  Mary was born in Virginia and was transported with her parents in 1653 when they moved to Maryland.
  One source estimates her birth date as 1637.
  Montgomery estimates it at 1644 and the seventh child of Richard.
  She is listed in her fathers will as the wife of Thomas Stockett and appears to have been in her fathers favor.
  
  One source, Mrs. O. F. Weisgerber from Chula Vista Ca. lists a daughter, Elizabeth, by Mary's second husband, George Yates.
  She had several more sons and daughters with her second husband.
  She was widowed a second time when he died in 1691.

  Henry enlisted in the Independent Company of the Fourth Michigan Infantry on February 13, 1864, for 3 years, at age 21. He was mustered into Federal service on March 3, 1864 and promoted to Sergeant on April 5, 1864. He was listed as wounded in action on May 28, 1864. On July 2, 1864, he was ordered on detached service with Company F of the First Michigan Infantry. On September 30, 1864, Henry was once again wounded in action. On June 6, 1865, he was transferred to Company K of the Reorganized Fourth Michigan Infantry, and discharged on June 8, 1865, at Washington, D.C.

  Henry S. Wells of Quincy was one
  of the fourteen men who enlisted
  July 9, 1861, three of whom were
  killed, while he was taken a priso-
  ner of war at Bull Run July 21st,
  and held until June 3rd, 1862, when
  he was released on parole of honor
  until regularly exchanged. He was
  a member of the Fourth Michigan
  Infantry, of the brigade that re-
  ceived the arms of Lee's army. He
  was at the battle of Fredericksburg,
  second Fredericksburg and Salem
  Heights (Chancelorsville), Spott-
  Sylvania, North Anna (where he was
  wounded), Cold Harbor, the assault
  and siege of Petersburg, Weldon
  railroad (a three day battle) and
  at Peeble's Farm, where he was
  wounded and permanently disabled.
  He was in the service eleven hun-
  dred and seventy-nine days, include-
  ing 135 days in line of battle and
  317 days in prison. Of his career
  as a citizen, the people of Quincy
  are so well acquainted that details
  here are unnecessary. He has hon-
  orably filled every position which
  he has occupied and been loyal to
  every cause which he has served.
  Soldiers and citizens of this city will
  be pleased if the Grand Army men
  shall see fit to make him their de-

  WELL KNOWN RESIDENT SUMMONED AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS IN FAMILY HOME
  Veteran of Civil War, Member of G.A.R., and Prominent Citizen Answers Final Summons
  
  Henry Spencer Wells, familiarly known as "Captain" died Sunday morning about 11 o'clock in his home in the Virginia Apartments, Third and York, after an illness of nearly three weeks from hardening of the arteries and complications, having been bedfast for the past week. On Nov. 7 he and his wife attended the golden wedding anniversary of the latter's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Neff of Bushnell, where they visited for about a week and he was taken ill soon after returning, home. Decedent was born In Wheatland, Michigan, Oct. 17, 1842 and was therefore 74 years of age. He enlisted In the Twenty-seventh New York Volunteers at the outbreak of the civil war, being taken prisoner at the Battle of Bull Run and confined in Libby Prison and other prisons in the South for about 14 months. He was finally exchanged and returned to his regiment where he served the term of his enlistment. Returning to Michigan he entered Hillsdale College but while a student there be enlisted in the Fourth Michigan Infantry and served his term. He was twice wounded in battle, making him lame all his life. At the close of the war he went to Bushnell, Ill. where he was engaged in business for several years and where, on January 24, 1867 be was united in marriage to Miss Frances Neff, who survives, and had he lived until next month they would have celebrated the golden anniversary of their marriage. For several years be was connected with the American Express company at Monmouth and 34 years ago came to this city where he engaged in the same business until failing health caused him to retire. He has been a faithful and active member of John Wood Post No. 96, G.A.R. in which be served an adjutant and commander and was also prominent in the staid organization, being a delegate to both state and national encampments for many years. Mr. Wells was a man of sterling quality, always fair and just in his dealings and numbering his friends by the hundreds. He was a great reader and a student of political economy taking a great interest in all matters of civic and political attention and lending his aid whenever possible. Besides the widow he leaves four sons, Dr. O. A. Wells and J. H. Wells of this city, Ross I. Wells of Boston and Neff Wells of Kokomo, Ind.; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Dickson and Mrs. Leaton Irwin of this city; two brothers, Frank of Rarltan, Ill., and John of Hillsdale, Mich.; eleven grandsons, three granddaughters and one great grand child. The remains were removed to the residence of D. A. Wheeler where they may be viewed on Tuesdav.
