in the 9th Regiment, Indiana, Light Artillery Battery, 1864-65. After the war, he left Indiana and settled in Louisiana. In 1870, he lived in Lamourie Ward, Rapides Parish. His wife was a young woman named Lucy. She bore him one son, William A. McMains, in 1871. It is possible that Lucy died in childbirth, but this is not for certain. He married Amy Ann Rhames in 1873. They had seven children.They lived in Hineston Ward, Rapides Parish. Granville died in 1895, but his wife applied for a land patent which was issued in her name, as "the widow of Granville F. McMains". She died in 1917, while perhaps still living on the same parcel of land. She is buried next to her husband, in Melder, Lousiana.
