George Houlditch 1837

The State of South Carolina

Know all men by these presents that I George Houlditch of Laurens County District in the State aforesaid in consideration of the sum of twelve hundred dollars paid to me by Willis N. Burnside and Wm E Burnside of Laurens District in the state aforesaid have granted bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said Wills N Burnside and William E Burnside all that tract of Land where I now reside known as Thos Nickols place Together with a certain parcel or part of a tract of land formerly owned by David Craddock adjoining the same the balance of said Craddock land having been sold and surveyed to James McCollums the two parcels containing one hundred and twenty five acres more or less and bounded by land of Nat Day, Feril Milam and MDA Deane and Little River. The parcel of the Craddock tract adjoining land of Sanford Powell and W.D.A. Dean to the said Dean being now the owner of the part of the Craddock tract sold to McCollums Together with all and singular the rights members, hereditaments, and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise in or appertaining to have and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Willis N and Wm E Burnsides their heirs and assigns forever and I do hereby bind my heirs, Executors and Administrators, to warrant and forever defend all and singular said premises unto the said Willis N and Wm E Burnside their heirs and assigns, against myself and my heirs, or any other person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witness my hand and seal this tenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven and in the sixty first year of the Independence of the United States of America.

I W.D. Watts Judge of the Court of Ordinary of the district aforesaid do hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that Jane Houlditch the wife of the within named George Houlditch did this day appear before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does freely voluntarily and without any compulsion, dredd (sic) or fear of any person or persons whomsoever, renounce, release and forever relinquish unto the within named Willis N and Wm E Burnside their heirs and assigns all her interest and estate and also all her right and claim of Dower, of in and to all and singular the premises within mentioned and released Given under my hand and seal this twenty second day of April Anno Domini one thousand Eight hundred thirty seven

Personally appeared before me one Hugh Saxon and gave oath that he saw George Houlditch sign seal and deliver the above conveyance for the uses and purposes therein mentioned; and that James M Pollard with himself in the presence of each other, witnessed the due execution therein. Sworn to before me this the twenty second day of April 1837.
