" ... Family settled in Virginia long prior to the Revolutionary War. In Virginia, Miles Wells, paternal grandfather of Dr. George Miles Wells, was born and reared. The family was then in affluent circumstances, and after reaching manhood, Miles Wells, removed to North Carolina, where he became a wealthy planter. Later he went to Mississippi where he held large landed interests. Miles was married twice, and reared a large family of children, all of whom are now deceased [1894].^4,1
