In the Name of God Amen. I Stephen Wells Sen. of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina, being weak of bodily strength, but of sound mind and memory (Blessed be God) do this eighteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seven make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say.
First: I lend to my beloved wife ELIZABETH WELLS my plantation whereon I now live her life time, also I lend her one negro woman named SILVE, also one negro girl named LETT, also one still to her, her life time; after her decease I give and bequeath to my son JEREMIAH WELLS my plantation whereon I now live being one hundred and fifty acres of land more or less, also I give to him the aforesaid negro woman SILVE and negro girl LETT, and each of their increase that they shall have from this present day and date, also my will to him and his hirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son STEPHEN WELLS JUNR. one hundred acres of land adjoining VICK, PRIDGEN and JOSHUA WELLS lines it lying in the aforsaid County, also one negro girl named LEECY and her increase, also one horse his choice of three young horses, also one feather bed and furniture, to him and his heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath to my son JOHN WELLS one negro boy named HARRY to him and his heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter MARTHA DAUGHTRIDGE one young horse after my son STEPHEN WELLS JUN. takes his choice, to her and her heirs forever.
Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter MILLEY MAY one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever.
Item: All my estate that I have not heretofore lent to my wife ELIZABETH WELLS nor given way to my children, I lend to my wife ELIZABETH WELLS her life time, and after her decease it is my will and desire that their be an equal division amoung four of my children: JOHN WELLS, STEPHEN WELLS, JEREMIAH WELLS and MARTHA DAUGHTRIDGE, to each of them and each of their heirs forever.
Item: I hereby make and ordain my two sons JOHN WELLS and JEREMIAH WELLS, executors to this my last will and testament. Witness my hand and seal the day and year above written.
