~ PICTORIAL MARLBORO ~ The "Pictorial Marlboro" produced by the "JOHN A. RAWLINS POST 43" of the Grand Army of the Republic. This edition printed in 1879 includes many articles, pictures and ads of the times.
I have included on the following pages, just a few of the many items that can be found with-in this publication. For those of you who want to read the complete publication, it can be found in the Marlborough Public Library.
The uniqueness of this publication can be found in viewing the illustrations. "All of the illustrations in the Pictorial Marlboro were made by our process from Photographs or sketches; and the Plates were printed on an ordinary Cylinder Printer Press." This statement appears within an ad for "Photo Electrotype Co., 171 Devonshire St., Boston.
The ad further states, "one-half the cost of wood engraving"; "the plates are equal to the finest wood cuts and in point of depth, superior"
The copy I used here was loaned to me by Linda & Art Gorman, who have supplied other material for this website.
Both copies were of a copy which was "Reproduced February 1955, under the direction of Hector E. Moineau"
Thank you Linda and Art for the loan of this very interesting piece of Marlborough History.... and thanks go to Mr. Hector E. Moineau for having the forsight to have this important publication reproduced.
The following are just excerpts of some of the pages.
