Southern Suburbs Branch of GSQ Inc
(Queensland Australia)
Victorian Interest Group
In February 1999, the Southern Suburbs Branch of GSQ Inc. formed a Victorian Interest Group for members who were interested in researching the state of Victoria, Australia. The group meets on the 4th Sunday every second month ie. even months only, Feb to Oct, (not December), at the Upper Mt Gravatt Scout Den where Southern Suburbs Library is situated. Meetings usually commence at 2 pm and after business is discussed, members may take time to peruse the records available and have a coffee and a chat. Non-members of Southern Suburbs are asked to pay $2.00 to use the library other than Victorian records which are free for the interest group. Only Southern Suburbs members may take home library material. The group produces a bi-monthly newsletter, Lost in Victoria, which is available at each meeting for $2.00, and is also available by subscription of $12.50 for five issues, posted. This newsletter tries to give notice about new releases of records for Victorian research and features a different society in each issue. The funds which are generated by the newsletter and donations are quickly allocated to purchase more Victorian records for the library. We are collecting birth, marriage and death certificates from members and they are now available on database searchable by name. The database is available at the Southern Suburbs Library for all to use. For further information you can phone Betty Freeman: (07) 3398 3230 or The Victorian Group, PO Box 844, Mt Gravatt, 4122. ~ Please come on in and see if we can help you ~ ~ we hope you enjoy our company ~ For further information (or comments) email: Betty - Chairperson of the group Robyn - Secretary of Southern Suburbs Branch |
