It was in 1933 that I met Millard in Kauffman's grocery store. Heworked there as a clerk for a couple of years. After leaving there hewent to work for Holden's Trading Stamps for several years in Ypsilantiand Pontiac. We were married in 1935 and we had almost sixty four years of marriedlife together. After I graduated from County Normal I secured a teaching positionnear Fairgrove. In 1934 and 1935 I taught school in the same school,Remington, that I had attended when younger. One of my first teachers wasMarie Kauffman. Jobs were difficult to find: so we considered ourselvesvery fortunate to have one. By working and going to school part time Iobtained my Bachelor of Science, B.S. degree. I graduated from College in1963. I taught school for 31 years In 1939 we bought a restaurant in Caro. It was the same one Willardand Blanche Wells had had many years ago. We were only there a year: as Ibecame pregnant - then we sold the restaurant and Millard went back tohis old job at Holdens as book keeper and salesman. On 1940 our son, Jim,was born in Pontiac. After Jim's birth; Millard secured a job at Severance Tool in Saginaw.He worked there for 37 years. He worked as purchasing agent most of thetime. In 1945 our daughter Alys was born. Millard was choir director for many years. He has put on manycontatas. The one that he will be remembered for is “No Greater Love.” Before and after we retired we traveled to many states in the U.S. Wehave visited Europe, Israel, London and took two cruises. In 1983 We sold our home in Saginaw. In 1988 we bought a mobile inFlorida. We lived part time in Florida and part time in Grand Rapids.Because it was to much we sold our mobile and our home in Grand Rapidsand bought a condo in Kentwood, Michigan. In 1996 Millard became ill and never recovered. He went to be withJesus, October 29, 1999. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Kentwood;which is near our condo. It was the same one Willardand Blanche Wells had had many years ago. We were only there a year: as Ibecame pregnant - then we sold the restaurant and Millard went back tohis old job at Holdens as book keeper and salesman. On 1940 our son, Jim,was born in Pontiac. After Jim's birth; Millard secured a job at Severance Tool in Saginaw.He worked there for 37 years. He worked as purchasing agent most of thetime. In 1945 our daughter Alys was born. Millard was choir director for many years. He has put on manycontatas. The one that he will be remembered for is “No Greater Love.” Before and after we retired we traveled to many states in the U.S. Wehave visited Europe, Israel, London and took two cruises. In 1983 We sold our home in Saginaw. In 1988 we bought a mobile inFlorida. We lived part time in Florida and part time in Grand Rapids.Because it was to much we sold our mobile and our home in Grand Rapidsand bought a condo in Kentwood, Michigan. In 1996 Millard became ill and never recovered. He went to be withJesus, October 29, 1999. He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery in Kentwood;which is near our condo.   The death of John Wells occurred last Friday night at his home after an illness of over two months. He was born in Berkshire, England, Dec. 12, 1834 and died Jan. 28, 1911. In 1859 Mr. Wells married Miss Catherine Ruckel of Ohio. Nine children were born to this union, all of whom, with the aged wife, survive. The children are Charles, Ulysses, Edward and Mrs. Samuel N. James of Clyde township; Fred and Frank of Ft. Collins, Colorado; L.W. (Greenwood) of Leaf River; George of Albany, IL; and Mrs. Will Detra of Clarksville, Iowa. The greater part of his life was spent on his farm near here and the wife and children have many friends who sympathize with them in their loss. Rev. Abel of Morrison conducted the services and the remains were interred in Grove Hill Cemetery. Six of the sons acted as pall-bearers. Mrs. Ferguson of Polo and Mrs. Garrett of Dixon, sisters of the deceased, attended the funeral services. Mrs. Wm. Detra returned to her home in Clarksville, IA on Tuesday after spending eight weeks at the bedside of her father.
