Jane Dawson Lowery Burr
Jane Dawson Lowery Burr

Jane Dawson drawing Jane was the second daughter of John Dawson and Mary Ann "Polly" Webb.  She was born in 1845 in Itawamba County (or possibly Monroe), Mississippi.  She spent some of the most formative years of her life during the Civil War and shortly after the war had ended, she married Anderson Lowery.  We do not know much about Anderson, but he seems to have been much older than her.  If they married about 1865, which seems reasonable, we would see that he was about 50 and she was about 20.

The census recorded the familyin 1870 in Sanford County, Alabama:

They had another daughter, Sarah Jane, shortly after the census, and they lost one they had, Mary, a little after that (this seems to be the most likely explanation for Mary's disappearance).  At some point within this decade, Anderson seems to have died, probably after they moved to Texas.  They were living in Bell County, Texas, with Jane's sister and brother-in-law in 1880:

Lucy Anne was in another household as a servant - being a widow and without her own home, Jane could not keep Lucy Anne at home, but paid some money for room and board to another widow women Ware to keep Lucy Anne while she worked for the lady also.

We do not have any documentation, but Jane seems to have married a Mr. Burr shortly after this.  She was said by some to have died in Cache, Oklahoma, but no tombstone has yet been found and no exact date is known.

Children of Jane Dawson and Anderson Lowery

Mary A. Lowery (md. ?)
Born ca. 1867, probably in Detroit, Marion County, Alabama, we don't know what happened to Mary after that. We lose track of her after the 1870 census.  I think she probably died young.

Savannah Lowery Savannah Lowery (md. James C. Stewart)
Savannah and James had seven children together.  She lived to her old age, but I am not sure when or where she passed away.

Lucy Anne Lowery Lucy Anne Lowery (md. Robert Larry Stewart)
Also known as Louisiana (especially on the early census reports), she married Robert Stewart on Sept. 9, 1886 in Bell County, Texas.  He was eight years her elder, and they had twelve kids together.  She and Robert passed away in Marietta, Love County, Oklahoma in 1948 and 1950, respectively.

Sarah Jane Lowery (md. John Garrison Stewart)
Sarah Jane and John had four sons together.  She passed away at a young age, in 1913, at the age of 37, in Cottle County, Texas.  John lived to be 73, and passed away in 1949, in Kern County, California.
