Princess Mary Wells, a gypsy, died Sunday night at Morristown, and funeral rites were held over the body yesterday. After her death the watch fires were lighted to burn two days, at her head and feet. When the boyd was cold it was sprinkled with water from a running stream and robed in white. All her other clothing was burned on the watch fires, while her comrades sang strange incantations and made weird motions about her bier. As the sun was sinking a bundle of white sticks were broken one by one by different members of the tribe and laid on her body. A Christian service will be said by Princess Mary's dying request. Rev. Dr. Beaumont will preach. The body will be taken to Wilmington, Del. and interred in the family plot, in which only gypsies of the royal blood are buried. Her father, King Robert Wells, was buried there last year."
