  MISSOULA, MONT. - Anita Strobel, three days shy of her 90th birthday, passed away peacefully at the Village Health Care Center, Missoula, on Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. Anita was born in 1915, in New Richmond. Anita grew up in Chicago, Ill., graduated from Senn High School and then attended Lake Forest College, where she was a proud member of the Phi Beta sorority. She graduated in 1937, married Carl and moved to Madison. They were soon busy raising their five children and a menagerie of pets. Anita loved to travel and was able to explore Europe, Mexico, South America, Alaska, Canada and most of the United States. She also loved the out-of-doors and spent most summers of her life at the family cabin near Spooner. She was very active in the Girl Scouts, P.T.A., Meals on Wheels, the Wisconsin Optometric Society, League of Women Voters and the Madison Curling Club. She became renowned for her excellent cooking skills. In 1971, Anita was able to realize her dream in designing and contracting the building of her unique Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home in Fitchburg which she named "Innisfree." Anita will be remembered with great love by her sister, Myra Blaker and husband, Stan, Phoenix, Ariz.; Anita's five children, Albert Strobel, Portland, Ore., David Strobel, Missoula, Mont., Bonnie Mansfield, Watersmeet, Mich., Roger Strobel, Missoula, Mont., and Robin Strobel, Issaquah, Wash.; her six grandchildren; Eric Mansfield, Michael Mansfield, Laura Strobel, Kymry Moran, Gavn Strobel and Zane Strobel; and a great-grandson, Tyler Moran. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert S. Wells and Mabel Bahr; her brother, Albert Wells Jr.; and her husband, Carl "Cully." No memorial services will be held in Madison. Donations in Anita's name can be made to the International Crane Foundation; the Madison Curling Club Junior Program; or an organization of the donor's choice.
