  Willard Wells,77, well known resident of Tuscola County, died at his home near Caro early Monday, January 2, after a long illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday
  afternoon at the Ellington Nazarene Church, Rev. William Kelly officiating, with burial in Ellington cemetery
  Mr. Wells was born March 14, 1872 in Port Byron, N.Y. and at the age of 10 years came with his parents,the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Wells to Cass City, where his father engaged in the carpenter's trade, building many homes in that community.
  On January 26,1898, he was joined in marriage with Blanche A. Turner, who survives, and to this union were born eight children,five of whom survive. They are Mrs. J. L. (Marie) Kauffman of Caro, Mrs. Earl (Jennie)Fish of Flint, Mrs. R. K. (Martelle) MacGregor, Millard Wells of Saginaw and Howard Wells,of Muskegon.
  Preceding him in death were Mrs. J. B. (Neva) Hobson. Lyon-el Wells and Eryma,an infant. He also leaves three sisters Mrs. Alys Grills,of Great Falls, Montana, Mrs. Zella Booth of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Grace McEldowney of Caro; 13
  grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
  Interested in the art of cookery Mr. and Mrs. Wells spent many years operating restaurants and bakeries in Cass City, Flint, Caseville, Gagetown and for several years were proprietors of the Home Hotel in Caro. For five years before retiring six years ago he cooked at Caro State Hospital. After retiring the couple moved to the home in E1lington where he died. He was a faithful member of the Ellington Church of the Nazarene for many years, was endowed with a kind and winning personality and a keen sense of humor,which won for him many friends.
  The occasion of the Golden Weddding of Mr. and Mrs. Well's a year ago called for a large, gathering of their many friends and relatives.

  Neva E. Hobson, eldest daughter of Willard and Blanch Wells was born in Ellington Township, Michigan January 2, 1899. Died in the Cass City Hospital June 10, 1943 at the age of 44 years, 6 months, and eleven days.
  
  She was married to Frank Blasius November 14, 1917. To them were born three children, Francine, Ward, and Clare. Mr. Blasius died January 2, 1925. She was married to J.B. Hobson January 25, 19330 and to this union one son, Jack Hobson, was born.
  
  She leaves her husband and children, her aged parents, three sisters, Mrs. J.L. Kauffman of Caro, Mrs. Earl Fish of Flint, Mrs. R.K. MacGregor of Saginaw and two brothers, Willard and Howard of Saginaw with other relatives and friends to mourn her untimely death. Her brother _____ Wells preceded her in death September 1941.
  
  Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Baptist church, Rev. J.B. McMinn officiated with burial in Fremont Cemetery.

  Another old soldier has passed from the ranks, being Samuel M. Wells, a prominent farmer of this township.
  The news of his death reached town Friday morning. He was about on the streets on Thursday and appeared in his usual health and amiable frame of mind. He returned home and in the evening, after splitting some kindling, was stricken with paralysis and expired about eleven o'clock without regaining consciousness. He was about sixty years of age. He was a native of New York state and was mustered into service in the 16th New York heavy artillery on Jan. 26th, 1861 . In l863 he was promoted to rank sergeant and in May of the same year to sergeant major. In l864 was again promoted to second lieutenant of Co. E, of 17th N.Y. heavy artillery which rank he held at the time of his discharge, August lOth, 1865. He was a charter member of Milo Warner Post, No. 232 of Cass City, and filled the office of quartermaster.
  He was a stanch Republican and took an active part in township affairs. Mrs. Wells died about a year ago, but two sons and four daughters survive. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at the M.E. church, the G A.R. and Ladies' Circle attending in a body. The attendance was very large and the pastor, Rev. Jas.W. Fenn, being an old soldier, made some very appropriate remarks, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Elkland cemetery.
