David Clark Webb
David Clark Webb

David Clark Webb was born just before the Civil War ended in 1865.  He lived briefly in the Fulton, Mississippi area and moved with his family in 1872 to Houston County, Texas.  He marrried in Houston County in 1886 to Nannie Miller Goodloe.

They lived in Houston County, until 1904, except for the year 1900 or 1899 when they spent the year in West Texas when the drought proved too severe and they returned.  In 1904 they moved to Runnels County in a covered wagon and then to Bishop, Nueces County, this time in a train.

He had seven children, but one died young. He was hunting in a pasture one day in the summer in 1916 at the age of 51 when he had a heart attack (some tell that it was a sunstroke).  They found him sitting up against a tree with his gun in his lap.

After he died, his wife received a rather large amount of money from an insurance policy he had taken out.  It was about $10,000. That was big money back in those days.  Needless to say, but shortly thereafter every traveling salesman in the country made sure they visited her house to try and sell her things.
