Benjamin Gaither Black was born on May 18, 1889, in Splunge, Monroe County, Mississippi to Jacob "Jake" Black and Francis Ellen Irvin Black. He died on March 5, 1968, in Amory.
He first married Senna Finch, but had no children by her. Then he married Ila Pickle and had two children, Elwyn and Riley.

Resident Of New Hope CommunityAmory, Miss. - Benjamin Gaither Black of New Hope community died Tuesday at 1:30 a.m. at Gilmore Memorial Hospital after a four week illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pickle Funeral Home, with burial in New Hope cemetery. The Rev. William N. Jackson will officiate. He was 78.
He was born and reared in Monroe County's Splunge community, and was married to Miss. Ila Pickle in 1906. She died in 1944. After their marriage, they moved to the Parham community where they farmed. He also worked for Simmons Manufacturing Co. of Kenosha, Wis., for six years, until his retirement in 1953. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He leaves a daughter, Mrs. L. Elwyn Knight of Amory; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
