James A. Morgan 1882 Indenture

James A. Morgan and wife to M.M. Grantham and son

This indenture made this 15th day of May 1882 between James A. Morgan and Ann E. Morgan his wife of the one part and M.M. Grantham and son of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of sixty five dollars to the parties of the first part in hand paid by the party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said parties of the first part have this day bargained and sold and do by these presents bargain sell and convey unto the said party of the second part the following described Real Estate to wit: Lots numbered and known as lots seven and eight each being five rods and six inches wide by twenty nine rods in length and each of said lots containing one acre and situated at or near Langston, Jackson County, Alabama. To have and to hold the foregoing described Real Estate to the said parties of the first part for themselves their heirs executors administrators and assigns do covenant the title of said Real Estate to warrant and forever defend from and against the lawful title claim and demand of all and every person or persons whatsoever. In testimony whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals, the date above written.

I William H. Allen Notary Public and Ex Off J.P. in and for said County hereby certify that James A. Morgan whose name is signed to the foregoing conveyance and who is know to me acknowledged before me on this day that being informed of the contents of the conveyance he executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date. And I do hereby further certify that on the 15th day of May 1882 came before me the within named Ann E. Morgan known to me to be the wife of the named James A. Morgan who being examined separate and apart from her said husband touching her signature to the within conveyance acknowledging that she signed the same of her free will and accord and without fear constraints or threats on the part of the named husband. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this the 15th day of May 1882.
