  She was the daughter of ELISHA & ELIZABETH (COLLYER) BOURNE, and was baptized in 1626 at St. Mary's White Chapel Parish, London, England.
  
  She married first JOHN WELLES in 1647 at Stratford. She was the mother of six Welles children in 12 years: Capt. John Welles, Deacon Thomas Welles, Capt. Robert Welles, Temperence Welles, Sgt. Samuel Welles, and my ancestor SARAH (WELLES) THOMPSON.
  
  On March 19, 1663, she married my ancestor, JOHN WILCOXSON at Killingworth, Colony of Conn. They were the parents of Patience (Wilcoxson) Blakeman, Hannah (Wilcoxson) Booth, ELIZABETH (WILCOXSON) BEERS -- my ancestor, and Mary Wilcoxson.

  Daniel and Hannah WELLES had l6 children (4th generation) Some of the children were baptized at the Presbyterian church, Cambridge, NY.
  
  Capt. Daniel WELLES enlisted in the army April l776 serving l year l8 days as private; 6 months l5 days as Sergeant, then stationed on Long Island under the immediate command of General Washington. He held the rank of orderlysergeant, and was selected as the bearer of a dispatch from General Washington to General Sullivan, containing sealed orders apprizing him of the intended retreat from Brooklyn, and was the last man in the last boat that left the island on that miserable night. The armies were discharged with promptness amidst darkness and storm. Sergeant WELLES' term of enlistment having expired while the army was at White Plains, he received his discharge, and returned to Hebron, CT where he stood as a minuteman.
  Daniel made an application for a pension under his Rev. War record S6354 from New York
  
  Daniel was full of anecdotes of the American Revolution and had drawings of the Battlefields. He is the one who wrote the psalm book which his grandfather Lathrop used in the pulpit before the Revolutionary War and the arbitration. The hymns showed the spirit and courage of the patriots. The printed copy reads in one of the psalms, "Shine, mighty Lord, on Briton, shine mighty God on Zion" In the book there's another higher ending, "While Britons sang his praises and British hearts rejoice". But Lathrop makes it read "Let every tune exalt his praises and every heart enjoy."
  
  In l779 Daniel moved with his family to Cambridge and settled on the farm next owned by William Curtis. He lived there and had the l6 children. He was a man of strong mind. Respected by his fellow citizens, and held various posts of office, both civil and military. Descendants of the WELLES family are living in the area to this day. Daniel was a supervisor (town official)in l793l796, and again l80ll804. Here at the house of Daniel WELLES the first Masonic lodge in Cambridge was constituted Dec 24, l793. It is said that General Washington stayed over night at the Checkered House in l78l on his way from Bennington to Saratoga on his tour of inspection of the North County, just a short distance from Edmund and Daniel's home.
