  FIRST WHITE CHILD BORN IN WELLS TOWNSHIPDIES IN FLINT
  Charles Wells, 87, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. J. Cross of Flint last Thursday. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Roosevelt Free Methodist church, Flint. Rev. C. B. Collver, pastor, officiating, with burial in East Dayton Cemetery.
  Wells Township, in which Mr. Wells was born, July 6, 1858, the son of Joseph and Jane Wells, was named for his family. His parents were early settlers, coming to Michigan by ox-cart from Pennsylvania in 1856. Mr. Wells was the first white child born in the township. On August 7, 1881 he was married to Alice Metcalf, who died February 26, 1943. Her death was the first in the family after 62 years of marriage. In 1896 Mr. Wells moved to Caro, which continued to be his home until after the death of his wife, when he lived with his daughters. He was a member of the Evangelical church.
  Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Paul Abony, Mrs. George Ogger, of Detroit, Mrs. Alfred Legg of Milford, Mrs. W. J. Cross of Flint, Mrs. W. A. Johnson of Milan; a son, Harold Wells of Inkster; a brother, Sampy Wells of Wells; 23 grandchildren.
  NOTE: Date of marriage in obituary does not agree with other information I have. I have their date of marriage as Feburary 23, 1881 in Imlay City, Lapeer Co., Michigan.

  Mrs. Wells passed away Friday, February 26, 1943, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm.. Cross in Perry where she has been living for the past three months. Cause of death was heart trouble.
  Funeral services held on Monday afternoon March 1st, at 1 o'clock from the Evangelical Church in Caro, where she had been a member for the past 45 years. Rev. Rex H. Lahr, officiating and burial in the East Davton Cemetery. The pall bearers are Paul Abony, Alfred Legg, Rev. Wm. Cross, George Ogger, Rev. Wm. Johnson and Harold Wells.
  Surviving are the husband, Charles Wells of Caro, five daughters, Mrs. Paul Abony of Brighton, Mrs. Alfred Legg of Milford, Mrs. Wm. Cross of Perry, Mrs. Geo. Ogger of Detroit,

  MRS. CHAS. WELLS IS SUMMONED AT PERRY
  Death Friday is the First in Family During Her 62 Years of Married Life
  The Advertiser's last issue carried the story of the 62nd wedding anniversary on February 23 of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wells in which it is stated that there had been no death in the family all that time. On the day the story appeared Mrs. Wells died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. William Cross, of Perry. The body was brought to Caro and funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Evangelical church of which she had been a member for 45 years. Rev. Rex Lahr officiated and burial was made in East Dayton cemetery.
  Mrs. Wells was born at Goodrich, Ont., August 7, 1861, and at the age of 10 years accompanied her parents, the late Henry and Jane Metcalf to Romeo. At Imlay City February 23, 1881 she married Charles Wells, who survives. The Metcalf family moved to East Dayton in 1875. For the past 47 years Mrs. Wells made her home in Caro, and for the last few years she and her husband had spent their winters in the homes of their children.
  Besides her husband, Mrs. Wells leaves five daughters, Mrs. Paul Abony, of Brighton; Mrs. Alfred Legg, of Milford; Mrs. Cross; Mrs. George Ogger, of Detroit and Mrs. William Johnson of Milan; a son, Harold C. Wells, of Inkster; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

  Laura Ethel Legg, 101, of Colorado Springs died Monday in a nursing home.
  She had worked in a feed mill and for Railway Express for 45 years.
  Services were at 11 a.m. today in Evergreen Funeral Home, Fountain and Union Boulvards, with the Rev. Lewis Adkinson officiating. Burial will be in Milford, Mich.
  Mrs. Legg was born Nov. 4, 1884, in Caro, Mich. Her parents were the late Charles and Sarah (Metcalf) Wells. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pontiac, Mich.
  She was married, Oct. 29, 1902, in Caro to Alfred Legg, who preceded her in death.
  Mrs. Legg is survived by a daughter, Irene Wade of Colorado Springs; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

  She was a member of Bethel Park Church in the Woods, the W.C.T.U., the Women's Missionary Society, and her husband was a former minister and District Superintendent with the Free Methodist Church with over 44 years service.
  
  Surviving are: (4) daughters, Mrs. Austin (Alice) Van Norwick of Swartz Creek, Mrs. Ruth Jackson of Flint, Mrs. Alden (Myrna) Fennell of California, and Mrs. Ward (Arlene) Sipes of Flushing; (4) sons, Eldon of Florida, Loyal of Arizona, Warren of Mt.   Robert Wells, a pioneer resident of Wells Township, whose ill-health has been chronicled in this paper many times during the last five years, yielded to a complication of diseases and died Sunday, November 14, 1920.
  
  He was born March 7, 1848 and was only twelve years old when his father settled in the township which bears his name, moving from Wayne County. He was one of the sterling characters of the township and prominent until ill-health prevented him from taking an active part in affairs. His wife was, Miss Mellisa Clark, of Fremont and she with their son Harrison survive. Mr. Wells had been a Gleaner for 24 years. Other members of his family are three brothers and two sisters. Charles of Caro; John of Orion, who is in FLorida for the winter; Sampy of Wells Township; Mrs. Eunice Chambers of Wells and Mrs. Ida Chambers of Orion.
  
  Funeral services were held at his late home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. N. D. Earl and burial was at East Dayton.
  
  While arranging flowers just before the funeral services began, Mrs. Lottie Jacob, a sister-in-law who had been untiring in her efforts to assist during the long illness of Mr. Wells, suffered a stroke of paralysis and died the following day.
