Ora Mae Webb
Ora Mae Webb Bullard

Ora Mae Webb was one of the youngest children of Jacob Kuykendall Webb.  Her mother was Jake's third wife, Sarah R. "Sally" Martin.  Ora Mae was born on May 2, 1892, in England, Lonoke County, Arkansas.  She had a number of older (some much older) siblings, and a couple of older full-siblings.  Her father was already about 63 years old and her mother was about 25 when they had Ora Mae.

When Ora Mae was about 18 or 19, she married Britt Bullard (the son of James Bullard and Nancy Shepherd), who was born on October 14, 1889, in Yell County, Arkansas.  Her family had moved there from Lonoke County and she was probably living near his family when they met.  They had their first child around 1912.  Together they had four girls and two boys that lived to an adult age.  They lost one girl, Janice, when she was just a child.  It was said that at about the age of two or three, that Mae had fed her some cabbage or potatoes that were not cooked enough and that she got the 'flux'.  She died a little bit later from it.

Many of the children moved to the Chicago area and in the summertime, Britt and Mae would often come to visit and the family would have a picnic at one of the forest preserves in Chicago.  They played games, cards, ball, and sunbathed.  The ladies of the family would have running races and Mae would beat her daughters and granddaughters in running!

Mae was the midwife of the community.  When folks saw her going down the road with her chamber pot, they new a new baby was on the way somewhere in town.  She was a woman of sharp tongue and sometimes had a mean spirit.  When she was older, she once accidently stuck a piece of barbed wire into her middle finger and it became infected.  It was amputated and left her right hand somewhat crippled.

In her old age, she left the farm and lived in a nursing home in Dardanelle.  Britt passed away in November of 1966 in Yell County.  Mae passed away on December 1, 1974, in Dardanelle, Yell County.  They are both buried at the Brearley Cemetery in Dardanelle.
