The only reference I have for that is his death info and the tombstone. The tombstone either has his b/d or his age, which I will go check my photos right now. Also, history books place him in Dauphin Co PA where he was married and from there moved to Beaver Co. where his descendents still live and farm his land. Another history book has a bio of his daughter which gives the same story. I doubt that he was ever in Ohio, but some of his line did go there.

- Note: Biographical Sketches, Borough of Butler, History of Butler County Pennsylvania, R. C. Brown Co., Publishers, 1895.] OLIVER DAVID, for many years one of the well known mercants of Butler, was born in Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, August 22, 1788. His parents, John and Rebecca DAVID, lived on the Chambersburg road, about eight miles from Harrisburg. Towards the close of the Eighteenth century the family removed to what is now Butler county, settling in Middlesex township, where the parents resided until their death, and here Oliver grew to manhood. In September, 1814, he married Ann WELLS, a native of Dauphin county. She was a daughter of Joseph and Jane WELLS, who removed from Dauphin to Beaver county about the same time the DAVID family settled in Butler county. The young couple took up their abode in Middlesex township, where Mr. DAVID engaged in farming, also carried on a tannery until his removal to Butler. Four children blessed their union, one son and three daughters, the son dying in infancy. The daughters were as follows; Jane, who married William CAMPBELL, of Pittsburg, and after his death Henry BOYD, of Butler; Rebecca B., who became the wife of James CAMPBELL, of Butler, and Annalanah, who married William ADAMS, of Fairview township. About 1832 Mr. DAVID removed to Butler, where his wife died in 1840. Soon after locating in this borough he entered on a successful mercantile career that lasted about a quarter century. He died here November 5, 1871. Both he and his wife were leading members of the Presbyterian church of Butler. Mr. DAVID was an industrious, careful and economical man, who devoted his entire attention to his business affairs. He was strictly honest in all his dealings, possessed a character of great firmness and decision, and was quite remarkable for his self control.4

Our citizens were startled yesterday morning by the report of another deed of blood in our city. Scarcely have we resumed our usual composure, from the effects of the horror occassioned by the late murder of young Tanner, and even before the perpretators of that horrible crime have been certainly discovered, we again called upon to record another murder, in broad daylight -- the murderer in this latter case, while apparently in friendly conversation, shotting his uncle (by marriage) through the head, and not content with that stabbled him twice to the heart. The victim of yesterday's murder is Mr. R. M. Horseley, proprietor of the mills on Poplar Street, and the murderer is a young man named Charles Wells, son of Mr. William S Wells, who resides near Raleigh, in this county. The murder was commited in the yard of the mills and Wells started down the street, pursued by the son of Horseley, and rand to the calaboose and gave himself into the custody of officers. We hear a number of reports as to the cause of the murder, one of which was a lady in it, and another that his life had been threatened by Horseley. We resume that an examination will soon be had, when all the facts be developed and we forbear publishing any of the rumors now afloat." - Newspaper: 22 December 1857; Memphis Appeal, Memphis, Shelby Co., Tennessee, USA; "A Voice from Prison.
To the Editors of the Memphis Appeal:
An impression is made by rant newspaper articles, that I intended to break jail and make my escape, for the last ten months. I was congratulating myself in my humble abode, that my name would not appear any more in public print. Not a thing can be done in jail, but what my name is hearlded forth to the world, either as principal or accessory. If I had wanted to make my escape, I was once free and could have done so. I surrendered myself, in the hand of the law, to have a fair and impartial trial by jury of my country. It is well known to this community what followed. That great writ of right which the Constitution of my country guaranties to every citizen, from the highest to the lowest, was denied me for the first time in history of Tenessee. Thirty-five years ago I and my father came pioneers to this county, and from that hour up to this I have lived near Memphis, I challenge the world to do one single transaction, during this long period of years, that is either dishonorable or disreputable. My labor and property has been taxed for a long series of years ia opening roads, building up your city and making laws to govern us, and still I have been denied its benefits, which the lowest slave is entitiled to.
When I surrendered and threw myself on the generosity and hospitality of Memphis, I expected to be treated like other prisoners, and no doubt would have been if I had not possessed a few corrupt dollars, for no one can say I ever wronged them.
In a few days I expect to be remanded to Tipton. Let me depart in peace. I leave a few warm and devoted friends behind, which will ever abide in my memory, and will cling and cluster in the warmest sentiments of my heart, whatever my destiny may be.
It is true some implements were found in my cell. Nelson Wood and Charles H Wells were staying with me, and acknowledged to Mayor Baugh that I was in no way connected with the matter -- instead of wishing to escape that I had prevented the jail from being broken. It is stated that a crow-bar was found under my bed. This positively false, and so known to the officers who made the search. Mayor Baugh has admitted to me that I had no connection with the attemp on the jail, and further that he was satisfied that I did not desire to escape.
In concusion let me say, when I come out of prison I expect to come out at a door by a verdict of a jury of my country. Below I give the following card by Wells and Wood.
