    Mr. Wells died this AM. He passed this life easy without a groan or struggle and died happy in the Lord.

    Charles' paternal ancestry goes back to William Wells, Esq., who was born about 1604/08 in Norwich, Norfolk, England, and died 1671 in Southold, Suffolk Co., Colony of New York, a founder and leading civil authority there.

    Charles K. Wells was a 45 year old Methodist Minister in Burke, Caledonia, Vermont when word reached him of the death of his only son, 16 year, 9 month old Charles W. Wells, a private in Co. E, 3rd Vermont Infantry, at Lee's Mill, Virginia. The minister enlisted and suffered the same fate, or worse, in the notorious Andersonville Prison.
