Former Pontiac Boy Killed.
Monday morning last a collision between a Chicago & A ton suburban train and a Burlington engine at the Union depot at Adams street and the river in Chicago, resulted in crushing Frank O. Wells, a yard switchman in the train shed, to death, and injuring several others. The accident occurred at 8:45 o'clock when the depot was crowded with incoming suburban residents. The police were summoned and the injured removed. Another engine was brought and the two wrecked engines pulled apart and taken from the shed. Mr. Wells was then found dying beneath the tender of the Burlington engine. Physicians were summoned, but he died before he could be taken to a hospital. He was in the act of coupling the engine with the tender when the crash took place.
Frank Wells came to this city, with his mother, from Canada, when a mere boy and grew up to manhood here. He is a nephew of Mr. W. S. Lacey, his mother being Mr. Lacey's sister. A good portion of his life has been devoted to railroading. His wife's maiden name was Miss Maggie Bigelow, youngest sister of C. L. Bigelow of this city. Their home is at 950 South Spaulding avenue, Chicago. Two children, with the mother, are left to mourn his untimely death. Mr. Wells' remains were brought here yesterday by the 11:38 train, and taken by the relatives and friends to the city cemetery for burial, Rev. J. H. Ryan officiating at the grave.
(The above was found on microfilm at the Pontiac city library)
