    She was born near Smithshire, Illinois on July 23, 1913, the daughter of Willard C. and Katie M. (Jones) Brown. On September 5, 1937 she married Delbert G. Wells in Burlington, Iowa. He entered military service in November 1943 and was killed in action March 19, 1945.

    She grew up in the Smithshire and Roseville communities and was a 1932 graduate of Roseville High School. She moved to Dallas City in 1940 and began working at Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa in 1944. She retired from there on September 5, 1975. She was a member of the Dallas City United Methodist Church, the Dallas City American Legion Auxiliary and the Dallas City Golden Age Club.

    Surviving are one niece, three cousins and her special girls, Carolyn Newberry, Laurey Wibbell and Penny Robertson all of Dallas City.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one sister and her parents.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Gene Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the The Gilpin Home in Dallas City and the Dallas City Senior Citizens.

    Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory her loving husband of seventy one years; Maxie Lee Creel of Oakdale, one sister Mollie Willis of Orange, Tx and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Mrs. Mary was a faithful lifetime member of the Oakdale First United Pentecostal church and a loving wife and mother.

    Honored to serve as pallbearers are; Kenneth Jackson, Kendel Jackson, Roger Creel, Terry Bankens, Ralph Seaman and Kenneth Lester.

    She was loved by many and will be missed dearly by all who were touched by her in their lives.

    Ms. Daniel is survived by 1 daughter and son-in-law: Leslie and James Watson; 2 precious grandchildren and their spouses: Jeremy and Jennifer Watson and Danielle and Derek Duplessis and husband Derek; 3 great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Grace Watson, Mason James Duplessis, Stella Rose Watson; 1 brother: Emerson Wells; 1 sister-in-law: Beulah Wells and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.
    She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 65 years: Rev. Melvin F. Daniel; 1 son: Jay Howard Daniel; her parents; and 1 sister-in-law: Ellen Wells.

    Funeral services for Ms. Daniel was held on Monday, July 25, 2016, 11:00 am, at Little Prairie Baptist Church.
    She was laid to rest at Carpenter's Chapel Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Derek Duplessis, Rene Watson, Gerrold Daniel, Steve Daniel, Greg Bare and Paul Bare. Honorary Pallbearers were James Watson, Jeremy Watson, Craig Aultman and Steve Melder.
