Abel Rice, born 19 Jun 1791; he died 18 Aug 1855. Abel RICE married first 13 Jun 1814 Betsy HUNT, she died 18 May 1825; he married second 15 May 1826 Betsy HOWE.

Abel Rice was born June 19, 1791 in Marlborough, Massachusetts. He is the son of Jabez and Alice (Howe) Rice. On June 13, 1814 Abel married Betsey Hunt of Northborough, Massachusetts. On October 15, 1813, they gave birth to their first child William. William settled at Governeur, St. Lawrence Co., NY. Their next Child was Amory, born August 29, 1815. Amory married Jane R. Partridge on December 24, 1837, at Barre, and removed to Ohio. Aaron was Abel and Betsey's third child. He was born on October 20, 1817. Unmarried he died on December 11, 1843 at the age of 26 of consumption. He is buried in Old Common Burial Ground in Marlborough. Serena was the next Child of Abel and Betsey. Born on July 17, 1819 She married Larriman H Russell. Twins were born of the Rices on June 11, 1823, Martha and Minot. Martha married (unknown) Fosgate, her cousin, son of Luke and Mary (Rice) Fosgate of Berlin. Minot married Mary B. Felton, daughter of George and Rachel Felton of Marlborough in September 1851. On May 18, 1825, Betsey passed away at the age of 33.

On May 15, 1826, Abel married Betsey Howe of Hopkinton. Four Children were to be born of them. Betsey was born July 12, 1827 and passed away May 4, 1834 at the age of seven. Marshall was their next child, he was born February 6, 1829 and passed away March 18 1848 at the age of 19 of consumption. Abel Morton was born on January 17 1836 and passed away 6 month later, on July 5, 1836. On February 3, 1838 Abel Thomas was born.

At 64 years of age, On August 18, 1855 Abel Rice passed away. He is buried in the Old Common Burial Ground along with his first wife and their son Aaron. Buried with their father are also Betsey, Abel Morton, and Marshall C. Rice.

His Second wife and their only surviving son, Abel Thomas, moved to Worcester in 1857. Both Betsey and Abel Thomas died there in 1861 and are buried in Hope Cemetery.
