  In the year 1775, Samuel, a resident of Chester, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, enlisted into Captain Daniel Moors Company, Colonel John Starks's Regiment for 8 months. Upon serving his time out in this 1st enlistment, he again enlisted in the same Company for 1 year more. Upon serving his time out in the 2nd enlistment, he enlisted for the Duration of the War in Captain Amos Morrell's Company, Colonel Cilley's Regiment of the New Hampshire Continental Line. During this period he served as the Company Sergeant Major for 7 months and then the Company Ensign for 17 months. In the month of August 1782, he resigned his commission on the account of a wound received in the service at the Battle of Stillwater (Saratoga).
